This Is How Joe Kinnear Can Help Me

11:03 am, Monday, July 8th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 101 Comments

We expected Alan Pardew to be mature and sensible about the changes at Newcastle, since Joe Kinnear arrived as Director of Football, to the sheer horror of most Newcastle fans.

joe kinnear

A recent photo of Joe Kinnear – he needs some sleep

And Joe didn’t disappoint (so to speak), by shaming himself and our club with that uncalled for interview on talkSPORT three weeks ago.

And in his interviews today Alan Pardew has come out in a positive way about the changes, and Alan has stressed what Joe Kinnear’s job is, and how it can work to build a better squad on Tyneside.

This is what Alan had to say on how Joe Kinnear can help him:

“It is very simple for me.” “If Joe can persuade Mike to invest in the right manner.” “Then that will be the best outcome for us.”

“As well as we’ve done in the transfer market, there is always room for improvement.” “I have spoken to Joe and had a couple of meetings with him.”

“I have told him what I think the weaknesses in the squad are.” “Let’s be fair it’s a squad not a side.” “And I have told him I need to strengthen and I have a couple of ideas.”

Good words from Alan, who  has stayed at the club, even though Joe’s appointment has left him with less power.

And we know a number of managers with bigger egos  who would have already resigned from Newcastle, after the way in which Joe was appointed – which was a complete shambles,  to put it mildly.

But Alan is still here, and he seems more determined than ever to be successful this coming season.

And he needs to be successful too, otherwise his job will be under pressure come next May.

But Alan already knows that.

Comments welcome.

People of the NUFCBlog – You are a gullible bunch

You’re sat here arguing with “Jeff” a “13 year old boy from India” who seems to have a great aspect of the English language.

He is a troll – He says ridiculous things and you lot argue with him – Baines for 4m, Luke Shaw for 1m – McClean for 15m…

We’ve had them all on this blog over the last 5 years I’ve been reading – Jeff, Bob, Bill, Jim – That’s just the ones I can remember, The last three were Mackems.

    Stop feeding the troll

“Between myself, Lee and Joe we hope to get some transfers over the line, and some out by the way, because the squad is a little thick in some areas.” repost from ed
there it is over the line crap.by the wayit’s not the squad thats a little thick

Ha, no worries mate. An exciting story! I didn’t realise Streete is still so young. Good stuff.

    Toonfan8

R Tayor is injured for another 11-12 months; Abeid and Amalfitano are on their way out (I think). If Colo or Saylor get injured then Myp is the only real long-term option. Willo isn’t good enough for a run of games and I doubt Good is ready for regular PL starts either. I think we definitely need a CB.

As for wingers, Obers is awful and should be sold and Sammy A isn’t consistently good enough. That leaves HBA, who is better in the number 10 role, Fergy (if we don’t loan him), Guti and Goffran. Campbell isn’t a winger. We definitely need wingers.

Oh, and Marveaux or course but as you listed him as an attacking MF and he is injury prone I don’t think this changes things too much.

    Good day gents!!!

    Have we signed anybody yet?!??

    I’m getting impatient! :-)

  • 6 martoon // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:11 AM

In an interview I heard this morning on BBC Newcastle Pardew said that JFK was effectively a replacement for DL. I don’t quite understand how that can work because DL was the Managing Director with a financial background whereas JFK is Director of football with a football background (supposedly). Surely they are completely different jobs – however I can see the sense of having a direct link to MA via JFK – time will tell if it works.

    ashley signs kinnears bar bill

  • 8 John Tudor // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:16 AM

and if krul is not fit or breaks down and something happens to elliot (injury or red card) we got a kid for a few games get shay in ffs

  • 9 croftus5678 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:17 AM

raylor could well be heading for the door imo far too injury prone and no place at rb for him now as deb’s/santon/mbiwa/anita/tav all fight for that spot also when deb’s is injured.

remy streete imo is our best young cb as i think we have hyped good up far too much imo (good could become a decent prem cb but i dont think he will ever stand out) remy seems to have that something special !

and i would really like marv played as an off striker and encouraged to shoot as i think he could be our suarez but i would not play him in midfield personally as when he doesnt have the ball he doesnt care.

  • 10 Black and White with an army lol // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:17 AM

i think we should get Corchia for RB, cracking young player and has bags of potential and could easily challenge Debuchy for the role for RB

  • 11 Toonfan8 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:17 AM

    Rowan Milsted
ideally I want to cover every position with two great players, but we have to tell how it is, we arent MU or Man city, chelsea…we have only premier league next year and maybe 5,6 cup matches, so to have two very good cb out of side when everybody is fit will be luxury, rather spent on two wingers than another cb…and for raylor, tavernier could be rb also raylor, mym, anita…so we dont need rb cover…two wingers sinclair, ince, wijnaldum and one striker bent, gameiro and we are massively improve

    debuchy,mym,colo,santon
    —cabaye,tiote,sissoko
    HBA—ciss—-sinclair

    strong bench with saylor,haidara,anita,marveaux,ince,bent,jonas,vuckic,williamson,ferguson,bigirimana,ameobi

  • 12 Rowan Milsted // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:20 AM

    toonfan8

    (from last thread)

Yeah we have to be realistic and you make a good point that 3 players will improve us massively. I agree, but I don’t think it will be enough. I’m with you in that we need 2 wingers and a striker and I know it’s asking a lot but I feel we need CB cover as well (unless Strete is ready to come through to the first team).

So, basically, you have changed my opinion slightly but I think 3 players is cutting it a little fine if we really are shipping several out. I’m just sick to death of seeing such a thin squad. It’s really held us back. Obviously there is not EL this season but with the amount of injuries we get, coupled with the fact that Fergy might go out on loan and players like Campbell, Streete etc might not cut the mustard, I think it would be wise to buy ample players now and not have to worry about it in January.

  • 13 ash // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:20 AM

WOOOWWWW finally some good news, Apparently Scott Sinclair to newcastle is going to be happening very good source, mate works for sky sports as an up and coming presenter plays for my sunday league side, 4 Million lets hope we get it over the line

  • 14 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:20 AM

Torq…you need to wait until Joke Kinnear is back from his holiday in the Sardiania and then it’s Charnley’s turn to to on holiday :)

…we will be back to speed in late August or early September lol

  • 15 croftus5678 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:21 AM

    @8 john

personally i’m fine with alnwick being 3rd choice as think he’s ready for the step up and he’s 20yo now he should be knocking on that door.

  • 16 Rowan Milsted // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:22 AM

Ha, that team does look nice though! Bench isn’t amazing but is very realistic for where we’re at currently. Let’s hope Sinclair comes through then… that would be grand.

  • 17 Toonabroad // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:22 AM

Sinclair to Newcastle looks set apparently, I hope so he is a great player imo however I hope that doesn’t mean that Marvaux will be shipped out he is a player we need to keep!

  • 18 martoon // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:22 AM

ash @13 – You don’t need a mate who works at Sky Sports – just look on their tranfer rumours page and betting odds.

  • 23 Belfast // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:29 AM

Never take any notice of betting odds.
Takes very little money for them to slash the odds.

He’s the exact type of player we need though.

  • 24 Toonfan8 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:30 AM

    Rowan Milsted
yes i agree we have thin squad, but how many times we used players like gossling, ameobi and others…only one who was used is perch, simpson in europa leaugue because Debuchy couldnt play there…so only deadwood is going out and three players sinclair, bent, ince will improve us massively plus they are all english

  • 25 richyg01 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:31 AM

Any actual story behind Sinclair, or is it just based on the odds being slashed??

  • 26 Belfast // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:33 AM

I believe what Pardew meant was that Joe will look after that side of Llambias’ old job that was to do with football.

Another as yet unnamed and possibly not yet appointed person will handle the other side which is managing the non football / team side of the club and possibly the financial things although I’m sure the club have a Financial Director for that purpose.

    @52,

He made a bad choice to go there IMO, some of these young players think that they will get their big break joining a big club, truth is foreign names come in and the young lads are cast into the shadows.

  • 57 Goodfella // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:53 AM

  • 59 martoon // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:55 AM

John – good to see we’ve kissed and made up ;)
I understand your doubts about JFK but I am prepared to give him this tranfer window to prove himself – we don’t have any choice really only MA does. One thing you have to say is that he did say he would clear out some of the lesser players and he is certainly doing that with Perch & Gosling etc. now if only he can deliver on incoming players?

  • 60 ~ Phoenix Warrior Perch~ // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:56 AM

I’d rather we go after Abonglahor then bent. We don’t need another bench warmer

Think everybody apart from Sinclair new that move wouldn’t work out lol

Like Adam Jonhson left City because he couldn’t get a game, and Sinclair was his replacement.

  • 65 richyg01 // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:59 AM

    @60

Bent and Cisse would be a great partnership.

How do you figure he would be a bench warmer?

MA wont spend £6M on a regular starter, so he wont pay it for someone to sit on the bench.

  • 66 John Tudor // Jul 8, 2013 at 11:59 AM

but the players clearing out are not the ones some would retain there are more pressing removals than abeid etc

  • 67 NUFCarter // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:03 PM

Cant see zaha getting many games at United either.

  • 68 NUFCarter // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:07 PM

I see its very likely that ferguson will be off to birmingham not sure if hes getting loaned or its a purchase and gosling looks to be off to Palace. This is when now that we are starting to get rid of some deadwood we start to buy a few purples or at least better replacement! Thats what you would think

  • 69 John Tudor // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:11 PM

we all know pardew’s favourites won’t go. these removal of abeid ferguson etcnone of which were given good long runouts when his favs were sh1t,this could be to the detriment of the club

  • 70 Transfer Sage // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:13 PM

I’d be very tempted to get Sinclair. City paid 5mil but never played him so his value should only go down…they won’t want to keep a player on the wage bill when they can use that money for somebody else.

He’s not a world beater but a big improvement on the left sided wingers we currently have at the club.

  • 71 Transfer Sage // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:15 PM

    John

I don’t see abeid as a loss, I’d like to see fergie loaned though, give him a full year somewhere.

Abeid doesn’t even look like he puts in effort when he plays for us…but we have plenty like that at the club.

Too many players who are technically good on paper but don’t produce on the pitch. Sure the manager carries the can for negative play but the players really don’t help themselves by being sloppy on everything they do.

  • 72 John Tudor // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:17 PM

that maybe so but i wouldnt call them deadwood i would reserve the right to call pardews faves that tho and we all know there names

  • 73 richyg01 // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:20 PM

SSN: Jozy Altidore has arrived at Sunderland’s training ground for a medical ahead of his proposed move to the Stadium of Light.

  • 74 Transfer Sage // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:25 PM

    John

I understand why a manager has favourites. Try to keep more senior players onside who have a big pull in the dressing room to keep the majority of the squad on side if things go wrong.

It might not be what’s best for the team but if everyone is pulling the same direction it keeps his job safer and the players might like him more and try harder etc etc.

Saw AVB try to ruffle a few feathers at Chelsea and they all turned on him an got him the sack.

The key is to pick the right battles and drop the big names when they underperform of when you have much better available.

I’m not sure pardew has confidence in the alternative players to the likes of shola, jonas and the others.

  • 75 John Tudor // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:27 PM

time will tell but if pardews pushed or jumps i know which players should have been kept

  • 76 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 8, 2013 at 12:27 PM

How I see it, there’s probably a smidgen of a chance we’re genuinely interested in Sinclair, my instinct tells me more stirring behind the media curtain, however, if it were true, he’d definitely enhance our squad. Crying out for more goals from all areas of the team and Scott Sinclair had about 1 in 3 from the wide left, with Swansea, so taking out Jonas for somebody who can add 10+ goals a season, would be a significant step.

Can’t believe some bloggers are comparing bent to shola, bent is a much better player, he’d score goals for us. Ideally as our 3rd choice striker though.

  • 88 pawl250 // Jul 8, 2013 at 1:03 PM

If we get Sinclair its a bonus, I hope he is not a prime target!

For me Remy and De Jong are the ones we need.

Sinclair would be a nice addition, and like Gouffran offer options. He can play wide, or central. He also takes a decent penalty. Look City didnt buy him for no reason, he was bought because he had a decent season as Swansea so he would be welcome in my team.

It would allow us to sell Shola and Obertan if we buy the 3 players.

    Out
    Shola 300k
    Obertan 1m
    Gosling 1m
    Perch 700k
    3m

    In
    Remy 10m
    De Jong 7m
    Sinclair 4m
    21m

    NET 18m

Its a massive improvement! AND realistic considering we were supposedly bidding 15m for PEA alone! Thats 3 players, decent offensive players which would leave the squad looking like this!

Fairplay to you if you think Mashley will have a net spend of 18M this summer, it would be great if we got those players in.

Rotonda- man, your 51-52 years old with your professional coaching
badges. Around the same age as Pardew why not contact Ashley and tell him how much better a job you would do! Your wasting your talents.

@Jail I’m sure St.Etienne confirmed we bid more than Dortmund for Pea so it may not be too unrealistic.

According to reports Pardew berated his players and staff for the failures of last season.
How can the man be so arrogant as to blame everybody but him
So does that mean his tactics were right, His plans B,C and D non existent when Plan A failed. Playing players out of position just to accomodate his PURPLE players like Jonas who should not have been in the team. Before anyone mentions his workrate ………
Going on the defensive even if we went 1 – 0 up early in the game.
No team in the French leagues plays hoofball so his “gameplan” must be totally alien to these players.
Same goes for Anita who was brought up to play the “AJAX” way.
I think Pardew will be found wanting yet again – pity he is not nearly as good as his talk.
Before any Pardew supporters come to his defence -NO- I have no time for the man.or his supposed football nous.

    Casmag

I used to think that but assuming this

Anita, Jonas can both play full back, if needed.

We have Mbiwa, Colo, STaylor and Williamson in centre, and I would like to see game time if needed go to Street beyond that. He is supposed to be a massive prospect.

We also already have versatile fullbacks, Debuchy Santon Haidara and Ryan Taylor. Push comes to shove, Ferguson and Tavernier.

You have to remember good players wont play back up. They will all want to play. The squad I mentioned would arguably work like this, or for me anyway!

    ———————- Krul ———————-
    Debuchy – Mbiwa – Coloccini – Santon
    ————- Sissoko – Cabaye ————–
Ben Arfa —— De Jong ———— Remy
    ——————– Cisse ———————–

Elliot, Haidara, STaylor, Anita, Tiote, Marveaux, Sinclair

I doubt likes of Jonas, Gouffran, RTaylor and even Williamson will be happy about that!

Of course this is all a dream!!

All managers in all walks of life have their favourites. Quite often in football it’s the player(s) they feel won’t let them down when push comes to shove. That’s why managers feel it’s not a good idea to blood the kids when the side is playing badly. Shane Ferguson played like a frightened rabbit caught in the headlamps of a car when he was introduced in PL games. Temperament is often as important as basic skill.

You’re under the common illusion that EVERYTHING is down to the manager. What sort of manager would Pardew be if he DIDN’T criticise the performances of his players for some of the atrocious performances of last season.

Don’t you think Pardew got enough stick from the fans anyway? Only fair the players get their part of the criticism too.

  • 97 Ian Toon // Jul 8, 2013 at 1:17 PM

Jonas played against QPR when many on here were screaming for him to be dropped. He was influential in us winning as I recall.

  • 98 HullMag6 // Jul 8, 2013 at 1:21 PM

Maybe the ex influenced the move to Manchester, if Sinclair did come I’m sure he’ll find a more than adequate naturally endowed replacement around quayside or if hes brave enough the market lol.

  • 99 Ian Toon // Jul 8, 2013 at 1:22 PM

Surely the players have to take some responsibility for under performing!!

  • 100 croftus5678 // Jul 8, 2013 at 3:14 PM

sinclair will give me something to look forward to if true !

12 goals a season for a winger “yes please” not to mention his assists and how many cisse can gain extra out of them !

compared to guti’s 1 goal and 1 assist (i think) only 24yo comes cheap with prem experiance i honestly dont think we could go wrong if we tried.

sign him please and get a striker in so at laest we have a hell of a lot better team than last year to take our minds off all the c*&p that is happening.

  • 101 croftus5678 // Jul 8, 2013 at 3:22 PM

    @97 ian

as an attacking winger he played very well in around 3 of our games last season !

as a defending winger he was good in another 10-15 but imo wingers should not be defending throughout the game and should be more attack minded !

keep the lad by all means for when we can not get a hold of the game so that we are hard to break down (for me he’s the next utility perch lb/rb/dm)
