Things are not too great at Newcastle at the moment, with the lack of new players coming through the door this summer, and the Cisse – Wonga affair looking more than a little serious at the moment.
Paul Dummett – the star man at Motherwell
But as we saw on Tuesday night, Newcastle results can start to turn things around at the club, and certainly we were a little surprised the lads looked so good at Motherwell.
Yes, we know that pre-season results don’t usually mean too much, but a win is a win, and wins lift the spirits of Newcastle fans, whoever we beat, as we saw after the lads’ fine display in Scotland.
It will only take a couple of wins and a couple of good displays in Portugal for things to start looking a lot better at Newcastle, by the time the lads return next Wednesday.
And the positive thing on Tuesday night was that two youngsters took the honors with both Haris Vuckic and local lad Paul Dummett playing very well, and manager Alan Pardew thought Haris Vuckic was just great on his return from his serious ACL knee injury.
And Pardew thought that Paul Dummett was the Man of the Match, and the local lad has also been impressing in training, and may be kept on Tyneside for next season, if his good form continues this summer.
We were in a much worse position four years ago after our relegation, when the newspapers were predicting we would drop down the leagues just like Leeds United had done previously.
But that didn’t happen and by the end of August things were looking good, and we had won five of our first six games and drew the other one at West Brom, under interim manager Chris Hughton – and the rest is history – very good history.
So the same thing can happen this summer, and all Newcastle need to do is keep winning and the current negativity can be washed away.
It’s simple when you get really down to it – just keep winning. 😀
Wonder how Joe Kinnear’s doing on the transfer front?

Comment #83HBA will wear the Wonga shirt, Tiote will wear the Wonga shirt so why is Cisse kicking up a stink?
Could it be that a) he’s not kicking up a stink and the media are making it up or b) he’s not happy at the club and is using the Wonga shirt as a way to force out a move?
Either way, it would have little or nothing to do with the sponsorship.
I don’t like the regime but let’s not be ridiculous here.

Comment #84If Ashley wants Pardew out then simply pay him off and move on as trying to force him out will ultimately kill us as a football side, he was the one who was stupid enough to offer the 8 year deal then he should be the one to make amends and stump up the money

Comment #85John Tudor – Do you have a short memory span? As you commented yourself on Kinnear not being there! And his remit was also to oversee the development of the youth players as far as I recall

Comment #86Wonga is a perfectly legal company. They have high intrest rates because their loans are high risk.
Dont give me the “they are hoping u cant pay back” bullcr4p
Every company that gives u money are hoping you dont pay back Asap. That includes credit cards and banks. Even phone companies hope you go over your limit. Are those 3 corrupt as well?
Muslims belive profiting from loans is wrong? So how come their banks are still in buisness?
Cisse thinks its immoral? Yet gets paid 50grand a week for kicking a ball around a park and thinks thats fair?
He wants a charity so we should back him? You realise that wonga paid 24mil for 4 years and will want the max amount of advertising right? Cisse the goalscorer will most likely be the player on the pictures, without the wonga logo 2 things will happen
1) less advertisment
2) when someone asks why isnt he wearing Wonga, people will answer “because its a immoral company bla bla bla” which is bad advertisement for wonga.
If cisse doesnt want to wear the wonga shirt he should pay them the money they will lose from advertising. Then we will see how much he beliefs really matter…. (Cause he will say no and carry on crying about it until he gets what he wants)

Comment #87Nufc82. I support the club, the team. I won’t make any difference to me if Cisse stays or goes, I will still support Newcastle.
As for company names on shirts, that doesn’t bother me either.
What is needed to deal with pay day lenders is a change in the law. I would suggest that if you object to them so much and you really want to make a difference you establish a protest group, and lobby your MP for a change in the law.
I too would not blame Cisse for wanting to leave but his chosen method to force a move I’m afraid I do blame him.

Comment #88I understand that there was an incident today in Portugal when the Toon team bus was travelling from the hotel to the training ground in Braga.
Officials on the coach noticed that the coach was being followed a young man who was running alongside the coach. Officals were concerned about this and believed that “the runner” might be a trouble maker and cause problems. The officials contacted the police to report the incident -and just as the coach arrived at the stadium the police pounced. The young man was sprayed with CS gas and bitten by a police dog before being thrown into
the back of a police van and taken to the local lock up.
Later, the young man, Hoolio Geordio, who was wearing an NUFC top was released from police custody and had this to say to awaiting reporters.
” I only wanted autograph I Toon fan – I watch Sky News and see Vietnam boy chasing Gooner bus. I think
I do same and meet players but I am gassed and bitten by dog -the policia they beat me up. I no longer Toon fan
but Gooner fan, Percy out”.

I had to check Harford’s wikipedia page to get an insight. Played for Wimbeldon and us in his career. The thing that threw me was it stated he signed as 1st team coach for Milwall about 3 weeks ago, i found it strange as the person who told my colleague is very high up so i’m slightly confused with that one.
Like i say i pass on the words i hear whenever i do for something to talk about

Comment #93I just cannot believe its nearly the end of another working week and we still havent had as much as a sniff of a transfer!!!
Cisse is going no where this is a smoke screen by the club to keep our minds of lack of transfers. I work in Iraq and I have asked many off my Iraqi colleges and they say yes it is against their believes but the same applys should it be Wonga or Virgin 1% or 2000%.

Comment #94Can everybody please drop any belief or assumption this is a Wonga issue for Cisse, please?
In simple terms – the deal was announced in October. It has been over a month since the season finished – do you honestly reckon Cisse thought he would just stay behind from the pre-season training to negotiate not wearing a branded shirt?

its not all about pace, in certain areas yes pace is good, technical quality is also needed, walcott is a prime example, he had raw pace but no end product hes now developed his game and uses both well, players who have lost pace develop their game and improve, haris is technically good and with games will improve although he does need to stay fit

Comment #97Wonga should have checked to see if any players would have a problem with them. They have no say in who plays and who doesnt.
The club should also have checked to see if any players would have issue.
Finally, this is not the first time something like this has happened. Kanoute had a blank shirt for similar reasons. Islam is like any religion, some are more devout than others so if tiote, hba are ok with it and cisse isnt, then so what. Live and let live.

Comment #102JB – my point was Vuckic doesnt need pace, hes got a clever footie brain. I think most managers would say every team needs a bit of pace, but its not essential. Pace is horribly over rated, gimmie a team of zidanes + pirlos over a team of walcotts + navas’s

Sssh. If he steadfastly stuck to his religious beliefs then he would not have wore the Virgin Money shirt, so pipe down.

If there is an issue stemming from Cisse’s camp regarding Wonga I do believe that he is merely using it as an excuse to force a move from the club.

His lack of pace is only a small issue as if he’s sharp enough on the ball he can get away with it the real issue is that he’s gonna potentially be playing in the most physical league in the world and the lad is made of glass, for a 20 year old he has missed a massive amount of time through injury and I think his game and physical attributes are better suited to the Spanish league rather than the Prem.
Would love nothing more than the lad to settle, get over his injury nightmare and be able to play week in week out and show what he can do but I highly doubt it

Is that supposed to imply that Navas is a poor player like Walcott? Navas is an excellent player, albeit not Zidane, Pirlo quality, but then again, not many players will ever be of that standard.

I’m not saying the media are simply making it up, I’m saying it is a possibility, if Cisse is making an issue of the Wonga thing then in my mind he is making up excuses to leave the club.
Also, I’m sure that Cisse wasn’t the only player not to make the trip, I’m pretty sure Bigi and a few others didn’t travel, yet the media aren’t saying they are looking to leave. Funny that eh?

The club should have checked if any player had a problem with the wonga deal?? Grow up man. They are payed to play football. If the player has a problem then he is the problem. Not the other way around. If he will not play then get rid. Yes This is a business and i Get more and more frustrated People dont seem to Get that. Should we have chosen a different sponsor is a different matter. For now Wonga IS our sponsor.

sorry i may be missing your point, his injuries have been strains and ligament injury not casued by playing in a physical league, i cant say ive seem him knocked off the ball? what i have seem is a technical player who knows the net is and can pass to a team mate which a lot of our players struggled to do last season, its like saying mata would struggle with the physical side of the league but a footballing brain helps read the game and know what you want to do before you get the ball rather than worry about using you pace to get out of trouble

Comment #116I wonder where Cisse keeps his £millions? If it’s in an islamic bank he’ll earn interest but they don’t call it that, they call it profit sharing where all customers share whatever the bank earns over-and-above its overheads whereas our banks offer a fixed percentage. It amounts to the same thing, if you leave money in then you’ll reap the benefit whatever it’s called! As has been pointed out many times, he happily wore the Virgin Money shirt! Would he have refused to wear the “Blue Star” shirt because Gazza is an alcoholic or any pharmaceutical company’s logo because of drugs? He’s being hypocritical or is being badly advised; he said nothing when Wonga were first introduced as sponsors but “jumped on the bandwagon” after fans started criticizing! Let him go!
