We see that Newcastle are now the only Premier League club who have not signed a senior player this summer, but how many Premier League clubs brought in five top players in January? The answer is only one – Newcastle – and many PL clubs brought in no players during January.
Darren Bent – available for around £6M?
So we have to realize that two or three of the players we brought in during January were meant to be summer signings, if we hadn’t been in such dire trouble in the league.
Of course we still need to bring in some players this summer, and two strikers seem to be the priority, and news that Joe Kinnear will go into action to get Darren Bent and Loic Remy, when he returns from his oddly timed holiday and is back at work on Monday.
Manager Alan Pardew has kind of spilled the beans already, when he admitted that both Darren Bent and Loic Remy are Newcastle striker targets.
Loic Remy – Newcastle target
Newcastle fans are getting a little restless right now, and it would be good, very good, if Kinnear can have some success early next week, and get at least one of the two strikers through the door, or another striker we are not aware of at the moment.
What do you think?

Comment #81God Damnit Tudor where are you?
I didnt agree with a single opinion of yours but…
I enjoy your posts lacking punctuation of any kind that usually and thankfully for that reason dont go on too long but your stories of the old times and random dry humour is worth the price of admission for me

Just ignore them and don’t let them get to you. I personally enjoy the info you put out. Anyone with half a brain could figure out that nothing is definite.
If you hear anything on Dempsey let me know. Would love for him to come here…unfortunately he probably too old for MA’s policy.

Comment #85Mister Tuff has the procedures right, and I don’t think the CPA will make a decision immediately, given that it is a footballer, it will go to a senior prosecutor. They certainly have no reason to bring forward consideration of the case, just to meet transfer deadline day.
Therefore, I think Remy is a smokescreen. Given his release clause and QPRs need to offload their biggest wage earners, he could have been signed up by now, if he really is the number one target. Unless he is dragging his feet.
In all of the abuse he got over signing for QPR, there was a statement he made explaining his decision was:
– to live in London to keep his wife happy (ironic that one!)
– to play through the middle. The implication of that was that NUFC had told him Cisse would play in the middle and Remy would play left, like Ba last season.
Neither of those have changed, nor will we have offered more wages than he was offered in Jan.
So, all in all, however good he is, the club would be mad to seriously be considering him, and delay other forward signings in the hope that the rape case gets dropped soon.
Pardue said that they have a list of 4-5 players and two are Bent and Remy. He never said that they were top of the list, that was poor journalism in some reports. So I hope Pardue threw in Remy’s name as a red herring to distract from our real targets.

Comment #86Strong feeling next week is going to be our week and finally wrap up some players. Since Joe is back. Hopefully this is the case.
Not particularly happy about the players in question but they could well do a job for us.
Feel like we are picking players off the scrap heap a bit here but nevermind.
Surprise me with a winger.

Comment #87Torq – Yeah just ignore them. I never post on here but I always scan the comments to see if you have any news. Other people still have a lot more work to do to prove they are half as credible as you have been in the past.
Boredom has turned this post very negative over the past few weeks but try not to let it grind everyone down.
My betting is by the end of the window we will have 2-3 new first teamers. A few more in the development squad.
And a matchday squad were you aren’t fearing substitutions.

I for one enjoy reading your comments ,and don’t expect you to get everything right .
The papers demonstrate that to second guess football transfers is impossible.
Iam sure that some of your comments are driven by the hope that ,like any genuine fan we may get a new star over the line , please don’t stop it’s always good to dream .
Maybe people are just frustrated by the lack of progress, but I am confident that we will have two or three top additions
Bent will be a great add and will be out to prove everyone wrong a good season with the toon and he is on the plane to Brazil,I don’t see Remy but a couple of paces wide me and we are off to the Races
Torq please keep Torqing!!!

Comment #90Can anyone clarify whether Remy is actually being paid by QPR as my understanding of his contract, as reported in the press at the time, is that he could quit QPR if they got relegated?

Comment #91with signing 1 player in “remy” for example we can change the shape of the 1st team (not including injuries ofc) so that we imo can challenge the top 8-6
———–tiote————
—-cabaye—sissoko–
-arfa—————–remy
———–cisse————
but i’m still concerned if that happens we have no cover for cisse as i dont think cambell is ready and we would be stuck to that formation with not much choice of changing formations without another main striker and winger to go to 4-4-2.

Comment #95Two quality wingers look set to be snapped up by other PL clubs. Nacer Chadli of FC Twente would cost £8million tops and Evgen Konoplyanka of Dnipro in Ukraine, tore England a new one last year, would cost £10million. Both are young at 23 and would add so much quality but looks like Spurs and Fulham are going to get them.
Krul
Deb – Yanga – Colo – Santon
Sissoko – Cabs
Konoplyanka – HBA – Chadli
Cisse
That team at St James’s would be very exciting to watch and would rarely settle for the one nil!!

i hear the contract states a get out clause and if relegated they can not stand in his way of leaving if relegated but yes they will still be paying him and he could easily stay in champ’s for 1 year and take those wages.

Campbell will in my opinion be a star but needs game time .turnip has not got a good record with the kids ,young Campbell is the best for a long time ,I have watched him in the reserves and he has genuine pace ,he reminds you of Owen as a youngster
But he needs first team game time not 5 min here 10 mins there,I fear he will become frustrated and leave ,we will all watch a future England cf develop somewhere else and say ho did we miss him

Comment #103Remy is no LW, he s a ST a really good one imo, and a average RW. Still, he would be our best option. jimmysmith you know shit about football, mate, your comments about cisse made me laugh out loud. Good header ahahaha.

That doesn’t sound like such a good contract clause for QPR (but great for Remy) as he doesn’t need to be in any hurry to leave QPR to only be paid less. He can take his time in getting a new club.

Comment #105would rather have Sinclair than these two
Bents wages will be to high 40+k a week no way he should get that much i would say less than 30k and also 6-8 million for a striker who hasn’t done nowt for a season, no thanks, it’s a waste of money.
same goes for Remy his wages would be higher than Colo and Colo is on about 60+k a week also his contract clause is roughly 6-8 million and there’s a rape case over his head, no thanks, not worth the risk.
Sinclair is reported to be around the 4 million mark, young lad, loads of potential and hungry and English and his wages would be between 20-30k a week, yes please.

Comment #106according to reports nufc want to make Darren bent our first signing on Monday.
as stated before could end up doing a decent job for us now with the world cup looming but is definitely not one for the future. if they can start the ball rolling with bent-all well and good but I do not class this as a major coup or to take us to the next level.

Comment #107If bent signs next week, that’s not actually a bad start, he’ll score goals for us and gives Cisse much needed competition.
My worry would be, how many more signings would follow. I’m hoping for three 1st team additions this summer.

Comment #108Toon_Tom – To be honest I agree with you, but stranger things have happened. £10 million for Konoplyanka would be a steal as he can play anywhere up top and will cost double that in 2-3 years.

Comment #111The fun all starts this week for us…first thing we need to suss out is who wants to go…then we’ll go down Carr’s list for replacements, and at the same time add the 2/3 we’re all wishing for.
Pardew’s being saying ‘We don’t need to sell players” all week simply because he knows players want to go and that he’ll blame JFK for them leaving when in reality they want to go because of the brand of football Pardew plays bypassing the ‘quality on the ball’ players we have.
At the minute it’s all about sniping and back-stabbing and something has to break.
I have no idea who will win but either JFK or Pardew have to go within the next 2 weeks and I hope and pray it’s Pardew and then I hope and pray the new manager gets the players he wants and we get good replacements for the two other purples plus Cabs that will leave.
I honestly think at the end of the window we’ll be sitting pretty with a much improved squad, a new manager and a new owner.
my glass three quarters full ATM and IMO the bloodletting starts this week

Comment #113@109 :
I was worried last week that we were looking for a replacement for KRUL? With Arsenal apparantly after him? It would,nt be the first time that the Gooners have nicked someone from us ( Gervinho and they also ended up with that Russian, uuum! oh yey Arse-Shaving )!
This keeper Zoete is basically a kid and is seen as a future Number 1 keeper for the Dutch First Team? It would a major mistake i believe if we sold KRUL to Arsenal? Even for Silly Money?

Comment #114Geordie dan blah blah blah, read it properly. You are making a big thing about nothing. I have not slagged Ed off nor will I. It is just another ‘journo’ headline with nothing to say, it is not saying there is any proof. It is Ed being Ed, can’t think he will be offended. Ed does a fantastic job most of the time, but I will pull him up on headlines like this, and continual use of Bigi is the next big thing! That he trundles out on a regular basis.
Ed is a legend, and don’t threaten me with everyone taking me on, on this blog. Are you the peoples champion, I doubt it. Most people on here took it for what it was, a frustrated remark about a nothing story.
