Some of the headlines of articles over the last several weeks have been that Alan Pardew’s silence has been deafening to Newcastle fans, and that’s been very true.
Alan Pardew – we hope he’s smiling today
Ever since Joe Kinnear was shockingly appointed the Director of Football (what was Mike Ashley thinking?), then Alan has probably done the right thing, and held a (long) diplomatic silence.
And it’s what Joe Kinnear should have done, but Joe being Joe, has shot his mouth off again, so to speak, and caused all kinds of trouble.
And it’s been as bad as the 53 F words he used in his first press conference as Newcastle’s interim manager in September, 2008, when he let fly at the Daily Mirror’s Simon Bird for some things Simon had written about Joe.
But Alan Pardew is now back in Newcastle and taking his first training session at Benton today, and news is that he has already given an interview to nufcTV, and we’re hoping that interview will be published today.
Newcastle players in training today – Alan’s on the right
And like a lot of important interviews, and this one is important, we hope the club will release the video so all fans can see it, and not only those who have a nufcTV subscription.
But we don’t expect Alan Pardew to be anything like Joe Kinnear, and he’ll say all the right things – but that’s what he should be doing to try to calm things down on Tyneside, after Kinnear managed in a twinkling of an eye to upset almost every single Newcastle fan with that outrageous talkSPORT interview.
Nobody can ever accuse Joe of being a diplomat, which is uusally needed in the executive ranks, but rather he’s his very own fan club. 😀
And I’ve had a few notes from some readers saying in truth we’re not really too bad off this summer, and that’s right, and we have to remember we brought in five top Frenchmen in January, and we’ve yet to see the best of them.
But my concern now is with Joe Kinnear – and he’s a loose cannon if ever there was one – and that’s the concern many fans have about the coming season – what damage will Joe Kinnear do?
What do you think?

Comment #82We are a bigger club than most PL clubs, but a “BIG” club is Madrid, Juventus, Munich, Man Utd, City, Chelsea, Barca ….. Even Liverpool from its past and worldwide following!
If we are big, they are MASSIVE! or GIGANTIC!
We are a slighty higher than standard size club, with a larger than normal following. We are bigger than Sunderland but they are in a similar mold.
Anyone who is honest would know and see this. That is why we are classed as deluded as our fans say we are a big club, yet compared to likes of Barca which are classed as big we are average!
Accept it! Perhaps in the past we were big, but so were Blackburn, Villa, Leeds, Inter ….. You see me point!
Deluded or not no one can say we have an average following, we are very passionate but the club is not as big as our hearts say it is.

Shut up you plank so our style of play isn`t Pardew`s either.
Laudrup just stands by in training and says play the way Martinez showed you

Comment #84Newcastle attract alot more fans then other teams that’s why people say we are a big club. Say for arguments sake every team in England had a 200,000 seater stadium( unrealistic i know) i don’t think many teams would get as many fans in it as us.

Comment #85pawl250….so you say the playing style Swansea play is not Laudrup’s doing?
…so Laudrup is just a puppet of his presesours? Have you seen have he likes his team to play when he was Ass. Manager for the Danisg Nationalteam, when he coached Brøndby, Getafe, Moscow or Mallorca?
Swansea’s style of play is much more direct than what is use to be, and most of the passing takes place on the oppositions half side.
This nonsense is a misconception started by people who doesn’t know the difference between different formations and styles.

Comment #87Remember the days in the 5th place season when Pardew was being mentioned as a possible England manager? I don’t hear too much of that now. Nor will we in the future I would think. His next position will be at the back of the dole queue.

Comment #89People I am not defending Kinnear in any form, his recent statements in the press are laughable!
And yes he makes us look bad. I agree he may or may not be the right man, I like the idea of a footballing type in DoF but Kinnear is not the man for me. We will see what happens though.
Last season we didn’t sign in summer, surely we learn from our mistakes. But to complain 6 days into the window is sorry to say PATHETIC lol
I just dont understand why people feel we should have signed everyone we want to buy by now. No one knows what is and what has happened behind the scenes in terms of transfers. But 6 days judgement is just stupid! Wait and see! That is all, complaining does not help!
As for people saying I defend Kinnear, I have done no such thing.
I merely think we will sign players, we have a good squad, good enough to finish top 10, that includes 10th!! More to the point 7th to 10th!
My opinion of course but people should relax and time will tell how we do!

Comment #90Daz look at Swansea last season, look at Swansea the season before the style is the same!!
Pardew has been our manager for 2 seasons and abit, he has his own stamp. After Hughton though the team played very similar to Hughton style.
Laudrup has had one season, Pardew finished 5th his first season, higher than Swansea! Ok he won the League cup but what is the bigger accomplishment these days?
Birmingham won the LC a couple years ago!
Name the last team to get 5th outside the standard top 6? 7? Everton who have been constant? Beyond that who?
Pardew is an awful manager but managed to take a team to 5th, a better accomplishment!!! By far!
Laudrup is a better manager though! By far!

Comment #92Actually Wigan had a very good passing style, and at times unlucky! Martinez did remarkable to win the FA cup with half the team Swansea had!
Liverpool actually tried doing a Swansea, you will find that the first half the season Skrtel and Agger are not comfortable on the ball and made poor passes allowing easy goals for opposition.
Rogers even came out and said it was his fault asking players to play that way!
As for Laudrup Swansea have not changed much, the only reason they are more direct is because Michu is a better target man than Graham and Sinclair both who were Swanseas most advanced players the previous season.
Passing the ball still very much happens in the back 4 of their own half …. Watch the games u will see that is true!
Not much different. We will see the test and resolve of Laudraup this season, 1 season does not defy a manager!
Kinnear managed to get Wimbeldon in a decent position 1 season, hence his manager of the year …. Enough said!

Based on fans
Barca
Madrid
Dortmund
Munich
City
Utd
Arsenal
Chelsea?
Spurs
Liverpool
And a few more German clubs will probably get more fans than us.
We are unique as we are a slightly above average club that is not successful like those mentioned yet still manage to attract fans week in week out and won’t b far behind those listed.
My opinion, but we are not BIG!

Comment #96That’s a moot point, his first season he won this or that.
Does not mean he will do the same next season! He won a league cup, Alex Mcleish did it with a squad half as good as Swansea is he a better manager?
He also played Arsenal in final not Bardford!
Does that mean he is a better manager? no!
As stated your argument is stupid. Laudrup is a good manager but he is not amazing!
He is good, Pardews 5th acheivement is arguably better than winning a league cup, but we would all prefer the League cup for a cup! How sad is that!

Comment #101Here’s a possible scenario for this summer and early next season: Kinnear, being a football genius (as he has told us many times) decides to show Ashley that he can improve the club without spending much money (which Ashley will love). So Joe sits back and watches a large number of signings be made in the early days of the window, smug in his own self-confidence. Late in the window Kinnear brings in Bent for 5M and a backup RB nobody’s ever heard of (including Carr) for 500K. We enter the season and quickly drop into the bottom 6. Ashley is furious and demands answers. Kinnear shakes his head and tells Ashley this is what he feared most. Pardew is incompetent and Joe will have to step in immediately. Lo and behold we have Joe back as manager.

Comment #105Ashley will asset strip the club until he has recouped his investment. This means buying good promising or established players on a shoe string budget and selling them when the price is right.
Carroll and Ba were first and my guess is Cabaye, HBA, Santon, Tiote and Krull would have gone this year if they had performed and the season hadn’t back fired on us, dropping their potential resale values through the floor.
Not surprised he’s fuming and that there has been no further investment, other than to keep us up as his plan back fired, just as it did with the naming rights for SJP.
JFK has simply been in to get the players performing so that their resale value increases in-line with Ashleys business model. Make no mistake, he thought he’d make some quick sales and recoup his investment and didn’t count on last seasons results and that must hurt.

Wow you just got totally handed and throw your toys out the pram!
Chill out, the whole argument is pathetic, 1st season, 8th season, 20th season it does not matter! Your argument is basing a manager is as good as his first PL season? You are not willing to accept like Pardew he may have 1 good season followed by one poor one, and EL won’t help!
I also do not think the Swansea style has changed much, its very much the same as Rogers first season in PL.
If we got Laudrup tomorrow we would not play the style Swansea do within months, possibly even a year of the take over! It takes time!
Di Canio proved this, he stated it would take beyond the remainder of season and possibly next to change Sunderland style of play to
Suit his own!
But no you of course of mastermind that you are can Football manager it and change eveything in a day!

Comment #114Asset stripping is going to be difficult when Ashley is an idiot as far as football is concerned PM @105. Very clever in sports tat, abysmal in football. Hiring Kinnear to restore the club so that he can strip its assets? This should be hilarious. Keeping the same manager and coaching staff who finished 16th is very clever as well. A genius businessman (self-made billionaire) but moron as a football owner. Only we could get so lucky.

Comment #118What is worrying for me is that there is zero planning.
I do believe we will bring players in, but as the window strolls on the quality dwindles down of what is available.
The last thing we need is more people who do not speak English. We are already bedding in five players in that respect.
Questions have to be asked why we continue to drag our feet unless it fits Mike’s agenda of staying up.
We are being ran poorly with everything connected to the footballing side of the club. There is no escaping that fact. We could be better, so why are we not improving it?
I’v got respect for the financial footing we are in, but only suited Mike Ashley’s agenda so that he did not have to fund the club year after year.
What is the point of having Carr and Joe Kinnear if you are not going to maximise their potential with backing and money. This squad has been inadequate for along time now and found wanting on many occasions. Should it really take five years to build a squad that is suitable for this league? Why is the work and planning that should of been since January not coming into effect at the first opportunity.
The Kone bid showed a lack of planning.
The question is simple.
Do we have a plan?
It does not look like it, so people are concerned.
What on earth was that Kone bid?

You started by saying Swansea’s style isn’t Laudrups that itself is laughable and proves you know tosh about football.
Then you state Pardews first full season in the prem he finished 5th another load of drivel
We have some very good technical players who I’m sure would adapt to a Laudrup style very quickly.
