Arsenal Bid £7M For Magpies Goalkeeper – It’s Not Nearly Enough

10:01 am, Sunday, July 14th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 40 Comments

It seems that Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper target, the Brazilian International Julio Cesar, who had an excellent tournament this summer in the Confederations Cup, may be returning to Italy at Napoli.

Tim Krul - Newcastle goalkeeper is going nowhere

And presumably that’s why there has been news that Newcastle’s Tim Krul is now in the sights of Arsenal, and Arsene Wenger has said he wants more competition for Polish Internationals Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski.

But the news that Wenger will bid only £7M or less, will mean that Tim Krul will be going nowhere this summer, and that fee would need to at least double before Mike Ashley would even think of parting with Krul.

Tim has had two good seasons as Newcastle’s number one goalkeeper, since he took over from veteran Steve Harper, and he’s one of the Premier League’s most promising keepers, and is likely to be in the Holland goal next summer at the World Cup in Brazil.

Tim is recovering from a dislocated shoulder he suffered against Sunderland, but he seems on track to make the first game of the season at Manchester City on Monday night, 19th August.

The 25 year-old 5 times capped Dutch international signed a lucrative five-year deal last year with Newcastle, and he’s been on Tyneside since Grahame Souness brought him in during the summer of 2005, when he was just 17.

There’s no way Tim Krul will be leaving Newcastle this summer.

Not sure why you think that ED
Tommy had as poorer season as the rest of the team and goalies don’t generally fetch mega fee’s with the exception of De Gea or Lloris

Imagine if we’d signed bony and remy. Not exactly breaking the bank.

  • 3 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:07 AM

    Krul is staying.

  • 4 Ben3arfa // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:07 AM

Krul is worth about 15m in all honesty .

Plus why are Arsenal bidding for him ?Dont they have those two Polish Keepers?

  • 5 Perchinho Pricing Blunder // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:08 AM

@tads tbh 7 million is probably about right. You could actually get 2 decent keepers for that

  • 6 Indian Magpie // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:09 AM

for those saying we signed 5 players in the winter thereby filling summer quota.

2 of those should have been signed last summer.

we have already sold 1 and could sell donkey ameobi and Gosling.

We have no youngsters coming through

Well butland was only 4 mil and he is one of England’s brightest prospects people keep saying.

So for a proven prem keeper around 7-10 mil won’t be far off the mark.

Arsenal have needed a keeper for years, they have some very average ones, one of the worst in the league I think.

We need players in before any go out though

  • 9 yorkymag // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:11 AM

I would sell at 7 ish
He is an ok keeper but his distribution is poor, there are better around and at 7 we could turn a profit and have a replacement
I know it’s not everyone’s view but I think Tim is very average

  • 10 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:11 AM

don’t be surprised if he does go, this is getting more and more like a” nightmare on barrack road”

    You have heard of Buffon?

  • 12 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:12 AM

    I am a geordie

It’s simple really. Carr is a good scout but that’s it…there are tens or hundreds of top scouts around the country who can do his job.

He just seemed to hit a purple patch with getting in a lot of players who settled quickly.

  • 13 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:13 AM

boy reckons spurs want him too

I think tim’s shot stopping is up there with the best in the league and I like the way he tried to claim a lot, he doesn’t die wondering which I think is good.

But your right, I’d go as far as saying his distribution isn’t good at all, can’t think of a worse keeper for it.

Saying that I’d like him to stay, distribution can be worked on much easier than shot stopping an reactions

There’s been the quote from Einstein cropped up a few times about basically not getting anywhere when you continue to do the same thing over and over. Which relates to our not-so-bright manager.

Well, here’s one I spotted recently on tinterweb and thought was appropriate to our dismal coaching structure.

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

Basically, if you play football in a way which is alien to good, technical players, then it will affect their confidence, attitude and lower the whole level of cohesiveness in the team. Which is what we have.

Ben Arfa defending like a fullback for long periods, Cisse on the wing, the list is long.

All because Pardew isn’t playing players in correct positions and getting the maximum impact out of their professional, and sometimes international level of skills. Attributes which should be maximised, not neutralised.

this is why this holland u21 keeper is a good move tbh cos if a big bid 15+ came in for krull there is no way elliot is 1st team material.

any Info on transfers, little murmurs you may have heard.

  • 18 Premiership Manager // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:16 AM

We’ll counter with £10M and then he’ll go. It’s a shame we let Forster go. I’m not sure Elliot is good enough however given that we have been linked with several young keepers my guess is that he’ll go.

  • 19 DevonToon // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:16 AM

Iv never understood why keepers “should” cost less, a good keeper can really be the difference! Krul was the reason we went through in the europa for eg and super shay saved us countless points a season. If lloris and de gea are going for 15+ mill so should timmy krul

    Nothing in afraid.

I don’t really care about football in the summer, it’s cricket season which I enjoy much more.

I haven’t done much digging with people and all I’ve heard is very little is going on, people dot even seem to be in the office, no higher ups anyway.

  • 22 croftus5678 // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:18 AM

i agree krull’s kicking is some of the worst i’ve seen in a keeper but between the sticks he’s one of the best imo.

trade him for elliott and i can see us losing points.

  • 23 yorkymag // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:18 AM

I do think that Timmy missed colo probably more than we realised ,they had a good understanding and colo clearly helped with confidence a massive requirement for a keeper .
I know it’s dragging up old coals but for me Fraser Foster is the better prospect

  • 24 bills-son // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:18 AM

    Another load of press bollox.

Aresenal haven’t said they are interested in Krul, if they are they know Ashley won’t take £7M and top keepers under contract will go for big money.

    Mignolet went for £9M ffs.

  • 25 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:18 AM

A worse team than what we have got us to 5th. The difference? In form strikers. We need two goal scoring additions and we must play Cabaye further forward. If he can feed three goal scoring player we will have superb firepower. Remy, bent and Scott Sinclair would do the business to be fair.

if tiote can’t regain his form then we must try A midfield three of Anita, sissoko and Cabaye and a front three of remy, HBA and cisse\bent

Buffon is a wee bit different to timmy mate! ;)

Hasn’t krul also dropped down the ranks in the Dutch line up behind sketlenburg vorm and Vermeer?

  • 27 colwell // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:20 AM

Liverpool are definitely going to challenge for a top 4 spot, they are signing well, play very good football.

  • 28 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:20 AM

    Devon

Same thing why defenders usually cost less than strikers.

Strikers score goals and win games, they entertain too. I’d have said that a good striker who scores 20-30 goals a season is key to success.

  • 29 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:22 AM

is kinnear in just because the owner needs support and his scout, manager, d,o,f just couldn’t organise a pi55 up in a brewery

  • 30 yorkymag // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:23 AM

    Billson
Mignolet is a much better keeper than Tim in all areas
Particularly his domination of the box and distribution

  • 31 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:23 AM

    Bills
Prob going to get huge abuse but mignolet is a better keeper and is consistent
Timmy was all over the shop last season has p1ss poor distribution and doesn’t in anyway command his area, he flaps at corners and free kicks
He’s like a goalie cisse, saves the blinders and fluffs the sitters

  • 32 croftus5678 // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:24 AM

we are on same wavelength buddy i agree with all there

    ————–tiote————–
    ——-cab———-siss——-
    –arfa——————remy–

sinclair and bent perfect as subs and to change formations

  • 33 DevonToon // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:25 AM

We got any dutch fans on here? Every chap i speak to from holland land reckons timmys the next van der sar. They rate him so highly! He has so much potential, and remember this will be only his 3rd season as no1 and alot of his 2nd was spent injured. He is imo as good as any keeper in the league. Its really not hard to sort distribution either, a quick ” oi tim roll it out, build play from the back ” , job done

  • 34 yorkymag // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:25 AM

Twitter posts from France reporting PSG bid for cabayne at £25m
Blanc confirmed cabs as his top target

  • 35 toon kk // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:28 AM

    Speculation speculation.
The most important thing is to get our strike force sorted with quality. NOT selling one of the best keeper’s in the premier league to fund it.

  • 36 brian kilclines pony tail // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:36 AM

at 25 years old, with vast premier league experience, euro experience and international experience for one of the better nations in the world.
there is only a couple of keepers about which have these qualities and they sell for more than 7 million, no deal.

  • 37 geordiemark // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:05 AM

if arsenal want krul its simple £25 million, if arsenal put in a bid of 7 million thats an insult to the player we all rate him a lot more then that

  • 38 stuart no9 // Jul 14, 2013 at 1:26 PM

it really baffles me that some people on here are so short sighted they cant see past there nose some one said ” i would sell at 7M his distribution is poor ” come on mate give the lad a break ! hes one of the best shot stoppers we have ever had , if it hadnt have been for krul – who saved us on so many occasions last season , we would have gone down .
Krul is 25 , still a novice as far as keepers are concerned, yes his delivery is sometimes questionable but overall he is still “one for the future ” he is hollands no1 and people want rid of him ??? i dont get it ! hes not good enough for us , but he is good enough for arsene wenger. what does he know eh ?? so instead of worrying the players we have got – lets start panicking about the players we havnt got . as for krul – it is a simple ” not for sale at any price “

  • 39 stuart no9 // Jul 14, 2013 at 1:30 PM

and i forgot to mention , we are going to need a top top keeper next season coz believe me he is going to have his work cut out every single game we play.

  • 40 Greebol1892 // Jul 15, 2013 at 4:24 AM

Tim is already a world-class keeper, Holland no.1 and should not be for sale. ANY replacement is a step backwards. 7m? gimme a break……….
