Liverpool After Former Magpies Striker Target – Newcastle Interested?

11:07 pm, Saturday, July 13th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 17 Comments

Apart from Darren Bent and Loic Remy, it’s not clear who the other striker targets are at Newcastle right now, so we’ve looked at a couple of youngsters that look good and at this point are not too expensive, yet have good goal-scoring records – here’s a 21 year-old Czech striker we covered earlier today.

kevin gameiro

Kevin Gameiro – 26 year-old PSG striker

Newcastle may go after former targets, and one of them could be Kevin Gameiro, who we went after two years ago and even lodged a bid of £10M for the former Lorient striker, who has been not fared well at PSG over the last two years, especially since the great Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived in Paris last summer.

Gameiro has admitted that Spanish club Sevilla have been after him lately, and this is what Kevin said on the French web-site today:

“Yes, there are discussions with Sevilla FC , “I’m not going hide. I have opportunities everywhere but it’s true, I have a preference for the Liga.”

And two years ago Kevin also preferred Spain, so maybe that’s a communication to other Spanish clubs that he’s available.

And news today that Liverpool may go after the striker, if they do lose Luis Suarez this summer, and that’s being reported in Caughtoffside.

Kevin started his career at Strasbourg in 2004 and joined Lorient in 2008, where he played 120 times with 56 goals, and in two seasons at PSG he’s played 78 times with 23 goals.

Hopefully he would be a lot less than £10M these days, so here’s a possible striker Newcastle could go after, although it doesn’t seem he’s too interested in coming to England.

And it will be an advantage that Newcastle have so many French players in the squad, so Kevin could settle down quickly if he was signed by Newcastle, but the emphasis has to be on “if”.

But we need to sign at least one striker this week, and the Newcastle squad flies off to Portugal on Wednesday, and will stay there about a week and play games against Rio Ave on Saturday night, and then Pacos de Ferreira on the following Tuesday night.

Not on usual for players to do indivdual training during pre-season.

If we don’t sign anybody next week I fear the worse, where is our forward planning?

I heard we made a bid for Gamerio last week. I have heard nothing since so don’t get your hopes up.

I hopefully we have been waiting on U-20 world cup to finish.

So hopefully we have been waiting on Thauvin, Zouma and all the rest we have been linked with.

The mirror is reporting the Cisse was ordered to train alone in the gym because of the Wonga shirt problem. This could well be why we are looking for 2 strikers

This season is going to be as bad as last , more players out the door than in … Thought the talk from the club was we need better quality replacements? Well action speaks louder than words
