With the excellent display last night from some of you youngsters and fringe players at Motherwell, the spirits have been lifted a little on Tyneside, and they will be lifted even further if Joe Kinnear can bring in our first signing by the weekend.
Joe Kinnear – moving in for Darren bent?
Things must be going on behind the scenes on the transfer front, because Alan Pardew says he’s expecting a signing while the team is in Portugal for the next week, at a training camp at the Braga SC facilities.
This is what Alan told the press last night:
“I would expect to be down the road with a transfer when we are in Portugal. I am hoping that Joe and Lee Charnley, the club Secretary get something over the line.”
And it’s been good that Joe Kinnear has been quiet since he’s been on Tyneside since Monday.
There should be very little said in the press by a Director of Football, so fingers crossed that things have gone well for two days (wow), since Joe has been doing his job in Newcastle – we hope it stays that way and Joe keeps on the quiet side.
And Kinnear stayed in Newcastle last night in a bid to finalize a deal with Aston Villa for striker Darren Bent, but we wonder if the fee and his wages will be within the range that Newcastle are willing to offer?
We think Darren would be a good acquisition, because he’s a natural goal-scorer, but we also need a younger striker brought in this summer, and if that’s Loic Remy so be it, even though he turned us down in January.
It does seem that Bent is who Newcastle want to bring in this week, so we hope we can be successful, but why we are also not bidding for Loic Remy at the same time?
Newcastle will be taking the full first team squad to Portugal today, and it will include Senegal striker Papiss Cisse and Yohan Cabaye.
We hope that Cisse can quickly work out the problem of being unwilling to wear the Wonga logo on his shirt – that’s a problem that has to be solved rather quickly this week.
