Lyon Make French International Striker Available – Magpies Interested

8:23 pm, Thursday, July 4th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 189 Comments

Newcastle have been linked with Lyon striker Bafétimbi Gomis before, in fact we put in a £10M bid for him back in the summer of 2008 when he was still at St. Etienne, and there is news coming out of France today, that he has been made available for transfer by his current club Lyon.

batefembi gomis

Bafétimbi Gomis – made available by Lyon

The report is in le10sport and here it is and you can have it translated automatically to English by Google Chrome, and probably by other web browsers too.

The Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas wants to sell the 27 year-old Gomis as a priority this summer, although the player himself was happy enough to remain at Lyon to increase his chances of getting into the French World Cup squad for next summer’s tournament in Brazil.

There was a meeting between the Gomis representatives and the Lyon President on Monday, at which time Gomis was told to find a new club.

However, it is then all conjecture about Newcastle, but the report suggests Newcastle may be interested – and there are at least a couple of reasons for that.

We have missed out on out top striker target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who signed for Borussia Dortmund today as expected, and Newcastle have been interested in Gomis in the past.

In fact the report in le10sport says Newcastle have already contacted Lyon, and the French club are in need of the cash, so if Newcastle think Gomis could do a good job on Tyneside, presumably we could even arrange a decent deal for the 10 times capped French International.

We’ve never been too impressed with Gomis, and we’d prefer Loic Remy from QPR for £8M, but it seems like good strikers are available in the transfer market, so we wait for Joe Kinnear and Mike Ashley to get the job done.

Gomis did play for France in South America in the June friendlies, but he didn’t look too impressive.

But Newcastle need two good strikers brought to Tyneside this summer.

What do you think?

Alright lads it has been fun but it is coffee time :)

…we will no doubt talk again tomorrow!

  • 2 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:28 PM

Apart from PEA all our targets seem to be amazingly underwhelming and average at best

  • 3 geordie157 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:28 PM

I might be in the minority but i don’t rate Gomis.

Siem De Jong, Luuk De Jong, Gamiero, Hooper, Austin, would all be better options.

Is Nelson Oliveira still good, haven’t heard anything about him in the last year or so?!?!

  • 4 geordie157 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:29 PM

    oh and Doumbia!!

  • 5 t00ntime // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:30 PM

I dont know why, I just dont rate Gomis highly :S I’ve only seen him play once or twice so cant really judge. looking at his records he is is definitely better buy than kone/bent (mostly due to age imo)

  • 6 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:32 PM

    Geordie 157
Think oliviera has been on loan at deportivo not sure how he got on like

Agree, would prefer any of them over gomis

  • 7 leazes upper ( moved to the gallowgate ) // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:34 PM

We’d end up with Gomez off the adams family if JK had owt to do with it

  • 8 pawl250 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:35 PM

De Jong, Remy would be my choice!

Not that it will happen …. EVER!

More likely to sign some average mid age player!

We have a decent squad we just need to bolster it for competition and options.

Hoping we get this signing JK talked about tomorrow! Fans begging for it after watching
Sunderland buy 4/5 now and linked and bidding for 2 or 3 more!

  • 9 toon kk // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:36 PM

How many players have we been linked to? Its all speculation and rubbish. We’re becoming a embarrassment.

  • 10 geordie157 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:37 PM

Gomis reminds me too much of Kenwyne Jones, he can be unplayable but a lot of the time games can pass him by.

Checked on Nelson Oliviera and his record on loan for Deportivo is on par with Xisco’s when he was there the season before.

  • 11 bills-son // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:42 PM

Remy for £8M and Bent for £5M would give us four strikers with Cisse and Gouffran and then Camplbell is coming through. Having said that I think Kone would be a great signing to play alongside Cisse or Remy. Physical, holds the ball up well and runs all day. A very good buy for £6M.

Rodrigo from Benfica have been linked but forgotten.

  • 14 JackButler // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:43 PM

Gomis = French version of Kenwyne Jones

  • 15 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:45 PM

What do people think to Yoann Gourcuff?

  • 16 Belfast // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:45 PM

I think Remy will end up at Spurs to be honest.

Apparently Adebayor is off to Turkey.

  • 17 Belfast // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:47 PM

This Gomis guy is another player who we’ve been linked with many times.

  • 18 Sazzer // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:47 PM

    2012/13 – Nani, Valencia, Young, Welbeck = 6 goals.

2012/13 – Terry, Ivanovic, David Luiz, Cahill = 27 goals

    from Twitter.

  • 20 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:49 PM

Welbeck and Young aren’t good enough. Valencia is the best player out of the 4. Nani had a poor season, but is decent.

  • 21 Joe Blog // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:49 PM

I reckon Mario Gomez will end up at Spurs, particularly if Adebayor leaves.

  • 22 ToonDanno // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:49 PM

This another story which is rubbish. Don’t believe

  • 23 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:50 PM

I think Man Utd will struggle to make the top 10 this season. Their squad is very average compared with Arsenal, Spurs, City, Chelsea. I’d rather have our squad than theirs if we signed another two quality strikers.

  • 24 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:52 PM

Now PEA is a gonna along with Lens, I would actually like Remy as our options are becoming more limited. We need pace and finishing and he has both (and heading).

Money, Fernandez, whatever. We were hardly riding high up the league were we. We were close to QPR in the league (nice one Alan) And for someone who has no prior affiliation to our club, I don’t think choosing them should go against him too much. A lot of people would a have done a similar thing.

If we were comfortably in the top half of the table we may have seen a different outcome and he could well have been here instead.

Even then, he would have just continued to paper over the cracks of our abysmal coaching and tactical philosophy which Pardew proceeds to blag his way through to earn his salary.

Honouable mention: Rtaylor in EL in two games.

  • 28 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:54 PM

Kets, I like Gouffran. Decent and thoughtful on the ball, pace and has some strength too. Decent shot power.

Again, a decent system and interplay would see players like Gouffran step up two or three gears I think.

  • 29 geordie157 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:55 PM

From your Homo fixation on Alderwiereld, or fantasy signings with strange price tags and now saying UTD will struggle to make TOP 10 WTF.

  • 31 geordie157 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:56 PM

Rodrigo would be good, i’d forgotten about him. Really liked Gaitan when they played us, although he’s probably way out of our price range.

  • 32 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:56 PM

I’ve written decent three times there. John Anderson’s voice must be subliminally taking over my mind temporarily.

  • 33 Moe // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:57 PM

Don’t rate Gomiz either, he was a potential at some point but doesn’t seem to fulfill his promise

We need a Cisse competition and a shadow striker or even an attacking midfielder. I would to see us at least rumored to Eriksen, some ambition please!

  • 34 geordie157 // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:58 PM

Kets in charge of Man Utd, he’d sell Vidic, Jones and Smalling for Scharner, Boyce and Caldwell for starters!

  • 35 JackButler // Jul 4, 2013 at 8:58 PM

Kévin Gameiro and Seydou Doumbia anyone?

  • 36 Belfast // Jul 4, 2013 at 9:00 PM

You can just imagine kets walking into the boardroom with his list of 25 players he wanted to sign

  • 37 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2013 at 9:01 PM

I don’t think Welbeck’s good enough. Infact he’s a poor player. I’d hate it if we signed him. Players like Kone and Bent are more influential than him and that’s a fact.

United have Van Persie, Hernandez and Valencia but all the rest are distinctly average. Who would you rather have? Oscar and Hazard or Cleverly and Carrick.? Their midfield is extremely weak.

Now they don’t have sir Alex, I can see them struggling unless they make 7/8 first team signings.

We we’re better than them last season in the games we played against them. We had a poor team out then.

I’m sure we’ll beat them twice this season if we sign the players we need.

  • 38 paul24 // Jul 4, 2013 at 9:01 PM

It’s all smoke and mirrors, we arent getting PEA, Bony, Gomis or Remy. It’ll be Darren Bent and or Arouna Kone.

at worst i would like a quality striker and someone like Wijnaldum.

ideally, out with Wilo, Gosling, Amalfitano, Jonas, Obertan and Shola.

in with Siem De Jong, Wijnaldum, Bridcutt, Maguire and Sinclair.

  • 46 jazzyp // Jul 4, 2013 at 9:14 PM

I wonder if he’s managed to get hold of Bill Shankley yet?

  • 50 Ian Toon // Jul 4, 2013 at 9:26 PM

Not for me. The player who would be perfect though to fill our problematic 10 role is Siem de Jong. Some weeks ago he was reported to have said that it was time for him to move on to either the Premier or Bundesliga to aid his international career.

He’s 24 and Carr has been monitoring his play for the last two seasons. By far the best attacking midfielder we’ve been linked with and perfect to link the play in the last third and in a style not by passing the midfield which was a common criticism of our play last season.

With the midfield players we have we should be able to convince him that we will be playing the sort of football to suit his favoured style of play. De Jong is keen to ensure that he joins a team playing football in a World Cup season. He could well favour the Bundesliga but I didn’t think we had a chance of getting Yanga.

“In England a lot of clubs won’t suit me because I want to go to a club that plays football,” he explained. “I don’t want to go to a club that doesn’t involve the midfield in their play.”

  • 51 toon kk // Jul 4, 2013 at 9:28 PM

  • 54 Newcastle for alltid // Jul 4, 2013 at 9:33 PM

    Ketsbaia9

Saying that Man Utd has got an average team that will struggle to make the top 10 is so out there as it gets.
They may not make the cracking signings as frequently as, say, City or Chelsea. And player for player, their names may not sound as talented and exciting, but remember that Man Utd have had the continuity a lot of other teams lack. With that, they have developed a certain mentality that they can somewhat beat every team there is. A winning mentality, where a good result always seems likely.

Should be needless to say all this, as them having a poor team is just wrong. You won’t win the league with a 12 point margin, and have Real Madrid almost beaten 11 vs 11 if you have a poor team.

Been trying to find out why we have supposedly pulled out of talks with Kone. Couldn’t find much apart from Owen Coyle stating that he understood from Kones’ representatives that he wanted to go to Everton. Coyle also said;-
“There is no problem. He goes with our blessing because I need players who need to be at Wigan. If his heart’s elsewhere then he’s no good to me.”
Reminds me of a certain player from South America.

  • 73 lesh // Jul 4, 2013 at 9:56 PM

I know it’s early days yet but any transfers depend on Joe’s say say and, and this is the key, whether there’s anyone in the club to sort out and agree the ins and outs of the finances, now that Llambias has gone?

Somehow, and sorry to sound like a doom-monger, but I can see Kinnear’s appointment being a total disaster for Newcastle United. He’s bound to have been totally out of touch with the dynamics of football as a business, let alone who’s who in the game.

    I truly hope I’m wrong.

Remy is our number one target. Pea was second choice. Only reason we are holding back is Remy impendeing court case. All those who expect signings to replace those leaving will be disappointed. We will get a couple of signings in but the youth are gonna be expected to step up now

  • 82 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jul 4, 2013 at 10:08 PM

@Jimmysmith – finally someone else who’s not exactly shouting from the rooftops about the prospect of Remy.

There is a chance- probably unlikely but still a chance- that he will be incarcerated for rape. How can we possibly validate spending 8 million pounds on him at the moment?

Especially when we spend so little money anyway- 8m will probably be everything we spend.

  • 83 Taking the Papiss // Jul 4, 2013 at 10:10 PM

    Already guys,

What a weird day with Kone… Ashley makes a bid, everyone finds out, Ashley pulls the plug. I am uncertain on Kone so not sure if its a good or bad thing but slightly bizarre.

I genuinely don’t think we need to go big this summer and 3 recruits will be sufficient.

I think that Remy is an option but the rape charge is worrying. I really don’t rate Ince but not a winger, and another striker would be great.

I have had time to reflect on PEA and I am going to get shot down big time on this but my view is this. We bid on him in January, St Etienne made it clear that it wasn’t a question of valuation but they definitely weren’t going to sell…he also wanted to win a cup with them so stayed. That’s all fair enough. Fast forward to today and he has signed for Dortmund ie we never had a chance. Even if we had gone for him at the beginning of window, it would have just brought the BVB bid forward.

Even though he is an excellent player he also isn’t exactly what we needed. He plays up front or wide on the right. So he couldn’t play in the same time as Cisse and Ben Arfa unless we went 4-4-2 but I think we all think Ben Arfa is better as winger or attacking midfielder than ordinary right midfielder.

I think we should be looking for 2 out and out strikers (ideally Remy and Kone/Bent) and a winger (not sure which I would like).

  • 84 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2013 at 10:11 PM

Tom Ince isn’t good enough for us. Real Madrid aren’t a great team at the moment. Don’t rate Arbeloa.

Man Utd have a new manager now. They’ll be major problems their as their playing staff isn’t up to standard (i.e. in comparison with Arsenal, Spurs, Us, Chelsea, City and Liverpool.

If Swansea and Soton sign the players they’re linked with, I reckon they could both finish above Man Utd this season.

Rooney will either leave or struggle as he is obviously unhappy and hasn’t been playing great.

Williamson is the fourth centre half at the moment and has filled in many times but he needs a fresh challenge and a team in the fizzy would suite, young Dummet is good lad and is a beast of a tackler with a sweet left foot, I would rather see him introduced at centre half and let willy go, Dummet is a really Decent full back as well who always pulled young ameobi out the crap in the reserves, Dummet was captain of the reserves and has a great attitude also.

  • 93 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2013 at 10:20 PM

United struggled against Basle and Ajax last season. Vidic is too injury prone. We could do with Valencia. Van Persie must be 30 soon. Rooney wants out. Young and Welbeck are useless. Cleverly needs to be loaned back to Wigan. Ferdinand, Scholes and Giggs are past it. Rafael is a poor right back. Evra is a great left back but will be leaving. Carrick is the most overrated player in the premiership and doesn’t offer anything. Hernandez is a great finisher.

Overall, they aren’t very good. If they win the league this year i’ll get a tattoo on my forehead.

N’Zogbia, Bearsejour, Zarate, Alderweireld, Kone and Remy would be a good window for us. They’d cost under £20m

Siem de Jong was outstanding against Man City in the Champions League. A player who would potentially lift us into competition for a top 5 or 6 place. Tom Ince would give us a much needed left wideman presence. Don’t judge him on under 21 performances little support and not used properly by a clueless Pearce.

Nzogbia and Milner, the ones that got away would be super additions, no chance of course, for one reason or another.

If only HBA could get a leg in more often and score more goals, he’d be a great no 10 behind Cisse, with those two up and down either flank.

    Splendid, dreaming.

With all due respect Marv wouldn’t get within a bulls roar of the Man U starting 11. He struggles to get into ours and rightly so, can’t or won’t defend to an acceptable level for this league. Benny is same ballpark, short of whats demanded from a truly top side when the opposition has the ball.

Looking at the aborted Kone bid, I wonder if our ambassador at large (Joe Kinnear that is), has gone wading in at Wigan with that bid without knowing about the ‘friendship’ between Whelan and Ashley

Seeing an opportunity to embarrass Ashley, Whelan announces that he’s had an acceptable bid from hm. Ashley’s got wind of the bid and, kerplunk, the plug’s pulled on it.

And, Joe gets another bollocking. It’ll all end in tears!!

Personally, I think that Doumbia is unreal! He’s rapid, strong for his size, can finish and is passionate which makes him perfect for us. :D He missed more or less all of last season and those who say he’s out of our price range need to wise up! He was worth around £16 million last summer and this year I’d say that has dropped to at least £10 million!

  • 146 AaranD // Jul 5, 2013 at 12:52 AM

Remy, Siem De Jong and Ince coupled with some youth prospects and all in all that would be a great summers work.

I would take Doumbia all day every day and with that Musa kid playing ahead of him he probably is up for a move but I think CSKA are asking more towards £20million

  • 147 Sazzer // Jul 5, 2013 at 12:59 AM

CSKA Moscow have sold few of their top players Zhirkov and Jo around 20 m £ and Vagner Love 9 m £. The bought Doumbia at 9 m £ and Musa at around 5 m £.

So not impossible that we can get one of them if we are desperate.

  • 148 RonVanDam // Jul 5, 2013 at 1:21 AM

Forget about Kone. He doesnt fit our blue print.

Doumbia would be a maybe, he’s 5’10. Height may play a part in getting him.

Remy – might all depend on how MA feels about him after he left Mike hanging in the last window.

Bent could be a possibility. Proven PL experience, “hungry” to get in the England squad. Cheap. Just like Kone, doesnt fit our blueprint

Gomis can go …… himself. Wont suit the PL and will get lost during games.

  • 152 Newcastle Brown Alien // Jul 5, 2013 at 2:31 AM

How can you think cisse is worth more than Ba?

  • 153 9gauche9 // Jul 5, 2013 at 3:00 AM

Cisse is still highly thought of in Germany, and there are plenty of rich russian teams who would take a punt on him. He had a great 1st season and still managed 13 goals in a struggling team last season.

I know Chelsea got Ba on the cheap but he hasnt doesnt much there to increase his value. Mourinho has already bought Schurrle for £18m and it looks like he could get Cavani too. Don’t think Ba figures in his plans at all. I reckon we could get him for around £10m or even try to loan him.

  • 154 SeanNufc87 // Jul 5, 2013 at 4:47 AM

Dont think cabaye would be leaving for anything less than 25 considering the clubs after him.

Not a chance on Douglas, would be bench warmer and wants first team, we have already pulled out of a deal with him.

Chelsea aint getting Cavani, hes going to psg, I think jose is more likely to let moses go than ba.

I agree with most the outs except cisse, as your suggesting we get rid of all our strikers for a bloke with a dodgy knee, a prospect that fell off the face of the earth last season and a lad who could be in prison in September.

Cant comment on ferr as hes one of a few players iv never seen play, I think hes a winger right?

Id take ince and sinclair though I think we could get scott for 6 if we put the cheeky bid in soon.

  • 155 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jul 5, 2013 at 5:05 AM

    @ 9gauche9 – Some of those I agree with, some I don’t.

Wouldn’t want Cisse sold or resigning Ba.
Would ask for much more than 20m for Cabaye (It is PSG!!! at least 30!!). Not sure on Ince, don’t think Guidetti would come at the moment.
Not sure about Scott Sinclair either- would rather have Ince.

Douglas looks like Kinnear has squashed it with his big ‘doom-bringer’ boot and will go elsewhere.

Amalfitano is a strange one, seems that the ‘hit and hope’ man Pardew thinks he’s too slight and weak to play despite him looking like a decent passer when he did play. Not sure if he’ll ever get a chance.

I’m really worried that we’ll only buy one 1st team player this summer- just like last season which is what set us up for the abysmal season which it was.

If it’s Bent then I’ll just hope we can get back in to the Premier league on the first attempt like last time.

  • 156 SeanNufc87 // Jul 5, 2013 at 5:14 AM

    Go nufc

Amilfitano has never shown any passing skill at all, iv seen him play twice as a substitute and both times he showed glimpses of silky footwork then promptly lost the ball, id be surprised if he made 6 complete passes in either game. But hey I might be blinded by the fact he gave the ball away nearly every time he had it.

We have lost harps perch and Simpson so far if we only bring one in then we’re boned. I cant see that being the case though.

  • 157 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jul 5, 2013 at 5:25 AM

@Sean – lol, yeah I agree he wasn’t great. But there was one pre season game where I remember him playing one beautifully weighted and curved through ball for the full back to run on to, that’s why I mentioned his passing but I do remember him giving it away quite a bit as well.

I think he was largely bought in the hope that he could turn out as good as his brother.

If we only bring one first teamer in like last season then we’ll have another season like last season.

But I still can’t shake the feeling that that’s the plan. We’ll get that classic:

“Because of the staff changes we just couldn’t get them over the line, but at least we did our business in January anyway….”

After weeks of Pardew saying “We should get 1 or 2 through the door by next week” like last summer with nothing ever coming of it.

This summer really is make or break.

  • 162 Santon03 // Jul 5, 2013 at 6:38 AM

I like the idea that pardew keep quiet about transfers.
I don’t know if it’s true or not that pardew want to keep Perch on the team, but looking at the list of midfield that we have Perch won’t get much chances. We have too many defensive midfields and Perch probably the weakest among them. With Perch sold, we still have Bigi, Anita, Gosling, Tiote, Sissoko, Cabaye as center midfield. Also Marv sometimes play in CM.
I don’t know about Gosling future, but with Perch gone Gosling, Bigi, and Anita will have more chances. If we go 100% with what pardew wants, those players will have little hope improving, this way we will see better players in midfield role. Abeid will probably not be sold, I think that will be more than enough players for CM.\ roles.
I do like Perch and his work ethics but I think selling him is the correct decission.
Wide midfielders will depend on how pardew tactic, we do have capable wing backs doing wingers job, but it depends how pardew set the team.
Strikers, we do need 1 or 2 more, one quick and one targetman. Shola is hopeless, he would probably stay and become 4th or 5th choice behind Campbell.
I really do hope Kinnear will be more involve and give pardew some needed insults when he starts playing ugly hoofball tactic, because looking at the players we have, 90% of them are not equiped for hoofball.

The only problem for me is that perch has actually looked our best defensive midfielder since tiote went rapidly downhill.

Cabaye and anita are too weak and cant tackle, gosling is just poor, sissoko wont head the ball and seems to want to be a striker.

Gutted hes going for a tiny fee utility players like that are invaluable imo

Most of them were poor last season, which didn’t take much for Perch to be outstanding, but if all of them are in good form then you will see Perch isn’t that good.
Anita didn’t get much chance, Cab was injured mostly and wasn’t 100% fit. Tiote was missmanaged I think, he was trying to play as playmaker ala Pirlo and pardew let him, he was supposed to be ball-winner. He hold the ball too long and in dangerous area.
I don’t believe Gosling is poor, I didn’t see him play much tbh, I don’t think any of us watched him play much either.
I remember when our 1st season back in epl, Perch got 5 yellow cards in 5 games.

Jesper…A good morning to you sir. It’s Friday. the weekend is upon us and anything is possible. That last part would excite normal people, but as Newcastle fans we should probably brace ourselves for an upset :)

beddersmag…I don’t think Bigi is too far off tbh. Needs a decent run of games and I’m fairly confident he’d grow in to the position. I suppose the big question is. I also have little doubt that given a run of games that Anita would prove to be a vital starting player.

Indian…I get your point, there have been a lot of bad decisions, but how about Graham Carr as one good decision?

  • 170 Transfer Sage // Jul 5, 2013 at 7:23 AM

Well wonder if we can get a few players in soon, give them more time to integrate, make it a little easier for them to start the season. Only time will tell and if we don’t..who cares, it’s just a game of football.

Not sure why people are keen on Remy, good player but until he is either charged or told he won’t be charged we should not commit money to him.

I just think we need 2 players to have a good season. A tricky/pacey forward and a good left sided forward/winger.

Anything after that is just to add depth or improve on an already good area of the team.

Who knows who was in for him. Maybe he wanted first team football and to leave. But i wouldnt have asked for any amount. Would have kept him in our small and shrinking squad. • 172 Transfer Sage // Jul 5, 2013 at 7:33 AM

I agree…why get rid of a reliable squad player who doesn’t cause a fuss for such a small amount. He was decent cover for 3/4 positions.

Man utd had average players like him for years…john o’shea did a lot of similar work to perch for man utd.

If they feel we have adequate cover, fine, or if he wanted first team football thats fine too. Just knowing how we work it will not have been fully thought through, just like every other decision with Ashley…they are all short term..never think how a decision impacts long term.

  • 175 Santon03 // Jul 5, 2013 at 7:36 AM

Regarding Douglas, I’m super glad that we didn’t go for him. He is an @ss.
He was in negotiation contract with Anzi and he hold signing contract, because he hope Inter will go in for him.

    santon

Thats fair enough by douglas…surely you should to go to the club you want…dont rush it for the benefit of others.

I think that he would have been a good player for us to get on a free but is no great loss. We have 4 CBs anyway so other positions are priority.

  • 177 WWYCD // Jul 5, 2013 at 7:47 AM

Reading Southampton are leading the chase for Damiao now I don’t mind being beat out for fine players by better teams but Damiao is a great player, I’ve seen him play in the flesh, and he looked at home in St James. If he’s interested in Southampton we should be flashing our eyelashes at him too

Be a damn fine statement of intent…yeah who am I kidding

  • 178 Santon03 // Jul 5, 2013 at 7:48 AM

    TS

Inter hasn’t gone for Douglas, he just heard that Inter might be interested. You might remember last time when we tried to sign him, it was too complicated and he has too many agents.
It would be disaster if we had signed him. Yes, financially he is good because he is free, but for the team morale it would be bad. He wants 1st team priority, but he hasn’t proved that he is good enough for epl and who will be sacrificed? I doubt pardew will play 3 CB formation. He could be another Cacapa or Boumsong.

Thats when you tell him to earn his place. Say to him to impress in training and to take his chance in a cup or when there is an injury…same with all sports sides.

And you never know…inter might not have made an offer publicly but all sorts is discussed in private, so many non-disclosure agreements are signed to prevent people talking and some just keep quiet to keep their cards close to their chest.

I’m not sure why we can’t compete financially with the likes of swansea, cardiff, southampto, even hull…..is everyone else doing it wrong and we are doing it right? or is it more likely that we are doing things wrong?

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-look-set-snub-4872264 Looks like Remy is off the agenda.

    Sage
Judgemental annoyed guess they are looking to grow and succeed we are looking to stay in the league and pull in money. Lets not forget the clubs pulling in an extra 60 million minimum this year on top of everything sky gives them

  • 182 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 5, 2013 at 8:06 AM

For the last six seven weeks me like many others log on to see if we are going to sign anyone

    SADLY

I think that know one will be coming in as we bought our ‘summer quota’ in January to stave of relegation.

Wheres the extra 60mil from? heard sky/bt was an extra 20/25…what else have we managed to get?

  • 184 WWYCD // Jul 5, 2013 at 8:12 AM

    Sage
The new tv deal from bt was set to give clubs an extra 60 alone last I read

  • 185 Jail for Ashley // Jul 5, 2013 at 8:12 AM

    Transfer,
Good to see you posting again, I agree with you on both counts of what we need up top but I still think we need a RB who can compete with Debuchy and not just cover him otherwise we might see a few repeats of the Liverpool tantrum.

  • 186 Transfer Sage // Jul 5, 2013 at 8:12 AM

    charlie

not sure what will happen. We are moving slow but you never know. Transfer windows tend to have a domino effect so once a few in our circle get moving we might too.

  • 187 WWYCD // Jul 5, 2013 at 8:15 AM

Hasten to add that could be wrong however even 20 million added on to everything else the club gets is still a hell of a lot of money

  • 188 Transfer Sage // Jul 5, 2013 at 8:16 AM

    wwycd

ah right, i thought it was just 25…but 60 is much better haha.

    jfa

just had a little break, football is not a summer sport so avoid it for my more favoured sports. But like to check in every now and then to see whats happening.

Yeh debuchy cover would be nice but could always have santon push him and haidara take left back spot.

  • 189 James RS // Jul 5, 2013 at 10:14 AM

God no…second rate from what Ive seen of him. We’ll end up with the summer scraps as usual; the Lyon fans want rid too…relegation looms. Get Remy and stop p******g about Newcastle.
