Pardew Admits Interest In Two Top Striker Targets

10:01 am, Tuesday, July 9th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 36 Comments

Alan Pardew today has admitted that both Darren Bent and Loic Remy are on Newcastle’s list of striker targets this summer.

Loic Remy

Loic Remy – on Newcastle’s list

And both strikers are expected to leave their clubs this summer, Bent because he is not wanted by Villa, and Remy because he doesn’t want to play in England’s second division.

That;s especially true for the 26 year-old Frenchman because the World Cup is next year in Brazil, and he wants to make the French World Cup squad.

This is what Pardew told the Northern Echo today:

“Both of those players are on our list. I make no bones about that.”

“But they are under contract at other clubs. It’s difficult, you have to be careful. It’s nice for our fans to hear names, but I don’t want to disrupt other clubs’ preparations.”

“We have a list of four or five strikers who will push Papiss Cisse, Shola Ameobi, Adam Campbell and Yoan Gouffran because that will be important next season.”

“We do need two strikers. Last year, I didn’t think there was enough competition in that area for a Premier League team.”

So Alan also admits for the first time that we need two strikers through the door this summer.

At the moment it seems it would cost Newcastle around £8M for Remy and about £6M for Bent, but obviously (as usual) Newcastle will attempt to being those fees down so they get good deals.

But if the club can get both strikers through the door this summer, we should be in very good shape next season to be able to score a few goals.

And it seems Newcastle are willing to forgive and forget Remy’s refusal to join Newcastle in January, when a deal seemed to be almost done – and of course since then the Frenchman was accused of rape in May, and that case still has to be heard in the courts.

And if two good strikers are brought in this summer, then Newcastle could also allow Shola Ameobi to leave the club to get more first team football elsewhere.

Ed can you put the entire interview into one post instead of feeding it to us one little bit at a time?

    Gets annoying….

    Raffo

For me De Jong, Remy would be enough to improve us considerably.

If we lose STaylor or any defender for that matter we need to replace them.

I am not sure M Richards, or Sakho are or ever will be realistic targets.

Bent and Sinclair I feel is smoke and mirrors.

I hope we sign Luuk and Siem, but would be shocked if we do.

Remy almost seems an obvious interest, but will it come off, I am not so sure.

Time will tell. Remember though, Luuk and Remy have been targets before and were picked for a reason last year.

It could be the same reason we are back in for them. Wouldn’t suprise me. I mean apparently we went for Cisse 2 times before actually signing him

Jeff — you know what? There is something more annoying… :)

I hope you don’t get put off posting your snippets of info Torq, don’t listen to any numpties, there in a very small minority and I for one know your a genuine fan who only wants to bring us any potential good news, keep it up.

  • 5 JackButler // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:10 AM

If we manage to get Remy I hope we leave Bent alone and move for a younger striker, Bent has had his best day’s and you gotta ask why he would be good enough for us when he couldn’t get into a poor Villa side

  • 6 peasngravy // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:11 AM

    Haway Toon Danno, any updates

  • 7 jeff // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:12 AM

Tsunki what sort of name is Tsunki?Sounds like something from a jap cartoon.

  • 8 ~ Phoenix Warrior Perch~ // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:12 AM

We only recently got rid of Xisco… We dont need another player of the same calibre in our squad… I.e. Bent.

  • 9 jimmysmith // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:13 AM

Surely better placed clubs than us will be in for Remy at 8 mill. I think our only real chance is if others are put off by the allegations against him and the club is prepared to pressure us to swallow OUR pride and also take a punt.

In a word yes then, considering the owners prior.

    Tsunki
    Lol!!

i dont think pards would come out in public and state his targets unless they was 80% done so i kind of expect remy/bent to be our first 2 signings now.

i really hope we go for sinclair now also unless he’s perm going for 4-3-3

    —————tiote—————
    —-cabaye——–sissoko—-
    arfa————————remy
    ————-cisse—————-

then you can change bent with cisse and anita/bigi with any midfielders (goofy/marv cover for arfa/remy

@5 – I would have Remy for deffo, assuming of course his alledged rape is dismissed. He hasn’t been charged yet, however, the investigation has gone on longer than most seem to when they are a false allegation. With regard to Bent, his best days are behind him, and can I point out that at Villa last season he wasn’t getting a game, not because he was overlooked, but because when he was on the field he had one of the poorest work-rates I have ever seen in any footballer in the Prem. Avoid.

“Joe’s job is to nail that all down and get the best possible solution that I want.”

Have you run that past Joe? Guys, guys, guys, i.e. AP, JK, Carr, you haven’t exactly figured this out have you

Mike, dude, can you sort this out man? Maybe bring in a fourth person to referee the previous three. Or fire them all and let’s start again.

  • 14 Tsunki // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:17 AM

Jeff – its a name you can’t figure out.

  • 15 pawl250 // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:17 AM

Bent has lost his yard of pace, meaning he is half the player he was. His anticipation though is first class.

Still I feel his better years are behind him, and we should go for a younger more viable player.

If Luuk De Jong was possible how much you reckon he is worth?

Surely cant be more than last season? He played nearly 40 games with 6-7 goals. Didn’t BM pay £20m for him?!

I remember we were attempting roughly £14-15m to bring him.

  • 16 JackButler // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:18 AM

Bent is an over paid journeyman, and if reports are to be believed we are in the process of clearing out our own dead wood so can see us signing other club’s cast’s off’s

  • 17 jeff // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:19 AM

Duh thats why i am asking u pathetic nitwit.Who do you think u are anyway?Ive been watching u on the blog for a while you are full of conceit and like to sit on ur pedastal.

  • 18 JackButler // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:19 AM

    *can’t*

  • 19 pbandj // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:21 AM

If we are going for Bent it better been on a pay as you play deal. He is not worth a dime over 30k a week until he shows he’s a top striker again

  • 20 Toon_Tom // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:22 AM

Jeff – Tsunki is the name for the primordial spirit shaman within the Shuar people and the Achuar people of Amazonia

  • 21 richyg01 // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:25 AM

I think the papers have the Remy deal mixed up.

There were reports yesterday that Redknapp wanted Saylor at QPR.

It makes more sense to me that the offer the papers are talking about is from QPR £6M + Remy for Saylor

  • 22 Sawbuck // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:25 AM

Hey thanks for that. You really do learn something new every day.

  • 23 richyg01 // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:26 AM

I think Bent and Cisse could forge a great partnership.

Bent is a proven PL goal scorer and that is what we need.

  • 24 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:26 AM

Maybe Bent is a smokescreen for getting Benteke.

AS in Kinnears vocabulary Bent and Benteke names looks similar

  • 25 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:27 AM

    Pawl
If played 40 games with only 7 goals then why would we be intrested? That’s a shocking ratio!!

  • 26 richyg01 // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:28 AM

Austin has failed his medical at Hull, did you guys see that?

  • 27 numba9 // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:28 AM

I wouldn’t particularly worry about bothering what saggy face redknapp thinks about disrupting his players he was demba bas agent near enough when he started flapping his gob off about Clauses, Remy would not be my choice I would rather someone like bony gomis style with bent and Sinclair

Cardiff City are closing in on the signing of Blackpool ace Tom Ince, Sky Sports understands. It is understood that Ince and his father Paul held talks with Cardiff on Monday about a move to the Premier League new boys.

  • 31 nufc 11 // Jul 9, 2013 at 10:59 AM

I dont particular rate Taylor as a CB always thought he was a better RB bt AP didnt think so, unfortunately for him that 6-0 loss to liverpool will live long in the memory for alot of people and he has to hold his hands up for that, he never really reached the heights he suppose to did he?, a bit conerned tho that the british steel is been ripped out of the team at a wim we need to get the british based numbers in the squad up a few well be a forgein team in PL if were not carful.

  • 32 supershola // Jul 9, 2013 at 11:38 AM

I really can’t see us getting another midfielder, haven’t we got enough? Tom Ince won’t be coming to newcastle. We’ll get a striker through the door, maybe 2 if Joe pulls his finger out

  • 33 James RS // Jul 9, 2013 at 12:15 PM

Personally Id like to see both these strikers (Remy and Bent) at St James Park; both quality strikers, even Bent who has just lost his way and Im sure Pardew can revitalise him having been on the bench a lot. Remy is class whatever you say… but now its out in the open who Newcastle are after on Skysports and people know both will now be snapped up by other clubs… guaranteed! when it comes to transfers Newcastle are too slow to catch cold …usually dithering over 1/2 mill here and 1/2 mill there duh!

  • 34 James RS // Jul 9, 2013 at 12:16 PM

…ooh and tell Redknapp theres not a lot of difference in ability between Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson apart from the price!

  • 35 JP...from The Rock // Jul 9, 2013 at 12:51 PM

The day Strolla Ameobi leaves I will get so drunk celebrating. This is the most pathetic excuse of a footballer since Heskey and Carl Cort!

  • 36 petchey22 // Jul 9, 2013 at 1:00 PM

I hope I’m not being stupid here but why are we offering QPR a swap deal with Saylor and money for Remy when he has a buy out clause? Supposedly no more than 2 million more than the money offered as well, considering Saylor is a solid, home grown player that we need.
