Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Slipping Away From Newcastle

2:46 pm, Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 93 Comments

Disturbing news today that Borussia Dortmund have apparently reached an agreement on the transfer fee of Saint Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Saint Etienne,  and it’s now supposed to be £13M.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Dortmund have agreed fee

That’s a lot less than Newcastle were supposed to have bid last week for the Gabon International, but it’s probably a more accurate figure, but surely we can afford £13M for such a good striker?

The report is in La Gazzetta dello Sport, and we did report late last night that there was a Dortmund official meeting with St. Etienne on the proposed transfer.

But we suppose, before a Dortmund official would travel to France,  they would have already agreed a fee for the striker.

This leaves it now a little doubtful for Newcastle, unless we can move in and match the German’s club’s bid, and yesterday Joe Kinnear was supposed to be trying to convince Mike Ashley to go in with an increased offer for the 24 year-old.

It will not be good if Newcastle  lose out to Borussia Dortmund, because it will look like once again we are unwilling t pay out the fee requested by the selling club, and matched by our competitors.

We hope Newcastle can move in quickly and at least be able to talk to the player about coming to Tyneside, but first of all we will have to pay the fee agreed by Dortmund.

It’s not looking too good.

The “I’ve won every award there is in football as a player.” cracked me up. He’s won the Ballon d’or!

  • 2 Ginger // Jul 2, 2013 at 2:48 PM

13 million is a bargain for him.

Ginger….. Ah of course joe has the wily fox. Who does everyone think taught messi and ronaldo? Themselves? Bah! :)

  • 5 WWYCD // Jul 2, 2013 at 2:51 PM

If its true then we have very little hope of convincing him we are a better team for him than Dortmund is

  • 6 rainrix // Jul 2, 2013 at 2:53 PM

Yes Colins finally approved me as a follower! And as a welcoming gift apparently the deal for Aubameyang involves Obertan joining Saint Etienne :)

  • 7 Ben3arfa // Jul 2, 2013 at 2:54 PM

Dortmund officials were meeting to sign him last night whilst at the same time Joe Kinnear was busy making a mockery out of our football club yet again

Gosh supporting this club can be so frsutrating sometimes

Jesper…I did, but not to comment on the structure of the bikini girls :)

    On thread…Key word here people….APPARENTLY.

Even so…he’s rubbish anyway. Would much prefer Bent ;)

  • 9 estechco // Jul 2, 2013 at 2:55 PM

If he goes to Dortmund at least we will have the full window to find an alternative.

In the last few of years this would have been the way Aug 31st panned out?

  • 13 Bambams // Jul 2, 2013 at 2:58 PM

Were we ever really in for him? I read it on this blog and I am not even sure how or who started the rumour.

£13 million if correct is surely within our club’s/billionaire structure.

Maybe it will be Bent but once again they want him for pennies not pounds.

    Mess !

  • 14 TurkishFan101 // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:01 PM

@TorqToon Because its not hard to believe that our star players will be sold after the training and manager ability is flawed to their disadvantage. Why would they want to stay with us when they can win silverware elsewhere and enjoy a football which can be witnessed as technical and not dinosaur age hoofing? We are most likely to believe that our players will get sold because for Mike Ashley it is business and when he gets the opportunity to sell players for a bit of profit he will and try to bring in bargains to stabilize the team. Just like he does with SD, look for cost effective factories, use the cheapest material, pay £0.10p an hour to Asian countries and get away with selling replica and cheap goods at SD.

What is their to believe when a striker like PEA is worth more then £15m and that Mike Ashley will bid for that striker when he can call it for odds and buy Bent and Carlton Cole for combined fee of £5m when Carlton Cole is free? When we miss out on players like Belhanda who can also play out wide and attacking Midfield role we have practically missed out on a bargain since Marveaux is deemed to get sold as well so how can we.

Nothing is changing, Mike would rather stay middle to bottom table and still secure money from BPL money and his brand getting advertised to diversify the market then spend loads on one striker when he could get 4 players on bargain with the same money.

This tactic has been used allot where it seems that we have put in a “bid” but its from our local North East papers or rumours around in France which comes from that certain “Journalist” whom gets paid by Mike Ashley to put in the papers to say “Oh look our Owner wants to straighten things up since he appointed JK, appointing he couldn’t of been that bad, he will have abit more knowledge with footballing terms so he can get our targets over the line, people need to stop hating and blaming Mike for everything, oh wow JK is in and already rumours are flying in, we have put in a bid for PEA” This is what I hear from most ambitious “fans” and they seem to stick to it and be fine with it as long as they keep going to matches and spending money on merchandise. Do you really think JK can get PEA to our club? you must be on cocaine cause only player he is capable of getting over the line is the likes of Carlton Cole but that would be a big effort for the “best DOF” in the league cause he is a free agent and he would even mess that deal up.

Torq, I think if it would be good if you kept quiet about rumours and speculation. Cause we get our hopes so high and it gets crushed down like Monster Truck on a mayhem derby. We are called deluded everywhere I go, in the South East, Twitter, I mean everywhere but that is what comes out their mouth and it plays a vital role when our fans speculate of buying Rooney and even PEA whom costs over £15m and they genuinely think we have a chance of getting them. Sorry but not a chance in a different galactic universe with Mike Ashley and Joe Kinnear in charge.

    re post
afternoon gentlemen, read the blog for some time now but never posted before, feel the need to now though, i would say 98% of people on here are genuine nufc supporters, the other 2% maybe not, as you may gather, i don’t type too good so i’ll probably not post too often, i just want to say, torq, proud and anyone else who gives to us information that they’ve heard, well done, keep it coming, a little snipet of sunshine far outweighs the doom and gloom of negativity, let’s be patient and see what develops, i’m not one for slating people, but, REMY D comes across as a complete dick and his views are only shared by the very few, sorry for the long post but i feel all the better for it, vive le toon

  • 16 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:03 PM

We have signed exciting players when we have done so lately. I’m more worried we sign nobody than whoever the latest bad bench warmer the press is linking us with.

  • 17 LooneyToon41 // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:04 PM

RMC France reporting that Dortmund have not yet matched the €15m fee demanded by Saint Etienne, but that PEA himself has agreed terms.

Well, we worked so hard on this one but Torq just couldnt get it over the line… :D

  • 21 Transfer Sage // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:08 PM

People blame pardee a lot for last season, I know I did.

I have reflected on the season this summer though and come to the conclusion that he is a fool…but also the players aren’t great either.

We have a lot of French players, which is fine, don’t care where the lads are from but the issue is France as a national side aren’t that good. They struggle to qualify for major tournaments and when there they fail much worse than England. To top it all off most of our lads don’t even make it into that poor French 11 so how good are they?

Another issue is that the players should tell the manager if they aren’t happy with the style…that’s how people learn, from feedback. Surely there should be more owness on the players to comment and improve the situation.

None of this absolves pardee as the manager carries the can but I don’t think this squad is as good as people say…the players may be technically good but need more than technique to be a top level sportsman…most have good technique…it’s all about what’s between the ears.

  • 30 Transfer Sage // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:12 PM

Also remember that football is syclical.

Nobody stays at the top forever, or very few sides. Nobody thought Liverpool would be stopper but man utd did. Then arsenal, Chelsea and now city challenge.

The top 4 changes often, more settled the past 10/15 years but never the same each year anymore, it keeps changing.

  • 31 Rotonda heights // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:14 PM

    I believe

Ba (top scorer), Colo (captain) and Benny (best player) all did tell Pardew.

What can they do when their natural game is passing and moving in a 433 which was shown to work only for it to be ditched in favour of a negative route 1, 442.

  • 32 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:14 PM

TS…Hello mate. What sort of a transfer sage are you? Spending your summer reflecting? Honestly, sort your stuff out!

I think our players are decent enough, maybe not world class, but still better than last seasons showing. I do agree though, that it was a group effort and ultimately they failed as a group, not just because of Pardew.

  • 33 Rotonda heights // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:15 PM

    cyclical – the grammar police!!

  • 34 Transfer Sage // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:15 PM

The fact is all often league clubs can attract good players..some more than others but all can.

Southampton got gaston Ramirez, Swansea got michu, QPR got remy

So even lesser clubs can get bigger players.

  • 35 tequilamag // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:15 PM

Rotonda, why do you put any store in a story with no quotes and nothing to back it up other than it gives you yet another stick to beat Pardew with.

  • 36 Markaccus // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:16 PM

Well i just thought since the blpg seems to be holding you responsible…..

Seriously though, if pea ends up in dortmund is there other decent players on the cards ( not bent et.c)? Surely carr has done his usual research and has a backup plan

  • 37 Scottiedog // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:17 PM

So what of the story of our £15m bid being rejected?????????

Blogs seem to just cause more and more confusion

  • 38 Belfast // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:17 PM

I’ve been preparing myself for the Carlton Cole signing for a while now.
So it won’t annoy me as much when it happens.

You lot will get really angry though lol

  • 39 Transfer Sage // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:17 PM

A retired one. And yes I agree, very one failed. Some of the simple stuff was terrible by the players, pardew can’t make them pass 10 yards..they should be able to do that.

Maybe that’s why joe kinnear is here. A footballing man unlike lambias where players can go if they think the manager won’t address concerns over style, training etc

And of course cyclical…horrible by me.

  • 40 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:18 PM

Rotonda…Had our style really changed since Colo signed for us? Seems a bit arbitrary for him to have all of a sudden had a problem with it. I honestly don’t think that was the issue with him last season.

    Ba on the other hand….

  • 41 TurkishFan101 // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:18 PM

    @Transfer Sage
“Another issue is that the players should tell the manager if they aren’t happy with the style…that’s how people learn, from feedback. Surely there should be more owness on the players to comment and improve the situation.”

Many players have criticized the way we play. Demba Ba, Coloccini, Cabaye, Enrique (When he was with us), Cisse looked frustrated every game as he was getting played out wide and had got no distribution. Many more players have said the same but not to the media otherwise they would get fined by the club or benched.

“Everybody is entitled to their opinion, we are trying to find a way to win games with a lot of our big players missing.

Whenever they are in the team they will be stronger, whether you play 4-3-3 or 4-4-2, three at the back or whatever system you want to play.

“Last year we did not have the problems with injuries and we were playing all sorts of systems and winning, nobody seemed to notice then”.

This was said during the horrible spell of amount of losses piling up and when he got awarded at 8 year contract. He came up with a range of reasons why he shouldn’t get blamed or his philosophy. We had our starting 11 best players playing but still could not pass the ball around or control it for more then a minute lol…

So as you see, a manager has a big ego for his liking and he thinks he is Mourinho just like JFK thinks hes the 3x LMA and how he signed many players, 2 years at NUFC apparently. You can see why Mike Ashley signed JK.

I agree that Raymond Domenech’s management between 2004-2010 was a shambles, but :-
World Cup – Champions 1998, Runners Up 2006
    Euros – Champions 1984,2000, Semis – 1996, Qtrs – 2004,2012
I’d say that record is a lot better than Englands!

‘Another line on Wigan, with Sky Sports of the understanding that Arouna Kone could soon be heading through the exits. Everton are believed to be closing on a £5million deal.’

We should really be pursuing Bony and Kone in my opinion. Why-oh-why-oh-why sell Perch for 700k..? Looks like that’s happening.

As for Aubameyang, well. I really didn;t think we were ever going to get him anyway. I’d be surprised if he goes for as little as £13m though.

  • 49 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:22 PM

Belfast…Are you almost at the point where you’ll be disappointed if we don’t get Cole? :)

Transfer…I think after last summers “activity” really demoralised Pardew and the players. From day 1 they seemed to have lost that fight and it all just got worse from there. Frustration and lack of confidence seemed to play a big part with our season, whereas the season before, after a decent window, we were flying.

    Perhaps a simplistic observation?

  • 50 rainrix // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:24 PM

Sage…. I think its a fair point. We do tend to overate our players massively. I remember conversations on who in our squad is world class and some people naming 5 or 6 players when in reality its closer to 0. That being said its still a decent squad that should’ve done much better than it did, which is were pardew needs to be held accountable.

Also i dont think a getting into a national team is a good measurement of ability. I mean look at england around the 2006 world cup and euros. Gerrard rooney lampard cole terry ferdinand were really on top of their game at club level some of the best in the world in their positions and yet we totally sucked and completely capitulated to portugal. Some players simply dont transfer form to national teams and others are overlooked entirely.

  • 51 Jamiemac // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:24 PM

If we put in a cheeky 10m bid for Aub in January then I’d imagine we will bid higher in this window. Still hoping.

Mate Since when did JK get Cisse Cabaye MYM HBA Debuchy et al. ?

How is this going to be possible with him as Director Of Football to get signings like that above. Only reason the quality players followed was the tremendous work of Graham Carr and how he could somehow get these talented players to our club.

So how is JK going to achieve this?

Almost all players want success and win silverware combined with a good salary. This is something that NUFC will always find it hard to meet.

German teams are probably the best in Europe at the moment and Borussia Dortmund is one of the best.

As NUFC doesn’t advertise who they are chasing it is only rumour that we have bid or even rebid for him.

Are you a bit slow or something? Have you not yet realised and twigged by now that I absolutely can not stick or abide Pardew in any way shape or form. He is a mendacious slime and a cancer on the club.

I make absolutely no apologies whatsoever for the never rending c..p and endless excuses he has made us endure.

Knocking Pardew is the only way I can vent while others are happy to put up with his never ending BS.

Face it JFK is just an older version of Pardew. Both arrogant, both love themselves, both delusional liars, both route 1 dinosaurs and neither have ever won anything

Some people still think Pardew’s one fluke season in 3, ie 12th, 5th and 16th makes him a consistently good manager. He is not. Check out all his dreadful stats not just here but at West Ham and Charlton

All Pardew’s decisions are always disappointing and negative and opposite to what you want him to do. He doesn’t even want Europe for god’s sake.

Pardew has also failed to address our appalling fitness levels which result in so many injuries or to accept a technical adviser, citing his magnificent coaching staff as good enough when he and they are all clearly out of their depth.

Pardew is out of step with top players, ie playing Mullins and Harewood ahead of Tevez and Mascherano tells you everything you need to know.

    As Beattie said

Disaffected owner, s..t manager and demented D.O.F or words to that effect.

Reality grip, why would PEA even consider Dortmund and there superb stadium with their fans, with Champions League football and all the glory that goes with such a successful football club when he could join us who can boast at having a DOF who is head and shoulders above any other who is in his job.

  • 74 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:43 PM

Torq…Then surely it could use some AC?

Slank…I believe that PEA has over the past year or two mentioned our club at times, which makes me think at the very least we have been interested. I get that doesn’t mean we have offered, but I am fairly confident it’s not just a rumour pulled out from Colins clenched cheeks (sorry, felt like sticking with c’s there).

No doubting that German football is on the rise though, so maybe it’s another case of just being too late to the party.

Rotonda, I’m starting an Alan Pardew fan club, would you like to join. lol

  • 76 tequilamag // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:45 PM

Rotonda, Slow really. Even the dullest brained on here have grasped you are unremitting in your hatred of Pardew. Every post you make has some reference to him. It`s beyond boring. But do carry on. Kets has his lists you like a Pardew bash. We all have to have a hobby.

  • 77 Slank // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:45 PM

Just to add what tequilamag said that the targets we are going after are almost certainly the players that Carr has already identified and has done a detailed analysis of.

Ashley may trust Kinnear but I suggest that he wouldn’t dismiss all the work that Carr and Pardew have done over the last six months.

Kinnear will have a say but I doubt very much whether he could have matched Carr in the amount of work he and his colleagues would have done in the last six months.

Unless of course you believe that Joe has been doing the same thing as Carr over the same period without anyone knowing about it, but I doubt it!

  • 78 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:46 PM

Rotonda…I don’t think anyone has ever claimed Pardew is a consistently good manager based on one good finish with us.

Also….”Pardew has also failed to address our appalling fitness levels which result in so many injuries or to accept a technical adviser, citing his magnificent coaching staff as good enough”…when was this (the not accepting a technical adviser bit)?

  • 79 toon kk // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:47 PM

Its a good thing we don’t advertise our targets we would struggle to get anyone in, as soon as another club finds out about a good signing we’re either out bid or they offer bigger wages.

Rubbish? only rubbish I see is you neglecting for information which is the truth.

    @Transfer Sage

Graham Carr had more then to only identify players, he is our chief scout and he was the important role of the club in order to get them over the line. DL had to negotiate the fee that all not explain to him about the club history and how he would fit in to our project in-doubt about the “Five Year Plan”.

There is a reason Mike Ashley appointed JK as the DOF and that was so that he could speed up the process of negotiations and be the mainstream media man for Newcastle as DL was failing to speak to the fans about whats going on and had failed deals which were deemed to help the club. So JK is the main man responsible with Graham Carr, Pardew will continue to see players come in which he does not have no say in at all, though JK has said all three of them will have a say but to talk about whats reality with Mike it wont happen.

Yes the players signs for Newcastle United, but without a right spokesman and excellent communication skills would the player just come in to Newcastle United knowing nothing other than a clown which is back in NUFC? it was all over the news in France as well about JK returning and how he couldn’t lower our club reputation anymore but he did and continues to.

Joe Kinnear is responsible for mainly transfers as its the pecking order goes

    Joe Kinnear/Graham Carr

It will make a huge difference on who will come or not when JK is negotiating and that was said when Douglas transfer was cancelled.

    “Catalogue each mistake,
    With every post you make,
    Don’t you take a break,
    For goodness sake”

Okay, I’m giving up there. Seemed like I may have been on to something. It seems I wasn’t after all.

  • 82 Slank // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:50 PM

Often a players pimp tries and drives up the transfer fee (and his fee!) by suggesting that his player is interested in another club but as you say there is often no smoke without a fire.

  • 83 tequilamag // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:53 PM

Turkish, nobody really knows whether we were still intersted in signing Douglas. There was nothing from the club only press speculation that Kinnear vetoed the deal and as the press were in full slag off JK mode I would no give it too much credence. At this point everything we read is speculation no more no less.

  • 84 Ibizatoon // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:54 PM

Slank…This is true. I know from my time pimping, I mean…ermm…what is it I meant?

I suppose, as always, we shall just have to wait and see which shirt he holds up to the press.

  • 85 Slank // Jul 2, 2013 at 3:55 PM

    Turkish @ 80

‘Joe Kinnear is responsible for mainly transfers as its the pecking order goes ‘

Quite right but I doubt very much whether he would reject all the work that Graham Carr has done in the last six months.

  • 86 ToonMatt // Jul 2, 2013 at 4:01 PM

Gutted we never signed him and I’ve had enough of this parasite destroying this club, He’s going to drag us down in to the championship next season the sooner he sells the better.

    JARRAMAG // Jul 1, 2013 at 10:18 AM

    Improved bid really?
We have not bid for him and wont-do you think Ashley is going to pay over £15 mill for him when cheaper players are out there?

    Of course he isn’t

Ashley wants to recoup the £18 mill he spent in Jan so all we can expect is the sale of Cabaye £20-25 mill
and the difference spent on a striker-£5-7 mill and books balanced

No capital expenditure(the motto we use)

    God help us

I posted this yesterday and would love to be wrong but i feel i wont be far off the mark

    The Magic Roundabout ( better known as NUFC ) is a BBC children’s television program, was created in France by Serge Danot in 1963. The original pilot programs were filmed in Serge Danot’s bathroom, the French version of the show was known in France as Le Manège enchanté ( or Sports Direct Merry Go Round );

    Brian: Snail – Pardew
Dougal: Shaggy Dog – Collo ( we love the hair style )
    Dylan: Spacey Rabbit – JFK
Ermintrude: Pink Cow -what you hallucinate after following our transfer sagas
Florence: Girl – Wendy our Press Lady
    Mr McHenry: Gardener – Groundsman
Zebedee: Jack In A Box – MA

    Bong !

  • 91 luke.r // Jul 2, 2013 at 5:57 PM

getting annoyed at hearing all these stories! Why would they apparently accept an 18 mil pound bid from Anzi and then we hear nothing about it and then decline a 15 mil bid from us but accept a 13 mil bid from Dortmund. Something isn’t right here.

  • 92 Dearka // Jul 2, 2013 at 7:03 PM

if we sale James Perch and fail to buy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang it will prove Kinnear’s couldnt do this job

  • 93 silmanj12 // Jul 2, 2013 at 7:56 PM

Let’s not worry. Have we already forgotten? We have the best Director of Football in the Premier League….”head and shoulders above the rest”!!!
