We’ll Soon Know If Kinear Can Keep A Low Profile At Newcastle

9:27 am, Monday, July 15th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 40 Comments

Directors of Football are responsible for all the transfers into and out of a club, and are not very often interviewed, and the manager is the face of the club to the public and to the fans.

Joe Kinnear – can he be diplomatic?

And that’s how we’d like it to be at Newcastle, with Joe Kinnear in his new role of Director of Football, and Joe will be at his new desk at the Benton Training grounds this morning.

So it will be interesting to see what happens this week, as Joe tries to bring in some players to Newcastle and break our duck as being the only Premier League club who haven’t yet signed a senior player this summer.

We suppose it would be OK if Joe gives an interview to say nufcTV, if only to try to recover from the disastrous interview he gave to talkSPORT before he was even officially appointed into the position.

But that didn’t stop Joe from spilling the beans, or saying that Derek LLambias would be resigning, which turned out to be true.

But we cannot have Joe hogging the limelight at Newcastle, because that will cause too many problems – and it’s not as if Joe is a skilled person at giving interviews.

So if we don’t hear a peep out of Joe all week – we should probably take that as good news, and hope it continues.

We cannot stand too many more of his outlandish and inaccurate statements which bring bad publicity to both him and Newcastle United, the club he now represents.

Here’s hoping Joe can show some restraint and some diplomacy – amd keep quiet.

Comments welcome.

    repost Cisse Wonga

IF Real Madrid (BWin) signed Cisse, I doubt he would complain.
If he signed with MU and MU changed sponsor into Wonga, I doubt he would complain.

  • 2 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:33 AM

Morning! Same here mate. They were running the same stories but about Ba and Virgin when they became our sponsors. Lazy journalism.

If Cisse or the club confirm this publicly, then I will state an opinion, but until then I see it as either media mischief making, or someone from Wonga discreetly mentioning something to increase the brands publicity.

  • 3 Santon03 // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:35 AM

Simple solution is Cisse taken picture training in wonga kit

  • 4 Ben3arfa // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:35 AM

Kinnear is an arrogant wanker .

  • 5 WWYCD // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:36 AM

So our transfer window starts today eh? Better late than never I suppose…clowns

  • 6 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:37 AM

That will come naturally, either in training or in a game. No need to pander to the media by holding a publicity stunt to show him in the kit. Just fuels stories that there has been a problem.

I think, and hope our current team is set out like this

    ———————- Krul ———————–
    Debuchy – Mbiwa — Coloccini – Santon
    ————– Tiote —— Cabaye ————
Ben Arfa ——- Sissoko ——– Gouffran
    ——————— Cisse ———————–

Thats probably our strongest starting 11, possibly Gouffran/Marveaux debate or if not on from Tiote/Anita.

We cleary need a striker like winger, Remy mold would be ideal. Left sided is possible.

We could also do with Sissoko moving alongside Cabaye for a central attacking midfielder, creative and good in the air, would be ideal as already stated thousands of times Siem De Jong.

That should be our priority leaving our team looking like this (assuming Gosling has left)

    Krul, Elliot, Alnwick

Debuchy, RTaylor, STaylor, Mbiwa, Williamson, Colo, Santon, Haidara, Tavernier
    (Ferguson, Street, Good on loan)

    Tiote, Sissoko, Cabaye, Anita, Jonas
    (Bigirmana, Abeid on loan)

Ben Arfa, Obertan, Remy, Marveaux, Gouffran De Jong, Vuckic, Amalfitano, (Gosling if stays)
    (Sammy on loan)

    Cisse, Shola, (De Jong/Remy cover)
    (Campbell on loan)

Of course likes of De Jong and Remy can cover strikers role but thats the basis of starting positions if we were to acquire those 2 additions, and no more leaving.

    Pretty strong team.

Wonga has become so passé. It’s at least a dozen outrages ago by now.
Such is a Newcastle fans’ lot under Ash.

  • 9 gus3232 // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:39 AM

sure kevin nolan was 29 when we got rid of him,now darren bent ????/

  • 10 peasngravy // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:41 AM

I’d be well happy with Remy and De Jong, think they’d take us up another level and both are there to get if Mashley wants us to kick on

  • 12 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:42 AM

Anita in for Tiote, and swap Cabaye and Sissoko for me. Also, I’m not sure it makes any sense including Raylor. He won’t be named in the squad of 25 atthe start of the season, and possibly won’t be added at during January depending on how his rehab is going.

Amalfitano and Abeid have both been told to look for new clubs, and I am fully expecting Shola to move on.

  • 15 Jamseyd24 // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:46 AM

Why does everyone keep mentioning De Jong???? I have not once seen or heard of us linked with him, I personnally think you are dreaming if you think he will come to us. Dont get me wrong I would love to see him but doubt it.
what do you think the chances are of us doing some business this week?? somebody give me some news to lift my mood. lol

  • 16 jeff // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:47 AM

  • 21 John Tudor // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:53 AM

kinnear only cut short his holidays 1 in then he is off again

  • 22 bollance // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:53 AM

    On Wonga

This is another publicity stunt from the club. It gets the club and Wonga in the papers.

At the end of the day Wonga operate a function of a bank in lending money paid back with interest. I did not see Cisse complain about wearing Virgin Money on his chest.

  • 23 Jamseyd24 // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:53 AM

Jeff, What can Tomkins offer that Taylor or even Williamson cant give us already. He cant get on the Westham team so why would he be good enough for us??

  • 24 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:54 AM

Yo…if Joke is back from his exile that is! Has he even been seighted yet?

Guys we should be lucky if we sign Bent, Gomis and that Portuguese CB 😉 Don’t get your hope up.

I think last year’s transfer window will outshadow this one for sure! The first signing of Joke as DoF has already craped it up 🙁

Next signing will be Bent for £8M on £75k a week 😉 lol

  • 25 jeff // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:56 AM

westham have collin and reid.there easily better than taylor.tomkin is a ball playin centre half.taylor is a hoofer extravagant who throws himself around like a sack of potato.tomkin is disciplined.taylor is not.tomkin can slot into dm if we need him to.imagine taylor at dm.taylor cannot win an offensive header to save his sorry arse.tomkin can,hes taller and more mobile and faster enough.

    is that enough jam?

  • 26 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:57 AM

tads…the last I heard was that Palace had not even bid for him yet; only enquired about him!

…would think the asking price is a stumbling block (even though the Zaha money should be plenty) lol

  • 27 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:58 AM

I’d take Tomkins if he is for 3/4 million. A utility player that is a better football player than Perch ever was. An upgrade on last season. He is a better centre back than Willo, and probably better/same level as Tayls. Can play either full back and has done in the Prem as well as a holding midfielder. 5million plus is just too much money though. So if that is the price, move on to next target.

  • 28 WWYCD // Jul 15, 2013 at 9:59 AM

Don’t worry mate the press conference to announce he discovered a new land and named it Kinnear-land will be within the hour

  • 29 John Tudor // Jul 15, 2013 at 10:03 AM

    when will it end

  • 30 jayphoto // Jul 15, 2013 at 10:05 AM

Hate to say it but i agree with Jeff! Tomkins is a better player than taylor! Hes much more of a footballer, think tayls would excel at a palace, cardiff or Hull but his distribution is shocking and alot of the time his positioning is all wrong! Hes not a terrible player but hes nowhere near the quality of colo and i think MYM has the attributes to keep him out of the side! The downside of tompkins (and bent) is that if pardew signs them theyll be the first names on the team sheet coz hel want to prove a point! Did the same with obertan and ryan taylor at left back couple of seasons ago despite a string of awful performances

  • 31 GeordieDan // Jul 15, 2013 at 10:05 AM

I thought Kinnear Land was based in Orlando Florida already?

Or is it Kinnear World? I always get the 2 mixed up! 😉

  • 32 pawl250 // Jul 15, 2013 at 10:07 AM

    Lilongwe Geordie

I agree with you, Tomkins albeit is not an amazing world class player he is better than Perch, but had the same versatility.

I also agree he is the same if not better than STaylor, yet younger. For 4 million I would take him, but not sure if I would pay 5 million or over…..

7 million is too much, but shows West Ham value him some what for a reason!

  • 33 plana // Jul 15, 2013 at 10:07 AM

I hope common sense prevails and Kinnear, tells Pardew, Bents, not signing. The player is 29, not able to play with a strike partner so we would have to play a five man midfield. No we need strikers who are mobile and can play the 442 formation. Bents not the player for NUFC.

  • 34 pawl250 // Jul 15, 2013 at 10:09 AM

If Cisse leaves, which I dont think he will, we need more strikers. We are talking 3 or 4 in the same window!

Doubt he will leave over a sponsorship though, think this is just papertalk and blind panic from fans attempting to cause smoke without the fire.

  • 35 potski // Jul 15, 2013 at 10:17 AM

Some of you guys just don’t get that some people can have values, that they keep largely to themselves until they are pushed past a certain limit. Virgin, reputable, honest company with significant roots in the local economy. Wonga, new company, unscrupulous, extortionate rates of interest, illegal in many companies.

BTW they do have banks in Muslim countries, and a number of Western banks both operate in those countries and offer services to Muslims in UK etc that are compliant with Islamic beliefs. It’s even possible that Cisse has an account with Virgin to which his wages are paid by the club, and he has a cheque book and debit card from them, or one of the other high street banks. To pretend that this company are identical in all respects to Wonga is just so wrong. Wonga are not a bank!!

So stop this nonsense, “He never had a problem with Virgin, so why the issue now?”

  • 36 viv // Jul 15, 2013 at 10:20 AM

It should be a laugh, two massive egos that think they are great football managers. Pardew and Kinnear swapping insults with each other about who is the greatest when really they could’nt find another job in football. Its only the Puzzle factory, that is Newcastle United, that would entertain these two chancers.

If we don’t hear a peep out of Joe all week – we should probably take that somebody’s sewn his gob up!

  • 38 Sav // Jul 15, 2013 at 12:11 PM

Honesty, Modesty, Dignity, Diplomacy, Judgement have already been crossed off the list of qualities JFK may have been able to bring to the club.
Frankly, as he’s not picking the team and he’s not replacing Carr as chief scout, I don’t know what else he is expecting to contribute. We’ll see…

  • 39 Hughie_Gallacher // Jul 15, 2013 at 1:09 PM

Now that the role of sporting director at PSG is free after Leonardo’s resignation,, I’m surprised Joe hasn’t put his name forward. After all, he is supremely intelligent and probably the best D of F ever.

This seasons kit will be the first one ever that i don’t buy. i would never promote loan sharks because that’s what they are, the same as i would never buy a repossessed house, i would never prey on the unfortunate, morals that i will die with, those that promote these leaches have no morals, and i find them creepy. I have never been bullied (maybe as a small child), i live by a set of values that i will not break, because that’s what i choose of my own free will, i sent this seasons kit money to bobby’s charity, that made me feel better, I’m quite tough so no one can hurt me, but i do feel the pain of others.
