Reports In France That Newcastle Close To First Signing

There are reports coming out of France this evening that Newcastle have been in contact with Marseilles in a bid to bring French International striker Andre-Pierre Gignac to Tyneside.

Andre-Pierre Gignac – Newcastle in contact with Marseilles

Newcastle have been linked with this player earlier in the summer, but at that time the 27 year-old was looking to join a bigger club than Newcastle, which didn’t go down too well with the Geordie fans.

Everton are also thought to be considering a move for the 16 times capped French International, who moved to Marseilles from Toulouse back in 2010, and has played 101 times for Marseilles with 32 goals and 7 assists.

It had been thought that Director of Football Joe Kinnear would try to get Darren Bent into the club this week, but Newcastle may have turned to Gignac because Aston Villa could be playing hard-ball on the fee for the English International striker.

Newcastle are the only Premier league club not to have signed a senior player in the summer’s transfer window so far, and certainly manager Alan Pardew is expecting a new arrival soon on Tyneside.

Maybe it will be Gignac?

the 6’1″ tall Gignac started his carer back at Lorient in 2004, and has since played for Pau, Toulouse and Marseilles, and he has made 208 total appearances with 89 goals  29 assists in the French league.

Newcastle have also been linked with two other french strikers – Loic Remy of QPR and Bafetimbi Gomis of Lyon, with his French club wanting to sell Gomis this summer, before his contract runs out next year.

So its either this lad or Bent…

Good to see JFK is attempting to bring talent to the club… Atleast with wise there was a shred of hope that the player was good… with JFK.. you know your gonna be disappointed..

Please no -I do not think this Gignac is a top player. He had a good strike rate this season but the season before he only scored 2. No thanks – average player.

Two posts in a few minutes, Ed:)

Yes, there are at least seven different “schools” within Islam. There are also what are known as “Cultural Muslims are religiously unobservant, secular or irreligious individuals who still identify with the Muslim culture due to family background, personal experiences, or the social and cultural environment in which they grew up.”

So no real difference with Christians, where they can’t agree on all religious matters, and there are also some who would state officially they are Christian but don’t go to any church etc.

There are also clearly cultural differences. Someone in Saudi Arabia might for instance take a different view on many aspects than Muslims who have grown up in the Western world.

Cisse for example is from Senegal, which was a French colony. Although the majority of the population are Muslims they do not have a constitution based in Muslim teachings. They have normal banks and Cisse and his community will probably have wide acceptance of banks like Virgin Money (Northern Rock as was), Barclays etc

What they don’t have is people who charge interest at over 1,000 % APR.

I really don’t see how anyone can think Virgin and Wonga are in the same league?

I don’t know if Senegal has any legal restrictions on usury (immoral, excessive rates of interest), but many countries do, and surprisingly perhaps this includes many Western countries. Canada for instance has a clear statement in it’s Criminal Code that 60% interest is a “criminal interest rate” and anyone charging that is liable to up to 5 years imprisonment or $25,000 fine.

No one is comparing the two on a moral level, ethical level or even on a business level.

The comparison is that they are both money lenders who charge interest, something that Muslims oppose.

The comparison stems from the principle that Cisse wore one shirt, so why would he not wear another.

You seem like a smart guy, is that simple point really lost on you?

Of course it is not this simple, but I don’t see where your confusion comes from.

As much as I would be deflated with the signing of Bent, I don’t see how people can say that Adam le Fondre would be a better signing.

Yeah scored a decent amount of goals for Reading, from the bench. So he must have done something wrong to not be able to make the starting XI of a relegated team.

On top of that he seems like a real arrogant A-hole, so for 5m I think I’d take Bent…if it was one or the other.

@23 agree, interest is interest from an Islamic point of view from what I gather.

Once you get in to the rate of interest, that become a personal ethical judgement.

I for one, think that they should not be able to charge that rate of interest.

On the other hand, if they were not, they might not make those loans and perhaps the loanees would go to back street unregulated loan sharks who may break legs if they do not get there money.

It’s a similar argument to abortion, drugs and prostitution. You may not like it morally but people will do it whether it is legal or not.

I think if Cisse is not prepared to play with Wonga, the same should have applied to Virgin Money.

You find a direct quote where Cisse has actually said that, or could it be the BS claims of the journalists that have planted this idea in your mind.
