Newcastle have been linked with Vitesse striker Wilfred Bony who scored 31 goals in just 30 appearances for the Dutch club last season.
Wilfired Bony – two clubs have agreed £10.2M fee
And since we seem to be about to miss out on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Newcastle will need to turn their attention to other targets.
But it seems Bony has his heart set on joining Swansea City who seem willing to match Vitesse’s asking price of €12M (£10.2M) for the 24 year-old.
This is what the Ivory Coast International said in Voetbal International over the weekend:
“The clubs are now talking to each other, Swansea has made Vitesse a bid and I hope it’s good,” “Swansea is a wonderful club. It’s my chance to play in the Premier League and they also play attractive football.
“I understood from my agent that Swansea want to pay €12M (£10.2M) for me and that is what Vitesse want to receive, so I hope there is some good news soon.”
Vitesse had a massive season last term, in large part due to Bony’s goal scoring prowess and finished fourth in the Eredivisie.
And last week there were even stories that Bony had signed for the Welsh club, but Vitesse issued the following statement:
“On Thursday afternoon June 27 appeared in various media reported that Wilfried Bony to move to Premier League club Swansea City. This message is incorrect.”
“For the striker, top scorer in the Eredivisie last season, there is admittedly much interest and Swansea City are one of the interested clubs. However, a transfer is not the case.”
And yesterday it was reported that West Ham have made a similar £10.2M bid for the striker, and that has matched Swansea’s bid. Howe West Ham can shell out another £10M, after spending a massive £15M on Andy Carroll is beyond us.
No sign of Newcastle in the bidding yet, and yes – you probably got it – the fee is probably too high for the Tyneside club.
Newcastle are still looking for that top striker they can get in for a decent (low) price – if they can find him this summer – and that’s not Darren Bent.

Comment #201When we got relegated last time out, as much as it pained me… I thought it done us the world of good.
We cleared the decks of players who just didnt wish to be hear and play for the shirt…
How bad are things getting with the club that a small part of me is thinking that with the near miss of survival last term, the appointment of JFK. Wonga shirt sponsorship, the sale of Perchino coupled with the alledged interest in Bent, Remy, Matt Taylor…
Maybe we need to take a step back in order to progress agin?
I don’t think Pardew will last till Christmas tbh… If the negative vibes continue from the stands towards the club, that too will have an adverse effect on a team that woefully under performed (tactics and injuries)…
The only way that Mike gets a bloody nose would be for the house of cards to collapse and part of me thinks… It would serve HIM right!
