Newcastle Reported Interested In West Ham Midfielder

3:43 pm, Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 292 Comments

talkSPORT is reporting that Newcastle could be interested in West Ham’s left-sided player Matt Taylor.

matt taylor

Matt Taylor – Newcastle supposed to be interested

Newcastle were interested in Matt Taylor a number of years ago when he played left back at Luton, but to think Newcastle would be interested in an average player who is now 31 years old and past his best, is hard to believe.

Matt Jarvis arrived from Wolves last summer for a hefty £10.4M, and Taylor has not had the number of games he would liked, although he still made 29 appearances for West Ham with one goal last season.

The former Bolton, Portsmouth and Luton player has plenty of experience, but we’d be very surprised – make that shocked – if this report has any truth to it at all.

In his career Matt Taylor has 543 appearances with 70 goals, and he has a terrific left foot.

Comments welcome.

31 year old West Ham reserve, we may not be as attractive as we have been in the past, but this is woeful, Ed, please delete this article as it serves no purpose.

    How underwhelming is this story?

  • 4 TurkishFan101 // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:49 PM

Repost for those in conversation to:

Rubbish? only rubbish I see is you neglecting for information which is the truth.

    @Transfer Sage

Graham Carr had more then to only identify players, he is our chief scout and he was the important role of the club in order to get them over the line. DL had to negotiate the fee that all not explain to him about the club history and how he would fit in to our project in-doubt about the “Five Year Plan”.

There is a reason Mike Ashley appointed JK as the DOF and that was so that he could speed up the process of negotiations and be the mainstream media man for Newcastle as DL was failing to speak to the fans about whats going on and had failed deals which were deemed to help the club. So JK is the main man responsible with Graham Carr, Pardew will continue to see players come in which he does not have no say in at all, though JK has said all three of them will have a say but to talk about whats reality with Mike it wont happen.

Yes the players signs for Newcastle United, but without a right spokesman and excellent communication skills would the player just come in to Newcastle United knowing nothing other than a clown which is back in NUFC? it was all over the news in France as well about JK returning and how he couldn’t lower our club reputation anymore but he did and continues to.

Joe Kinnear is responsible for mainly transfers as its the pecking order goes

    Joe Kinnear/Graham Carr

It will make a huge difference on who will come or not when JK is negotiating and that was said when Douglas transfer was cancelled.

RUBBISH!!!!! HE IS 31 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Next rumour please!!

  • 6 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:51 PM

G…Depends. If a West Ham fan is reading I bet they’re dead excited.

  • 7 Spoof // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:52 PM

    From previous thread

Reality grip, why would PEA even consider Dortmund and there superb stadium with their fans, with Champions League football and all the glory that goes with such a successful football club when he could join us who can boast at having a DOF who is head and shoulders above any other who is in his job.

  • 8 Bambams // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:52 PM

    No resale value
    Another midfielder
    No better

    Not happening

  • 9 G // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:53 PM

I think Scotiedog has this one correct. I think the chances of us being even remotely interested are about as likely as me becoming beautiful. Never in a million years.

  • 10 p // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:55 PM

When was the last time we signed a 31 year old?

Total bollox unless jfk has convinced mash to depart from his buy low, sell high strategy

  • 11 rainrix // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:55 PM

Yeah even JK’s smart enough to realise its pointless to swap perch with taylor.

  • 12 G // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:55 PM

Ibiza, I think the last time I saw a West Ham fan get excited was when they signed Tony Cottee from Everton.

  • 13 tequilamag // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:57 PM

Turkish, replied to your post in previous thread mate

  • 14 Thump // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:57 PM

This window is about experience. Pardew said it at the end of last season… and this is, sadly, along the right lines.

Perchinho is having a medical at Wigan, apparently.

  • 15 Bambams // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:58 PM

    Brighter post…..

Really fellas this could still turn out to be a very good window !

If we are prepared to let one of our adaptable players ie Perchino, then the simple thinking behind this MUST be we are going to strengthen more than one position ! If not we would of kept Perch…..

We must be going to sign a few……

Come on joke in here. …. It’s all good from now on, £700k in the bank to go with the war chest put to one side…..

Well I have convinced myself, off to the Pav for a couple to celebrate ;-)

  • 16 Spoof // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:58 PM

I might go into the garden and talk to the goldfish, it’s almost appealing as staying on here, only one problem, I don’t have any goldfish, problem solved, I will go and buy some, but I will need a pond won’t I, do you know what this reminds me of, lets sing along ” there’s a hole in my bucket d……”, perhaps not.

  • 17 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:58 PM

This rumour makes no sense at all unless Joe name disabilites is involved. He said to have been on phone yesterday all day. In goings and out goings.

  • 18 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:59 PM

G…What a magical day that must have been for them :)

  • 19 Spoof // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:01 PM

    p @10

that might or might not have been Oberfeni Martins, we were never sure of his age were we.

  • 20 Slank // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:01 PM

At 31 years of age and having never been a ‘purple’ I would imagine his pimp is doing his very best to get as much money out of him as he can before he ends up on the scrap heap. This is as implausible as Shola going to Barca.

  • 21 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:01 PM

Good player. Would’ve been a good signing a few years ago. Used to have a cracking shot. N’Zogbia would be a good signing but there’s no way Kinnear would recruit him. Zarate is a great option. He’s only 26 and can play in 3 different positions.

  • 22 toon kk // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:03 PM

All this resale value is mostly rubbish, we sold AC then pound signs rolled in front of MA eyes. With us showing no ambition how many players will go up in value?

  • 23 YoDoNewcastle // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:03 PM

Lol! Guess JoKe wants more Taylors so he knows all the names of the players… Couse Ambeoduguohogo is to hard to say so we let him og some other place!

  • 24 TurkishFan101 // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:04 PM

“Turkish, nobody really knows whether we were still intersted in signing Douglas. There was nothing from the club only press speculation that Kinnear vetoed the deal and as the press were in full slag off JK mode I would no give it too much credence. At this point everything we read is speculation no more no less.”

You are absolutely correct mate regarding press speculation and that but it makes sense that we tried to pursue him as he is a free agent and we were heavily linked with him last season even put in a bid for him which got rejected. 2 million euros or something I cannot really remember.

I made a comment about the media-stream rumours and how they put up allot of nonsense everyday that being today being linked with 31 year old Matt Taylor. Makes sense in Pardews world as Pardew would love to get old players past their prime but we know very right well what our policy is and we would not go for him even if he was free agent.

  • 25 Slank // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:04 PM

    Thump @ 14

‘ This window is about experience..’

Did Pardew mean transfers out and not transfer in!!!???

  • 26 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:06 PM

Didn’t Pardew come out after his “We need PL experience” comment and say that he didn’t mean players outside of the clubs current policy, but simply players who had been in the PL for a while, like Walcot?

  • 27 Spoof // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:08 PM

    Slank @20

breaking news, Barcelona are preparing and audacious bid to try and tempt Newcastle’s highly rated striker Shola Amamadoubie to join them in there quest for footballing supremecy, such a loss would have a devastating effect on the moral of the loyal Newcastle fans.

  • 28 Lynxie // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:08 PM

And in other news:Nothing happened and no one cares. lets just invent a non-story to fill the blog page up.
Ed: Tomorrow why not just cut and paste this:
The agent of a footballer (insert wildly speculative players name based upon Football manager or similar PC or X box game), who plays for (insert absurdly famous and mega rich club here), has reported (put this in inverted comma’s to show that it isn’t true really), that Newcastle united have been in touch / signed / are in talks with (delete as desired), for a fee of (insert stupid money ) and wages of (ditto), on a 5 / 10 / 15 year deal.

that should save us all a load of time reading utter crap like this. Matt Taylor FFS………..

    School report…….
Ed. Must try harder. See me.

  • 29 Bearsize // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:08 PM

HAD a good left foot. Another dinosaur for the collection

  • 30 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:08 PM

Why are people even saying we will end up with Cole or Bent? We can’t afford them. Darius Vassell however…

  • 31 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:10 PM

Got a feeling we’ll sign Bafetimbi Gomis and Rod Fanni.

  • 32 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:11 PM

Huddlestone fit that Pardew comment I would say.

  • 33 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:12 PM

    or maybe he’s bit old.

  • 34 rainrix // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:12 PM

Ibiza… But then you have to ask has JK changed the policy? Its not surprising really that in the vast amount of interviews he’s given he hasn’t actually talked about important things like is the policy changing or what types of players we’re going for. Honestly JK has done a stellar job so far….. of publicising himself :)

  • 35 Black and White with an army lol // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:12 PM

and there’s ppl on here given me grief because i said MA & CO are going for rejects this season, well look no further lads Bent, Tomkins, Cole and now M.Taylor, iv’e said all along we will go for Bent & Tomkins now since Taylor is on THERE wish list i’m now just waiting for Cole to hit the headlines

  • 36 Spoof // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:13 PM

    Toon kk
that is a very valid point, 12 months ago Tiote, Ben Arfa and Cabaye were being linked to other clubs as they are now, but the values attached to a possible purchase has reduced significantly.

  • 38 Puppet Pardew's Brainlessness // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:13 PM

Lynxie that is a bit brutal. Ed is simply relaying to us what is reported in the news and giving his opinion on it. Then we discuss. This is a non story but has been rumoured so he’s passing info on not making stuff up

  • 39 tequilamag // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:13 PM

Turkish, may also be the case that once Colo made the decision he wanted to stay that the decision was made that Douglas was no longer needed even if we were actually interested in him to start with. The silence from Pardew since JK was appointed is very unusual so it is almost impossible to say what he actually wants in terms of new players. We can all speculate all day and suckers that we are for Newcastle probably will. Everyone has their own particular bias as to what is wrong and right with Newcastle and we all have a tendency to latch on to speculation that suits our own narrative. For me I think it is best to have an open mind, hope for the best but don`t be too surprised if things don`t pan out how we want or expect.

  • 40 toon kk // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:14 PM

The only time we’ll get excited about signings is when MA has dragged us into the championship, then our targets will be in our price range.

  • 41 Slank // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:15 PM

    Ketsbaia9 @ 30

‘..Got a feeling we’ll sign Rod Fanni..’

  • 42 tequilamag // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:16 PM

Black and White but is he really on anyones wishlist or is this yet another story without legs like 99% of the stories written this Summer.

  • 43 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:17 PM

Wierd news about Belhanda today apperently he might not go there despite being picture in their shirt together with Mbokani and Lens. That would have us revise the old saying I don’t believe anything until he’s holding the shirt.

  • 44 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:17 PM

Sazzer..I imagine that’s exactly the type he meant…or at least is pretending he meant :) What is he, 25-27?

Rainrix….Maybe, just maybe, Kinnear is here as the ultimate smokescreen? It’s odd that we haven’t seen or heard from Pardew or Carr, maybe they’re letting Joe flap his lips and take the spotlight, so to speak, whilst they get on with business? Probably not, but a man can hope. I’m still hoping I wake up at some point and realise it’s all been one weird dream. Mind you, that would probably be more worrying…dreaming about Kinnear. Perverse doesn’t even begin to explain that one.

  • 45 Slank // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:17 PM

if it was top players like PEA etc,etc most of us would think we wish and the papers spreading BS but reports with Bent, Tomkins, Taylor who we all know AP wants them here i would give it 80% chance that they will come

  • 53 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:20 PM

Why not take a punt for Jordan Rhodes – league but 110 goals in 200 league appearances. Remember Andy Cole and urgh Kevin Phillips look where they came from and what they did

  • 54 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Micah Richards could be another one.

  • 55 TurkishFan101 // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:22 PM

Yeah mate fair point about Colo as we wouldn’t want to pursue another CB aged over 23. I think we are targeting a younger CB aged 18-23 who is happy to rotate basically a squad rotation player. But the sale of Perch when players like Gosling, Obertan, Jonas who need to be shipped out first is absolutely stupid and going under £1m is an absolute bargain. Great player and gave 100% every game!

  • 56 Slank // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:23 PM

Good call. But curious as to why he hasn’t he been snapped up by now. Thoughts?

  • 58 rainrix // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:24 PM

Ibiza… Well pards isnt due back to friday i think. So we’re already behind. Hopefully like you say carr is in top gear already so hopefully it shouldn’t take too long to get our transfers on. Or maybe it’ll be delayed again by Joe going on holiday again this weekend. Argh no positivity anywhere :?

BTW Jk isnt real. He’s like the boogeyman of football, used to scare managers and fans alike. Only somehow ashley has managed to summon him into existence. Honestly you can be forgiven for thinking this is all a dream. To be fair though its generally a surreal experience being a newcastle fan :)

  • 59 TurkishFan101 // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:25 PM

Isn’t it a disgrace that a newly promoted club like Cardiff is out pouncing the desire and ambition which our club lack and their revenue is no where near to ours. Joke, absolute joke.

  • 66 Spoof // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:29 PM

Colo was told he would have to fund his own sale if he wanted to leave, the club played hardball and Colo stayed, but don’t fool yourself, Colo does not want to be here he wants to be at San Lorenzo, so would Douglas who wanted to be here not be a better option.

  • 67 tequilamag // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:29 PM

Turkish, I would happily have Perch another contract I think he earned it last season . I would hope that is a sign that we are looking to upgrade though and that is never a bad thing.

  • 68 Rotonda heights // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:29 PM

Who is going to sign with JFK and Pardew at the helm?
With this particular organ grinder and monkey we are a very unattractive proposition except for the Bent’s, Tomkins, Pilkington’s, Spearings and now Taylor’s of this world and any other Pardew faves. Desperate times.

Rotonda@66…nail on head m8…that is one our main recruitment issues…why o why would a good player looking to come to the Premiership risk coming to a club in turmoil like ours.

We won’t get top players…we’ll get promising young players wanting to take a risk unlike established players who are looking to win something and play for a team managed by a progressive manager…we are anything but attractive at the minute

Shola is so poo! If he left it would be the greatsest day of my life. I would host a street party.
I know some people still think he will come good, but trust me… He wont. U cant polish a turd as they say. Must be a horrible feeling for the players when they see strolla on the sideline. Possibly why the players underperformed?
I feel i have to ridicule shola just to remind everyone that he is poo, Coz with all the dramas that happen at NUFC shola seems to slip under the radar and gets an extension. But this summer i will get the last laugh haha
Shola definitely reads this blog, why do you think he has no confidence.

Spoof sorry not a full reply to our post. Colos first choice would probably to be to go home but I don`t think it affected his performance on the pitch and it seems he is reconciled to staying. Would Douglas be a better option? I have no idea, I don`t spend much time following Euro football. Other people have commented that Douglas is a bit too fierce in the tackle and we already have Tiote who is a bit of a timebomb for red and yellow cards though he does have age on his side.

As you were saying yourself, I am totally confused and have climbed up on your fence until the smoke clears. But when it does, I’ll probably see you and I are facing in opposite directions.
Kinnear seems to have been tasked with sorting the wheat from the chaff, which might mean nothing more than confirming a few of Ashley’s suspicions. And maybe a few Carr’s “one’s for the future” might get pre-season to prove their worth. I’m still scared it will come down to Joe’s view of who is and isn’t a decent player.
Meanwhile, I think Kinnear will confiscate a few of Pardew’s favourite toys.

  • 98 Spoof // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:48 PM

signing players to take you to the next level is one thing, but is that really happening, don’t get me wrong I despise Ashley and I want him out, but look at Sunderland, Mignolet has gone and Sessegnon will follow suit, they have 3 perhaps 4 who have came in but they are all reserve team players or average players in a lower standard league, have these signings strengthened them, I don’t think they have, a new player coming in excites fans but when they see they have signed shite the excitement soon where’s off

Apparently JFK first signing will be revealed on Friday lol

    Matt Taylor
    Darren Bent
    Carlton Cole

I doubt it, we may have a joke of a DoF but MA won’t buy a player with no re sale value.

Mind why would he pay £15m for a player when all the fans that want him are urging him out the door?

Like I said this MA out commitee of sorts is the reason we won’t sign any big players.

Makes no sense paying alot of money for a player if fans hate you and therefore you would leave tomorrow. It would only increase the over the value asking price right now.

Personally I want Bony, but he won’t come!

Expect 2-3 signings, 1 being very young (Haidara/Bigi mold) and the other 2 being 6-7 million max Anita mold. Its been the way for past few years why would that change?

As for Perch out, its a decent time he won’t
Increase in value, has a year left and is getting on. He hardly sets us up for glory. If he needs to be sacrificed for a 6-7m addition so be it!

Shame though as he was versatile and would have preferred Shola, Gosling, RTaylor, Williamson and Obertan to leave before! Not that they are easy to move on! Williamson is the only one to actually play regularly. Shola may be looks at by Championship teams …. Maybe!

PEA won’t come, never has been! People just read the tripe and bull on here and believe it! As gullible as they are!

WE ARE SIGNING CAVANI! Bet it trends around Twitter within an hour, or is that too unrealistic? ….. We arguably have a better chance of him than PEA lol

  • 156 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jul 2, 2013 at 5:40 PM

I’m really annoyed now about Newcastle (Kinnear) trying to get rid of James Perch. Out of all the players I think he’s one of the only ones who has genuinely improved in the last 2 years.

As a DM he is so much better than as a full back. Consistent passer and has a a good tackle- he does his job very well!

Why are we not getting rid of the genuine rubbish?! Gosling, Obertan, Jonas, Wiliamson etc. rather than someone who always does a decent job when he fills in at DM!

Plus, Kinnear tried to use him as reasoning that he knew all the players- he called him “Perchy” in an interview! (I presume he knew him at Forest cause he certainly didn’t at Newcastle!)

  • 162 IITianToon // Jul 2, 2013 at 5:57 PM

@Jamie Unfortunately theres a vital difference.
The difference is we dont play a fluid attacking 4-3-3 like the end of 2011/12 season, rather a 4-5-1 now. So you are more likely to end up with HBA and Marv in their own half with back to goal!

  • 163 TurkishFan101 // Jul 2, 2013 at 5:58 PM

Well we all knew we’d never get him deep down, my worry now is who the hell do we go for is good enough up top? Bony and Gomis seemingly off to Swansea.

In my opinion we have royally cocked up by bringing in Kinnear, royally cocked up by not making our transfer moves more quickly, royally cocked up by not forcing a technical coach into Pardew’s backroom team, royally cocked up by not having any ambition whatsoever and royally cocked up allowing all of this to escalate the point where fans have either given up or are pissed off.

Way to ruin a great club Ashley, bravo!

I know mate just saying, the rumour everywhere was that we had bid 15 million euros couple days ago on Chronicle, Journal, Eurosport etc but the fact was we never even bid in the first place. Now this rumour about him signing for BVB would make sense but if the fee which has been agreed is 15 million euros then this goes to show it was all speculate as I said it was about us bidding for PEA. If Anzhi was after him then they would of put an official bid as 15 million euros is nothing much to them but it seems Anzhi are not after him as a main priority.

Remember the Cisse story with Anzhi? yeah basically its the same, just cause they show interest doesn’t mean they bid for him.

PEA will go after ambition and most preferably the playing time he gets. Just remember that he said he prefers to go to BPL before any other league I take his word for that but this means that we did not bid for him unfortunately.

The big name signings will all be at the behest of Mike Ashley and probably recommended by Pardew and JFK so god help us there then.

I can’t imagine any of the players Carr has on his hit list will cost over 7 million so rumours of players connected with newcastle over that price should pretty much be ignored.

The power struggle between Carr and Pardew was won hands down by Carr. Pardew wasn’t playing in such a way Carr’s recruited players were able to play to their full potential and some like Anita weren’t even getting a game which in the scheme of things was of course scandalous.

Pardew is being marginalised for a very good reason and I am still very confident we will be buying in some good quality european players as soon as we know what’s happening with Cabs, Tiote and Cisse although Cabs and Tiote can be replaced in an instant by Sissoko and Anita so there’s no real panic…IMO it’s two good centre forwards and a winger we need

Why is everyone so hung up on PEA?

We will not sign him! STOP its not the end of the world!

Also those saying we have a weak squad that finished 16th this season! We had ALOT of
Injuries! Key players Cabaye, Krul, Colo, Ben Arfa all out for half the season! Even Sissoko played a handful of games before injury!

We have a decent squad am confident a top 10 finish is on the cards. And I am usually cautious about such predictions.

I said relegation the year we got relegated.

I was abit unsure whether we would come straight back up, given who we may sell or not but at the close of window I told my brother confidently we would come up by whatever means that season.

I said we will stay up on our return!

I said top 10 in year we finished 5th got laughed at!

I said 10th-14th last year, was hardly far off but got so much negativity from this blog for saying I was a joke, how can we go from 5th to 12thish etc!

Look I consider myself a say it as u see it kind of guy! I am not biased but we have a very good squad for 38 PL games, we have no EL now.

We have an average manager who will be watching his back this season.

I believe we will finish in top 10! I am rarely wrong, or far from my prediction.

I think Sunderland have alot more to be worried about right now. I think Norwich and Southampton are too be watched for relegation battle and I wouldn’t be suprised if one of the new boys are nailed on!

We are fine! But PEA is a dream, nothing more! Let it go and learn your lesson!

We played awful most games even with our best players, and got lucky but not as lucky as the year before.

Norwich, Southampton and Sunderland after Di Canio looked to be progressing in terms of how they played. Southampton bought Lyon starting CB to solve there weakest link the defence. Di Canio are signing like Swansea did last season and manage to beat us with players he already got last season. Norwich are bringing in solid players and they have Hughton as there manager.

The teams coming up doesn’t look that strong to me so I expect at least 2 of them to go down next season.

We can get our players to play to their potential then we are top 10 and above. But so far we are unbalance injury-prone team that rely on individual brillance.

Hopefully, a pre-season is what we need.

Neither has the range and vision in their passing of the highly talented Cabaye. He would be sorely missed particularly if we acquire the ST and wide/ wingman to get beyond defences. Cabaye is now fully recovered from stomach and groin injuries and will be capable of dictating the play. Don’t take my word for it but Vicente del Bosque.

Joe Kinnears recent interview about him being “The Best Director Of Football” Comments from fans all over the UK.

    “curly-and-moe says July 2, 2013 4:20pm

Oh dear, the FA Cup in 1967; the UEFA Cup in 1972 and the Football League Cup on two occasions (in 1971 and 1973) doesn’t add up to having “won every award there is in football as a player”. As for his 35 years in management, that actually adds up to approximately 12 years including his first two appointments in 3rd world countries. Newcastle have been turned into a laughing stock by this guy and the owner. Is he trying to drive down the price of the club for some strange obscure reason?”

    “johnathan says July 2, 2013 4:17pm

Please Ashley; I know you have done this to annoy the fans; but please see sense and sack him. He is a worthless idiot that knows nothing about football. If you are insistent on us having a Football Director then sign Frank Arnesen somebody who knows what he is doing. Kinnear is a clown”

    “irishchelseafan says July 2, 2013 4:14pm

I feel sorry for newcastle fans with this appointment, but i remember when Pardew was appointed manager and everyone laughed and said they would be relegated that season. Then they finished 5th ahead of us, liverpool, everton, playing some of the best football we had seen from them in years…. No one likes Kinnear but hopefully newcastle won’t suffer next season and the french lads will finally gel”

    “david says July 2, 2013 3:14pm

35 years as a manager? you’ve only quoted 16 years so far, and you’re at least 5 years over the top with those estimations… playing Football Manager doesn’t count you crazy old fool leave my club now before you ruin us even further! and you clearly didn’t watch any of us last season as James Perch was one of our most solid, hard working players, and one of the only players who can genuinely hold his head high…. you think he’s worth only £700k ? JFK, you are a total joke”

    “crazy_toony says July 2, 2013 3:08pm

“Only manager to be a director of football”?! What about David Pleat at Spurs? Dennis Wise before him at Newcastle? Leonardo at PSG? Sir Bobby Robson at Barcelona? Avram Grant at Pompey and Chelsea? Even Steve Coppell at Crawley?! He really is so up himself! With the exception of Dennis Wise all of those people would make better directors of football than him! Newcastle really are a laughing stock with this foul mouthed clown at this club. It puzzles me why such a mediocre manager such as him would get such a strong position of power. To think we could have got Steve McClaren, even he would have been better, but QPR have snapped him up as a coach, lucky devils!”

How can we go from pea to matt taylor i mean seriously

  • 248 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 2, 2013 at 7:42 PM

I think one of our major problems last season was Pardews blatant favouritism of players and this led to many underperforming IMO.

Gutierrez – Can’t cross, rarely scores and gets barely any assists. Players like Marv or Fergie come in and have decent games (i.e. creating goals) but are never given another chance when Jonas is fit.

Tiote – Gone from Rottweiler to Chi Wawa in the space of a year. Can’t even do 10 yard passes and turns on the edge of our box constantly. Anita plays well in every game apart from Chelsea where he gave away a penalty yet is benched over the likes of Gosling and Perch. Despite being one of Ajax’s first names on their team sheet and a product of their academy.

Santon – Debatable as Haidara was bought in January but even in his short time here has shown to be a better defender than Davide. Yet would still be benched if Santon was fit. Santon does have a hell of a lot of potential but he needs to work on his defensive awareness if he wants to become the “next Maldini”

I feel like a lot of our players thought “Yeah I’m Pardews favourite and I am un-droppable” . This does two things:

    1. Allows the players to perform sub par and not worry about being replaced.

    2. Gives no incentive to the fringe players to graft in training as they know even if they do well when given their chance they will be dropped like hot sh*t as soon as one of Pardews adopted son’s returns from injury or suspension.

You could argue our squad lacks depth and to an extent that is true, but the players above I feel are getting in the starting 11 on favouritism rather than current ability.

    Thoughts ?

With the right signings this could just be the season that Alan Pardew transforms Newcastle away from a direct style into a far more fluid, passing possession type of team. Yes, were planning on tactical changes, keeping possession and playing a pass and more fluid style of play maximising the talented squad now being assembled.
If you’re a little sceptical of this possibility then just blank out last season altogether when everything that could go wrong did. So focus the season before and our fifth place finish when everything that could go right did. Do you remember, our three best results that season.
The annihilation of Villa, the 5-1 victory against the Mackems and the spectacular four second half goals against Arsenal . This style of football particularly the victories against Villa and the mackems were not the romantic beautiful game that fans demand ( on here) but arguably Hughton’s tactics and gameplan.
Under Pardew, the defence is pretty much sorted and with Cabaye going nowhere and a midfield of him Tiote and Sissoko together with astute offensive signings , a ST and wideman / winger we can look for Pardew’s side/ squad revolution at St James’s Park this coming season, albeit a tactical one. Long balls, bypassing the midfield and a lack of quality worked set-pieces will be a thing of the past after the most productive pre season in a long time. These will have been replaced by a one-touch, pass and move style of direct running and a more fluid style of football. Posters and fans alike will be delighted, new born babies of both sexes will be called alan(Alain). Rotonda will make a public apology to Sir Alan Pardew and not darken this blog again. We will get some great results as well as playing some scintillating football not seen since KK’s entertainers and Rotonda and any talk of hoofball will become ancient history. There will be a massive clamour for season tickets.
Munster Mag- this is not your license to remind me in October that I was a dullard and how you were not taken in.
Pre season is the time for flights of fantasy. Keep the faith.

I’ve had enough of the new season and it hasn’t started yet! I’m sick of that bell end spouting off. All talk and no action. He obviously believes if he keeps telling everyone how great he is that we might start believing him. He is a total prick.

  • 260 Rotonda heights // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:13 PM

Even with the tragedy that is JFK and Pardew this is still quite a team and in the right hands and with a couple of Carr, not Pardew picks we are easily top 6/7

    M’Biwa / Good
    Haidara / Santon

    Anita / Tiote / Bigi

    Marv / Goofy.

However, who’s going to come to a team whose ambition is making top 10, not going for Europe and putting mickey mouse teams out in the cups?

the problem is not the first starting eleven, its the strength in depth which is none existent.
as discussed before the development squad has not produced, our subs bench is made up of championship at best and take cisse out of the equation and tell me where the goals are going to come from?????

Ian Toon…You had my full attention until you said …

“Under Pardew, the defence is pretty much sorted”

Howay man Ian…we let in 68 goals last year…how’s that equate to a sorted defence for christs sake??

Hate to see a dodgy defence if that’s a sorted one!

Without the pace of a possible PEA coming in, I’m really dreading next season now. We need pace and product around Cisse because the scraps he gets during a game aren’t good enough.

Lens has already gone, so there’s another less to choose from. Belhanda all but signed elsewhere it seems.

It doesn’t get much brighter being a Toon fan these days. Awful.

  • 268 Rotonda heights // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:27 PM

Pardew was given the perfect blueprint of a fluid 433 when Raylor got injured and he had to accommodate Ba, Cisse and Benny in a front 3 to great effect.

If Ba no longer wanted to play on the wing he could have rotated him and Cisse in the middle and played Benny and Marv either side of them.

Pardew wasted over half a season trying to play Ba and Cisse in a 442 before erroneously shunting Cisse out to the wing or playing him as a target man.

We were told the hoof ball as down to Willo and Simmo but even when that excuse became obsolete we still ended up the most long ball team in the league and I don’t mean Glen Hoddle land it on a sixpence long balls
as our 16th place finish indicated

No manager has to have his team playing ultra cautious
route 1, hit and hope for a bit of magic football. It’s in Pardew’s DNA. He is not comfortable with pass and move football and technical payers. Pardew is happiest with artisans , not artists.

  • 272 jazzyp // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:33 PM

right before you shoot me down and put my gonads through a waste disposal unit if our only opportunity up front was to have ba and remy for next season would you take it bearing in mind what options we have now

  • 273 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:35 PM

Consistency is key, good partnerships in defence. Knowing each others game.

Last season we had 7-8 different partnerships at centre back. And Ferguson, Anita, Debuchy in January, Simpson, Santon, Tavernier, Perch all played part roles in defence throughout.

Colo missed half of last seasons games, Santon, Taylor had hefty lay off’s as did Williamson I think I recall.

The same can be said about the midfield. But I’ll not go there.

Consistency is not a word often used on here but it is of major importance to the team succeeding on the pitch.

This is the major difference from the season we finished 5th.

    For me anyway ;)

  • 274 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:35 PM

The best form of defence is attack, clearly a statement Pardew has never heard of. His master plan is to sit back (Even at home to Reading FFS), hope to nick a goal and then go ultra defensive and end up conceding. The guy is clueless and doesn’t deserve to manage in the PL.

This blog tonight is fantastic reading.Poor Torque and the other lad who give the odd bit inside knowledge are being treat like the Taliban.
I think if Ashley and big Joe were to venture into the city tonight they would be Tarred and feathered.
Why ,all because of some bloke from Gabon, prefers to ply his trade in Germany.
Believe it or not ,the 2 chaps who give us the inside knowledge (whom I fully believe and enjoy reading their blogs ) Ashley and Big Joe are on ourside .
So if PEA wants to play in Germany and not us ,His Loss.
We have a smashing team,,my main concern this season is not to loose any players (Pearch I can live with )
All we need is a couple of bodies over the line, and I do believe Mr Carr and Big Joe will deliver the goods .
You may differ with what I say and maybes think I should be tarred and featherd .
One person who I agree with is Paw 1250 blog 187.

  • 277 Ian Toon // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:39 PM

Sparky- The defence at the end of the season was far stronger once
Coloccini returned. Your basing your point on games where we were assimilating so many new signings in January. If you discount the games against Arsenal, Man u, Liverpool and the mackems where i claim mitigation( sic). A pre season will see a far more water tight defence with the same personnel, than seen in the second half of the season. Remember we had Yanga playing at left back in place of Santon. We only need a CB if Willo is sold and have adequate cover at RB. Yanga and Colo in the middle and Tiote covering in front in a disciplined way.

  • 279 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:44 PM

I for one don’t blame PEA for going to Dortmund. They are the poster boy club for what a football team should be IMO.

  • 280 Rotonda heights // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:49 PM

First of all you moaned about a lack of players, so we addressed it and Sissoko and co looked world class when they arrived, ie v Chelsea at home.

A few weeks later after being ”pardewed” they looked thoroughly depressed, despondent, disinterested and leg weary.

With his patchy and inconsistent career record why do you keep banging the drum for this loser?

  • 281 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:50 PM

Yeah I would have been more angry if it was to another PL club like Remy. You can’t blame the kid for going to the second best team in the world last season.

  • 282 sparky55 // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:52 PM

Ian…I’m not totally disagreeing with you just for the sake of an argument but, but I think the Debuchy, Colo, MBiwa / taylor, and Santon / Hiadara back four will take some time to pull together for sure…who knows what combo Pardew will choose but Santon still has a lot to learn, Mbiwa was better at LB than he was at CB, taylor gives 110% but is still a headless chicken, and Debuchy is nowhere near the level he was at in France…so by no means whatsoever a settled back four going into man City or the first 10 games for that matter.

  • 283 croftus5678 // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:54 PM

i’m feeling kinda down now :-(

dont get me wrong i never thought we had a chance with pea but after all the upset we have had so far the fkers went and made me think “well what if” and now its back to reality.

wheres this 17yo supposedly signing on 1st ? maybe kinear did turn him away !

if swansea get bony now >.< even they deserve to finish above us next season !

our best hope imo is ideye now but tbh i've lost the excitement of watching the transfer window now and i'm not looking forward to next season just yet so i really do hope they sign some players to make me think we can actually get in the top 10 next year nvm top 6.

  • 284 jazzyp // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:54 PM

I know we are all gutted abt pea, even those that say we were never in for him and he was never gonna come.
but all we can hope for by the start of the upcoming season is 2 or 3 top signings
theres still plenty of time yet and somebody rightly said that at least this loss has happened at the beginning of the transfer window
ideya brown welcomed a move to nufc-same age and style of play but would have thought a lot cheaper

  • 285 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 8:55 PM

I thought Dortmund where going for Volland, Kruse or Schurrle taken German usually buy Germans.

  • 289 Ian Toon // Jul 2, 2013 at 9:23 PM

sparky- Glad to hear you come in peace. I am a firm believer in the art of the possible and a pre season can make a whole lot better. Debuchy is likely to be more used to the physicality of the PL going forward. Santon needs to time his runs better and is a young talent that can only get better. The key is Tiote being disciplined in not trying to be overly ambitious. For me the biggest concern is in fact Saylor who at times is too gung ho. Yanga will be a PL star he has everything accept experience of PL – his anticipation reading of a game and recovery is first class. I only see the need for 2-3 offensive players to get behind opposing defences and help out Cisse. The backbone of the side will be first class. It will be good to have Tim back – hopefully having worked on his kicking. The rest I have previously covered. I am not influenced by negativity particularly as none of us really news what Ashley is likely to do because he’s so unpredictable. I can’t believe he would bring Kinnear in unless it was to improve the transfer situation.
I don’t buy the Kinnear to replace Pardew scenario. Time will tell.
Personally I look forward to competing at the right end of the league.
Time will tell- take it easy.

omg guess who has been spotted with joe kinear and pardew ,only sessegon if thats how ya spell it ya know the sunderland striker

  • 291 jimmysmith // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:50 PM

I’ve wondered openly about why Ashley would at face value make such flagrantly antagonistic and seemingly unnecessary decisions. Chiefly among them the refusal to put just that little bit more money into getting the right bodies over the line, also the Wonga deal, stadium renaming, and the Kinnear appointment. It does appear Ashley has his eyes firmly on the balance sheet and that he doesnt have the time to personally oversee the goings on at Newcastle, ok if that’s the way it is, that’s the way it is, but fans have expectations that do need to be addressed or you will create a tension and damage that’s hard to quantify. He’s on the cusp of that happening now and it’ll be interesting to see how he responds, my guess would be going after one key major signing to compliment Cisse up top but only at the clubs valuation, otherwise we could well be going with what we’ve got or shored up with a Bent type signing. Any other bodies in will likely depend on whether they are well within the existing transfer policy, despite all Joes bluster to the contrary.

Has Ian Toon become the mouthpiece for the DELUDED? I see similarities between him and Jokin.
It beats the depression I’m feeling I suppose.
