With the news today that Joe Kinnear is about to appoint Mick Harford, who is a coach, as his assistant, it’s not clear to us what Joe is doing, when Alan Pardew is in charge of all coaching at the club.
Joe Kinnear – unsettling influence at Newcastle
We have to remember that when Joe was appointed as the Director of football in early 2001 at Luton Town, when the club were in relegation trouble, he immediately demoted the manager Lil Fuccillo and appointed himself as manager of the team – but Luton were still relegated that May.
One good question to ask at Newcastle now, is who is in charge of the day-to-day operations, since Managing Director Derek LLambias resigned in protest at Kinnear’s appointment.
And the answer from the club will probably be that it’s being shared between Joe and club Secretary Lee Charnley and maybe some others, but shared responsibilities never work well in an organization.
And it’s always good to have clear lines of responsibility and one person in charge – and then if things go wrong you have one neck to wring – as the saying goes. :D.
The news today is unsettling for Newcastle, and it comes at a bad time, and seems to put even more pressure on manager Alan Pardew.
Joe can be successful at Newcastle, but only if he concentrates on the job he was hired for – getting transfer targets into the club and moving players out, and we still haven’t got one senior player through the door this summer, and that’s not good, although there’s still plenty of time left.
The appointment of Joe Kinnear was met with some dismay by Newcastle fans, and the move to appoint his pal Mick Hartford will have fans wondering what he’s up to.
We suppose it could be to have Hartford work with him on transfers and the like, since Mick is a football person, but Joe seems to be an unsettling influence at the Tyneside club – ever since he arrived.
It would also be nice if Hartford is indeed hired, that Newcastle tell the fans how he fits into the organization, and what job he’ll be doing.

It would also be worthy to note we had a god awful team (pretty much the relegation team) at the time MA took over the club.
Yet he is our worst owner because we were paying stupid amounts for relegation has been talent.

We had a chance to be more than average after we finished 5th.
We were 3 signings away from pushing on to something special. Not title winners but are any of us asking for that?
Im not saying 3 25m signings. With carr it could have been much less.
The lack of ambition shown by ashley is what really did us in.

Just no, no……
Had something special? LOL
We could have bought 5 players, decent players and given our injuries last season still finished were we did.
The difference between 16th and 8th last season was a handful of points your talking a win or 2, or perhaps a win and a loss for the opposing teams.
7-8th down is a league of its own, and thats what we are playing for.
The season we finished 5th, we finished 5th in our league because we are not in the same league as those above us, accept it now.
Football is not what it used to be, and never will be. Its why our England team is so crap now too!

Comment #88Apparently im deluded because in my 20 odd years of watching nufc i have hated the last 6 years the most. This is why ashley is the worst owner in my opinion.
I would give anything to go back to the good old days.
I have found the best thing to cheer me up in these dark times is to watch the 5 0 win over man u.
Never gets old and reminds me of the attacking football i miss.
Also i was watching it with my mackem stepdad loving it at the time as he was moaning like mad.

THOSE DAYS ….
Are gone! FACT! The PL, the game is a different animal now! We will never see a level playing field like that again and even then it was never level! Man Utd still held all the power, we simply like Arsenal bought the right players for the right amount at the right time, but simply put never did what Arsenal and Wenger did, and that was finish the job.
12 point lead, Keegan should’ve been sacked in this day in age!

Comment #95This is getting old. Seriously….it’s the same crap every single day. “Pardew out, we’re going to be relegated, this is going to happen, that is going to happen.” Jesus freaking Christ…just calm down. We don’t know what the situation is with Kinnear and his new “assistant,” we don’t know what is happening with the transfers etc etc…we can think of some kind of conspiracy for everything that happens in life, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true. Why don’t we wait until we don’t sign anyone? Why don’t we wait and see if Pardew is in fact pushed out? Why don’t we wait and see what happens next season before stating we’re going to be relegated? People jump on Pawl’s back, do you not see that he’s actually right? We are and have been for a long time now…an average sized club, what plaudits are we living on? A couple of trophy wins? That doesn’t make us a “big” team. Pawl is completely right…the game has changed…billionaires have entered the playing field…it isn’t easy to compete with the “big boys” any more. I love our team…I really do, and I will continue to support the team through thick and thin…through the rollercoaster of emotion that comes with being a fan of NUFC. The fans make this club what it is…a fantastically supported club, a fan base that can charge St James’ Park so full of electricity and boost our team, as well as knock other teams off their game. We the fans are 8/10 what makes Newcastle attractive to other players…not that we’re a “big team.” Do you think that if players that we were linked with read this blog (I know they don’t…before someone jumps on me for that) they would want to come play for the club? No. We aren’t going to change the regime…but we can show them that no matter what they throw at us…we will still stand tall, applaude loudly, and cheer for our team even louder than that. We will still get behind our team…we will show the world that we deserve the title we have as Newcastle fans.
“Proud to be a Geordie, We’ll Support You Ever More” – how about we show the spirit that we did back then? We were relegated…tears were shed, hearts broken, minds blown at the prospect that we would not be a Premier League team…but we still stood tall….we still supported our team….it doesn’t matter whether we’re a small club, average club, or massive club…THIS IS OUR TEAM….lets keep on supporting it the only way we know…with passion.

I support your arguments. Some people blindly hated things or a person just because of a crowd factor, yet when they are alone, they didnt voice out their satisfaction.
Support your arguments with facts and numbers, not by how many curse words there are in your comment. I salute you Mr Pawl, thats a constructive comments u had.

Comment #97I agree with most of that and I think Pawl had some valid points too.
For some people, their life appears to need to be a roller coaster.
Let’s see what happens. At the end of the day what matters is whether the team play well and win games.
If that does not happen and steps are not taken to address that then by all means moan.

Comment #99This suggestion that Ashley saved us from doing a Leeds is a bit of a long bow, when in actual fact he`s simply saved himself the interest on the overdraft, and gained immense benifit in terms of brand recognition from ownership of the club while spending relatively little.

Pawl’s here saying Pardew’s better than Keegan, he’s slagging off Keegan and Shearer!
I’ve got a fact for you – Pardew’s win percentage is in the bottom 3 NUFC Managers since the Premiership Started! His 33% win ratio – The Man’s been sacked from 3 clubs, left two in the relegation zone, getting another relegated!
You say we haven’t had a good manager – Houghton was a good manager! Proving it at Norwich aswell!
Roeder had a 45% win percentage! He was a better manager than Pardew!
Here’s the list of NUFC managers (since start of prem) with a better win % than Pardew
Keegan
Dalglish
Gullit
Souness
Roeder
Allardyce
Houghton
Then it goes
Pardew
Kinnear
Shearer
Bottom 3 ever – He is not a good manager, he is a shocking manager.. His past/current record proves it – How people say he becomes a good manager by getting us into Europe then blaming the FFing thing for our downfall is ridiculous!

Comment #101Pawl..i get your points about pardew…but just think of teams like swansea…the attacking football they are playing…and they dont have any high profile players in thier team…even teams like southampton were playing attacking football last season…the thing with pardew is that he never changes his tactics….he has got a really good team there…and he still complaints there…he always plays his favourites…and if he doesnt change that,he should go…last year during he said that we are lacking in defence…and now he is saying we just need attackers…and that is after selling perch….he contradicts a lot…but i think ashley is doing an ok job as an owner…he did some stupid things when he 1st came…then getting carr in and those players,i thought he was learning…it seems he did bid for pea which is quite ambitious…but appointing JFK was a huge mistake…a step back wards i would say…and nw this new..i dont wat to say…if its true,it is really a poor decision

Comment #102His record at Newcastle or other clubs doesn`t indicate he`s shocking nor paticularly good, if anything just run of the mill, as far as I can tell.
Maybe you could gain more insight into his worth by comparing his overall record at each club hes been at with that clubs overall record perhaps 5 years before and after, and also at Newcastle he was at the helm when we achieved 5th and did get us to the quarters of the Europa league within 3 years after promotion.
Should have done better overall I suppose, but the whole club has largely underperformed under Ashley, and that`s probably the word to best describe his time at Newcastle, underperformed. He argues ofcourse he hasn`t been correctly backed, and he has a point.

Comment #104No doubt pardew is mediocre at absolute best
But he was not sacked as he should have been so we may as well get on with it, get behind the team and see where we are after 10 games
If we are not looking good after those 10 games, pardew, ashley, jfk and whoever will get what they deserve.
Right now allthis drama queen stuff is like crying before the milk is even spilt

The season hasn’t started yet, I hate pardew but he said he has realised his mistakes, I’m willing to give him one last chance to prove himself.
We have made mistakes in the past, now we are doing things differently. This is what I call progress, it’s just that we haven’t seen the fruit of that changes because the season hasn’t started yet and transfer window hasn’t closed yet.
In Llambias era, we don’t have people with football knowledge in charge other than pardew, now we have. It’s a progress, JK may not be the favourite person to be DOF, but he has the knowledge.
I believe this season will be much better and we will be in top 6 with or without pardew.

Your going about things the wrong way, you have a lot of valid points but your opening yourself up to criticism by using insults and the word FACT when by definition, what you tag it with is merely speculation.
Also, you would do well to persuade most on this blog they are wrong, when they themselves ignore fact and employ speculation.
Anyone shouting for pardews head at the moment, I fear are failing to see the bigger picture presenting itself. Look at what kinnear did at Luton, does it not seem that maybe he has advised MA of this? He has been appointed as Pardews boss, bringing in his former assistant, no players as of yet… id be surprised if pardew was still here come sep 2nd.
But let me ask you this:
Alan pardew OR kinnear-a-saurace and his mackam assistant?
Id say better the devil you know.

Comment #111Pawl250 – shame to see that the attention-seeking, delusional and in some cases: offensive comments actually get traction and people feel the need to engage with you. This blog is about giving a platform to people to express there opinions, albeit in a measured, considered and respectful manner. Perhaps you should think about that before hitting submit.

From what I am aware, Mick Harford has zero experience of developing youngsters, or indeed in scouting/judging a players development or potential. Previously, this was down to Beardsley and Donachie to report and comment on progress. Beardsley is close to Ashley, and I doubt MA would want him replaced, unless Beardsley was stepping up to bigger things at the club.

Comment #118There has been much debate on Cisse and wonga but something which I find hard to fully understand and appreciate is the dawn to dusk fasting for Ramadan and the implications on the teams preparation for the coming season.
The origins of Ramadan were for it to take place in countries where the days are much shorter than in England. We presently have around 18 hours of daylight and without water for such periods in a heatwave this is injurious to health. Maybe little will be seen of our Muslim players in a toon shirt until the 9th August when Ramadan ends. But doesn’t this impact on pre season training and generally being physically active?
