Newcastle Reported Close To First Signing – A Goalkeeper

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Holland Under-21 international goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet, will be signed by Newcastle United, and the deal has been struck with his Dutch club PSV.

Jeroen Zoet – 22 year-old goalkeeper

Zoet is at PSV and has spent the last two seasons out on loan at RKC_Waalwijk, where the 22 year-old played 73 times, although he has never played in the PSV first team.

The Tyneside clubs are said to be willing to pay out a fee of  £2.5M fee for the 6’3″ goalkeeper.

It is though the 22-year-old will become the understudy to 25 year Dutchman Tim Krul, who signed at Newcastle when he was 17 back in 2005.

We had thought Newcastle were in good shape in the goalkeeping department, with Tim Krul the Dutch International and Newcastle’s number one for the last two seasons.

And Rob Elliot had his best season since he arrived at Newcastle, and the only question we had was whether Jak Alnwick was ready to be number three next season.

Presumably Zoet will fight it out with Elliot for who is the number two goalkeeper at the club, with Jak Alnwick likely to be sent out on loan.

Zoet started his career by joining his local club Veendam as a youngster, before signing at age 17 for PSV in 2008, and he has played for the Dutch U17 and U19 teams and 21 times for the Dutch U21 side.

This is,little bit of a strange signing, unless either Tim Krul or Rob Elliot will be sold, but we were first linked with Jeroen back in October..

Watched HIM couple times, good reaction and reflexes. Also reaching 87 in 3 seasons on FIFA 13, not real but ve has huge potential.

If he is a young, quality keeper with potential it will mean one of two things –

Krul will up his game and act as a true mentor to this young chap

Or – Krul is out the door ;-p

You never know in the Geordie State Circus

I swear we were linked with him a couple of years ago. Possibly in a January window.

Just checked out a youtube video of him (we all know how that ended last time). Seems decent for a youngster and below the video there’s a load of mackems saying ‘Welcome to Sunderland AFC’ so would make it even better if we’ve snatched him from under their noses.

Dennis Wise scouting shows he has good reflexes and is a brave keeper.

Hard to tell how good is he though from youtube, goalkeeping is all about consistency and doing the basics right every time.

We have been linked to everyone Phatoon – I once came in contact with a pigeon with a little note strapped to his ankle with a personal note from KK to an unknown agent asking about the availability of the duke of Wellington – true story

Krul is staying, Zoet is coming to replace Harper. So basically number 2 also giving competition to Krul. So its a good addition.

What this actually tells me is either, elliot will be gone, or alnwick won’t be good enough.

Turkish – thanks for the insight ref. ramadan mate.

I have noticed Chris Hughton seems to be interested in a lot of players we’ve been linked with. So we’ve either been tracking these guys for years and he remembers them or there is a mole in the toon workin for Norwich!!!!

Just means Alnwick isnt good enough if true.

Harsh on Ellio if this guy becomes number 2 as he has done a respectable job, but Dutch U21 keeper, could become a star.

Krul is not away, not this season anyway!

Name a club that wants him?

    Chelsea have Cech
    Arsenal Szeschny
    Utd De Gea
    Liverpool Reina and Mignolet
    Spurs Lloris
    City Hart

I mean unless he is away abroad, Barca probably will go for Spanish, Reina seems the best bet. Madrid have Casillas.

Sorry but not right now, and he didn’t exactly set the world alight last season!

This guy, if true is no.2 or 3 depending if Elliot is ready to fight!

Remy and De Jong PLEASE! More important than GK!

Of course the other thing to consider how long is Krul out for? Hopefully ready for new season!

    @Uncertain Toon

NP mate, Graham Carr has a good relationship with Chris hughton. So he didnt want his scouting report to be done for no reason so might as well give it to a lovely man who knows how to negotiate and show ambition.

yeah agree alnwick out on loan , returning next season a better keeper but i’m thinking if Kruls star continues to rise he will be sold next season and the other three keepers will move up the ranks

Glad we signed this lad.Elliot not good enough in my view.Too many sloppy goals conceded and he cant kick.Krul needs pressure on him and he’s not getting that from Elliot.I for one am pleased with this signing,it’s a start.
