There are reports coming out of France this evening that Newcastle have been in contact with Marseilles in a bid to bring French International striker Andre-Pierre Gignac to Tyneside.
Andre-Pierre Gignac – Newcastle in contact with Marseilles
Newcastle have been linked with this player earlier in the summer, but at that time the 27 year-old was looking to join a bigger club than Newcastle, which didn’t go down too well with the Geordie fans.
Everton are also thought to be considering a move for the 16 times capped French International, who moved to Marseilles from Toulouse back in 2010, and has played 101 times for Marseilles with 32 goals and 7 assists.
It had been thought that Director of Football Joe Kinnear would try to get Darren Bent into the club this week, but Newcastle may have turned to Gignac because Aston Villa could be playing hard-ball on the fee for the English International striker.
Newcastle are the only Premier league club not to have signed a senior player in the summer’s transfer window so far, and certainly manager Alan Pardew is expecting a new arrival soon on Tyneside.
Maybe it will be Gignac?
the 6’1″ tall Gignac started his carer back at Lorient in 2004, and has since played for Pau, Toulouse and Marseilles, and he has made 208 total appearances with 89 goals 29 assists in the French league.
Newcastle have also been linked with two other french strikers – Loic Remy of QPR and Bafetimbi Gomis of Lyon, with his French club wanting to sell Gomis this summer, before his contract runs out next year.
