Newcastle Expecting Bid For Their Top Midfielder

10:20 am, Sunday, July 14th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 224 Comments

News in the Evening Chronicle today that Newcastle are expecting a bid from Paris St Germain for French International central midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

yohan cabaye newcastle 99

Yohan Cabaye – PSG about to bid

The report suggests that Newcastle think PSG’s interest in Cabaye is genuine, and of course PSG manager Laurent Blanc has said a number of times this summer that he would like Cabaye at the Paris club.

And Alan Pardew has complained about Blanc talking about players he wants at the Paris club – and that was just before Alan said Newcastle want both Darren Bent and Loic Remy at Newcastle this summer. :D

It seems fairly simple logic whether Cabaye will leave Newcastle this summer, and if the rich French club can up with a bid at or near £25M for the 23 times capped French International, then Newcastle will sell and then have time to bring in a replacement this summer.

However PSG’s bid is likely to be nowhere near £25M, and may not even be as high as £15M, and that would mean Yohan will be going nowhere this summer, unless a club like Monaco for instance come in with a very high bid, which is always possible we suppose.

Yohan joined Newcastle two years ago for  around £4.3M (€5M) from then French Champions Lille, and he had an excellent first season on Tyneside, when Newcastle finished 5th top.

But Yohan struggled a bit in the second half of last season, like many other Newcastle players, as we fought  against relegation and finished up 5th bottom of the league. :(

    He’s gone IMO.

  • 2 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:22 AM

Why would you want to stay with this lack of ambition and the appointment of a clown as DOF.

  • 3 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:23 AM

    he went ages ago imho

  • 4 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:23 AM

Players come an go all the time at clubs like ours. Got toaccept it and move on.

I’d say we shouldn’t worry but with Ashley we always will as we don’t know if the replacement will arrive a day after, a week after or a year after.

If players were replaced the same window this wouldn’t be a massive issue

  • 5 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:25 AM

Prob going to get huge abuse but mignolet is a better keeper and is consistent
Timmy was all over the shop last season has p1ss poor distribution and doesn’t in anyway command his area, he flaps at corners and free kicks
He’s like a goalie cisse, saves the blinders and fluffs the sitters

  • 6 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:25 AM

no name on the back is bigger than the name on the front

I think this was the plan when Kinnear came in. Sell a few fringe players and one big player to then reinvest……… 2015. ;)

  • 8 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:27 AM

Watch Fulham sign some trophy players with a new billionaire. Pards must be looking our rival teams all strengthening and thinking oh shit.

  • 9 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:30 AM

The more clubs who get wealthy owners willing to spend the less financial fair play will have to do as they will worry clubs could form their own league if enough have big money.

More and more clubs each year are gettin wealthier owners so its a matter of time until we slip away unless things change

  • 10 toon kk // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:31 AM

MA waiting for the sale of one or two of our best players to fund other targets.

  • 11 ArtyH // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:31 AM

    @ 7 What? Wonga? LOL’s

  • 12 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:31 AM

We need a top quality commanding CB, ACM, goal scoring winger/2nd striker and 15 goal striker to have a hope in hell of reaching top 8 this season.

  • 13 Newcastle Brown Alien // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:31 AM

Cabaye swap for menez and gameiro please PSG. I’d actually love that. also bring in remy and have this team

  • 14 ArtyH // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:31 AM

    OOP’S Ment 6 not 7

  • 15 croftus5678 // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:32 AM

if he goes 25mil is a good price but theres no doubt he’s one of the first on the teamsheet !

we do have the perfect replacements though so no need to buy a replacement as we have anita/sissoko/tiote/bigi who will be fighting for 2-3 positions but i would like to hear the words “any incoming funds will be spent on new players” and i’m not hearing that ^^

i would trade cab’s (or his funds) for remy/sinclair and bent as we would be a hell of a lot better off imo

  • 16 DevonToon // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:34 AM

Sage, you telling me watching shay wasnt entertaining? I know its not nice watching our goal getting peppered, but watching timmy, shay or who ever make utterly ridiculous save is entertainment… It hard to really tell who wins you more points a season, a shay or a shearer, but id say keeper imo

  • 17 yorkymag // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:34 AM

    Toon kk
I think you may well be right
Cabs 25m with the salary savings on perch and the other leavers is the summer pot
Have to say thou if this gets us bent and remy with nice and a n other
We will be a better team for it
Sissoko in his right place next to mr t or Anita not sure we will miss the moody Frenchman too much

  • 18 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:34 AM

    Transfer. Totally agree.

Football is now about big spending billionaires and the rest of mid to bottom table scrapers. We are currently the latter. Unless MA changes his approach or sells to a big owner we will never be successful. The big guns are here to stay now and the buy cheap policy is now being done by all our rival teams. Swansea are a team who have completely leap frogged us.

  • 19 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:35 AM

if ashley fails to get his appointments into gear he is in for a rude awakening for sure

  • 20 yorkymag // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:35 AM

    Sorry ince not nice
    But it would be nice

  • 21 toon kk // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:37 AM

Unless we get quality signings in we’re going to struggle again next season.
Every club is moving forward but us. Typical penny pinching MA.

  • 22 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:37 AM

Michu and bony are gonna be formidable next season.

  • 23 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:38 AM

I wouldn’t mind if tiote went. Jonas as back up only.

  • 25 yorkymag // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:39 AM

I not one to support Ashley at all but I think you are a bit harsh
Lets wait to the end of the window and see
I hate Ashley with a passion don’t get me wrong but I have a good feeling about this window

  • 26 brian kilclines pony tail // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:40 AM

  • 27 Rotonda heights // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:40 AM

What a shambles we are. Nothing but negative press from owner – manager – d.o.f and sponsor.

  • 28 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:41 AM

they end is well into the season if any come in and dont ,cant perform wait for the excuse of they had no preseason blah blah blah

  • 29 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:41 AM

I think our FBs are a weakness – too many players ghosted past debuchy and santon caught napping up field with no cover. Jonas hasn’t got the legs to cover anymore.

  • 30 Rotonda heights // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:43 AM

I think swansea under Laudrup will just get better and better. Great knowledgeable football owner and chairman and superb young manager.

  • 33 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:48 AM

guys i’m really looking forward to all these signings of HUGE flops all these clubs are making that can surely never make the grade in the prem >.<

they should take a leaf out of toons books and stick with the same team as last year before buying in jan then we may get bent for 4.5mil instead of 5mil :-)

oh…hold on ashley and kinear on hols again all jan transfer window O.o

  • 35 cestriasteve // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:50 AM

£20 would be a good deal, also fits in with the sell to buy attitude at the club.

This is going to give Pardew a few headaches he hasnt got a clue in midfield with Cabaye in the team so whats he going to do with him leaving??

  • 36 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:50 AM

Not saying given or krul aren’t entertaining but I think a striker is more valuable.

With a good keeper and no good goal scorer the best you can do is draw. With a good striker you can win more I think.

In reality all 20 prem keepers are good enough, some better than others but all do the basics well. I wouldn’t say that all teams had the same quality up front. I think there are only 5/6 very good strikers where all 20 keepers are at a good standard really

  • 37 Indian Magpie // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:51 AM

If the season were to start today or Tommorow we will be prime relegation candidates FACT!

    He is not a fighter

  • 39 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:52 AM

Agreed very exciting times for Swansea supporters. still can’t believe the DOF appointment.

Ashley has all the money and making of a great team to bring in a top manager and improved coaching setup. Along with 40 million investment would see us competing for trophies. That money would be recouped by the tv money alone.

  • 40 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:52 AM

Yeh top level football is all about money.

Doesn’t mean you can enjoy your football a few leagues down…just as Newcastle fans we have been spoilt with consistent top flight football really.

  • 41 thai-mag // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:53 AM

the trouble with selling players before buying is clubs will know we are desperate to buy and will up their valuation, plus as we are seeing now there will be less good quality players available as all the clubs around us are buying them all

  • 42 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:53 AM

But it doesn’t. It starts mid August so there is still a month to see if things get better or worse

  • 43 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:53 AM

Our weaknesses are in priority order striker, CB, fullback positions.

    Anyone disagree?

  • 44 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:53 AM

the believers are conspicuous by there absence

  • 45 Indian Magpie // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:54 AM

CABAYE could be sold for 25 million or released for free. I don’t know how that will affect a NUFC supporter.

  • 46 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:55 AM

    disagree the weakness’s are…..
    ashley,kinnear, then pardew

  • 47 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:56 AM

I genuinely think if we sign a 20 goal a season striker and a good left sided winger/forward we will be in a great position.

We have 4 centre backs, 4 fullbacks, 5 centre mids…so we are well covered in those positions.

  • 48 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:56 AM

Very true. I thoroughly enjoyed our championship season. Honest football.

  • 49 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:58 AM

  • 50 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:58 AM

Exactly. We all want to play the best teams and see our side win…very few teams have it all.

We may have been playing lesser teams but we saw a lot of wins and exciting football that season.

Not saying I want us to go down but merely that if we go it doesn’t mean no more Newcastle, it’s just a different newcastle

  • 51 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:59 AM

    @ spuggy

In order of priority it would be

    1. Striker – Remy
    2.Winger – Sinclair
    3. CB – Alderwireld
    4. Creative/attacking mid – De Jong

Those are minimum needed IMO, and then we need to replace players that have left like Perch & Simmo.

  • 52 croftus5678 // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:59 AM

imo things aint that bad for next season i’m thinking we are mid/lower table as things stand atm (as when cisse does not play i cant see where are goals are coming from) and i dont believe we will be in relegation fight again now the players settled with no pressure on them !

the reason i p*ss and moan is because we have gone from a team capable of top 6 (if we had signed just 1 player) to mid/bottom table and that everyone else below us has got stronger while we stayed the same so far !

they can turn it around ofc still plenty of time left and bent/remy/sinclair are still availible and many many more but if they dont next season isnt going to be pleseant for toon fans.

  • 53 numba9 // Jul 14, 2013 at 10:59 AM

Has every1 realized now that we will never do anything but struggle under ashleys regime? Too slow to catch cold losing out on targets right left and centre to the norwichs of the world, trying to sell our best players and pocketing most of it along with the prem sky doe also hoodwinks every 1 to buy season tickets with broken promises of pushing on . Then disrespects our history in every possible way crass is what he is and that’s putting it mildly

  • 54 Indian Magpie // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:02 AM

Alan Pardew has inquired if we can win a cup and not be put in Europe.

    The Answer is No

  • 55 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:03 AM

Not sure i agree. Without colo our organisation is shocking. I still think we need a commanding CB, then deploy mbiwa at FB against tough wingers.

I fear we have no true leader on the pitch.

  • 56 ToonDanno // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:03 AM

Alright chaps! When Remy signs will you guys be happy?

  • 57 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:04 AM

    Big papa

Good shout on those targets. Exactly what we need.

  • 58 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:04 AM

I agree with Remy, Siem De Jong and Alderweireld. Don’t rate Sinclair. We shouldn’t just sign English players for the sake of it.

  • 59 ToonMatt // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:06 AM

Cha-Ching!! Profit for Ashley! Cabaye is as good as gone, we are a feeder club for the big boys now.

  • 61 geordiemark // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:07 AM

think cabayes head has already been turned by PSG and monoco we cant blame him if he wants to leave the player has ambition its just ashley doesnt and if we get £25+ million then expect it to go where the andy carroll transfer fee went

  • 62 cestriasteve // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:07 AM

ToonDanno, yes I will be happy he will score 15 goals a season but I think he is a complete knob!! have you seen the video on Youtube, he absolutely loves himself!!

  • 63 croftus5678 // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:07 AM

    @55 spuggy

mbiwa is a born captain and organiser form his time before us he just needs to earn that respect from the players he’s with now and he will prove a huge asset.

i agree we need another though as collo will not be with us much longer and better to bed someone in now than to gamble when collo goes.

fb’s we are solid for though imo santon/hairdryer/deb’s/dummett/anita/mbiwa/raylor/tav (personally dont like him)

  • 64 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:08 AM

Apart from the obvious strikers I believe a good CB would be the final piece as it would give us loads of options. Mbiwa deployable across the back four and able to shore up FB if needed.

  • 65 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:08 AM

I just want to see our team play like we all know it can and Pardew is the one holding us back.

It breaks my heart when I see teams like Wigan or Southampton giving City a game at the Etihad and attacking from the start, yet we turn up and just roll over and get comfortably beaten.

The only time I have seen us go for it against a big hitter was against Man U in the game Perch scored. We played some nice stuff and had a good go. Granted we lost but it is easier to stomach and I can have more pride in the team.

If we played like that against the likes of Wigan & Reading we would have been safe a long time ago. But here I am watching us defend a 1-0 lead to Reading at home only to be beaten. Pardew is holding us back, I feel sorry for the people who either can’t see this or defend the man no matter what. I will never forgive the man for making me endure results like 6-0 3-0 (mackems) & 7-3.

  • 66 John Tudor // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:08 AM

cabaye may be the first but not the last cha- ching all the way for ashley

  • 67 croftus5678 // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:09 AM

i agree remy would make me a happy chappy as atleast our team will have improved with a quality player rather than a makeshift one !

  • 68 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:11 AM

It may be that once the frenchies like mbiwa have cracked the language barrier that all will be well.

I still think they’re a season or two off the finished EPL article. Big season for them coming up with a full pre season behind them.

  • 69 croftus5678 // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:11 AM

the main thing is all our players played in there true possitions all season then we will see a huge difference in the players we have atm.

Maybe Newcastle should learn from the likes of Arsenal and buy Cabs replacement before we loose him!

…that makes for a better transision and we don’t look desperate when he eventually leave!

But who am I kidding we never seem to learn; we are still to sign Ba’s replacement!

  • 72 geordiemark // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:15 AM

I agree players dont like playing in different positions all the time it unbalances them, fair enough some players are very adapted but if you look at cabaye he does play at an advanced postion in midfield so its no brainer you play your players the way they want to play

  • 73 sparky55 // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:15 AM

BPC…100% correct…Pardew is the cancer…he sets up his teams not to lose even against the likes of Reading FFS who had not won away from home til they came to us…we scored…Pardew blinked first…McDermott saw the blink and we lost the game…Pardew deserved to be sacked just on that game alone…it was horrendous viewing and then he went all out against Man U and Arsenal and proved we could go after any team in the division and then reverted back to defensive 4-4-2 against the crap teams…the man’s an idiot and everything will change for the better as soon as he’s sacked.

    @ Kets

Sinclair could be from Mars for all I care, Being British has nothing to do with it.

The lad has great feet, an eye for goal, good crossing, PL proven and quick. Hate to see him being ruined at City. Only problem I can see in a move for him is wages.

Speaking of City, one player I would love from them is Dzeko, he is far too good to get the odd game here and there. Him & Cisse could work well IMO and get us 30 plus goals between them a season.

  • 84 geordiemark // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:22 AM

wouldnt touch remy he had his chance in january and ba well he ran out of the club as soon as chelsea come calling so no on both fronts, we want players who wish to play for us and who are hungry to play not players who think of there wage packets

  • 85 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:23 AM

  • 87 DevonToon // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:24 AM

Sage – i cant really agree or disagree with what ur saying. Its just my opinion that a keepers more important, but im sure anyone could argue a point for any position on the pitch being the most important. For eg al-habsi saved wigan countless points and arguably kept them in the league, but if they had had an average keeper but a goalscorer, he would have scored the goals to keep them up. Its all just opinions

  • 88 Tinman // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:25 AM

Quality player, too injury prone, his temperament will catch up with him and he is too often is distinctly average.
Sell for 15m+ imo, good thing is we are likely to get 20m+ or so for him.

  • 89 geordiemark // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:25 AM

you know what really irritates me is players have to much power these days, there over rated, over paid and there transfer fees are a bloody disgrace really and its all down to top teams paying them stupid wages ect ect then the players go around attacking people, rape ect ect the list is endless maybe we should go back to the good old days when the manager layed the law down and the players toed the line or else

  • 90 sparky55 // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:25 AM

3 purples gone by the time the window closes . Cabs has already gone

That means 2 more to go from the list below

and not because we want to sell them because we certainly don’t want to sell Cabs for example do we???…it’s because the players don’t want to be part of a football team that plays the way Pardew wants them to play…and who can blame them.

Pardew is the problem for sure…and we’ll never be able to attract players of the right calibre to replace the outgoing purples either because what type of player would want to join the toon playing the type of football we play (except of course for mercenary tw@ts like Remy)…it’s hardly something that will wet the appetite of the average good footballer looking for a move to the premiership.

…and with the added joke value of JFK we’ll be scaring off more players than we can attract for sure.

this isnt the time to panic, newcastle are being to slow in this window for a reason, they obviously have targets and some they may have lost but lets not be forced into panic buys like alot of clubs are doing ,they have the new tv money and there all like kids in a sweet shop ,newcastle will suprise people in this window with the quality of player they bring through ,and they will once again show up other clubs by getting great value for money ,am worried a little by swansea and norwhich they have signed good players but the rest of the spenders have brought in dross ie sunderland ,well outside the top 6 anyway . i think we are gonna be raided by fulham ,psg, and arsnal and will lose cisse ,cabaye, and krul , i think ,well i have been told unofficially that we will be bringing in sinclair, jack rodwell ,shay given ,abel hanandez and pablo sarabia and a couple a youngsters ,put it on at bookies ,they dont want to lose cisse and they have been trying to peusuade demba ba back ,failling that they will go after shane long and darren bent as cisse replacement and will rely on new signing abel hanadez to fire us to glory ,which if they get him we will have a great player ,also hugo almeida is a target as well as chelsea s molouda

  • 97 geordiemark // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:28 AM

think cisse, cabaye, krul said that before the season finished they would be off cant blame any of them really if the owner has no ambition then why should the players stick around

  • 98 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:29 AM

Yeh exactly. Each to their own really. Any good player is an important player really.

My point was more that all 20 keepers are good where all 20 strikers aren’t good goalscorers. So it easier to find a good keeper as oppose to a good striker.

  • 99 Spuggy // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:30 AM

I agree but I don’t think we’re in a position to attract quality players who want to play for us so remy becomes a decent prospect.

We missed the chance to bring in real quality and decent individuals when we secured Europa. Terrible decision not to take advantage and being in top talent then.

  • 100 colwell // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:30 AM

    Big Pappa Cissé

Yes that would be a great deal but I think Menez was wanted by Monaco recently for 15m, I’d take him and Gaimero in a shot.

  • 101 Tinman // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:32 AM

    Debuchy – Colo – Mbiwa – Santon
    Sissoko – Anita
    HBA – Marv – Gouf

Thats our best team is cabs is gone IMO.
Remy in for Gouf and thats a very attacking mobile team.

  • 102 Transfer Sage // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:33 AM

I’d be interested to compare all clubs accounts.

Others seem to spend more. Sure all these clubs like west ham, Norwich, Swansea etc can’t all be wrong and only is right can they?

How are they all getting money? Are the racking up debt and having the loans pile up every year? Or are they finding a way to spend money wisely and make money go further than we are.

  • 103 Bearsize // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:33 AM

When we get linked to someone (young dutch keeper) the club are basically saying we are selling our number one. We keep getting linked to center midfielders when we are ok there. Hoping someone to come in with bids. Noticed we havnt followed up with that keeper yet? We will only buy when we sell. Thats why last summer was poor. But the other clubs are on to us. TO STOP SELLING CLUB GETTING STRONGER, DONT BUY THEIR PLAYERS. unfortunatly we are fekked!

  • 104 geordiemark // Jul 14, 2013 at 11:33 AM

yep most teams in any league would have bought players to combat euro leagues but there was no ambition to go out and win it nothing they signed anita and that was it, it was only when ashley saw relegation staring him in the face he pulled his finger out in january to buy players that was the only reason

If a big offer came in from PSG it would be very difficult for him to turn down.

Why would a Frenchman not want to play for the richest team in France, in the capital of France, in the presence of the French National selectors, speaking his own language, having his family happily settled in their own country and their own culture and possibly being paid more?

  • 128 Lowesy // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:28 PM

you all say that you don’t want Cabaye because he has no fight in him… yet you want Remy (chose QPR over us, a team well known by the end of the season as having no fight) and Gameiro (another player who chose someone else over us and stated he didn’t want to join us). Cabaye had depression, was our vice-captain and still played. £25m is a lot but I’d rather have him than two money grabbing slouches who would command high wages anyway.

  • 129 Jamesthefirst // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:31 PM

    Cabaye is going nowhere.

Ashley turned down £22 million for him in Jan (according to Llambarse) said to be from Arsenal.

No one will pay the £25 million asking price for a 27 year old.

The bloke is an injury prone crock of sh1te and if ppl can only genuinely say the only positive is oh well better than shola it shows there ambitions have dropped more than Ashley’s!

  • 131 Slank // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:43 PM

If Cayabe says he wants to move then there is not much Newcastle can do. Players nowadays hold all the aces. Clubs do not want disgruntled players in their dressing rooms, especially one as influential as Cabaye.

Personally, I think Cabaye is his own man and he selected Newcastle for the challenge. He is an intelligent thoughtful individual and not your normal run of the mill football player. He is the focus of the French contingent at the club and was highly influential in recruiting many of the other French players. This may have some bearing on his decision.

I would say it’s 50/50 whether he goes or stays.

  • 132 toonluvva // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:44 PM

    And so it starts.

Cabaye will NOT be a NUFC player next season.

Nor will Krul or Cisse. It’s doubtful whether Hatem will still be here next May.

Thats entirely down to Pardews tictacs and more recently bringing JoKe in as DoF.

Plus points for Pardew is that Jonas and Tiote will be guaranteed starters, as will Shola.

I’ve renewed my season ticket, but my patience is fast running out with the club I have supported for many a long year.

If we don’t get in any reinforcements for a paper thin squad which will get weaker as the decent players depart, I’ll be watching the toon on the internet after next season.

  • 133 DevonToon // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:44 PM

We all like to think we are the best mangers in the world, i know i am like. So this is how i would set us up. Obviously GK – KRUL, id play RWB – DEBUCHY and LWB – SANTON to provide the width in my narrow 4-3-3. Both SISSOKO and TIOTE at CDM, but giving mous the licence to break from the back, and arrive late in the box from deep. CAM is CABAYE pulling the strings just behind the front 3, i would play both BEN ARFA and MARVEAUX in do what u like rolls, just let them do their things. ST – CISSE let him poach. What do u lot think?

  • 134 HullMag6 // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:45 PM

If cabs left it would only be for top dollar or cash plus player (s) deal. Allegedly the big man’s favourite players so wont be sold cheaply.

The Cisse/wonga story I feel is lazy journalism
How many other Muslims in the club and haven’t raised the issue – socks, benny, chiek to name 3 pr is Papis more devout in his following of Allah but surely the virgin deal would have been an issue too. I’ll buy the theory of alternative train due to Ramadan though.

Ps the only way id accept Krul’s departure is for a greater fee or that fee plus player (Giroud or the ox in exchange)

  • 137 lesh // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:49 PM

Even if Cabaye doesn’t go to PSG does because he’s not allowed to, his head will have been turned and like last season when ManU were reported to be interested in his form will be badly affected. His head’ll be elsewhere and I’d like to think that the Wise One (that’s JFK) has worked that out and has a ready-made replacement lined up.

Now then and this appears to be most posters’ worry is why have we not got our targets in for the start of pre-season preparations. It’s fundamental that the longer I comers are with their new team-mates, the better they’ll understand ones other.

One reason may be that our DoF, the one responsible for assessing the squad and identifying and adressing needs, is on holiday.

That, I find astonishing and were I Ashley, I’d have questioned Kinnear’s priorities – a holiday or the business?

It beggars belief, a newly appointed director doesn’t appear to have put a full week in in four he’s been with the club!

It’s.just incredible that he hasn’t yet met the squad and I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping he’s got some quality players signed up for unveiling next week!

  • 138 Newcastleforlife // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:49 PM

Regarding Krul:Newcastle will be forced to sell Krul if the deal from Arsenal include Giroud. Will definitely take Krul+5-8 million for Giroud

Regarding Cabaye: Its nt the money bt its the formation thats important. In 4-4-2, he is irreplacable. In 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, I blv we can loose him…. so its Pards call ..

  • 139 Ian Toon // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:50 PM

Tads- Your a good judge of a player. Although because I note your player comments I recall you being overly critical of Elliot after an initial appearance against Blackburn in the League Cup. Mignolet is a reliable and solid goalkeeper. However, hes not as good as Tim in my opinion.

Admittedly Tim didn’t play with the same authority and assurance last season but he was impacted by injury and an unreliable defence. For me he’s on a par with Joe Hart as the best shot stopper in the PL and is generally a very good decision maker. Krul can improve his kicking. You’ll remember that it took Shay a while to sort out that part of his game.

Certainly in away matches I always feel that Tim makes a big difference and the best I’ve seen at the toon other than Shay.

  • 140 Billythefish // Jul 14, 2013 at 12:51 PM

Deals are probably already sorted, cabaye and Krul will be off PSG and arsenal. We will get Bent as no one else will touch him, same with Remy, maybe Cisse will go.
What sticks in the throat is even as a Geordie I would be off rather than waste my career under this current owner. Everything coming out if the club states we can’t compete with the big clubs.
In my opinion he should piss off and take the idiots that he has employed with him.
I know the season doesn’t start for a while so if something miraculous happens and we keep our good players and get some good players through the door, I might change my opinion but since Ashley took over we have been anything but stable. 1 season apart.

The fact that he is obviously waiting for a top champions league club- he would not go to a team out of the champions league- I’m pretty sure he’s said this in the past.

That really is deluded to think we could simply ‘take’ Eriksen.

  • 181 stuart no9 // Jul 14, 2013 at 2:54 PM

does anyone think ash is ready to sell the club ? hence the reason for the lack of activity in the TM. Why would he invest millions if he has a buyer who is willing to buy the club , but only when pardew is gone ( 7 year contract and all that caper) . enter, JFK., sicken pardew. – no new players , make life difficult for him, he jacks, ash sells , everybody happy, ( exept pardew, )

  • 182 Newcastleforlife // Jul 14, 2013 at 2:54 PM

Have any body seen Jelle Vossen …. Many Aston Villa fans speaks highly of him

  • 183 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 14, 2013 at 2:58 PM

I think we’d stand a chance in signing him. We have a good squad.

  • 184 luke.r // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:00 PM

How many times have we heard that we’ve bid for someone who they’ve bid for one of our players and it turns out to be a lie? Even if arsenal do put in a bid there int a chance we’d accept 7 mil. He’s 25 and one of the most promising keepers in the league and like the article said, he will probably be in net for holland next year. Granted through injuries last season he didn’t have the best season before but no one was complaining about him the season before. He loves Newcastle and he’s mostly loved by te fans, really can’t see him leaving.

  • 185 stuart no9 // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:01 PM

it really baffles me that some people on here are so short sighted they cant see past there nose some one said ” i would sell at 7M his distribution is poor ” come on mate give the lad a break ! hes one of the best shot stoppers we have ever had , if it hadnt have been for krul – who saved us on so many occasions last season , we would have gone down .
Krul is 25 , still a novice as far as keepers are concerned, yes his delivery is sometimes questionable but overall he is still “one for the future ” he is hollands no1 and people want rid of him ??? i dont get it ! hes not good enough for us , but he is good enough for arsene wenger. what does he know eh ?? so instead of worrying the players we have got – lets start panicking about the players we havnt got . as for krul – it is a simple ” not for sale at any price “

    39stuart no9 // Jul 14, 2013 at 1:30 PM

and i forgot to mention , we are going to need a top top keeper next season coz believe me he is going to have his work cut out every single game we play.

  • 186 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:04 PM

@Kets – yes we have a decent squad- but it’s everything else that would stand in our way.

  • 187 colwell // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:11 PM

Would anyone take Christiano Ronaldo? I think we could get him we have a good squad. If we offer around 90m he would be ours. We will also be able too offer league and FA cup games untill we get knocked out by Brighton.

Sorry been sniffing the same shite Kets has -

    Players in- Suarez
Alderweireld (he’s the best defender in the
    world ever, FACT)

with the stupid 8 year deal.

  • 190 mattnufc // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:16 PM

Why when we have Marveaux and Abeid? Better than Rob Lee and in fact the best midfielders in history.

  • 191 colwell // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:21 PM

Ahhh very true I got so excited I forgot we had Marv and Abeid who is better than Cabaye already.

I have also put my bet on UTD to finish 11th as Norwich,Swansea,Saints all have better squads HAHA.

Alderweireld, Sorry have to get his name into every post.

25mill for Cabaye and 10mill for Krul
would be alright. As long as all of it is spent
    on transfers this summer.

25mil for cabaye?? yes plzzz 10 mil for krul? no sory 15mil+a youth player

  • 194 DevonToon // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:27 PM

Here here @ 185 been saying the same earlier. Timmy Krul is an immense keeper. Probably the 2nd best in the league IMO. And if he sorted his distribution he would would be on par with Hugo Loris, who i think is top keeper in the prem

  • 197 jimmysmith // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:36 PM

Both will be sold if the money is right. 20 mill plus will get Cabs and 12 mill plus Krul. Cant stand in their way, nor should we. Absolutely no guarantee we can replace these players or get the quality we need over the line either, even if we are legitimately in for them. Anxious times.

  • 200 jimmysmith // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:50 PM

Not saying this is going to happen, but there’s definitely the possibility that the wheels are about to fall off at the Toon.

Joe Kinnear has gone to ground, our best players could easily start jumping ship and we won’t be able to replace them.

I really do wonder if Kinnear wasn’t brought in to induce Pards to walk, who apparently won’t, and we’re about to see some major fallout, which may have been inevitable the moment Joe was brought in anyway.

Shocking lack of ambition at the Toon, and all the ashley lovers are being showed up as naive. I have to laugh when Norwich buy a perfectly suitable player for Newcastle, and the the Ashley lovers like Croftus go ” oh well who says we were in for him anyway” ?? Here’s something mate – maybe we SHOULD be in for him. Still, if Joe hasnt heard of him he cant be any good. I wonder if Joe has a hotline into Ajax and Co , just like he had with Wenger and Fergie….??!!!

  • 204 stuart no9 // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:55 PM

rotonda- yeah but. put yourself in pards position. i know it could be very easy for pards to stick it out , however , dont you think there must come a time when you say . enough is enough, been humiliated for xyz months – theres a breaking point in every body, how much can 1 take. not saying its going to happen , but if ash really wanted to ,he could make life impossible . whats more important? 7 years worth of compo or your dignity? lets face it pards dosnt need the money – we would , but pards is by now financially secure- i think his dignity would be of more importance. who knows ?

  • 205 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 14, 2013 at 3:57 PM

If it is true that Cisse has to train away from the rest of his team mates because he refuses to wear a sponsors shirt – then it has become a sad day for football – when a sponsorship deal determines who plays for you.

  • 206 vipgreek // Jul 14, 2013 at 4:21 PM

would love to see these signings at newcastle even though i doubt will even get one of them.

    Gameiro – PSG -Striker
    Zoet- PSV – GK

there is heaps of talent in europe but money talks i would personally like to see newcastle sign the above 3 mentioned but also Siem De Jong, Fingobasson striker from Heerenveen kicked 24 goals last year, and also the Captain of Feyenord 21 year old Stefan De Vrij if we were to do six signings like this Newcastle in my mind would easy challenge for a top 4-6 position but you will need to spend 30 million to do this, Ashley wont even spend not even half that or a third so who knows

  • 207 DevonToon // Jul 14, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Munster – you sound like a child whos parents wont get him this n that toy NOW! When the window shuts will be the only time any of us see if the toon have ambition. He bought quality in jan, either to be ambitious or to save the tv money.. We wont know till this window shuts. Now just because we havnt bought, doesnt mean we wont. Can’t blame cisse, these companies are basically using legalised theft. How can there be no limit on APR, and the people who say you know the risks are all lucky enough never to use one.
10 million a season?? It is a lot of money but where is it? We’ve bought no one and spent about 50 odd million in 5 years, absolute shambles. Lets be honest who’s gonna sign for us.
Ill buy the shirt and tear the front off. No chance ill be a walking billboard for those chancers

  • 212 bills-son // Jul 14, 2013 at 4:35 PM

No way will Pardew’s eight year contract say he gets his full outstanding wages if he is sacked – I bet he gets a diminishing % of his contract for each year remaining.

Ashley will have termed the contract to cover the possibility of sacking him earlier – any fan who thinks otherwise and believes its a conspiracy to out Pardew by bringing in JK probably believes Prince Phillip ordered Diana’s murder.

  • 217 DevonToon // Jul 14, 2013 at 4:46 PM

Bills – i too thought that, but then explain why ashley didnt sack pardew? Worst season bar relegation, but in many respects still worse. Pardew clearly cant handle pressure and showed he is an idiot eg cisse rw, subbing best players off at key points etc etc. He sacked hoots for having us mid table ffs. He must have made a boob

  • 218 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 14, 2013 at 4:49 PM

  • 219 scout // Jul 14, 2013 at 4:49 PM

They rely heavily on people defaulting and falling in a trap of always chasing. It can’t be right lads and worst of all I’m pretty sure the north east are there biggest customers.
Teams have turned down these pay day lenders in the past and personally think its a pretty tacky sponsor for such a great brand that Newcastle united are. You would never see a Manchester United or a Liverpool involved with this lot.
Whoever said you need to buy to stand still had it bang on. Cabaye will possibly move on and we will end up with a cheaper replacement and the merrygoround will continue until the music stops again

  • 220 DevonToon // Jul 14, 2013 at 4:55 PM

I dont mind wonga as a company… Iv used them numerous times, very helpful like. Its like anything in life, if used correctly its fine. I only borrowed what i knew i could pay back.

  • 221 cyprus // Jul 14, 2013 at 4:55 PM

    Billson mate,
That IS extortion and no worse than the Mafia rates:
“A Mafia loan shark usually will charge 6-10% per week compounded weekly. At first they will give you two weeks, for example you borrow $2000 you will owe them $2100 in 2 weeks. If you can only pay $600 then you will owe $1500 plus the 5% interest per week until paid, so if you make another $600 payment in 2 weeks you will still owe around $1100.”

If want a more in-depth academic definition go to

Best to turn a blind eye.

Anyway the Wonga discussion has been done here, no reason to regurgitate it. I for one, don’t like it.

  • 222 bills-son // Jul 14, 2013 at 4:58 PM

Scout – I agree that ManU would never have Wonga but you are wrong that they rely heavily on defaulting.

Chasing debt is costly and the small amounts Wonga lends seriously reduces their profit. Getting £37 a month for every £100 they lend from borrowers who pay on time is the most profitable loan by a mile.
