Manchester United Interested In Newcastle Midfielder

8:54 am, Wednesday, July 17th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 37 Comments

It seems that David Moyes, the new Manchester United boss wants more creativity and strength in the United central midfield, which is why he is currently after Cesc Fabregas of Barcelona, the former Arsenal midfielder.

yohan cabaye i can't hear you

Yohan Cabaye – Manchester United calling

And the news is they have bid big money for Cesc, said to be around £26M, and the Premier League Champions seem confident they can get the Spanish International to Old Trafford.

And it would even seem to be a good move for the player, who has lots of experience in England’s top league with Arsenal.

And Everton’s Fellaini is reported by the Daily Star to be next on the list if the Red Devils cannot get Fabregas, and then – if reports are to be believed, they will turn to Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye.

The fact that Barcelona have just turned down the Red Devils £26M bid, makes their interest in Cabaye a little greater, you would think.

French clubs are already said to be interested in getting 27 year-old Cabaye this summer, with PSG manager Laurent Blanc particularly keen on the French midfielder.

But Cabaye will not come cheap, and although he is third on the Red Devil’s shopping list, he will not come much cheaper than Fabregas.

And we think Mike Ashley would sell Cabaye this summer, but only for around £25M cash, for the player we paid around £4.3M to Lille for two years ago.

That’s a good indication of just how valuable Chief Scout Graham Carr is for the club, when we can make a profit of almost £21M on a player in just two short years.

That’s if we sell him, and a club is willing to cough up £25M for the 22 times capped French Intentional, who has improved tremendously on Tyneside.

If that happens then  we’d have to quickly bring in a suitable replacement.

Comments welcome.

3rd choice? Pfftt. P*ss off Moyes.

All together now, one, two, three…

    “Don’t sell Cabaye, Yohan Cabaye

I just don’t think you understand

That if you sell Cabaye, Yohan Cabaye

You’ll have a riot on your hands”…”unless it’s for silly money and you re-inevest it on more playeeeeeerrrrssssssaaaah.”

Yeah, it’s been tweaked a little.

    Nut meg, (Re post)
According to lots of reports one of his biggest problems was that his attitude stinks. He has thrown toys out of the pram at most clubs he has been at if he isn’t an automatic choice. Lots of stories came out re him not putting the effort in in training last year once he was dropped, and stories of tardiness and poor attitude were all knocking about.

As for if our scouts have looked at him, I have no idea. We don’t have a huge scouting presence in the UK, most is done by coaching staff and management. I’d imagine if we had been watching him it would have been Carver/Stone/Pardew doing it. Although I don’t think he was heavily involved at development level so not sure where you could see him in a match situation.

  • 20 John Tudor // Jul 17, 2013 at 9:08 AM

but stumbling block is the wages Rooney would love to get what Cabeye is on.

  • 21 JAMSHA // Jul 17, 2013 at 9:08 AM

    Charlie in the Gallowgate

i rather go for nani + Hernandez insted of getn one player… or Hernandez + Smalling… defence prob shortd n striker to

  • 22 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 17, 2013 at 9:10 AM

Rooney and Nani? Even Hernandez would probably want too much in wages for us to sign!

More realistic to take Powell, and maybe there young winger, Adnan. Smalling wouldn’t be available, Evan’s maybe.

  • 23 JFK junior // Jul 17, 2013 at 9:10 AM

    Blah blah blah…

    Boring, regurgitated rubbish!

blew newcastle never make statements, unless it suits them

  • 30 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 17, 2013 at 9:17 AM

    On a serious note,

Is anyone in hear overjoyed with the Bent signing?

Or just happy to get someone in?

  • 31 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 17, 2013 at 9:22 AM

If they want Cabaye – why not give it ago with Rooney. Yeah wages would be a problem but just think of the shirt sales – make Wonga’s day

  • 32 John Tudor // Jul 17, 2013 at 9:22 AM

bent no thanks, shola all day long than bent

  • 33 iamnufc // Jul 17, 2013 at 9:32 AM

Prodigy- I am quite open to Bent joining us. Has a decent record and good back up to cisse. With that said we still need another attacker who can play up wide or in behind the main striker

  • 34 iamnufc // Jul 17, 2013 at 9:33 AM

I don’t see many other strikers of bent’s qualify willing to join us to play back up to cisse

  • 35 lesh // Jul 17, 2013 at 10:07 AM

Ibizatoon…. Unfortunately, the way those papers’ messages are framed, they do register with the less discerning ‘reader’. Such subliminal brainwashing or conditioning forms opinions sad to say.

  • 36 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 17, 2013 at 3:08 PM

Why pay £17m for Rooney when we can get Mauro Zarate for free? I’d take £25m for Cabaye.

    Benteke – £18m
    Zarate – Free
    Siem De Jong – £9m
    Alderweireld – £6.5m
    Remy – £8m
    Mcmanaman – £6m

    Cabaye – £25m
    Obertan – £2m
    Gosling – £1.5m
    Williamson – £1.5m
    Shola Ameobi – £1m
    Tavernier – £1m
    Amalfitano – £1m

    Net spend = £14.5m

    Job done.

  • 37 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 17, 2013 at 3:13 PM

Mcmanaman, Ben Arfa, Marveaux, Gutierrez and Zarate is good competition on the wings. Ben Arfa, Zarate and Marveaux can also play in the attacking midfield role.

We do have too many midfielders at the club. Too many average one’s

We’d have Zarate, Remy, Cisse, Benteke and Gouffran competing for the striking spots. That’s great competition in my opinion.
