There was a report in the Daily Mirror over a week ago that Newcastle were willing to give Steven Taylor and £6M to get QPR’s Loic Remy.
Steven Taylor – going nowhere this summer
Now we wouldn’t put it past Harry Redknapp to ask for that deal, but there’s just no way Newcastle would let one of their two starting center-backs leave Newcastle so we get Remy into the club.
And there is news today in the local papers that Alan Pardew has no intention of letting Steven Taylor leave the club, and remember that late last season Alan was pushing for Taylor to be included ion the England squad.
And Steven made the squad but didn’t pick up his first full cap for England in the March World Cup qualifying games for Group H at San Marino (won 8-0) and Montenegro (drew 1-1).
And Newcastle need to keep some local home-grown players at the club, and that’s especially true since we seem to be losing a number of our English players this summer.
Danny Simpson has left for QPR, James Perch has signed on at Wigan and Steve Harper is having a medical at Hull City today,
Dan Gosling – Newcastle holding out for bigger fee
And it looks likely that 23 year-old Dan Gosling will sign on at Crystal Palace, but Newcastle are said to be holding out for a bigger fee from the newly promoted London club.
Newcastle agreed a £8M fee for Remy in January, so we’re not sure why there’s a delay in putting in a bid for the French International striker, since Alan Pardew has told the world that we are after both Remy and Aston Villa striker Darren Bent.
The saga to bring in a new striker this summer could continue for a while yet, but there’s no way we are going to lose one of our best defenders this summer.

Comment #3I agree that the delay by us and others in bidding for Remy may have something to do with the uncertainty surrounding his legal status.
However, I see no reason why we couldn’t put in an offer but subject to him not being convicted.

Comment #7Potski – I do agree. I’ve met him a few times and he is NUFC through and through! And true gent.
But unfortunately sub par for our needs this season. He won’t be shifted out, but don’t think we will see as much of him.
Marvs is looking amazing in training!!

Were any of those you have listed awaiting a legal judgement (like Remy) before we bought them or did they commit crimes whilst employed by Newcastle (Barton) or had they served their time like Duncan Ferguson? Big difference.

The NUFC board can screw our image quite easily, not sure they would think twice about a player who would do it too.

Comment #14Tudor – We both know where I work.
Whilst I know that makes me “less of a fan”, my family and friends are all Newcastle based.
I wish I had a club based itk. Although danno is just that person.
Always look forward to his posts.

Comment #15Torq…I must say I don’t agree with your assessment!
…all I think we need in terms of width is a forward (maybe two depeding on what kind of football Pardew wants to play) and a backup RB.
In terms of quality we to upgrade a bunch of players and send a handful outon loan.

Comment #18These Swap deals + cash? They are always in the press, but can anybody actually remember instances when it actually happens?
The only one that sticks in my memory is when ManU signed Andy Cole, and we got Keith Gillespie as part of the deal, and that was a long time ago.
Anybody remember another example?
Does it really happen in football today?

true the circumstances are a little bit different, but I just said newcastle like a bad boy.
as it stands he is innocent, my legal understanding would be that if they had sufficient evidence against him he would have been arrested, charged and bailed. None of those things have happened. he is awaiting confirmation that the ‘case’ will go no further. rape is such a hard thing to prove with no evidence as its one persons word against another.
personally I would sign him on the condition he is not convicted.
we (newcastle) cant complain, top class striker, possibly world class this time next year for only 6ish million and hes young and french.
what more could we ask for

Comment #31Jesp – You think we have enough creativity in our midfield?!
I certainly don’t. Marv and hba change a game on their own. Cabaye dips in and Out games.
I stated we need 2 forwards, (1 striker and somebody to create in our midfield. Plus a 3rd choice CB. You say 2 forwards and a RB.
So we arent too far apart, sir!

Comment #34Jesp – Problem is mate. Former colleagues of mine work at the club. And they told me how great he looks.
But had I come out and said that right away, it opens up into a so called ITK attack. When in fairness, they work in the medical field and purely tell me how sharp he is looking,
Lose – lose situation.
But all that aside, if we get him at his peak, and keep him fit, he can rival hba at Times!

How does that work? We pay hard cash up front normally. 6 months time (at least if it goes to a trial in the Crown Court) he gets convicted and sent down for 4 years, “Arry, can we have our money back?”
“No, my dogs looking after it in an offshore account. It’s all legal and above board, honest, guv.”
Forget Remy – no-one is going to pay millions for someone who could end-up in the slammer for years.
