Newcastle Midfielder Having Medical – Praise From Pardew

News in a number of papers today that Newcastle midfielder Dan Gosling is very close to a move to Crystal Palace, where he will link up with his former manager at Plymouth Argyle – Ian Holloway – who gave him his first team debut as a 16 year-old seven years ago.

Dan Gosling – three seasons at Newcastle

Dan joined Newcastle three years ago on a free transfer from Everton, but has failed to win a place in the Newcastle first team, and over three seasons he’s played only 26 times for Newcastle with one goal.

The 23-year-old is keen to end his spell in the north-east, where he has been plagued by injury, and it will be good for Dan to get regular football elsewhere.

This is what Alan Pardew said about Gosling  today:

“When he was fit, Dan was behind some fantastic players – Yohan Cabaye, Check Tiote, Moussa Sissoko and Vurnon Anita,” ““With the game time he’d get it wouldn’t be fair for me to have him in the squad.”

“We need the room in terms of the finance to get other players in. We wish him well. He’s been a terrific lad on the training field here. He was never anything other than 100% committed in his training.

“Like all players, there’s a time for them to find their first-team place. I think Dan feels at Crystal Palace he’s got a great chance of making a career where he’s a regular starter.”

Those are good words from the Newcastle manager, and Dan himself, even though he didn’t play much on Tyneside, has said he loved his time at Newcastle – so that’s always good to hear.

His agent yesterday told the South London Press that the player was having a medical at Crystal Palace, so a fee must have been agreed with Newcastle and also personal terms agreed with the player.

That will mean Dan is the fourth Englishman to depart St. James’ Park this summer, following Danny Simpson (QPR), Steve Harper (Hull) and James Perch (Wigan) in seeking to play their football elsewhere.

We expect an announcement that Dan has signed for Crystal Palace any time now – assuming he passes his medical of course.

    Dan was worth a try.
OK, so it didn’t work out for us.
I’m sure Dan was happy to get the chance and
at least have top medical treatment to get him
    fit again.

He never really filled his early potential he showed at everton after the injury he picked up.

Further injuries and lack of first team games has held him back even more.

In the best interest of Newcastle and Gosling to move on really.

I know he had his injuries but has never proven to of any real value to our squad. At best would only be a fringe player next season anyway.

1 gud thing about our transfer market is that we are getting rid of terrible players which is gud but replacements are needed. To make a gud team to challange for trophys and europe again. Just need ashley to spend decently over next few windows. Unlikley though isnt it?

I’m sure we got Gosling when he was out of contract. Moyes was furious cos he wanted him to sign another contract but was too late with the offer. Rodwell as far as I know was never a target.

There you go, some transfer news.

I’d love to see Kinnears objectives, aims and priorities.

I’m sure I’d not be the only one who’d be interested to know just what he’s done that’s productive in the last seven weeks and what he has planned that will add value to the club.

I also wonder if Mike Ashley’s asking the same questions or whether he’s just put all of his trust into Kinnear and lets him get on with things?

Given that Kinnear’s still with us, I suspect it’s the latter and that is frightening, neglectful, disgraceful!

Ashley, get a grip man. Persuade Kinnear that he really should spend more (all) time with his family….. Poor sods!

He was never really given a chance, same as many of our up and coming players. The club has to strike the right balance if we are to progress and letting players like Routledge go without giving them a chance in the first team is inexcusable.

Just hope Fergusson and Campbell get a chance this year.

    Good luck to him.

He was a hot prospect at Everton, but like many players with huge potential, his career has had the brakes applied by injury – Lets face it, if he had not become injured, he would not have ended up here.

Decent lad, hopefully he goes on and stays injury free and enjoys his time with his first club.

    Re post on previous article

I would take bent, altho not sure how he would work with cisse.

Its been said before but i see cisse as a andy cole type striker, and he was made by number 10s – beardsley sheringham and yorke.

We dont have that – as much as pardew thinks sissoko is one he’s not.

But in terms of back up to cisse i can think of worse.

    Remy would be a deffo

It might look like Paul Ince’s tactics sheet, as spotted on MOTD2 just before he was sacked, that had a picture of the goal with an arrow pointed at it and the word ‘Shoot.’ That was priceless.

I can only hope that there is a plan and that work is underway. I expect JK, Pards and GC must have drawn up a list of targets. I’d love to see it, though. Kinnear’s list probably has Gazza and Redknapp on it.

Yeah, it’s hard to see Bent and Cisse working well together. They’re too similar in certain respects and neither can play wide. I think at that at the right price and on reasonably low wages Bent would be very handy to have in the squad, especially when Cisse was away on ACON duty. I’ like to think that he’d love to stay in the PL and play for us so he would accept a wage cut – I’m pretty sure he said he was keen on NUFC.

For me HBA is the ideal number 10 and I hope we play him there this season. It would mean signing at least one quality winger (which we should do anyway); I’m still hoping that something materialises with Sinclair.

Pardew once complained about our thin squad. It’s all good shifting the dead wood but we need replacements and additions. What the funk is the transfer window for. We need to take advantage and start signing players ASAP. I can hear Pardew’s shpeel now – “we tried to get them over the line but we are not willing to pay over the odds”

    I’m getting rather furious

This is about the ‘unknown’ man who has just gotten the Barcelona job..

“…Martino instead took a year out from the game before returning to his beloved Newell’s and guiding the club to their first title since 2004 in the space of just 18 months. The achievement was all the more remarkable when you consider that Newell’s had finished 19th and 18th in the two seasons before his appointment.
His final game in charge of Newell’s was the semi-final of this year’s Copa Libertadores when they lost to Atletico Mineiro on penalties. Were the fans annoyed with this defeat? No, instead they went outside Martino’s house and started chanting his name and waving flags to thank him for the way he had transformed the club.
Stylistically Martino seems to fit in well with Barcelona. He likes to play a 4-3-3 with a false number nine, but has shown flexibility with his formations and tactics in the past.
South American coaches have had a chequered history after moving to Europe but if anyone has a chance of succeeding, it looks like Martino is a man who fits the bill.”

so here’s a man that very few people have heard of…about the same age as Pardew yet he’s regarded as a progressive manager who sets up his team to play a beautiful passing game and has therefore gotten the Barcelona Job…and what do we get…a 50 year old gambler who is stuck in the past playing 4-4-2 til he dies of gets sacked whatever comes first.

…and everyone out there says there’s no-one out there better than Pardew…well don’t you believe it…me grannie knows more about
football than Pardew…he’s f****g pathetic and this club will go no-where til he’s sacked.

If every fan at the first game puts 70 quid in a hat then we’ll have enough money to pay up his contract!

    I’m in!

KT we were never ever in for Rodwell and thats saying something because we were/are linked with practically every player in the world. We got Gosling because the club was supposed to offer him a new deal in writing before a certain date and they did not. He was free, English and had potential, I remember being stoked we got him. Cant blame the higher ups for him never being fit and not impressing when given the chance.

Jeez now if we could get some actual wingers on our team and get rid of Obertan and Jonas we’d be looking better.
