The Daily Mirror is reporting that Holland Under-21 international goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet, will be signed by Newcastle United, and the deal has been struck with his Dutch club PSV.
Jeroen Zoet – 22 year-old goalkeeper
Zoet is at PSV and has spent the last two seasons out on loan at RKC_Waalwijk, where the 22 year-old played 73 times, although he has never played in the PSV first team.
The Tyneside clubs are said to be willing to pay out a fee of £2.5M fee for the 6’3″ goalkeeper.
It is though the 22-year-old will become the understudy to 25 year Dutchman Tim Krul, who signed at Newcastle when he was 17 back in 2005.
We had thought Newcastle were in good shape in the goalkeeping department, with Tim Krul the Dutch International and Newcastle’s number one for the last two seasons.
And Rob Elliot had his best season since he arrived at Newcastle, and the only question we had was whether Jak Alnwick was ready to be number three next season.
Presumably Zoet will fight it out with Elliot for who is the number two goalkeeper at the club, with Jak Alnwick likely to be sent out on loan.
Zoet started his career by joining his local club Veendam as a youngster, before signing at age 17 for PSV in 2008, and he has played for the Dutch U17 and U19 teams and 21 times for the Dutch U21 side.
This is,little bit of a strange signing, unless either Tim Krul or Rob Elliot will be sold, but we were first linked with Jeroen back in October..
