Newcastle To Move For Loic Remy This Week

9:58 am, Monday, July 22nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 25 Comments

News in the local papers today that Joe Kinnear has put in an official bid for Bafetimbi Gomis of Lyon, with the news that Marseilles have also become interested in the 27 year-old French International striker.

Loic Remy – approach will be made this week

And Newcastle are not stopping there. with news today the club will open talks with Queens Park Rangers and Loic Remy’s representatives this week.

Oscar Cardozo is another striker available, but at 30 he is a bit old, but the main reason we don’t think the Benfica striker will be a Newcastle target is that his price tag is too high at £13M, and that’s a lot of money to pay out for a 30 year-old.

There could be reasons we are not privy to, but we don’t understand why Newcastle have waited so long to go after Remy, who is supposed to be willing to finally join up with Newcastle, if recent news reports are to be believed.

But we’ll only believe it this time after he is signed, sealed and delivered at Newcastle, after he pulled out of the Newcastle deal at the very last minute in January and joined QPR for the big money instead.

But here’s a nice thought – if we can get both Bafetimbi Gomis and Loic Remy at Newcastle soon, things will start to look up on Tyneside.

And then we will somehow have to work through the deadlock with Papiss Cisse and Wonga, although it doesn’t look like Cisse will be staying at Newcastle now, at least according to the local papers.

    What news Ed?

This Remy saga is starting to resemble the Debuchy fiasco from last summer.

  • 2 Transfer Sage // Jul 22, 2013 at 10:02 AM

He is a talent but do we really want to sign a player who may still be charged with a very serious matter?

personally i wouldn’t touch him until we know if he is to be charged or not.

They will move in with all the grace, eloquence, speed and cutting edge negotiating skills that a deluded, obese, foul mouthed elderly man with suspected vascular dementia can muster.

Another one we can chalk off then.

So the good news in the last thread was our 1 goal in 31 games striker hasn’t really broken his arm.

Take him in a heartbeat, this guy is Exactly what we need, him and Gomis would be awesome.

  • 5 rossi // Jul 22, 2013 at 10:06 AM

you lot told jk to keep his mouth shut . so when he does you then complain of lacking information make your bloody minds up

  • 6 RonVanDam // Jul 22, 2013 at 10:06 AM

How about inserting a clause in his contract. If convicted, we get a rebate on the remaining term left on his contract from the QPR of the money we paid for him. His contract is nullified while he rots in jail. (Thats if he’s found guilty)

Ed lol…. you gotta stop pulling these articles out of your arse lol

    No sources, no links lol

“There could be reasons we are not privy to, but we don’t understand why Newcastle have waited so long to go after Remy”

We don’t understand why Newcastle have waited so long to go after ANYBODY. More like…

  • 9 Slank // Jul 22, 2013 at 10:07 AM

    Sage,

I would like to think that any contract with him would have a get out clause if he ended up in the clink.

However, I think he is worth going for having seen his performances with QPR. Hopefully we can also get Bent and Gomis.

With Bramble and Ranger gone, we are short of quality in certain departments. Remy will fill the bill nicely. He snubbed us in January for cash at QPR but was obviously not aware of the club’s recent history. The sort of performer who will do well on the Quayside.

TS – I’d imagine the club would have done their homework on the remy case, and last I heard off of some journo somewhere was that they weren’t even sure that Remy is subject to a charge or not. And that he was only linked via associated persons.

But who knows what will happen.

Remy signing, and Gomis to replace shola is a huge upgrade, and will surely improve moral on this place.

I hope so anyway…it’s dire right now!

Good news at last- 2 strikers.
    Next on the agenda
2 defensive full backs and all
    will be well.

    @7

Give Ed a break, he doesn’t have to produce these articles,

If you don’ t like the articles, don’t read them, or more importantly, don’t comment on them.

Ed does a fine job with this forum, mostly just trying to raise debate between fans, and very much in a ‘what if’ scenario, as no-one 100% knows what/who we are after until they have the stripes on their back.

Perhaps the club should hire the same lawyers who represent Oscar Pistorius as he is continuing his sport even though he has allegedly murdered his girl friend.

  • 15 Andres InYaNestEh // Jul 22, 2013 at 10:15 AM

We have been trying to sign him since January so there has to be a slight chance, slight chance we can sort it before deadline day.

  • 16 richyg01 // Jul 22, 2013 at 10:20 AM

    JEFF.

    Here is your link.

  • 17 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 22, 2013 at 10:33 AM

    Finally some movement.

    Lol,

    In your own time Joe.

Gomis and Remy with a bit of luck.

Could this mean Cisse is off? Following on the trend of one step foward two steps back.

  • 18 lesh // Jul 22, 2013 at 10:48 AM

Transfer Sage…… As Remy’s under a bit of a cloud at the moment, he and Gomis (who’s also been reported as being involved in similar pastimes to Remy), should at least have something in common.

You never know, they might even form a successful partnership on the pitch!

  • 19 magicbus // Jul 22, 2013 at 11:18 AM

I wont hold ny breath then this week

  • 20 stopper // Jul 22, 2013 at 11:41 AM

“There could be reasons we are not privy to, but we don’t understand why Newcastle have waited so long to go after Remy”

Like all are apparent drawn out purchase of players each summer window …… It takes this long cos the tight ar£e MA is holding off as long as possible so that he doesn’t have to pay the players wages pre season and the gambler in him seems to enjoy the risk of the possibility of loosing the player by adopting this strategy.

Every month not paying wages is money into the controllers pocket.

  • 21 widowmagandapoke // Jul 22, 2013 at 1:46 PM

Taking on Remy is a bit of a risk, agreed, but of all the players mooted, I reckon he would fill the bill best.
And could there not be a clause re the court outcome?

  • 22 sa80teur // Jul 22, 2013 at 2:01 PM

Seriously, Jeff is another troll. Please don’t bother responding. When you argue with an idiot, he’ll beat you by experience.
He doesnt care what you think, he’s not here for the discussion, he only wants attention and to get under your skin.

  • 23 toonicle // Jul 22, 2013 at 4:04 PM

So 3 weeks have to go by before we even put a bid in? Way to go Joe.

  • 24 monty // Jul 22, 2013 at 6:31 PM

Please let this this be another speculative media story because if Newcastle still cant grasp the stupidity of signing players who couldn’t give a monkeys for the club after all the wrong uns weve had before then there no hope. Let him fester at QPR where he prefered to go in the first place.

  • 25 shamsoftabriz // Jul 23, 2013 at 4:44 AM

Why not bring in players we can all support? I don’t want any part of a player with a pending legal matter of that magnitude. If it goes against him, we look like fools, and we’re short a striker again. Why risk it?
