The Daily Mirror is reporting that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is willing to play £6M plus Steven Taylor to get Loic Remy to Newcastle from QPR.
Steven Taylor – part exchange for Loic Remy?
That’s the report and we simply don’t believe it.
For one thing, Loic Remy will cost at most £8M, and probably less, and that;s stated in the release clause in his QPR contract, which he signed in January.
There was a similar report this morning, but it will just not happen, because why would we let arguably our second best center-back leave the club this summer, when defense was our Achilles heel last season?
What we could do is send Mike Williamson the other way, and Mike’s probably worth around £2M, but Steven is worth a lot more than that.
The news is that Remy would be willing to join Newcastle, but why on earth would Steven Taylor want to leave his home town club for a small Championship club, after he’s been brought up on Tyneside?
The Mirror is reporting that this deal will go through, and that Alan Pardew has told Steven he’s not guaranteed a first team place next season.
We’d be absolutely shocked if this deal goes through.
What do you think?

Comment #3I wouldnt want Taarabt to be honest, would rather Nedum Onuha as defensive cover.
But a straight swap should be more realistic right?

Beattie I’m glad you’re on here tonight.
I don’t post much but read every day. I remember you posting a couple of weeks back with what you had heard from a mates dad (or something) who works at the club about the whole JFK situation.
I have to say it made sense then and what pardew is saying here pretty much confirms what you heard.
Lets see eh?

Comment #5Oh and no way the club value Taylor at 2 million.
When I first read the headline I did wonder which club the 6million was going to.

Indeed. I don’t try to be an ITK but passed it on regardless and now I’m thinking the lad I heard it from might be correct.
Lets see what happens. I still think he is deluded but he is convinced we will make some major positive changes and that having a football man instead of a business man will lead to a few big signings.
I think it’s balls.

Comment #7I think the offer could be £6 million or Stevie Taylor.

Comment #8Im warming to the idea of having Remy here.
He could be a bit of a gamble personality wise but I really don’t know anyone else of his calibre who we could realistically bring in?

Said it earlier and I’ll say it again, don’t always agree with pardew but this interview is spot on and I think it’s a bit of a warning shot to MA and JFK

Comment #10Hmm this seems a very good swap.We have Williamson,Coloccini,Tomkin(hopefully),Good,Streete etc etc
We have enough CB cover.Saylor could be 4th choice next season if we bring in the talented Tomkin.

Nobody of his caliber and at the price he’s available at too.
Tottenham bid £18 million for him 18 months ago and now he’s available at £6 million.
Sod the loyalty issue, ignore the past and sign the guy up for his qualities and his qualities alone.
Innocent until proven guilty and a clause could be inserted just in case.

Comment #12Even if Taylor was valued at 2mil and he wasn’t guaranteed a start, it would be stupid to sell him. Colo will leave next season which will leave us short on experience yet again, but we are sharp losing all of our ‘homegrown’ players.
If this clear-out is expected to see Shola and Willo leave, I would assume we would have to see a few English players enter in this window. Something I can’t see happening due to the extortionate price of half-decent young English players.

Comment #13It’s all a bit dodgy though isn’t it? Why would we even involve Taylor and not just pay up his release clause. This is causing me to think it’s all a bit off and wide of the mark.
If Taylor goes we will back to having 3 CB’S aswell and Williamson isn’t exactly the quality I would want to come in if we suffered injuries.

Sounds like a good idea, replace a Geordie who loves gives his all for the team and has quality for a foreign convicted rapist who turned us down for an extra buck.
Lets sell 50% of the club to joe kinnear for a 10p mix up

Comment #20Maybe its gameiro and Sakho + cash for Cabaye so they see it as a chance to cash in on a very injury prone player when they can (no point keeping him as 4th choice when he more likely be injured)
QPR might be willing to do a straight swap
Transfer window of Sakho, Gameiro and Remy and money to boot would be right up Ashleys street, Bring in Bent as 4th choice/sholas replacement then spend the cabaye cash on a new mid (who we wont sign untilJanuary after Sissokho and tiote are out injured)

Comment #22Can we not afford £6m? Remy would be a quality addition for the money but I would be sorry to see Taylor go, he put in some great performances last season, especially in the Europa league.
We need a bigger squad, one in one out isn’t the way to go.

Comment #31Remy, no thanks. Not cause he chose QPR over us but rather the rape charges. Even if he signs with a clause, what happens if he is found guilty? We may get our money back but were without another striker and I don’t trust MA to buy 2 this window.

Comment #34you know what ??? 6m plus tay for remi is that shocking it could happen . we are nufc fans- we dont live in the real world when it comes to football. nufc dont shock me anymore ,giving away a quality defender- a scrapper- the only player to bleed black and white, for a player who would leave us at the drop of a hat for some extra pocket money, and, if found guilty will not be playing football for a few years at least . but never mind eh – our defense is that good we dont need the likes of taylor around . if this ridiculous deal does go through then pardew better have a cunning plan , somehow , i dont think he has – even he is not that stupid -is he.?

If you take away the rape situation, and have better defender and more importantly less injury-prone incoming player and it was straight swap and no fee involved. Then it would probably improve the team and give us more entertaining footie.
If STaylor would be offered a better deal elsewhere he would be off in a heartbeat as well.
