News in the Evening Chronicle today that Newcastle are expecting a bid from Paris St Germain for French International central midfielder Yohan Cabaye.
Yohan Cabaye – PSG about to bid
The report suggests that Newcastle think PSG’s interest in Cabaye is genuine, and of course PSG manager Laurent Blanc has said a number of times this summer that he would like Cabaye at the Paris club.
And Alan Pardew has complained about Blanc talking about players he wants at the Paris club – and that was just before Alan said Newcastle want both Darren Bent and Loic Remy at Newcastle this summer.
It seems fairly simple logic whether Cabaye will leave Newcastle this summer, and if the rich French club can up with a bid at or near £25M for the 23 times capped French International, then Newcastle will sell and then have time to bring in a replacement this summer.
However PSG’s bid is likely to be nowhere near £25M, and may not even be as high as £15M, and that would mean Yohan will be going nowhere this summer, unless a club like Monaco for instance come in with a very high bid, which is always possible we suppose.
Yohan joined Newcastle two years ago for around £4.3M (€5M) from then French Champions Lille, and he had an excellent first season on Tyneside, when Newcastle finished 5th top.
But Yohan struggled a bit in the second half of last season, like many other Newcastle players, as we fought against relegation and finished up 5th bottom of the league.
