Newcastle Given An Opening For Top French Striker

There are reports in France that Marseilles are ready to let their striker Andre-Pierre Gignac leave the club this summer, to ease their rather large wage bill.

Andre-Pierre Gignac – doesn’t want to leave Marseilles

It seems that Marseilles want to move Gignac out this summer, and with Newcastle reported to be interested in the player, that may be good news for Newcastle.

But it seems Gignac does not want to leave Marseilles, and he’s already indicated that he’d like to join a bigger club than Newcastle. 🙁

Gignac is 27 and is coming off a good season with 18 goals in 39 total games for the French club, and he’s also a physical type of player who could do well in the Premier League.

Willie McKay has been asked to look for a club for Gignac, and Willie had this to say to Le Parisien about potential interest in England:

“They’re interested in his profile. With his power, he’s made for the Premier League.”

However his agent Jean-Christophe Cano has made it clear his client does not want to leave Marseilles, and Cano said this in Le Parisien:

“We’ve got a lot of time to think together about what comes next,” “I’ve not mentioned the slightest offer from abroad for Andre-Pierre, because he simply has not envisaged leaving this summer.”

“Finding a better project that OM’s right now is immensely difficult. He’s looking forward to enjoying another great season at Marseilles.”

It seems that Gignac is a long shot for a move to Newcastle United this summer, and probably the main reason for that is he just doesn’t want to come to the Tyneside club – so why bother?

What do you think?

This guy has ambitions above his station, he doesn’t want to come here as we are not a big enough club for him and if you read what the Marseille fans have said about him we need to steer clear

    From last post

So Harford has turned us down (sigh of relief) and now I guess JFK will let another week go by without signing anybody or sorting the sissy situation out, while his search for a person to blame his future mistakes goes on.

But that’s exactly what the rumours were. He was going to be brought in to scout the lowers leagues. We’d love to have some more young British talent right? You and I don’t know his skills or experience so why do people get negative so quickly!

As far as we know, MA told JFK to do more in the lower leagues while Carr does Western Europe, JFK said he’d like to bring in a guy he knows could help because he knows those leagues really well, and then Hartford was interviewed. If that did happen, as far as we know, we turned him down because he didn’t impress.

If we were ever interested in him then I for one would be gobsmacked.

I seriously doubt that Carr would recommend someone this sh*te.

    Non-starter, move on. Next!

Would steer clear of Gignac! Im not a huge gomis fan but he is a good character and works hard for the team at least! Gingac for me would be buying from ligue 1 for the sake of it! Hes not cheap, hes already on huge wages too (40-50k pw) and there is better british strikers for 10-12m! Id rather Gary Hooper for 5m! Jordan Rhodes, Vydra, would cost less and are i think better players!

The Ashley years have seen an evolving process for fans of Newcastle United largely because of the poor communication from the club.

We all have our areas of relative expertise but we now have a lot of people who could be expert witnesses on football finance and fair play. Providing an insight, as they see it, of details of the money side of things. So far so good if you can read a balance sheet and understand financial accounting. But there are a growing number of fans who have turned into tactical masters and insist that if only Pardew would listen to them we would be playing CL football. I exaggerate but you get the general idea.

It was blatantly obvious that last season as a team, we were abysmal and whilst it was not solely because we got the tactics wrong it did nevertheless impact and contribute to a poor season.

Tactics are part of a successful team and going into a new season Pardew will have a number of formations that the squad are to train with and use depending on forthcoming opposition. Of equal importance though in any formation/ system is that players give total commitment which was not always the case last season. Very noticeable when Pardew is signalling a closing down game when we don’t have the ball only for it obviously not to be a feature of our play.

Fitness levels do need to improve as do individual player performance. Tactics are only part of winning football matches,
no formation could compensate for poor individual play over such an extensive period. The squad lacked depth to wring the changes and even with a shipload of January signings it took time to bed them in. Tim Krul is a top draw player but he far too often cleared the ball straight to the opposition . This requires individual responsibility which he has had ample time to rectify. And our players failing to find a fellow player with a 5-10 yard pass, no amount of coaching can sort that out. Individual players have to sort it out and spend more time in training working on their distribution. Also working on levels of concentration and disciplined defending. Motivation comes from within.

Much was made of the 4-3-3 system employed in our 5th placed season. It was good to watch and we really opened teams up with it, but we also had players in that formation who were bang on their game. We had Ba up to Xmas scoring for fun and thereafter Papiss Cisse scoring instinctively. HBA individually opening up teams on his own. Cabaye displaying a range of passing not seen by the toon for many seasons and being influential in the best of a very good season.
Fabricio Coloccini being the orchestrata of the defence and behind him Tim Krul showing that he is one of the very best goalkeepers in the PL

All of which leads me to believe that it’s not down to tactics but player performances that win football matches. Pardew claims to have instilled lessons into the squad. Time will tell.

I think players performances are key but if they are set up badly and told they must sit deep, they must invite pressure into our half, they must go long etc etc…tactics are at fault.

But if the basic set up is right, or near enough right it will be the players fault more.

You’re going to have a miserable time supporting this club for a while then mate…

Some good moves this summer so far IMO:
    – appointment of new Performance Director
    – appointment of a DoF with a football background (although I wouldn’t have picked JFK)
    – none of our first team players are kicking up a fuss about leaving
    – only injury concerns I’m aware of are Raylor (out for season) and Krul (will hopefully be ready soon though)
    – confirmed links to several top strikers
    – we’re clearly looking to expand our scouting network to include young British players in the lower leagues

Only negatives as far as I see them:
    – JFK spouting off rubbish
    – Cisse situation still not resolved

    With you on that.
Ashley has no interest in the club. He’s stuck with a business he doesn’t want and can’t sell at a profit.

    Cheap, cheap, cheap everytime.
It might work with strips and shoes but not with footballing clubs where quality and class matter.

Agreed when Raylor got injured and Obertan was poor, Pardew had little option but to finally give Ben Arfa a game and was forced to accommodate Cisse, Benny and Ba in a fantastic 433 which everyone loved, me especially, it was happy days..

Nobody forced Pardew to change that but at Wigan that season he threw it out into the long grass never to be seen again.

Last season if Ba wouldn’t play left he could have rotated ba and Cisse and kept them fresh for our europa campaign and played marveaux or even Obertan out left in the positon Ba vacated.

This never happened, we ploughed on regardless with ba and cisse in a 442 that was never going to work for club or country. Subsequently Cisse was deployed as a winger and then a target man. Go figure!

Let’s stop adding or recycling striker names – Joe’s got w problem remembering names at the best of times, so maybe we should keep things simple for him.

Joe, forget all other names and just concentrate your attention on getting Gomis signed up.

When you’ve done that, you can go on a nice long holiday. They say Somalia’s nice at this tine of year!

    Negatives would be

    Employing Kinnear (again)
    Trying to employ Harford
    Retaining Pardew
Not adding to our coaching set up
    Not signing anyone
Selling players without first bringing in replacement
    The Wonga sponsorship
Failing to deal with the Cisse situation

    Positives
Bringing Faye Downey to the club

It really gets on my nerves when sites publish things like “Newcastle United have amazingly signed Mick Harford in what can only be seen as an attempt by Joe Kinnear to oust manager Alan Pardew.”

    1 – it wouldn’t be amazing
    2 – he hasn’t signed
3 – there is no way that the “only” way to see it is to get rid of Pardew!

Sites publish trash like that and then some stupid gullible fans come on here and slag off the owners for doing this.

Most of the stuff that MA has been slagged off for isn’t even true!

This is a long running saga I recall between us. HBA has now acknowledged that his biggest concern returning from a bad injury was mental not physical. Pardew nursed him back which was good management.
I am signing off as I am running late.
