Coloccini, Debuchy, Tiote And Ben Arfa Start

Pacos de Ferreiranufc-crest

As expected Fabricio Coloccini, Hatem Ben Arfa, Cheick Tiote and Mathieu Debuchy all start for Newcastle tonight, as we face Pacos de Ferreira, who finished 3rd top of the Primeira last season and qualified for the Champions League.

Rob Elliot is back in goal and it looks like Yanga-Mbiwa is at left-back, where he played so well for the Magpies in the last few games of the season.

And both Ameobi brothers start this game too, and it’s a little bit of a surprise that Shola is fit after his wrist injury on Saturday night, but it’s still good news for Newcastle, since we are so short of strikers right now.

We expect this to be an even tougher game that we had against Rio Ave on Saturday night.

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Rob Elliot; Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa; Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye; Moussa Sissoko, Hatem Ben Arfa, Sammy Ameobi; Shola Ameobi
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Davide Santon, Paul Dummett, Mike Williamson, Jonas Gutierrez, Haris Vuckic, Sylvain Marveaux, Yoan Gouffran, Adam Campbell

    Sissoko is not a CAM.

Shola is not a starter, especially coming off an injury.

Other then that pretty decent. Nice to see Sammy getting a chance.

Predicted this same old from Pardew. Playing our best CB in LB, Santon on bench… Sissoko being played out of position where Marvo should be playing…. or even Vuckic.. Yoan Gouffran should be starting instead of Shola Ameobi which I thought was injured? and what about Sammy all show no development and finish…

    Nothing has changed.

I know, but a few months previous to that he was also saying he wasn’t a CAM even though he was enjoying playing there. Sure it means more glory for him, but quite frankly he’s awful there.

Anyone that is awaiting a change in tactics can dream on, seems he has not learnt from last season although he admitted not long ago that there was problems. He is only going to carry on to what he thinks is correct which is in reality wrong due to his ego.

where is your evidence that Yanga is our best centre back?
last season he looked like a fish out of water so it cant be based on watching him then and i can only assume your basing it on his reputation alone.

In know way do I think he is a CAM, he gets the ball runs into a player or does an awful pass and loses possession. When deployed further back he has time to look and pick out runs/passes.

Sissoko – CM who can sit in a defensive role and break up play or can also play the number10 role, more advanced and powerhousing thru the middle.

Lets whack him in the flank tonight

    @luke.r

I dont base it on videos but base it on ability and awareness. Steven Taylor has been here for years but he always causes problems at the back and should not even be starting. Mbiwa is our best center back currently, with Coloccini he is losing his pace and his tactical awareness due to his age and you will witness more of this in the upcoming season.

I am basing it on what we currently have and Mbiwa is going to be a key player this season. I feel we need a taller and stronger Center Back to compliment him and that’s something we are lacking the most.

Only reason Gutti is not starting is so Pardew can flirt with him on the bench more and get to know him more before proposing to move in.

    Turkist-

I agree that Mbiwa will challenge Taylor’s place this year but i don’t think Taylor should just be knocked out of the team as Yanga didn’t play very well at CB last season and he needs a lot of improving and getting used to the premiership before he is ready. As for colo, when he came back our defence looked a lot stronger and it is a joke to say colo isnt as good as Mbiwa. Like i said, show me evidence… Colo’s awareness is still excellent as far as im concerned from watching him last season.

if theres so much promise and last season “he was on the brink of first team” why has campbell had little game time in pre season. i thought he would have started or cme on at half time for one of the games soo far so he at least gets half a game, maybe today half time??

The sad thing is that most pardew out brigade are blind to the other side of the argument, I could explain away most of pardews ‘faults’ but there would be little point as the people calling for his head seem the most stubborn to change their views.

Im not a pardew lover, im a he did well before, we’re stuck with him give him another chance-er.

    Mbiwa at LB ???
He should be starting CB with Colo.
Dummett or Santon should be at LB.

Giving everyone a run out is great but lets try to get people playing in their preferred starting positions.

    Pardew sucks.
    The whole bloody club sucks.
