Reports Newcastle To Offer £6M Plus Steven Taylor For Remy

11:28 pm, Monday, July 8th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 120 Comments

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is willing to play £6M plus Steven Taylor to get Loic Remy to Newcastle from QPR.

steven taylor - yes

Steven Taylor – part exchange for Loic Remy?

That’s the report and we simply don’t believe it.

For one thing, Loic Remy will cost at most £8M, and probably less, and that;s stated in the release clause in his QPR contract, which he signed in January.

There was a similar report this morning, but it will just not happen, because why would we let arguably our second best center-back leave the club this summer, when defense was our Achilles heel last season?

What we could do is send Mike Williamson the other way, and Mike’s probably worth around £2M, but Steven is worth a lot more than that.

The news is that Remy would be willing to join Newcastle, but why on earth would Steven Taylor want to leave his home town club for a small Championship club, after he’s been brought up on Tyneside?

The Mirror is reporting that this deal will go through, and that Alan Pardew has told Steven he’s not guaranteed a first team place next season.

We’d be absolutely shocked if this deal goes through.

What do you think?

As I wrote earlier, throw Taarabt into that and you have a deal.

  • 2 Unbelievable Tekkers // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:31 PM

This article is garbage theres no way we would give 6 mil AND taylor.

  • 3 Ben3arfa // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:32 PM

I wouldnt want Taarabt to be honest, would rather Nedum Onuha as defensive cover.

But a straight swap should be more realistic right?

  • 4 Harley // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:34 PM

    From last story.

Beattie I’m glad you’re on here tonight.

I don’t post much but read every day. I remember you posting a couple of weeks back with what you had heard from a mates dad (or something) who works at the club about the whole JFK situation.

I have to say it made sense then and what pardew is saying here pretty much confirms what you heard.

    Lets see eh?

  • 5 Harley // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:36 PM

Oh and no way the club value Taylor at 2 million.
When I first read the headline I did wonder which club the 6million was going to.

  • 6 Beattie25 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:37 PM

Indeed. I don’t try to be an ITK but passed it on regardless and now I’m thinking the lad I heard it from might be correct.

Lets see what happens. I still think he is deluded but he is convinced we will make some major positive changes and that having a football man instead of a business man will lead to a few big signings.

    I think it’s balls.

  • 7 Beattie25 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:38 PM

I think the offer could be £6 million or Stevie Taylor.

    Anyone for Taarabt?

  • 8 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:39 PM

Im warming to the idea of having Remy here.

He could be a bit of a gamble personality wise but I really don’t know anyone else of his calibre who we could realistically bring in?

  • 9 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Remy we need, tayls will be easily replaced….

Said it earlier and I’ll say it again, don’t always agree with pardew but this interview is spot on and I think it’s a bit of a warning shot to MA and JFK

  • 10 jeff // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Hmm this seems a very good swap.We have Williamson,Coloccini,Tomkin(hopefully),Good,Streete etc etc

We have enough CB cover.Saylor could be 4th choice next season if we bring in the talented Tomkin.

  • 11 Beattie25 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:44 PM

Nobody of his caliber and at the price he’s available at too.

Tottenham bid £18 million for him 18 months ago and now he’s available at £6 million.

Sod the loyalty issue, ignore the past and sign the guy up for his qualities and his qualities alone.

Innocent until proven guilty and a clause could be inserted just in case.

  • 12 PoolieToon // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:48 PM

Even if Taylor was valued at 2mil and he wasn’t guaranteed a start, it would be stupid to sell him. Colo will leave next season which will leave us short on experience yet again, but we are sharp losing all of our ‘homegrown’ players.

If this clear-out is expected to see Shola and Willo leave, I would assume we would have to see a few English players enter in this window. Something I can’t see happening due to the extortionate price of half-decent young English players.

  • 13 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:52 PM

It’s all a bit dodgy though isn’t it? Why would we even involve Taylor and not just pay up his release clause. This is causing me to think it’s all a bit off and wide of the mark.

If Taylor goes we will back to having 3 CB’S aswell and Williamson isn’t exactly the quality I would want to come in if we suffered injuries.

  • 14 NUFC_LEAZES END // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:52 PM

Sounds like a good idea, replace a Geordie who loves gives his all for the team and has quality for a foreign convicted rapist who turned us down for an extra buck.

Lets sell 50% of the club to joe kinnear for a 10p mix up

  • 15 Beattie25 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:52 PM

We don’t need English players just home grown ones of which there are plenty.

    Convicted rapist?

    You absoloute goon

  • 20 bignes // Jul 9, 2013 at 12:01 AM

Maybe its gameiro and Sakho + cash for Cabaye so they see it as a chance to cash in on a very injury prone player when they can (no point keeping him as 4th choice when he more likely be injured)

QPR might be willing to do a straight swap

Transfer window of Sakho, Gameiro and Remy and money to boot would be right up Ashleys street, Bring in Bent as 4th choice/sholas replacement then spend the cabaye cash on a new mid (who we wont sign untilJanuary after Sissokho and tiote are out injured)

  • 21 NUFC_LEAZES END // Jul 9, 2013 at 12:03 AM

  • 22 9gauche9 // Jul 9, 2013 at 12:04 AM

Can we not afford £6m? Remy would be a quality addition for the money but I would be sorry to see Taylor go, he put in some great performances last season, especially in the Europa league.

We need a bigger squad, one in one out isn’t the way to go.

Remy, no thanks. Not cause he chose QPR over us but rather the rape charges. Even if he signs with a clause, what happens if he is found guilty? We may get our money back but were without another striker and I don’t trust MA to buy 2 this window.

  • 32 Sazzer // Jul 9, 2013 at 12:19 AM

you know what ??? 6m plus tay for remi is that shocking it could happen . we are nufc fans- we dont live in the real world when it comes to football. nufc dont shock me anymore ,giving away a quality defender- a scrapper- the only player to bleed black and white, for a player who would leave us at the drop of a hat for some extra pocket money, and, if found guilty will not be playing football for a few years at least . but never mind eh – our defense is that good we dont need the likes of taylor around . if this ridiculous deal does go through then pardew better have a cunning plan , somehow , i dont think he has – even he is not that stupid -is he.?

  • 35 jimmysmith // Jul 9, 2013 at 12:35 AM

If you take away the rape situation, and have better defender and more importantly less injury-prone incoming player and it was straight swap and no fee involved. Then it would probably improve the team and give us more entertaining footie.

If STaylor would be offered a better deal elsewhere he would be off in a heartbeat as well.

  • 39 stuart no9 // Jul 9, 2013 at 12:49 AM

Thats the best rumour iv heard to date! I know the daily star is hardly known for its hard hitting journalism but seriously? They are aware who our owner is right? The only man in the world who can squeeze blood from a stone?

Forget the fact hes English and therefore commands an extortionate asking price, even forget the fact that hes our 2nd/3rd choice centre half… you really think hes going to move away from his home town, his childhood club, family, friends and probably higher wages to go to a championship team? He would more than likely fight tooth n nail for his place instead.

  • 44 Sazzer // Jul 9, 2013 at 1:31 AM

I just meant if those conditions were met it would be good deal. The first thing might be dealt with if the have enough evidence he’s innocent already.
Like somebody said we might get Sakho from PSG and cash for Cabaye.
Then it’s the clause and fee that’s the problem.

    Simpson moved to QPR.

My point was that we probably would see the situation differently if those not condition or similar was met.

As it stands now it is as wierd as they come.

  • 45 SeanNufc87 // Jul 9, 2013 at 1:34 AM

Apparently any deal for remy would be a loan to buy deal, which would protect us should he be a rapist.

  • 46 ENNYOUEFFSEE // Jul 9, 2013 at 1:44 AM

Steve T eats drinks and sleeps Newcastle. Plsys for tje shirt and when not injured good enough to play for England. Why would we sell that. Nothing in this rumour.

  • 47 Sazzer // Jul 9, 2013 at 1:45 AM

They might work out, suprising to say the least, deal then. I always felt like Taylor have been untouchable but with JF**K in charge who knows.

  • 48 SeanNufc87 // Jul 9, 2013 at 1:49 AM

in that situation though it would have to be a loan of staylor for a loan of remy with a view to buy for 6 million, which imo is actually a great deal (assuming we get Taylor back) for both parties

  • 49 RossNUFC // Jul 9, 2013 at 1:57 AM

Ed, these reports of Taylor leaving were quickly declared untrue on SkySportsNews.

  • 50 Sazzer // Jul 9, 2013 at 2:03 AM

Yeah, probably. This might be a way to get around the release clause dilemma.

  • 51 Uncertain Toon // Jul 9, 2013 at 2:16 AM

Remy and Taylor straight swap sounds about right really. QPR reduce there wage bill and Taylor gets a pay rise, jobs a fish.
I think we should cut ties with Taylor, he’s a liability, grins like a child when he drops a bollock and worst of all sounds more like Pardew in every interview he gives!
We can then go after a top centre half or left back because Mbiwa can move to either position depending on which position gets filled. We can offer incoming defender 1st team footie without lying like a hairy egg, however Percy or JFK ay struggle when telling the truth. Haidara would be left back cover/competion. Debuchy could do with a young right back biting his heels as well.

  • 52 SeanNufc87 // Jul 9, 2013 at 2:30 AM

Dont think Taylor would get a pay rise, qpr are a championship side after all and considering remy is on 65k which they want off the wage bill and taylor is probably on about 40, cant see them offering him more.

  • 53 Uncertain Toon // Jul 9, 2013 at 3:13 AM

Sure i read Remy joined QPR on 80 grand a week. Was that not the reason he went there? My statement stands!

  • 54 nufcusa // Jul 9, 2013 at 3:27 AM

Steven Taylor is not a Geordie. He may of lives in newcastle but was not born in the region and is a man who plays on this far to much to cover the fact that he is a bang average player.

He is a back up at best and would not get a game in any of last seasons top 8. If that is where we aspire to be then he can not be a starting player.

Th swap deal for Remy is strange but sign Remy anyway. He is a stud player and would improve our team. Taylor is a back up at best.

Has it not been for his adopted Geordie status he would not be lauded by fans anywhere near as much. He would just be another Darren Peacock had he lived in London all his life.

That is not a knock on the lad and is just my opinion. I not pushing him out the door but to harp on like he is the next bobby Moore is laughable. Colo and mbiwa is a far better partnership.

  • 55 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jul 9, 2013 at 4:08 AM

@nufcusa – I would say growing up in Newcastle almost all his life qualifies him as a geordie!

Still really wary about any possible Remy deal because of the court case. Would be ok to get a deal sorted providing he is acquitted entirely. Even though I’m still a little unsure about him after he chose QPR over us- well, if we were actually in for him at all.

Can’t trust any story now. The club’s gotta sell those tickets!

  • 56 SeanNufc87 // Jul 9, 2013 at 4:22 AM

The lad was born in London but both his parents are geordies and they moved back to Newcastle when he was born. Tbh its not really the point, he bleeds black and white as much as us.

I could,nt give a monkey,s if he where he was born , this whole rumour if there is any truth in it leaves a dirty taste in the mouth !

And to even consider swapping him for a money grabbing git, whose reputation is in doubt with regards to a Rape case , is nothing short of scandalous ?

  • 58 Slank // Jul 9, 2013 at 6:07 AM

    Sean @ 56

    Well said.

It’s a players attitude that is important not where he was born.

If a player is local he may give a little bit extra but sometimes he may give a little less as he knows he is a local and that there will always be xenophobic elements in the crowd that will forgive him.

We might see some transfer activity in late August if it is not to late by then!

On the subject of transfers, it is the fringe players we need to ship out and upgrade not those who wiill be in and around the starting 11!

    Taylor to QPR for £2M?

Honestly, any fan who gives any credibility to that story must believe in fairies.

As if Ashley, who screwed LPool for £35M and has placed ‘silly prices’ on the likes of Cabaye and HBA would let Taylor go for £2M. Nonsense.

  • 64 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 9, 2013 at 6:48 AM

I know Taylor wears his heart on his sleeve for the TOON but in my eyes Taylor is a liability – gets to tight to opposition players and gets turned resulting in shirt pulling also uses his hands in the box to block the ball then rolls around as if being hit somewhere else – got caught out last year and is injury prone.

  • 65 stretchintoon // Jul 9, 2013 at 6:48 AM

do me a favour, this is being reported by the daily mirror, worst paper out there and even worse for sport.

  • 66 bills-son // Jul 9, 2013 at 6:51 AM

On Pardew saying the relationship between Ashley and Llambias had broken down – that is clearly true or he would never have said that about Ashley.

I bet it broke down because Ashley was peed off that Llambias screwed up last summer, the signings we did make Anita and Amaltifino were poor, he bolloxed up the Remy deal, signed five french players in Jan when Pardew wanted some Prem experience and agreed to the Wonga deal which has brought us a ton of bad publicity.

Ashley effectively side lining Llambias – who was supposed to be his close buddy – is yet another sign that Ashley isn’t the laid back could’nt give a fcuk mid table miser he is made out to be.

This is a guy who Pardew says never spoke to him for three months after we threw away a three goal against WBA two seasons ago thus failing to finish in the top ten and offered a million quid to the non playing staff if we won our last game this season.

I bet Ashlry was seething at the stick he received from fans and the press for Llambias’s mistakes and gave him plenty for it. I also bet that Pardew was given plenty as well at the end of season review and that Ashley has made it clear he isn’t accepting any sh1t this season.

I’m still confident Ashley will sanction some good signings this summer and that no top player will go unless a £25M offer is made.

  • 67 TorqToon // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:05 AM

When will people get their heads around Remy and his issues. The lad ISN’T a conevicted rapist, he ISN’T pending a court case, and he HASN’T been charged with anything!!

Whilst I think this story is rubbish, and I like Tayls as a person, I dont rate him as high as some do. People were crucifying Carroll saying, “we shouldn’t buy him just because he is a Geordie!!” – yet people say we shouldnt sell tayls for the same reason?!?!?!

Footballing ability is all that matters. Not the accent he speaks with or the country of his birth. There are better defenders out there. He is 3rd choice behind Colo and yanga.

£2mil is a ridiculous amount, and I don’t think he is going anywhere, but let’s not pretend he is a particularly amazing player. He is not.

    Sorry tayls!

  • 68 cestriasteve // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:14 AM

Great posts from bill son and torq as usual. Do swap deals actually happen anymore?

Yanga Mbiwa will be collos partner this season anyone else is in reserve. StevennTaylors physical condition worries me.

Beattie from previous thread Honda is a great player but he won’t come to us he is off to Milan.

  • 69 Perchinho Pricing Blunder // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:15 AM

@torq while a 2 million valuation of Taylor is low I couldn’t ever see any more than around 4-4.5 million offered for him. And for that I would sooner keep a passionate guy like him in the squad

  • 70 bills-son // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:16 AM

Torq – I agree, Taylor flatters to deceive.

Having said that – take out the first ten games from our 5th finish season – and we have one of the worst defensive records in the Prem even though we have had Krul, Colo, Taylor and Santon in there for most of the time + Willo of course.

Defence is a still a massive problem because we lack any real height, physical presence, pace and full backs who can defend. In addition we have a midfield that lacks pace and our only physical player Tiote was a shadow of himself last sea

My biggest concern this season is that no matter how good the forwards are that we will still ship goals if we dont sort the defence out. Santon and Debuchy might be good attacking players but a big proportion of goals come from moves out wide and they are both mediocre defenders at best.

I’ve said before imo the squad is unbalanced with some serious deficiencies.

  • 71 cestriasteve // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:20 AM

Bills son hit the nail on the head, those 2 need to be position aware when defending too mant times the centre halves got pulled out of position. Take the problem a bit further up the pitch too many players playing through the middle and no width.

  • 72 van-damn-bad-man // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:24 AM

I would be quite pleased if we signed Remy, but with his rape trial imminent, would it not be wise to wait and see if he will end up in jail?

Plus, I think this story has gone under the radar a bit. Would be good from what I have heard from the lads on here.

  • 73 jazzyp // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:25 AM

Good morning torq how are we mate.
I see toondanno has remy going to turkey now !!!
If there was to be any legs in the Taylor story to qpr,a straight swap would be a fair result all round but would leave us vulnerable at the back with only 2 purple cb.willo is championship at best and would emphasise more pressure on bringing in another top class cb.
Personally I would just pay the 6.5mill buy out clause and keep Taylor as a squad player

  • 74 bollance // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:26 AM

Doubt that saylor is going to QPR as he has aspirations to play for England but he is on £40k which is a lot to sit on the bench or physio room. But who in Prem can afford his wages?

  • 75 TorqToon // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:28 AM

    Bills / cestria –

This is why I hope for stability on our back line this season. It was so disrupted last season with injuries, colos issues etc. We need a set back 4 and we need to stick with it.

Consistancy is key. Not just from pardew etc, but from players too.

Is it right that pardew declared we are strengthening wide left and up top?!

    Siem and Remy please.

Or if cabaye is definitely off to psg, which is far from certain, menez to replace him, and sakho.

Surely that’s not too much to ask?!?! :-)

Or maybe I dreamt all this?! Who knows!! Ha

  • 77 bills-son // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:35 AM

Cestria – I’ve said repeatedly that Santon bombing upfield cutting in on his right foot, losing possession and leaving his full back position wide open to attack has caused us all sorts of problems. As you rightly say the central defenders get pulled out of position covering the flank and neither they nor the CM’s have the pace to cover the runners in the gaps that are left through the middle.

Watch the Sunderland and Liverpool games for classic examples at its worst but there were plenty of similar circumstancex all season.

If this isn’t sorted we will concede a sackful again this season.

  • 78 cestriasteve // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:37 AM

Torq, those signings would be amazing if pardew won’t to play both CM deep then surely Anita could do cabeye roll if he won’t s to play high then marveaux, however stil leaves or best player potentially Sissoko out of position.

Or midfield leaves me with sleepless nights so much potential Arghhhh

  • 79 sparky55 // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:37 AM

Saylor’s just a chest beating dullard who plays his heart out every weekend but lacks intelligence and guile and positional nouse.

Alan Hansen used to say “if you’re having to make a last ditch desperate tackle then you haven’t read the situation right and you haven’t done your job right”

Saylor is admired by many but only because he’s brave and committed but at the end of the day he’s a very average CB and the alleged 2 million valuation is not too far off the mark in my book. If we give him away to get Remy for 6 million then IMO that’s good business.

  • 80 ToonDanno // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:41 AM

Good morning all :D . Can’t beat bit of sunshine

  • 81 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:44 AM

Menez isn’t he a wide player?

I am sure that is where he plays for France; if Cabs is off then we need a different player in my book!

I am confident in our backline as long as Willo gets upgraded and we find a backup for Debs.

The Ba replacement is a priority for me this transfer window and I think if we mean business then we should seriously think about upgranding the fringe players!

  • 82 Toon_Tom // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:45 AM

Danno – any news on the transfer front this morning?

  • 83 jazzyp // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:46 AM

Ooooopppps my apologies to toondanno if that is the case.
I slated the poor guy last night when I thought he had back tracked on the remy promise and said he was now going to turkey.
    Once again my apologies toondanno

  • 84 sparky55 // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:48 AM

we won’t miss cabs this year…IMO we have able replacements in the squad already but no doubt we’ll be looking to replace with someone like de jong…but if we don’t “manage to get a replacement over the line” then Anita can do the same job alongside Sissoko and that’d be a good partnership for sure

  • 85 TorqToon // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:51 AM

Jesp – menez is very fluid in his play. Can play out wide or down through the middle. Can pick the ball up deep, or sit further up as part of
a front 3. He IS a luxury player, but if they want cabaye badly enough, and menez doesn’t get much game time, world cup year etc, we could nab him!

Danno – is that YOU? Or are you really DUNNO?!?! ;-)

Ignore the grief mate – I look forward to your updates in the hope you will spy Remy at the club.

Appreciate you can’t say too much, but what is your link with the club?! You’ve always just stated that it’s a job many of us would love to have?!

  • 86 TorqToon // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:52 AM

    Jazzyp OUT !!!!!!!! ;-)

Happens to us all mate! This place does things to a man!

  • 87 Rotonda heights // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:53 AM

Massive respect for Pardew if this is true

Gives us the pacey goalscorer who can play wide left in a front 3 where Ba refused to and gets rid of an injury and error prone, chest thumping plastic geordie who only previously stayed for bigger wages.

    Bring it on Pardew

  • 88 SeanNufc87 // Jul 9, 2013 at 7:54 AM

Iv not seen enough of Anita in his midfield role to say he can fill cabayes boots like. Sure he had a few good games but hes had just as many average to poor games too. Im not saying he cant, im just saying id rather see more of him in that role before I say yes he can fulfill cabayes role.

  • 89 jazzyp // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:05 AM

Re Menez and sackho-hazzy1 mentioned one night last week he had heard a similar rumour on a swap deal with cabs and the above 2 mentioned.
Or did I read that wrong as well lol !!!!!

  • 90 yo-yo // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:10 AM

    Bills @ 70 + 77

Well put – our defence is the root of all our problems and the ten game run was how it should be for 38 games – and as for conceding 6 at home to an average Fool side….
    Santon’s role needs rethinking too.

Taylor does flatter to deceive and I’d want more than £2m but QPR lost Samba and are a Champ sided so he’d do well there and given his injury record a better league fior him.

  • 91 cestriasteve // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:10 AM

Bills son yes I was going to mention the Liverpool game leading to Debuchy frystrations and send off.

One further point on defence my only gripe about collo is he is not the strongest in his presence isn’t he only 77 kilos or something. He needs to get an Argy steak down him

  • 92 Ibizatoon // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:14 AM

Good morning from a sunny, but wreaking of stale beer San Antonio….yummy.

How’s things? I see we’ve been busy, not sure which of our new signings to get on my shirt this year… :)

Still remain hopeful. Whilst not a conventional way of dealing with things and potentially a recipe for complete disaster with the various egos at play (MA, AP & JK), it could provide a needed shake up. Pardews words sound promising, but I am aware talk is easy. It would seem, as discussed on here by some last season, that maybe the annoying ramblings were that of a man who had been let down after over-achieving the season before and who was under intense pressure after a naive approach and the most injury struck team, with a team that was already lacking quality in depth.

As always, I say give them time. My real biggest concern is keeping Joes mouth shut.

Still 55 days left of the window, hope there haven’t been too many mental breakdowns or ITK huntings.

  • 93 brklyngeordie // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:15 AM

this swap talk we got going going on got me thinking Taylor+Obertan+Williamson+5mill for Remy+Taarabt I’d do it..
And if we could do Cabaye for Gameiro+Sakho +10 mill or Gameiro+Menez +mill either of these combined could be excellent for club imo and open up some spots for youth…
Would make our forwards and wingers incredibly improved (or backline depending on Sakho or Menez) with what i believe is a very good rotation at back if they get it right with a team like that including the pieces that would remain and i didnt mention i believe could have many posssibilities

  • 94 brklyngeordie // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:16 AM

    cabaye for gameiro+menez for 15mill i meant^^ sorry

  • 95 Bambams // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:19 AM

I dont think our defence is that bad, I know we conceded a lot of goals but even the best defenders in the world would concede in our team when during 90 mins the back four see more of the ball than our midfield and attack. Offence best defence !

Take it to the opposition more and attack them, they cant score against us when we are in THEIR box !

    Taylor and 6 million. … Never !

  • 96 jazzyp // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:19 AM

I see pardew has come out and admitted Newcastle have genuine interest in Darren bent plus 4 or 5 more targets.
I think we are all desperately craving that first big signing of the summer.
    Remy-de Jong-sackho-Menez-gamerio?????.
    We can all dream boys

Not sure though about your post of a mates news and your subsequent
suggestion of it being balls! Smacks of you covering yourself and being right even when your wrong. Not your brave new world-LOL.
I personally think you’ll be confounded by our signings. But what do I know!

  • 99 sparky55 // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:22 AM

sell/swap taylor and buy Vermaelen to replace him…at 6 million Vermaelen’s cheap

You always seem to appear just as I am bailing out. Enjoy.

  • 102 welsh // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:25 AM

We really need a forward, so Remy would be a great buy & Taylor is easily replaceable ! Make it happen !

  • 103 Ibizatoon // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:26 AM

Ian…I hope you realise what you have just opened the door to? :)

Hope all is well and maybe we’ll be on at the same time again soon and you never know, we may have some actual news to discuss.

    Synergystically yours,

    Ian Toon…I mean Ibizatoon…

  • 104 Mister Tuff // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:27 AM

The “problem” in football terms with having an interest in Remy -is that due to his unknown future status (criminal allegations) -that he could not therefore be our sole interest in a striker. We would have to have another striker signed up -just in case he ends up in Wormwood Scrubs.

  • 105 welsh // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:27 AM

Taylor is also an irrational confidence guy, thinks he so much better !

  • 106 cyprus // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:28 AM

I see Saylor as a sub in any case. Those 68 goals came in his first full season. The Debuchy, Colo, Mbiwa, Haidara (Santon LW!) foursome is better than we’ve had for a long-long time. Good and Williamson are ok subs too.

I know most people would want Remy, but his snubbing us plus his legal issues make him a No for me.

Finally, a vote of confidence from AP! :)

“Joe’s experience of what he’s had as a manager, Mike feels that he probably knows the scene slightly better than Derek Llambias.”

  • 107 Ibizatoon // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:31 AM

Tuff…I am a big believer in innocent until proven guilty, however it would be foolish with such pending allegations not to have a plan B in place.

What is it about our club and the need for a plan B that makes me break out in a cold sweat?

From the looks of things, they are starting a bit of a clear out, which is great aslong as they then replace. We ended the season needing some more quality in depth, wouldn’t like the idea of starting with less depth…even if with more quality. Mind, I suppose under the laws of averages we must be due an injury free season and we know Mikey likes a good old gamble on the laws of averages :)

  • 108 Jamiemac // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:33 AM

Cracking post from bills @ 67

  • 109 cyprus // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:39 AM

Sorry Jamiemac, I like Bills posts but disagree with @66.
Poor signing in Anita? And DL selected Anita in any case? Hmm.
AP was upset that DL signed 5 (that’s FIVE) great players in a January window, because they were French? Hmm.

  • 110 TorqToon // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:42 AM

Jazzy – I didn’t see hazzys post. But would seemingly make more sense than buying 2 strikers as with the added creativity of Siem De jong / Menez, and with Remy and cisse, HBA, marv, sissoko and Cabaye (if still with us) it’s a heck of a midfield and a very good striker pool.

But it’s all talk at the mo. Beats discussing how MA is making money on us, wonga are the devil incarnate and JK has vascular dementia.

And let’s try simply ignoring Jayk lads! Clearly a makem and after as much attention as he can get. BOB, ALF etc have all been, and gone! Do we not learn?! :-)

  • 111 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:44 AM

So who let Ibiza out? ;)

  • 112 Jamiemac // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:46 AM

Sorry yeah I meant 66 not 67. Not cracking in the sense it was true, I just think it’s a very good and plausible theory.

  • 113 Ibizatoon // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:48 AM

    Woof? :)

  • 114 cyprus // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:48 AM

I am less interested in the DL/MA relationship (it’s done) and more in the Carr/AP dynamics, which AP has not referred to. Was JK brought in to referee that one? I really don’t get that structure to be honest and it seems that DL did the honorable thing.
Anyway, who cares, as long as MA knows what he’s doing.

  • 115 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 9, 2013 at 8:53 AM

    Ibiza…how have you been?

I have no links with ‘toondunno’. Takes a lot if spare time and no life to even think of that let alone do it. Feel sorry them. Might get a life one day :)

  • 118 one Tony Green // Jul 9, 2013 at 9:07 AM

Hi Cyprus I know that Carr has become frustrated with Pardew and took it to Ashley and MA told Pardew he would go before Carr.

  • 119 Papiss_Myself // Jul 9, 2013 at 9:07 AM

I’m sitting on the fence with this one.

In one hand Taylor is brilliant, loyal and gives the team a real boost.

On the other hand he’s getting older, slower and is already injury prone. What will he be like this season????

I do t want to see him go and would prefer Williamson left but would Taylor be happy being 2nd choice centre back????

  • 120 one Tony Green // Jul 9, 2013 at 9:20 AM

Taylor is a big pudding. Some people on this site never cease to amaze me. Taylor is so slow and no way is he an England international. He has a huge heart but he is useless and the season we finished 5th it was Wilko and Colo together not Taylor.
Remy has not been charged with anything at the moment so lets not pre judge.
