Newcastle In Double Talks For Two Strikers In France

The Shields Gazette are reporting tonight that Newcastle are in talks with Lyon for their 27 year=old striker Bafetimbi Gomis, and that seems to be in addition to having approached Marseilles for their 27 year-old striker Andre-Pierre Gignac that we reported earlier today.

batefembi gomis

Bafetimbi Gomis – Newcastle negotiating with Lyon for striker

The Sun reported yesterday that Aston Villa Villa boss Lambert is willing to pay out £7M for Bafetimbi Gomis, who Newcastle bid £10M back in the summer of 2008 when Kevin Keegan was manager, and Gomis was still at Saint Etienne.

But it seems that Newcastle are also in for Gomis as the Lyon owner, Jean-Michel Aulas, has confirmed via his Twitter account that Newcastle and Villa are in talks with Gomis.

The owner was asked if both Aston Villa and Newcastle United were in talks regarding Gomis, as he said:

“Yes, it is not incorrect.”

In other words it is correct, and it’s not the first time we’ve been linked with Gomis this summer.

So it seems that Newcastle are making moves for two strikers, although we don’t know if this means that Newcastle have ended their interest in both Darren Bent of  Aston Villa and QPR’s Loic Remy.

But it does seem that Joe Kinnear is negotiating with both Marseilles and Lyon for a striker.

Lyon are short of money, and since Gomis’ five year contract runs out next year, when he will become a free agent, they would prefer to sell him this summer so they get a fee for him.

But the good news is that Newcastle definitely seem to be moving for a couple of decent strikers, and there’s a good chance that Newcastle can get a striker in over the next few days.

And if Cisse leaves over the Wonga dispute, it could be that Newcastle bring in three strikers this summer, and maybe one of them will not even be French. 😀

And of course Newcastle will have money they receive for Cisse if he is sold, but we still cannot believe that all of this will end up in the Senegal captain having to leave the Tyneside  club.

We hope that doesn’t happen.

Vydra banged in 25 goals (thereabouts) didn’t he?

    €8M

Deano – I stated on here late last night that I was told Bent will be signed within 24hrs.

Never claimed to be ITK but I know a man!

Pardew said he is hoping we will have signed someone before we get back from Portugal right? So surely we should start bidding soon :S

No way we’ll be getting all 3 strikers, therefore I reckon Gignac is a contingency for Gomis and Bent is nailed on. Not excited in the slightest regarding Bent but we need depth and if he’s coming for that reason and we also bring in Gomis, we’ll be ok up top.

Unless of course we’re looking at all 3 due to Cisse being on the move? In which case Bent would be his replacement and Gomis and Gignac the extras? Again I’d be slightly concerned with the amount of French players… Massive potential for cliques if things don’t go our way next season, which under Pardew’s stewardship, is likely.

I’d take them in this order:

    1. Bent
    2. Vydra
    3. Remy
    4. Hooper
    5. Gomis
    6. Anyone but Gignac
    7. Gignac

These 2 are not the players our team need.

Our set up, current team, recent form and shabby tactics MUST prove to Ashley and JFK that these aren’t the players we need. We need a goal scorer who will also give Cisse reason to perform each week. We need someone who is tenacious and proven. We need someone that will generally frighten and intimidate the likes of Chelski, Arsenal, Manure’s defence line. We need a big signing as opposed to replacements for the departed. If we get rid of a top player (Ba, Jose, Nolan) then we must recruit someone in the same position who is just as good or better. Not just an adequate replacement!!!

What the fuk is going on ‘man – hopefully smokes and mirrors in the same way Cisse arrived but I’m starting to believe Carr is no longer listened to and JFK and Fat mike have some sort of board game in which they smoke cigars, drink cognac and pick any CF who was born of this earth

Vydra couldn’t cut it at udinese and has scored a few goals in championship. No way would he be as effective as Remy who’s proved he can score in prem

Ideally we’ll sign de jong. Either siem our luuk.

I’d say two from bent, Remy, Ben yedder and Austin would be decent.

Gomis is too much like kenwyne Jones, I would even take gignac over him.

    Can’t we get gameiro!!

@sazzer aub had a running start. He took 3.70 seconds to run 30m with a running start, Bolt took 3,78 from a standing still start. Bolts 30 between 30-60 probably makes fun of aubs time. Tho It would of been nice to have a player here that can run 30m in 4 seconds 🙁

Actually, help me out here. We are now negotiating with Gomis that’s right, but negotiating with Gignac is simply a guess. If we are negotiating with two French strikers, it will be Gomis and an unknown guy (better be Gameiro).

…. why not le Fondre and Hooper?

Some Toon fans have been conditioned to accept that some players would be acceptable in order to progress. We really need to accept that there is a level of players -whilst reasonably ok at what they do are not going to be world beaters -I’ve heard some daft suggestions:-
    Gervinho/Le Fondre/Puncheon/Sinclair to name but a few.
I really hope we are aiming our sights higher then the above.

gomis would be a great signing imo he’s the main striker who can replace cisse when he’s out or play along side him.

my striking targets would be :
    gamero
    gomis
    remy
    bent
    mike ashley
    gignac

Yeah he’s forgotten all the time. He will bang in goals if we can sort our winger problem out.

I see him as our quick alternative CF and decent LW back up in case of injuries.

    Tuff – spot on!

There is still some time before the window closes and although people wish for “anyone” over the line – we shouldn’t set our sights too low and wish for anyone. We have a brilliant squad but a small squad. We need players who fight and demand to be in the 11 and not happy to play for a “big club with a big stadium and phenomenal fans” we need fighters who want to come and have a crack at terrorising the best league in the world.

I just have a feeling Remy will come in and demand to have things his own way.

He’d disrupt the squad, same as Ba at the start of last season demanding to play through the middle.

Remy could turn out to be as much bad as good.

    @25 toon

gomis is pretty random although not too great on power in his shots.
his goals/ assists add up to around 1 goal every 2 games and is a lot more physical than cisse but i would say slightly slower also.

Fair point tom, although HBA wanted to come here and did his utmost to make the move happen, whereas Remy is/was the total opposite.

Having said that… I’d still take Remy over these two lumps we have been linked with tonight.

I don’t understand why people are so against gignac, He isn’t a great striker and wouldn’t be my first choice but I would have him over bent. Plays direct football so would suit pardew. And out of all the players I have heard on here, he now seems a reasonable option:
    PEA gone
    Bony gone
Gameiro as good as gone (away to seville)
Bent too old and injury prone
    Remy may be banged up
Vydra we haven’t been linked with (as far as I’m aware)
Hooper would be good but looks qpr set
