Newcastle Want Loic Remy – And He Wants To Join Magpies

9:16 am, Saturday, July 20th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 73 Comments

Alan Pardew has said today that he is fairly satisfied with the defense and midfield at Newcastle, but he wants more reinforcements up front.

loic remy france

Loic Remy – Newcastle him – he wants to come

And the manager also hinted he was overloaded a bit in midfield and one or two players could still leave this summer, and one of them will in all likelihood be Dan Gosling, who we expect to move to Crystal Palace.,

And with Papiss Cisse now likely to leave, if no solution can be found to him refusing to wear the Wonga insignia, we could see Newcastle bring in three new strikers this summer.

And news today in the local papers that Newcastle are still talking to Loic Remy’s representatives – yes those are the ones that did the dirty on Newcastle in January, when they secretly arranged a meeting with QPR in London, after asking Newcastle to arrange Remy’s medical in London rather than on Tyneside.

That was not good, but it seems Newcastle officials are willing to overlook the huge mistake made by our number one striker choice in January, and Newcastle still want to sign the 26 year-old 18 times capped French International.

The reports in the Evening Chronicle today are that Loic Remy wants to join Newcastle, so it seems both parties are willing to forget what happened in January, and although it very rarely happens on Tyneside – we could see a player who rejected us – still join the club.

While we never thought that would happen, we’d welcome Loic to Newcastle – everybody makes a mistake in their career at some point – and just imagine if we get Gomis too – we’ll essentially have two of the best French strikers at the club.

As a recap, Remy played three season at Marseilles with 95 appearances and 39 goals, and this year at a struggling QPR side, he played 18 times with four goals.

If we get both Bafetimbi Gomis and Loic Remy – we’d still need one more striker if Papiss Cisse is sold – so maybe that’s Darren Bent.

If we can get Gomis (£6M), Remy (£7M) and Bent (£4M) through the door for around £17M  - that would be very good business for Newcastle.

And we’d have three good strikers up front, with 18 year-old Adam Campbell ready to show what he can do in a black and white shirt at his local club.

And new Frenchman Yoan Gouffran can also play up front, so Shola Ameobi would then in all likelihood be sold.

So there’s still time to turn this summer into a successful transfer window – just get Gomis, Remy and Bent through the door and we’d be happy enough, in fact we’d be very happy.

Go for it Joe!

    Who needs Bent or Shola?

  • 4 Slank // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:22 AM

    I would welcome him.

Given Freddy Shepherd’s view of Geordie women they should be quite safe with Remy around!

Time to stop f**king about toon
Lets get some deals done some players in have a great pre season and put all the drama of last season and the unbelievable PR sh1t storm you have managed to create this pre season

dear i say it even, who needs cisse?

    being arrogantly premature?

  • 7 NotEvenGeordie // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:22 AM

Cardozo to replace cisse, with gomis and remy playing either side of him in a 4-3-3? That’ll do me like.

  • 8 Slank // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:23 AM

I think you have said that before. Anything new?

  • 9 Hatem's better than Messi // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:24 AM

Remy is the best forward we’ve been linked to. More like the quality that a NUFC striker should be.

The rape case is a huge concern and I can’t see us going for him for that reason.

Indian I’m with you … sack the useless puppet.

Mr Tudor @ 46 previous page ‘the name on the back is no where near as big as the badge on the front’

That would be the big blue Wonga badge you’re talking about, John, just to avoid any confusion?

  • 13 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:27 AM

Cardozo would fit that lone striker role for us superbly. I’m not convinced by Gomis, I have seen him look superb, and seen games where he couldn’t hit a barn door. But, if Cisse is going, and we replaced him and Ba with Gomis Remy nad Cardozo, I think we would look in good shape. Remy is a slight worry due to this case if he were to be convicted we would be a striker down, but with Goofy, Campbell and Vuckic, we could cope I think.

If we get those 3 it is time to send Campbell on loan.

(Still giant IF’s on all of these though!)

How long until somebody rolls out the xenophobia?

  • 15 Transfer Sage // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:28 AM

It purely depends on the club this deal. Two things

    1. do they want to risk money on somebody who may end up charge, then possibly convicted of a serious crime

    2. do they want to risk the reputation of the club on such a player.

It’s a risk until we know for sure the outcome of the investigation. The question the club need to ask…is he worth the risk.

True we could of stayed with virgin, but we didn’t

So know Mr. Ashley had to either back his player or back his choice
I think we both know which choice he will make!

Exactly mate, so it’s in cisse’s interst to find a compromise and quickly whether that be, a blank top, a contract, a transfer before it gets any further out of hand

We have a reputation of signing criminals and nothing more.

  • 20 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:30 AM

I don’t think the reputation part will cross anyone’s mind (within the club). The cash part however, will be at the forefront!

  • 29 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:38 AM

Are they? I can’t see it. They have just got Negredo, and Jovetic is virtually done. They still have Dzeko and Aguero, so not sure how Cordozo would fit in, unless they were selling one of those 2. They also have Guidetti, who will have to breakthrough or move on this year.

  • 31 Transfer Sage // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:39 AM

True, we have had some bad players over the years in terms of reputation.

I’d like to think we can clean this up though and avoid these kind of players…why sign somebody who may be charged and possibly then convicted on such a serious crime.

sport seems to be the only profession where you can get away with a terrible criminal record.

just for the record…want to say i’m not jumping to conclusions, remy may be innocent, just dont want to risk it until we know one way or the other.

not 100% sure, just read it in the papers. I think they have enough.

But then again there are talks of madrid in for Aguero and then even dzeko moving on too…so possibly might want him in.

Guidetti will never make it at city, just wont happen now…not a big enough name and hasn’t done enough with them. Worth a loan offer i think.

  • 37 peaco1980 // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:43 AM

If true, it’s a bit odd that Percy says he’s satisfied with the defence and midfield, when we’ve bought nobody in, lost a few (perch was a big loss IMO), and he spent most of last season telling anyone who cared to listen that the squad was too small etc etc. fully expecting the ‘having colo back is like a new signing’ chestnut now, but does this mean that when we revert back to his stone-age tactics that he can’t use squad size as an excuse?

A very good front 3, add sissoko, gouffran, hba, cabaye, to it and we’re looking very dangerous.

  • 44 IITianToon // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:48 AM

@Indian That sounds highly contradictory. On the official site Pardew has said and I quote.. “There’s good competition in most areas now and there will also be other bonuses like – hopefully – another full season for Sylvain Marveaux, who has been hampered by injury since he came here.”

So unless JFK is going over Pardew’s head, I dont see him leaving at all.

  • 45 Transfer Sage // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:48 AM

we have 3/4 fullbacks (santon, debuchy, haidara, dummet..even raylor)

CB have 4 (colo, mbiwa, saylor, willo)

loads of CM (cabaye, anita, marv, sissoko, tiote, bigi)

we lack in wide areas and in forwards really…thats the main issue.

    Last two articles combined –
Could this be a good week for the TOON transfers. If we get in Remy and Gomis would/could become a excellent strike partnership.

also interesting article in todays Independent about Mike Ashley – about himself and business.

Par on the TOON makes good read !!!! – Story goes bought the TOON to sell quickly for a great profit deal lined up but did not come off – Newcastle have become a very costly investment – but wil not sell out on the cheap to avoid the abuse from the magpie faithful.

It’s a big decision for the club on cisse.

If cisse will not negotiate his position and wonga wont theres (and if their contract says they are entitled to make all players wear the logo or seek compensation) then theres nothing the club can do but sell cisse…or not play him.

Poor from wonga if they wont allow cisse to not wear it….can always say they are doing it to respect his religion which if anything will make them look more better really.

  • 53 Levi // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:57 AM

I would love to keep cisse as I think he is class. Maybe if we have a change round of numbers then cisse would be allowed to not wear it. I just think its because he has the biggest shirt in Newcastle history. How would he feel about getting the 19 shirt?

  • 54 geordiemark // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:57 AM

there is no way id allow marv out on loan

  • 55 sirtoongospel // Jul 20, 2013 at 9:58 AM

JT, I know that last year Papiss was told that Demba was likely leaving in January and that an agreement was in place with Remy, and a return to 4-3-3 was on the cards. We all know what happened though.

In January the general feeling was that Ashley blamed his staff for not getting it done. Since then the club have kept things extremely quiet and not even the players are kept in the loop any more.

They certainly love Remy as a player as he has the pace they have needed for a while, so hopefully it can get done. But NUFC want an initial 6 month loan while his personal situation gets looked at, then the deal would become permanent in January.

We are very ponderous with every transfer though so fingers crossed they can get some of these deals done eh??

  • 56 RooneyToons // Jul 20, 2013 at 10:01 AM

On Gomis its difficult to know how good he is from only watching him a couple of times but he’s certainly built for the Premiership.

I don’t know if anyones seen this video it gives you a bit more idea on how he plays and i must say he looks perfect for us.
Strong, quick, can definitely finish and his link up play looks really good which is something we’re lacking.
He looks like he could be the link from Midfield to striker that we’re missing.
Look how he comes deep and looks for the ball and links in the wingers we don’t have anyone who does that.. maybe Ameobi but he’s not quick enough to then get on the end of the wingers cross.

    Sign him up

  • 57 Transfer Sage // Jul 20, 2013 at 10:01 AM

I think it’s good what cisse is doing….not enough people these days stand up for their values. People are quick to brush their values aside to make a bit extra money, good on him for doing it.

Personally I’d like to think i’d do the same in that situation. Try to find some resolution to the situation.

Surprised wonga haven’t commented…its bad press for them.

TS, yeah it’s not straight forward at all. Wonga dismissed out of hand the proposals of wearing a charity logo’d shirt, and the PFA were no help at all.

Talks were ongoing as they all want it resolved, but it looks as though Papiss will have to back down if he wants to stay. But I don’t think he will :(

  • 60 stopper // Jul 20, 2013 at 10:08 AM

Morning all…..we all pretty much know what type of player Remy is after seeing him play with QPR last season however I know little about our other target Gomis other that clips form YouTube .
From those who know players far better than myself especially this Gomis fella could you be able to tell me what type of CF he is.
Could Gomis be compared with Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku……. I’m not saying he’s that good a player but is a player in that mold??????

  • 61 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 20, 2013 at 10:09 AM

Oh… so now Remy wants to come to us… Fifa with Tony not cutting it anymore?

While I don’t deny he has talent… its his attitude that I have to question….

Gomis and Lukaku would be ideal for me, but I’d settle with gomis and Le Fondre

  • 66 peaco1980 // Jul 20, 2013 at 10:22 AM

Transfer Sage, I’m not in violent disagreement with you on this; I think all I’m saying is that we had more personnel last season in those positions (for half of the season anyway)than we do currently, and we still got the small squad excuses.

I do think we look a bit light in terms of cover at right back now Simpson and Perch have gone; I’m not sure that Tav is the answer but Raylor might be – albeit he’s been out a long time.

Assuming Marveaux and Ben Arfa stay fit we do have options out wide, or even with Santon and Raylor (if fit) maybe pushing further up the park. I may be wrong but I think Ben Arfa and Marveaux probably prefer to operate through the middle, so whilst I agree that we could probably do with a Scott Sellars/Keith Gillespie type wide man with some pace – do we have the right set up, up top for that?

  • 67 geordiemark // Jul 20, 2013 at 10:22 AM

I’d like to see us use Cisse + cash to Villa to swap with Benteke. IF the lad IS going, we may as well get the best out of the deal although Benteke probably wants tp join a more ambitious and successful club at this point. Sadly, that ain’t us.

Not super thrilled about the idea of Remy coming. Assuming he does though with Gomis I don’t see the need to be buying Bent then. Should use that money to pick up a good, fast winger who can cross. That would also free up Goofy to play up top too if need be.

Why don’t we offer to take Remy on loan until Christmas on condition that if the rape charges are dropped we will complete a full signing in January?

Seems to be the best of both worlds. We get an additional striker, and they get the cost of Remy’s wages off their books.
