Reports In France That Newcastle Close To First Signing

5:57 pm, Thursday, July 18th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 308 Comments

There are reports coming out of France this evening that Newcastle have been in contact with Marseilles in a bid to bring French International striker Andre-Pierre Gignac to Tyneside.

Toulouse's forward Andre-Pierre Gignac c

Andre-Pierre Gignac – Newcastle in contact with Marseilles

Newcastle have been linked with this player earlier in the summer, but at that time the 27 year-old was looking to join a bigger club than Newcastle, which didn’t go down too well with the Geordie fans.

Everton are also thought to be considering a move for the 16 times capped French International, who moved to Marseilles from Toulouse back in 2010, and has played 101 times for Marseilles with 32 goals and 7 assists.

It had been thought that Director of Football Joe Kinnear would try to get Darren Bent into the club this week, but Newcastle may have turned to Gignac because Aston Villa could be playing hard-ball on the fee for the English International striker.

Newcastle are the only Premier league club not to have signed a senior player in the summer’s transfer window so far, and certainly manager Alan Pardew is expecting a new arrival soon on Tyneside.

Maybe it will be Gignac?

the 6’1″ tall Gignac started his carer back at Lorient in 2004, and has since played for Pau, Toulouse and Marseilles, and he has made 208 total appearances with 89 goals  29 assists in the French league.

Newcastle have also been linked with two other french strikers – Loic Remy of QPR and Bafetimbi Gomis of Lyon, with his French club wanting to sell Gomis this summer, before his contract runs out next year.

So its either this lad or Bent…

Good to see JFK is attempting to bring talent to the club… Atleast with wise there was a shred of hope that the player was good… with JFK.. you know your gonna be disappointed..

Two posts in a few minutes, Ed:)

Yes, there are at least seven different “schools” within Islam. There are also what are known as “Cultural Muslims are religiously unobservant, secular or irreligious individuals who still identify with the Muslim culture due to family background, personal experiences, or the social and cultural environment in which they grew up.”

So no real difference with Christians, where they can’t agree on all religious matters, and there are also some who would state officially they are Christian but don’t go to any church etc.

There are also clearly cultural differences. Someone in Saudi Arabia might for instance take a different view on many aspects than Muslims who have grown up in the Western world.

Cisse for example is from Senegal, which was a French colony. Although the majority of the population are Muslims they do not have a constitution based in Muslim teachings. They have normal banks and Cisse and his community will probably have wide acceptance of banks like Virgin Money (Northern Rock as was), Barclays etc

What they don’t have is people who charge interest at over 1,000 % APR.

I really don’t see how anyone can think Virgin and Wonga are in the same league?

I don’t know if Senegal has any legal restrictions on usury (immoral, excessive rates of interest), but many countries do, and surprisingly perhaps this includes many Western countries. Canada for instance has a clear statement in it’s Criminal Code that 60% interest is a “criminal interest rate” and anyone charging that is liable to up to 5 years imprisonment or $25,000 fine.

  • 23 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:18 PM

No one is comparing the two on a moral level, ethical level or even on a business level.

The comparison is that they are both money lenders who charge interest, something that Muslims oppose.

The comparison stems from the principle that Cisse wore one shirt, so why would he not wear another.

You seem like a smart guy, is that simple point really lost on you?

Of course it is not this simple, but I don’t see where your confusion comes from.

  • 24 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:19 PM

Why are we not after Adam Le Fondre… he would be better value for money compared to Bent and gignac

Anyone else fed up of reading about these Religious fanatics on a football blog? Seems to me they can use Religion, to blag their way out any situation they do not agree with.

  • 26 Toon1978 // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:21 PM

Hmmmmmmm, not so keen on Gignac.

  • 27 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:21 PM

As much as I would be deflated with the signing of Bent, I don’t see how people can say that Adam le Fondre would be a better signing.

Yeah scored a decent amount of goals for Reading, from the bench. So he must have done something wrong to not be able to make the starting XI of a relegated team.

On top of that he seems like a real arrogant A-hole, so for 5m I think I’d take Bent…if it was one or the other.

  • 35 p // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:24 PM

@23 agree, interest is interest from an Islamic point of view from what I gather.

Once you get in to the rate of interest, that become a personal ethical judgement.

I for one, think that they should not be able to charge that rate of interest.

On the other hand, if they were not, they might not make those loans and perhaps the loanees would go to back street unregulated loan sharks who may break legs if they do not get there money.

It’s a similar argument to abortion, drugs and prostitution. You may not like it morally but people will do it whether it is legal or not.

I think if Cisse is not prepared to play with Wonga, the same should have applied to Virgin Money.

Gignac must be a Carr choice as JFK will have never heard of him before.
Must be after a hold up type forward to pair with Cisse n Bent and knowing Ashley whoever is cheaper and will take the least wage will end up here between Gignac and Gomis.
Spoke with Yven Moyo in January and he thought we were after Gomis back then but it doesn’t make me an ITK

I know religion has crept on to this blog because of the Wonga row but I am treating this Cisse/Wonga row as either a media-made storm in a tea-cup or Cisse disingenuously trying to force a move out, either way religion is not a part of it as far as I am concerned.

With that in mind, can we keep religious beliefs off this blog as there is no surer way to start a dispute than to bring religion into the equation.

You would have to ask Cisse that. But I provided you with the reasons why I think he can clearly make such a distinction.

Like JFA says this is fundamentally a moral issue, but the teachings of the Qur’an reinforce that view. Mohamed spoke, as far as I can tell, from the point view of protection of the poor from exploitation by the rich. That’s something people of all faiths, and none (I am an atheist) can agree on, surely?

We have to keep the faith in Big Mike and Joe K. They know what is best for the club. They would not buy a dud. We have a small but top notch squad. If we can avoid injuries, I do not see any reason why Percy cannot guide us to 6th. With a lot of luck we might even nick 4th. I cannot wait for the season to start. Cisse and Gignac to start banging in the goals. No reason at all why they cannot score 40 between them. Jonas, Tiote and Kebab to supply the bullets.

Other clubs have ambition Newcastle United is all about making money. MA is obviously thinking we spent in Jan so we’ve spent enough. A sale of a first team player might free funds for a new one.

  • 52 archaeomag // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:37 PM

    Well put.
The issue is not money lending but usery!
Christians were not allowed to be involved in usury till the 15/ 16 th century; that is why Jewish people were traditionally involved in finance.

  • 53 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:37 PM

Like I said, if Cisse wants to move I think he is manipulating this situation to force a move, so the religious point is moot from where I’m standing.

This begs the question, are moral objections enough to demand your employers make arrangements that pertain to you as an individual? Cisse is being a bit selfish if this is what he is doing.

  • 54 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:37 PM

Adam le Fondre is an impact player and can get goals off the bench. Bent can start games and go missing for 85 minutes… we already have Strolla for that…

Compare Bent’ and Le Fondre’s stats from last season. It is clear as day why Le Fondre would be a better acquisition then Bent.

Would he be the best? No. But he is better then the garbage Kinnear is supposedly after.

Le Fondre scored 12 in 34 games, a decent return. Bent scored 3 in 16 in a team where he clearly wasn’t wanted.

Added that Bent has much more PL experience and an excellent goal scoring PL record I would go for Bent if 5m was the asking price.

  • 61 2_goal_tino // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:43 PM

The following are a series of posts I wrote yesterday about the Islamic precedent for Cisse’s standpoint. Chose to read them or not, I am not choosing one side or the other but thought I would repost them for a few people’s information. The point of them is that whilst riba (interest) is unacceptable according to Islamic teachings only some people choose to abide to this strictest ruling. Given the inability to avoid interest in the modern era, numerous Islamic scholars (and subsequently Muslims) abide by a more nuanced view which comes down to the basic principle of the initial ruling – not to make money from people’s hardship. Cisse’s decision not to wear Wonga but wear Virgin and Northern Rock is not necessarily a contradiction of his Islamic beliefs and there are numerous Islamic scholars who support his viewpoint. I live in Saudi Arabia and have discussed this topic at length with my colleagues, friends and Arabic teacher – all of whom say that it is a personal standpoint.

    194 2_goal_tino // Jul 17, 2013 at 3:55 PM
Can I just clarify the Islamic difference between Wonga and Virgin or Northern Rock. In the strictest sense they are the same, all riba (interest) is haram (forbidden) and people should do their utmost to avoid it. However, given the prevalence of interest in modern life there has now become a differentiation in the meaning. Indeed, Islamic banking services have created many ways of avoiding riba but still essentially charging interest in the same way as conventional banks. For example, if you were to get a loan to buy a car from an Islamic bank essentially what happens is they buy the car outright and then agree to sell it to you but for a higher price, which you can pay in instalments. This is deemed trading rather than interest.

Given the prevalence of things such as interest in modern times it has become harder and harder to stick to the religious ruling of avoiding it entirely. Instead now the general opinion is that what is truly haram is when the loan redemption will be felt very heavily by the borrower but that they are in a severe situation which means that they are desperate for funds. The differentiation between this and other forms of interest is that it specifically targets those who are most vulnerable and the level of loan repayment is so great that it can cause severe problems for the borrower.

Of course, this opinion is entirely subjective and as such what one person considers to represent excessive interest levels that may cause harm may not be considered the same by others. It is this rather murky but quite significant differentiation which I believe is behind Cisse’s stance.

    234 2_goal_tino // Jul 17, 2013 at 4:41 PM
The thing about religion is that it is an entirely personal matter. It is not acceptable to say that this stance is contradicting his previous decision to wear virgin shirts for the reasons I outlined in my previous post. I live in Saudi Arabia and have travelled to every Middle Eastern country and an array of other Islamic countries whether they be Sunni or Shia; salafi, deobandi or ahl al-Hadith. There is no one type of Islam it is incredibly diverse. There is a vast difference between Muslims in Lebanon and those in Saudi Arabia, imagine how large the difference is between Bangladeshis, Indonesians and Ivorians! There is absolutely no one Islamic ruling on this issue and Cisse’s standpoint is entirely valid and as I have outlined in my previous post there is a definite differentiation between standard interest rates and more exorbitant ones – whether an individual chooses to adhere to the strictest ruling or this more nuanced one is entirely personal but both are equally supported by Islamic scholars.

    262 2_goal_tino // Jul 17, 2013 at 5:07 PM
    @Transfer Sage
First off to clarify it is not about money lending at all this is entirely acceptable, the issue is riba (interest ). It’s very complicated and nuanced but as I said before even Islamic Banks charge interest for all intents and purposes. However they get round the system by saying it is not riba but is in fact trading. There are similar ways to get round the prohibition on gambling. The vast majority of Muslims accept that it is almost impossible to avoid interest in some form or another these days, however decide to shift the parameters of the ruling. The ultimate meaning behind the original ruling is that it is not allowed to make money from other people’s hardship ie need for a loan. The reasoning amongst many nowadays is that the standard levels of interest are not deemed to necessarily cause hardship because they are relatively small. In contrast if the interest rate could cause harm, e.g with Wonga then it is unacceptable. I appreciate the nuances of the issue but hope this clears it up a little.

You really don’t help yourself. If he was indeed homosexual why would that matter? Or do you regularly judge people on characteristics they are born with?

If that is the case then perhaps you have more in common with the EDL than you first thought.

Ruddy- There are some things that are more important than even our football club.

potski- Having experienced the impact of the EDL march on Newcastle I can speak as I find.
The real division in the country as a whole is not between Muslims and the rest of us. It’s between the violent extremists of whatever persuasion and the vast majority of decent people of whatever faith or background. Let’s not lose sight of this.

Returning to football related matters I would welcome Ba back as he

Le fondre has had a half decent season from the bench, fair play to him. But bent has got so much experience, the reason he wasn’t playing last season was because he’d had an argument with tha manager. Bent was a class player and is still a good player given the right manager and right pre season. For 5 mil I’d happily have him. Get him to put his arm around some of our youngsters and he’d defibalty teach then a few things

  • 81 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 18, 2013 at 6:57 PM

Le Fondre – Younger, has not reached his prime.

Bent – old and passed his prime. Villa were fighting relegation, it doesn’t matter if your manager hates yours guts, if your good and can help the team survive you would be chosen. Ultimately survival > petty argument.

Fact of the matter is, Bent was not good enough to get into the squad and had a poor relationship with members of the staff…
Do we really want that at the club? No. We have enough clowns with JFK here.. we don’t need another.

@Luke, you must be joking right, that is hardly a fair comparison, given that Bent is the older of the two and would naturally have more experience. Did Cisse have PL experience before he came here? No. But he set the world alight with his impact.

It boils down to whether or not your good enough and can get goals. Bent clearly struggles to find the back of the net… he is like the poor man’s Fernando Torres… heaps of talent, was scoring left and right, couple seasons later and they are now nothing more then an overpaid, overpriced bench warmer.

We don’t need that kind of dead weight at the club. bring players that can make an impact… not some player whose 15 minutes of fame are long gone.

Yes but cisse was a quality player before he came to Newcastle… Look how many he scored inthe 2 seasons before he came here. Le fondre is not that good and he won’t become that good. Bent is certainly better then shola and will add some quality to te bench.

  • 91 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 18, 2013 at 7:05 PM

Both players are going to roughly cost the same, so lets look at some of the facts

    - Fall under the Homegrown rule
    - Both have experience in the PL

    Le Fondre:
    - Lower Wages
    - Possibly the cheaper option of the two
    - In form, was scoring goals for fun last season
    - Impact Player from the bench, something we lack in the striking department… Ameobi hardly makes an impact when he makes a rare appearance off the bench

    - Likely the more expensive of the two
    - Higher wages
    - Falling out with the manager at Villa
    - Struggled for goals when he started and when he came off the bench.
    - Older
    - More experienced in the PL
    - Experienced at an International Level
    - While at Sunderland was a threat in front of goal, his form has been in decline ever since.
    - Injury prone.

Assuming Cisse stays, Neither Le Fondre or Bent will become 1st or Second choice strikers, as Cisse and Goofy occupy those spots. I’d even go as far as to say that Bent would struggle to wrestle 3rd choice off Ameobi, given that they are both the physical type who struggle to make any real impact on a consistent basis.

Is bent really the better option, or are some of you blinded by the fact that he USED to be a top quality player?

Le fondre over Bent everyday of the week.

  • 92 Sazzer // Jul 18, 2013 at 7:07 PM

I don’t if it good or bad that you can’t choose more than 3 Newcastle players.

Then lets just say I’m glad your not in charge of transfers at Newcastle.

Might as well tempt Viduka back if we are after players past their prime.

Bent in my honest opinion = Waste of wages, waste of transfer money, waste of a good spot on the bench that could go to a player that actually possesses an iota of talent at present time.

Wanting a strong physical striker is all well and good. But actually get someone that knows where the back of the net is… not where the best spot on the subs bench is.

    Le fondre>Ameobi>bent>nobody.

  • 104 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 18, 2013 at 7:15 PM

He’s 29. Would probably cost no more than 5m and we have a wage cap that he would have to work within if he wanted to sign.

The man has scored goals at every single club he is in and would seriously challenge Goofy for 2nd ST spot and is 100x the player Shola is.

You’re letting your own personal opinion cloud your judgement. I’m not saying Le Fondre is a bad player, but I don’t see how a player with 1 season in the PL, scoring a few goals off the bench can be seen to be better than a player who has scored goals for fun for many PL clubs as well as internationally.

I think more will agree with me than you.

  • 118 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 18, 2013 at 7:23 PM

I can;t even begin to imagine how Bent will even Challenge Goofy for 2nd spot…

I base my judgement on recent performances, not past glory.

Yes, at one point in time, bent was setting the stage a light and scoring for fun. But that is the past. This is the present. At 29, he is hardly going to get any better, or get any faster.

He was at his prime when he was at Sunderland and has been declining in form ever since. The decline is hardly going to stop at Newcastle now is it.

What we should be after are players that still have the potential to improve and are currently in form. Le Fondre fits that bill. At 26, he still has room for improvement..

Everyone has their opinion and in mine, buying bent is the equivalent of flushing money down the toilet

  • 121 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 18, 2013 at 7:25 PM

Perhaps, but in comparison to Le Fondre I still think he is a much better player. He’s had a quiet season last season but his previous 2 seasons have been 1 goal in 2 games. That’s not just good, that’s great.

Maybe he isn’t of that standard any more but for 5m, surely he wouldn’t be a bad signing, although not an exciting one.

  • 122 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 18, 2013 at 7:25 PM

  • 131 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 18, 2013 at 7:33 PM

    Bent’s stats:

    38 apps 24 goals

    20 apps 8 goals

    Aston Villa

    16 apps 9 goals

    22 apps 9 goals

    16 apps 3 goals.

With the exception of last season where he had fallen out with Lambert, Bent has been fairly consistent given that he hasn’t played over 30 games in a few years.

I agree, that is why I’m against the idea of us signing him.

Despite the falling out between Bent and Lambert, if Bent was good enough, any sane manager would have started him. Villa were struggling and on the verge of relegation, it would not benefit either party for the club to be relegated. I’d have endured LLambias as our main striker if he was good enough and scoring goals in order to increase our chances of survival, despite how much I hate him.

At the end of the day, Bent did not have what it took to break into the villa squad.

Bent played 16 games last season, most of them from the bench. For a player with international experience I would think that the most likely explanation for this is a falling out between the player and manager rather than him not being good enough.

In 10 years time we will look back at this period and realize MA has been a total disaster who loves taking the mick out of the club and the people. Some plonkers claim he would not knowingly rubbish the club and his 200 million investment. Oh yes he would!!!! He is worth three thousand million. He is squirreling away loads of dosh(transfers and SKY money) and he will sell at a profit. Even if he lost 100 million (5% of his worth) it would be good value in his eyes for the misery and p..s take he is inflicting on the area. It is totally malicious and great fun. His ideal scenario is to sell the club for a profit (getting rid of the best players) the year before we get relegated. That would be worth a few beers eh Mike?

I think I might be in the minority when I say this lad is the ‘something different’ we have been looking for up top. I quite like him, I know there is better out there, but, if we keep Cisse then this is the type of player he will link up well with, or the alternative, which is if Cisse goes, then Campbell or possibly Bent would feed off him well. He might not score great goals or be the quickest player around but with his back to goal and holding up the ball he is actually very good. He is also very good in the air. Gignac excites me, these types of players are hard to come by, those that link the midfield to attack or at least hold the ball up until the midfield can support. Explosive off the last defenders shoulder type strikers ie. Cisse and Bent are actually a dime a dozen out there and easier to come by.

So for me Gignac is a no-brainer.

  • 183 pizzicatochan // Jul 18, 2013 at 8:46 PM

colwell, if Vuckic and the others could stay healthy, I think our squad is still stronger than the spenders. Vuckic is more of a number 10 then Ben Arfa in my mind. Instead, Ben Arfa should be playing a wide role.

  • 184 colwell // Jul 18, 2013 at 8:47 PM

All the guys saying Bent would be a good signing, does it not matter that he is obviously a complete tw@t?

Why is it that even though he scored goals at both Scum and Villa he was frozen out? He is lazy and hasn’t got his pace anymore.

  • 185 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 18, 2013 at 8:48 PM

    You tell him!!! ;)
Yeah you’d think the old ITK’s would have learned to be a bit more subtle rather than done deal!!!!

  • 186 GeordieDan // Jul 18, 2013 at 8:48 PM

Fair enough mate. To be honest I’d love to believe what you’ve said re: Remy and Bent but I’m beyond frustrated that NOTHING has happened yet.

I had my hopes momentarilly raised when you came out with your news about the deal being 99% done about fortnight ago and now I doubt pretty much everything I read.

Nothing personal mate. Just hoping for any glimmer of sanity breaking out at NUFC.

To paraphrase,”Its the hope that kills you”. :(

  • 187 colwell // Jul 18, 2013 at 8:49 PM

To be fair mate Vuckic has never really impressed me when he has played, and for him to stay fit would be an absolute miracle.

We have a good squad but we are not getting any stronger whilst the others are.

  • 194 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 18, 2013 at 8:53 PM

Would love for vuckic to come good but we have this discussion on here every pre season
We say this is his year he’s had time to recover he’s shaken off his injury and then bam, you see the headlines
” vuckic out for 6 months after drawstring snaps on his shorts ”
The lad has the potential but is made of glass
Sadly I don’t think he’ll shake his injury curse some things just aren’t meant to be!

  • 195 Toon_Tom // Jul 18, 2013 at 8:54 PM

I’d rather sign up TADS and J.Tudor than this ‘fella!

Terrible in front of goal, work rate = shit, no speed – but can hold the ball up – my conclusion > we already have Shola!!!!

This better not be thought of as Ba’s replacement.

Danno – how is Remy coming along – still negotiating, with no offer made, no personal terms discussed or wage demands?

  • 196 Ibizatoon // Jul 18, 2013 at 8:54 PM

Munster….Dare I say you miss reading the positive spin on things…even if you didn’t believe it? I’m taking a semi sabbatical, which ties in well with a hectic work schedule….I don’t appear to be missing too much though. Is that something I can thank the club for? Are they holding out on the new players for when I’m less busy? Top blokes wor Mike and Joe :)

As for the rest of you…Has everyone completely lost their mind? It seems the last week that almost everyone has forgotten Ed’s simple rules for the blog…nice to see respect is at it’s best….good old silly season.

Come on NUFC, give us a player, if you’re feeling really brave, maybe two?

  • 208 Noah Another Ameobi // Jul 18, 2013 at 9:01 PM

Cisse hasn’t pulled out of the Portugal trip, Newcastle United had already withdrew him from the squad travelling & the reason for this is to carry on negotiating regarding the sponsorship because the club, the PFA & the player can’t do this while he’s in another country especially when all parties want this resolved as soon as possible & there’s no point in Cisse travelling abroad to train by himself as he’s unable to wear the training clothing again due to the sponsors logo… The same was reported last week when it was stated he was made to train on his own when he returned on Friday, again not the case, he & a few other players(Cabaye, Santon & Debuchy) all arrived back a day earlier & instead of joining the squad did some light Gym work, Cisse was later in joining them because he attended another meeting earlier regarding the sponsorship

  • 219 Toon_Tom // Jul 18, 2013 at 9:08 PM

    Jazzy – spot on!

Due to our previous interest, talks and bid for Remy we should have made a per contract agreement on the last day of the season.

He won’t go down for that incident so that can’t be the issue. It’s a no brainer. Release clause in which he is worth and he looked good for QPR and has “prem experience” even tho only a few hours ;)

If the PEA malarkey is correct and we were willing to part with £15M – then throw 8M at QPR and give Carr an envelope containing £7M and his passport to go shopping.

Danno -Remy update ? Whether you are infact ITK or simply a hairy 39 year old virgin painting figures between writing your updates I honestly want to know the latest. I love the hope you give us – even tho only 1% of me believes your BS

My tuppence worth is that although we bid 15M for PEA is that we never had any intention of paying it as was proved with the Nzogbia bid and clubs must be getting wise to the fact that although we pay cash up front our negotiations must be getting tedious.

Krul, dont know much about Gignac but if he can hold the ball up and bring the midfield into play that is exactly the type of CF we need as you say.

We are hardly known recently for signing shyte players for big fees so I’ll trust Carr who will have watched him live umpteen time over fans who have only seen the highlights on youtube.

  • 264 drewcessford // Jul 18, 2013 at 9:59 PM

I’d take Bent for £5m simply as another option.

Don’t want Remy, he’s the kind of player to come in and cause a disruption amongst the squad.

    Gomis and Gignac are shite.

Siem de Jong is too good and too expensive.

How about Gary Hooper? QPR in talks for less than £5m, he’s english, has a good goals record, no PL experience but I thought he was very good against Juventus last year so he has shown he can do it in big games against big clubs.

  • 265 jazzyp // Jul 18, 2013 at 9:59 PM

I’ve always rated Hernandez. One of my favourite players in the Prem outside of Newcastle. Quick, audacious, goal poacher, skillful and knows where the back of the net is. And for a little chick pea he has scored a few headers in his career!

TADS – I’ve always banged on about him with friends and family. Love the type if player he is. I do believe he is underrated and underplayed with the Mancs and we would guarantee first name on the team sheet every week.

He will still probably be on £70K+ per week tho I’d imagine? (Someone will confirm)

  • 281 Sazzer // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:33 PM

  • 282 Toon_Tom // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:33 PM

Jazzy – the crazy thing is tho – you never quite know with Ashley or the Toon. We could come to the end if the window with no1, or just Bent, or Just Gomis – but a very small part of me still holds hope that Ashley/Carr – JFK (cringe) will pull out a big signing.

That’s the joys and nightmares of a toon fan unfortunately. However, where there is hope – there is also shattered dreams!

  • 284 Toon_Tom // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:36 PM

Sazzer – Real Sociedad want him signed I think

  • 285 scout // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:36 PM

Gervinho is worth a go on the left side

  • 286 scout // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:37 PM

I reckon the first signing will rock the blog
    In a good way

  • 287 Tayls // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:38 PM

    Hahaha the pudding! Love it

  • 288 drewcessford // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:38 PM

    Gervinho? No thanks.

Mertens – 10x better, similar transfer fee and cheaper wages.

  • 289 drewcessford // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:39 PM

Could always use Willo as a make shift centre forward.

  • 290 jazzyp // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:42 PM

    toon tom
im as miffed as the next fan at present wandering which way mashley and his cronies are taking nufc.
but it still hasn’t stopped me making the long trip up the a1 for most home games over the last 15 year. no matter which owner we have had in place

  • 291 jeff // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:42 PM

Willo as a striker? Lol no thanks. He cant even score when we always target him,to slow,no ball control. Terrible suggestion LMFAO

  • 292 nimo // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:44 PM

Funny thing with cisse is there’s more than 1 Muslim here benny and hairdryer noone else kicking a fuss, make of this what you will

  • 293 jazzyp // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:45 PM

mertens has gone to Napoli I think mate !!

  • 294 Toon_Tom // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:47 PM

Jazzy – agreed. I have threatened, joked and tried to convince myself to give up the ticket on many occasions but I know I would never do it!

  • 295 Ian Toon // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:49 PM

Ruddy– Thanks for the welcome wagon message. I am still far too busy enjoying my free time in a glorious summer to join you on here.

As i have repeatedly said what your all about is looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedy.

Ah crap I missed that one.

Suppose at least Napoli are in CL.

Not as bad as Bony signing for Swansea, I’d have taken him anyday.

  • 297 Goodfella // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:51 PM

    Scout 286

    That’s what I’m thinking (wishing) :)

  • 298 Sazzer // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:55 PM

    Anybody rate Marco Sau?
    12 goals – 37 shot 84 % shot accuracy last season.

Jonathan Schmid (French right midfielder playing in Germany)- 11 goals 44 shots 70 %

    Messi 130 shots 68 %

  • 299 Sazzer // Jul 18, 2013 at 10:57 PM

    Gignac impressive 105 shots

  • 300 Rooster // Jul 18, 2013 at 11:00 PM

Gomis is a class kid, after PEA went to Dortmund, he is next choice for me, scores goals left foot right foot good in the air and quick as you like and very good football brain, yes please but soon pretty please, I think we are all getting a wee bit agitated

Also would not have a problem with Gignac coming in either, he has been watched for a long time, was terrific last season for Marsaille, and knows Sissoko from his Toulouse days, owt to knock bloody Shola down the pecking order, that lad just has to go, but he will know doubt see out the last year of his contract, cant really blame him but enough is enough, Campbell has to come through for that third spot if we sign a striker, and if CISSE goes then we need two strikers, Gomis and Gignac would do lovely, and to be honest I don’t like watching Cisse play football so I would not get to het up about it at all.

  • 301 drewcessford // Jul 18, 2013 at 11:00 PM

Slap in z £15m bid for Leandro Damaio.

How much would Matej Vydra cost?

  • 302 t00ntime // Jul 18, 2013 at 11:08 PM

@toon_tom No I’d buy him on based on vocabulary and my Dennis Wise scouting skills lol

  • 303 deano9988 // Jul 18, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Darren Bent’s signing for the toon is imminent according to Villa radio and Radio Newcastle

  • 304 Toon_Tom // Jul 18, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Drew – Vydra who was on loan at Watford?

  • 305 Sazzer // Jul 18, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Why do they want him sold? At what price?

He made 88 key passes almost as many as Totti, and had same shot accurarcy as Messi 68 % but half that many shots in shot in relegation team.

    He 23 years old – Left striker/winger

Graham Carr should watch some full games of him. Maybe there is some major weakness in his attitude or something.

  • 306 Jamiemac // Jul 18, 2013 at 11:12 PM

@GFN_France: APG is unwilling to go to Newcastle according to BeIN Sport. That’s where we leave you today. Night all.

  • 307 Toon_Tom // Jul 18, 2013 at 11:13 PM

Vydra banged in 25 goals (thereabouts) didn’t he?

Deano – I stated on here late last night that I was told Bent will be signed within 24hrs.

Never claimed to be ITK but I know a man!

  • 308 drewcessford // Jul 18, 2013 at 11:15 PM

They want Gomis sold because he only has one year left on his contract, is one of their highest earners and they need to sell cos they’re struggling financially.

And yes Vydra who was on loan at Watford.
