Newcastle Center-Back Target Not Available This Summer

4:19 pm, Wednesday, July 10th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 10 Comments

Kurt Zouma is one of the most promising young French players playing at the moment, and the 18 year-old 6’2″ France U20 International plays for St. Etienne.

And Kurt’s good play last season is one reason why St. Etienne finished in 4th place, and we are al;so of course helped by the goals from Newcastle target, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who just signed for German club Borussia Dortmund last week.

Having just sold their best player Saint-Etienne president Roland Romeyer is no mood to sell his young 18 year-old star defender, has told clubs hoping to sign Kurt Zouma to stop wasting their time for at least the next season, insisting the player is a key part of his plans.

Defender Zouma had been garnering a fair amount of interest from major clubs, at the same time as his former team-mate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who eventually moved to Borussia Dortmund.

Cardiff City and Wolfsburg were the most recent names linked to Zouma, who has played a total of 46 games for Saint-Etienne, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United also not far from the race, although Liverpool withdrew due to price concerns.

Aubameyang’s departure had prompted even more speculation around Zouma, even though the 18-year-old had already indicated he does not want a move away.

And Romeyer has said this to Eurosport today:

“Zouma will remain a part of Etienne.” “He is a part of the club’s framework. I repeat: one part of this club (Aubameyang) was released this year and now he’s gone.”

“We have big ambitions this season with the Europa League so Kurt will continue to grow and be in Saint-Etienne colors. Next summer we’ll see whether or not he should continue his growth elsewhere.”

Newcastle were linked last month with a double swoop for both Zouma and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for £25M in total, with £10M presumably being for the 18 year-old center-back.

But in late June his agent David Venditelli said it just wasn’t true:

“The €29M (£25M) offer mentioned in the press from Newcastle for Zouma and Aubameyang is completely false.”

That was a pity although it seems we bid more for Aubameyang than Borussia Dortmund did, but the player wanted to go to Borussia Dortmund, who after all are a top club in Germany and Europe.

Here’s some video of Zouma in action.

Maybe we can get this lad in next summer?

Let’s just have Menez and Gameiro for Cabaye, sign De Jong as Cabaye’s replacement, shed the deadwood (Obertan,Gosling, Willo) and crack on – easy-peasy!

I don’t know how many times I’ve said the same thing…

At least 3 of the players signed in January were lined up as summer transfers. There may not have been a huge outlay in terms of transfer fees, but the wages on those players are not small and the club has to pay for those too.

Just because we haven’t signed players yet, doesn’t mean that we won’t. There’s plenty of time left to go until the window closes and we know that Ashley drives a hard bargain on players. Once we start to overpay for players, every club knows that we’re a soft touch. As it is, they know that we’ll stick to our guns in negotiations. Best way to get the best deals for our club. I don’t want to go back to the dark old days of overpaying for average players.

    Afternoon chaps and chapettes.

So it would seem that Gosling is potentially on his way to palace which would another positive move in the sense that we’d be moving on more dead wood in the squad.

Now, sell willo and get moving on their requisite replacements and I’ll look forward to the mediocre dross that’ll inevitably be served up next season…

    Zouma is not a target

The only target is fulfilling Kinnear’s ego that scumbag
