  • 17 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:44 PM

    @ JB

I mentioned that quote a couple of weeks ago and is true in Pardews case. Same style of football and woefull corners.

Looks like the script writers have been at it again for the soap opera that is NUFC :

    . Kinnear in

.Star (and only) striker using his religion to try and jump ship despite being caught out gambling

    . No players signed

I sometimes think I am part of some Truman show and people watch my misfortune as an NUFC fan.

  • 18 Bearsize // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:44 PM

Is anybody scared that shola will get a new contract? I am!

  • 19 hazzy // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:45 PM

That picture of Cisse means nothing without proof he refuses to wear the wonga insignia for religious reasons.
His agent said he thinks the company are unethical… nothing to do with religion

  • 20 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:45 PM

    JB
Lol you’d think he’d show a bit of tact at the moment!

  • 21 Patoon // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:46 PM

    do u disagree

  • 22 Ashton // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:48 PM

I would rather have JFK as a manager than
Pardew. There is no way we can play worse football than what we are doing right now.

Sack Pardew and replace him with JFK. JFK will be in charge for a while and he will surely fu(k up big time and get a heart attack and hopefully will die as a result of that. Then we will replace him with a good manager and everyone will win.

  • 23 Toon_Tom // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:48 PM

To an extent yes. He makes some very questionable decisions but I stand by my view that we should give him one more season. Make or break. He nearly got us to the champions league, then nearly got us relegated. So last chance in my opinion.

I do understand the frustration with him tho so don’t get me wrong.

  • 24 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:48 PM

    Toon_Tom
Fun fact, it’s about quarter past 3 in the morning in India

  • 25 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:49 PM

    @ hazzy

How much more proof do you need ? . What do you think he was doing in the casino like, walking his dog ? .

He has been found out and this so called “taking a stand for his religion” has blew up in his face big time.

  • 26 bobby jay // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:49 PM

Starting to get nervous about our striker options now. I knew cisse was being a dick from the start as I have actually played blackjack with him in aspers, so this problem with wonga was just a smokescreen to get a move to anzhi. But with the stuttering and stalling over a new striker I’m afraid we’ll start the season with shola up on his own with Campbell coming off the bench. Can’t think where the goals will come from.

  • 27 hazzy // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:51 PM

Thats not my point. I’m not saying he is a great muslim.
I’m simply pointing out he hasn’t refused to wear the wonga symbol because of religious reasons simply ethical reasons. Two different things entirely

  • 28 manxpie // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:52 PM

JB he certainly loves that coat like don’t he?
he was wearin that when he signed and hazzy his agent has said jack shit which is rather strange don’t ya think!!??

  • 29 Patoon // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:52 PM

    Toon_Tom

I honestly think he got lucky with the 5th place, i hav said all along that id giv him 10 games 2 prove himself but when u c that he isnt trying anything in pre season and plays Shola up front when he had gouffran and Campbell on the bench, clueless going forward and terrible at the back, i can’t c this change and think the 10 games would now b better letting a new manager put his stamp on things, ie, Poyet, even bring in 2 new coaches, one attacking and 1 defending

  • 30 jeff // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:54 PM

Aye mate very worrying, you know your in the sh1te when your relying on shola to get ya a result

Why can shola tuck them away in friendlies but no other bastard can?

  • 32 croftus5678 // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:56 PM

i have to question some morals of some fans on here sometimes !

i thought that was the best tiote has played for over a season.
guti did amazing in a free cm position coering dm/cm/am and wings aswell as not losing the ball and going forward whenever he could.
and on the team ^^ they never played long ball and alsways built up from the back with lots of through pass’s !
dont get me wrong i see some bad points in that game but a lot of good points also and realise i cant have everything i want aslong as theres improvement and tbh there was a lot of improvement over the team that nearly got relegated last season.

  • 33 Ashton // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:56 PM

    manxpie

In addition to improving fitness levels and teams chemistry. Pre season is also about trying different football styles and figuring out a specific way of playing football. We are not doing that. Which is crucial to us because we lack those aspects of football, big time. We are playing the same way we did last season which nearly got us relegated. So why do it over and over again?? We don’t have the players to play long balls effectively and everyone can see that. So why the hell is our retarded manager persisting with this style??

  • 34 manxpie // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:57 PM

ashton wat a tosser you are like!!!!!!
    simple as that really!!

  • 35 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:57 PM

    @ hazzy

Well I’m sure there are a lot of people that think the amount footballers get paid is un-ethical (including me) . But can you see Cisse giving 80% of his weekly pay packet away ? , not likeley.

  • 36 hazzy // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:58 PM

oh sory the agent actually said “He feels that it is immoral….,” the Senegal international’s agent Madou Diene told CNN.
Again nothing mentioned there about religion

  • 37 Galtierez // Jul 23, 2013 at 10:59 PM

Cisse is in Aspers on a regular basis, loads of people would tell you that even before the Wonga carry on.

  • 38 Toon_Tom // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:01 PM

Tads – gosh his parents must have forgot to disconnect his wifi ;)

  • 39 Toonfan8 // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:02 PM

we need gomis and remy….and we have to play players in their best position, Sissoko was never winger, cabaye never DM…sell Cisse, he can gamble in Russia…
    debuchy,mbiwa,colo,santon
    sissoko-anita–cabaye
    HBA—-Gomis——Remy
    bench–saylor,williamson,haidara,tiote,bigi,jonas,marveaux,obertan,shola,campbell

  • 40 Toon_Tom // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:03 PM

Patoon – we were lucky due to other teams underachieving and dropping points – but we still had to pick up points in which we did and played some solid football with some class goals.

I’m not Pards’ biggest fan, but there are no other available managers that would take the job with Cashley and JFk as their boss

  • 41 hazzy // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:03 PM

Mike Ashley has made more than every staff member of NUFC in the last year by sitting on his arse… Is that immoral?
Tiger Woods has made over a Billion Dollars in his career hitting a ball with a techno stick.
Oprah Winfrey is a billionaire due to asking worthless questions to celebrities.
Jensen Button before ever winning a race in F1 had made tens of millions of pounds more than Cisse could ever dream of yet he has attempted to fund for a hospital in his local village out of what is a an absolute pittance to the mentioned people above who are no more deserving of their money than he is

  • 42 manxpie // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:06 PM

croftus well said mate but it was a friendly in early pre-season with only shola up front we were supposed to show our different forms of attack!!
and arfa n cabeye n tiote were supposed to show how world class they were with every single touch!!
and guti was supposed to score at least 3 own goals (wat the hell was he doing!!!)
and we cant forget shola can we?
wat the hell was he doin scoring a goal and not getting injured in the 1st few minutes!!
    :)
i think some people on here are dissapointed that vuckic hasn’t got injured yet just so they can’t get wound up over summit!

lol nice rebuttal there. I bet you feel pretty good about yourself right now calling someone on the internet a tosser.

Anyway I feel like I provided a good argument against your abject Pardew nutugging. And I only used reason and logic to do so without throwing pity insults at you. Shame you couldn’t do otherwise.

  • 50 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:13 PM

    @ hazzy

What does that prove ?, that they all have substantial amounts of money .

The point is Cisse is moaning about money issues in a society where he is top of the financial food chain . It is a lot easier to cry about intrest rates when you get payed most peoples yearly salary in a week.

  • 51 manxpie // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:14 PM

ashton that was a reply to your post at 22 so yeah i feel very good fella i just hope no one that you know or god forbid yourself dies from a heart attack hey!!!?

  • 52 Toonfan8 // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:15 PM

what about Leandro Damiao as Cisse replacement…great striker and easily could be new no. 9….
    Damiao 20, Gomis 6, Remy 6
Cisse 15….more options forward and Damiao is better than Cisse

  • 53 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:15 PM

That’s not actually cisse’s agent, he’s managed by sports and more ltd apparantly and that blokes not on there listings

  • 54 drewcessford // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:17 PM

What kind of experience is Tav going to get at Shrewsbury, that’s a backwards step, may as well send him for regular games in the Championship or sell him

  • 55 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:20 PM

Not saying Cisse is a bad person and I know he helped out that Cory lad who was sick last season.

if he wants to leave then fair enough, just have the decency to tell us fans rather stringing us along with the “wonga is immoral” story.

  • 56 manxpie // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:21 PM

hazzy so the title says religious beliefs and then says according to the players agent that surprisingly doesn’t have an interview with him mmmmmmmmmm
yeah thats lots of proof there like!
thats an american news outlet too but hey they might get exclusives over there about a wee club in the north east! :)

  • 57 hazzy // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:21 PM

Cisse is quite simply no where near the ‘Top’ of the financial food chain and after the money he gives to his charity he comes out with about the same as the shop owner across the road from my house. He is well off no doubt but he ain’t anywhere near as rich as you think.
In fact his moral stand is supporting those who are less fortunate than himself and have to get a wonga loan. I say fair play to him

  • 58 jimmysmith // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:22 PM

Man City away is starting to loom large and dark. I’m anticipating it with genuine excitement but also an increasing and nagging terror, bit like those consecutive cup finals we made in the late 90′s, each one against top sides, and we all know what happened there.

  • 59 Ashton // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:23 PM

    manxpie

If it makes you feel very good about yourselves than well done. You must have a very interesting and fulfilling life.

I wish JFK to get another heart attack and die as result. I would rather see a fat old cockney die than to see my club ruined. I have to say though I would be much happier to see Pardew get a heart attack and die. It would make me very happy.

Players income doesn’t just stop at wages m8.

He is a millionaire is he not ? , the guy could live of intrest for the rest of his life comfortably without lifting a finger.

Go to Newcastle city centre and ask everyone that passes if they are worth multi millions. I guarentee you will be there a hell of a long time.

as an outsider here (as in i dont care if he stays or goes tbh)
he’s on around 50k+ pw and has to give 2.5% away to charity through his religion so….i think he’s better off than 99% of us on here tbh.
and no one “has” to take a wonga loan ! i just dont get why some are so mad at it as there is no pressure sale or anything it just says if you really cant wait for the money we will lend it for double back.

if you was going to lose your house bacause you had no money and had bad credit i bet you wouldnt be calling them then ! its just advertisement for a legal business if it was wrong it would be against the law.

Soccer and more ltd were his agents until he left them in May. His agent was Nickolay Guido for Soccer and more ltd.
Manxpie his agent simply says exactly what i posted. The title is religious beliefs is simply because that’s what has been reported. Could you now send me a link of any proof whatsoever that Cisse has ever refused to wear a wonga shirt at any point for any reason you can think of?

  • 73 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:38 PM

These multiple accaunts have to stop like.

Ed can you find some way to have people only be able to use one log in.

    @ manx

I think it was you that watched a different game. All we did was pass the ball across the back four or midfield, run out of options and then float the ball up to Shola or out wide right to Sissoko or Debuchy.

It got marginally better towarda the end of the game but overall very similar to last seasons dross. Why is it no one but Pardew wants Sissoko right wing ? .

  • 74 manxpie // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:39 PM

  • 75 Ashton // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:39 PM

    manxpie

Our first half team had the backbone of our best XI and probably was the strongest team we’ve put on the pitch in the last year or so. And we were utterly useless. Our style of play was hoofing it to Shola and hoping for something special to happen. Exactly like last season.

It’s not working. It didn’t work last season and it’s not working now and it will never work because we lack the players to play that style effectively.

  • 76 hazzy // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:43 PM

I do not care whether Cisse goes or not but the rubbish said about a genuinely nice guy who perosnally finds endorsing a company such as wonga immoral is ludicrous. He kept us up last season.
    Croftus
your right that muslims are supposed to give a percentage to charity but as we have seen he ain’t much of a muslim when he’s pictured in a casino but he does give far more than that away to charity. My point is nobody on here if they were playing football for NUFC as there number nine would say pay me 400 quid a week so we can fund some better players. Everyone would be asking for the same as he’s on.

  • 77 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:43 PM

but the fact that his agent aint making a huge fuss about it and the club aint saying anything about it tells me that there leaving the press to have a field day
so imo cisse wants a new contract and the club are holding there ground
in other words no ethical or religious beliefs involved at all just my oppinion but if he was looking for a move the agent would be shouting his head off don’t you think??

  • 79 cbtoon82 // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:46 PM

I very rarely comment on this blog, but i read it a lot. It seems football manager has a lot to answer for.

Pre season is about fitness and tweaking positions/tactics. So what if Shola started with Campbelland gouffran on the bench. He scored.

Before I get cut down, no I don’t think Shola should be a starting striker. However ALL of the squad needs to be match fit. Hence the reason why ALL of the squad should be used in pre season.

    Also we need signings ASAP.

  • 80 jimmysmith // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:46 PM

We aren’t rubbish are we, we’re just hapless, a bit amateurish relative to the better run clubs both large and small. Ashley is reasonably on top of The Toon as marketing tool but he just can’t find the right bodies in to run the joint. I don’t see it changing anytime soon, until Ashley starts taking a more hands on role to make more of it, but lets face it, he’s got far greater responsibilities and priorities.

  • 81 croftus5678 // Jul 23, 2013 at 11:47 PM

    @75 ashton

i disagree i only see us building from the back and trying to play the through ball to get behind them through goofy or getting our wingbacks to get to the corner flags to cause problems !

i have come to the conclusion though that every fan only see’s what they want to see and ignores that which they dont want to see as i am prob guilty of myself as much as i try to be objective.

    JFK junior

If JFK died of heart attack. Deep down you will be happy. Spare me all this quasi-politically-correct-morality and just admit it. You won’t be sad because you don’t know him personally and he means nothing to you. The only reason you might feel a bit of discomfort when you hear of his death is because you put yourself in his place or the people who loved him and that will make you feel bad.

So if you logically think about it. It makes no sense to feel awful about something so natural.

Goffy wasn’t even playing in the first half. My comment that you responded to was mainly about our first first half. Even in the second half I saw M’biwa hoofing it over and over again which is strange because he rarely did that when he played for montpellier.

Based on form, it looks like this is our starting lineup

    4-4-1-1

    ——————Elliot———————
    Santon—Collo—MBiwa—Dummet
    Obertan–Sissoko–Anita–Gouffran
    ——————-Vuckic——————
    —————Shola Ameobi————

ashton how about just for 1 minute you think that of the people that read this blog, that someone has lost someone that has died of a heart attack and maybe very recently!!!!!!!!!!!!

you seriously are a tosser if you can’t actually comprehend that possability and show the respect that ED has actually outlined in the last few days but i feel i’m talkin to a arse tbh!!

  • 91 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 24, 2013 at 12:03 AM

    Ashton
There’s a difference between whether or not you feel sorrow for someone’s death or not and wishing for someone’s death

Not feeling sorrow is normal, especially if you’ve never met the person, perhaps at tops sympathy for his family
    That’s normal

Wishing somebody dead because there not the best person for the job at the club you support..
That makes you a Cnut tbh

  • 92 Rake // Jul 24, 2013 at 12:04 AM

Negativity attracts Negativity. Negative football tactics breads negative footballers. Why are we always playing front of the opposition?. The players aren’t positive they don’t attack defenders. The wingers run towards the RB/LB and pass the ball backwards to our RB/LB again this is negative. Pardew negative manger has a negative team that play negative football.

It’s simple physics you get out what you put in. Negative output = Negative input. Pardew installing the ouput and players producing for lack of a better word input.

  • 93 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 24, 2013 at 12:07 AM

    @ manx

How many players have you heard of on the oposing team last night ? . Bar our strikeforce that is pretty close to to Pardews first choice number 11.

Pre season is to get the players fit and drill your tactics for the coming campaign. So far I have seen the same tactics and formation that almost got us relegated a couple of months ago.

I have listened to people making excuses for Pardew for the best part of a year now yet nothing changes. He has all the tools (multiple internationals) yet still has us playing worse football than Stoke.

  • 94 Ginger // Jul 24, 2013 at 12:07 AM

Overall there was a lot to take in from tonight.

    - Shola in the box is a dangerous man.
    - Gutierrez played excellent in a CM position.
    - Marveaux is much better in the middle.
    - Ben-Arfa looks a shadow of his former self and is also not good in the middle. Should only be played out wide.
    - Santon is excellent going forward.

Many of us already knew this, so lets hope Pardew realises.

What is so awful about wishing death to people you dislike? You do realize that wishes seldom come true right?

If you think about it logically your attitude toward my statement makes no sense. I realize it’s an etiquette thing. But the beauty of being anonymous is we can say what we think without worrying about it’s social repercussions.

Aren’t they supposed to be the engine room of the team; calm and resolved, determined to see the game played in the opposition half. A wall for the defence, a springboard for the attack. Strong in tackle, dominant in the skies, artful of pass. This land, this realm, this…oh, you get the pixture….

We’ve all had people who’ve died. People we’ve loved and love. Death is natural and everyone dies you, me and everyone else. I don’t know why you are freaking out because of something true and real.

Wishing JFK’s death means nothing and will make no difference what so ever. Because in a long enough timeline he will die. And there is nothing you can do about it. As a statement it’s something perfectly reasonable to say but it’s not said because everyone is afraid of death and we just wish to ignore it as much as possible. So we just strongly frown upon anything similar to what I said because it makes things easier. So when you insult me for wishing death to JFK you are not doing it for JFK or other people. It’s because of purely selfish reasons.

What I really want for the next game is to give Vuckic, Anita and Marv more game time. These are all players who could step up and I think they need the opportunity to show it. Would love to see something like…
    ——Cabs- Anita
    HBA-Vuckic-Marv
    ——-Gouff

To me that is a team full of creativity. It may be a disaster as it may be just too attacking but both Cabs and Anita are more than capable of putting in a tackle and are composed on the ball. Moussa and Tio are both good but would just like to see us try something different.

Of course I wouldn’t say that. I already explained that but maybe it just flew over your head. I wouldn’t say it because it precipitates people into judging me. And profiling me as a person and deciding whether they like me or not. And that can very well, affect my live negatively. Not because my statement is flawed or horrible but because it goes against the social etiquette. You don’t tell a pretty woman you don’t know that you want to (insert a sexual act that turns you on) ,you will think about it and you won’t feel terribly awful. But if somehow you said it. You will regret it and feel awful about yourself. It’s the same thing really.

But here, I don’t really care about what people think of me. Because no one knows anything about me. I can say what I truly think without worrying about anyone. You should try it.

@ Ginger – 108 – don’t see how you can say Anita and Cabaye can’t play together. Last season they only started 8 games together. 5 of which were in the first two months of the season when Anita was settling in. 4 of the 8 were when Anita was playing LB. So they’ve only played 4 times as CMs together and only 2 times since Cabaye came back from injury in January (Man City and Reading). The majority of Vurnon’s premiership starts (10 of 17) came between November and start of January when Cabaye was injured during which time he was one of the few shining lights. They really haven’t been given a go together!

It’ll be a shame if Colo misses pre season game/games for it, trying to get him and mbiwa workin together. ill probs get slaughtered for this but though i think anita should get some more game time, i dont think he should be as highly rated as you all think. from his last season, he was extremely inconsistent, and did sometimes look good, most of the time looked off pace and out of the game. though i did like what i saw sometimes and i hope he can imrpove because he has potential.

as for cambell, although he has a great record for the reserves hes not convinced me yet and i wanna see more pf him in a friendly before i can really say but i wanna see him out on loan this season as i dont think hes ready yet

  • 137 Mister Tuff // Jul 24, 2013 at 1:59 AM

uncertain -no problem – have not commented on the match -I know it’s a friendly -blah blah bah. But for an experienced player -the captain -to grip someone by the throat (even thought the player was a pest) defies logic – he should have known better. I noted in the melee afterwards Sissoko gripped a players face. What is the point of getting sent off in a pre season friendly.

  • 138 kaarek0ng // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:00 AM

Both Santon and Debuchy looked very dangerous going forward at times today! Gouffran and Vukic look awsome in front of a new season. Looks like we’re struggling with our man-marking and positioning in defence thow, and our central midfield is a mess at times. But i hope alot of it’s due to the new hard training regime. It’s preseason and some of the lads looked as if they knew abit too well that it was a friendly ;)

but did you see debuchy get slapped the fella needed new shorts lol?

  • 142 Uncertain Toon // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:11 AM

Mister Tuff – Aye, noticed Sissoko as well mate. He also booted ball away a few times. Debuchy overreacted at a player, Taylor diving in all over the place as usual and loads of gobbin off at ref occurring. None of them looked happy to me, there’s more goin on than we know and probably will ever know mate.
I’m not arsed about pre-season friendlies to be fair, they’ll focus on first 11 a week prior to city game. At least colo can’t get injured in the stands!

  • 143 Mister Tuff // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:15 AM

manx – ref the Debuchy incident -I couldn’t see exactly what happened -saw the blokes hand move across but could not see exactly what happened.
Generally – I assume over the last two games -that there is a distinct possibility that Obertan and Williamson -will be with us next season -which to me is a bit disappointing.

  • 144 manxpie // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:17 AM

uncertain would you like to be slapped in the face which is a sending off offence btw and sissoko told the fella that dived on to the floor after collo touched him wat kinda shit you’ll get if he does it again so just taught him a lesson really

  • 145 2_goal_tino // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:23 AM

    @136 -luke.r

Disagree about Anita, agree entirely about Campbell.

I don’t think many people are saying Anita is world class but he needs to be given a chance. Cabaye, Sissoko and Tiote are always picked but for some reason in the past 6 months it just hasn’t worked well very often. People want to see some sort of change or at least attempt at a change and seeing as Anita is the only really viable option, he’s getting a lot of support. He was a fantastic player at Ajax and really think he can make a difference. The problem is that he’s a good all-rounder without excelling at anything in particular so he goes slightly unnoticed. He’s not a defensive midfielder (Tio), he’s not powerful (Sissoko), he’s not creative (Cabaye). Instead he does what he has to do with little fuss.

r.e Campbell – don’t know how people are proclaiming him so confidently based on reserves alone. He is not ready to play first team football. In his appearances (granted they have been brief), he hasn’t done anything of note other than passing it 5 yards to Marv who then assisted Cisse in the win over Stoke. He needs to go out on loan, it’s going to hamper him staying with us this season.

  • 146 manxpie // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:27 AM

tuff the guy slapped debuchy across the face no doubt and to be honest willo is absolutely fine by me for 4th choice cb he’s prooved his worth for me but ober needs to be replaced and we need a natural lw n hopefully an experienced 1
wev can cope wit a young up n coming rw but most of all we need a top striker

  • 147 Uncertain Toon // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:30 AM

Manx – Hear what your sayin, just thought it was typical handbags with Debuchy mate. I think he could be a top player for us, but he’s definitely got a short fuse. Definite elbows on Colo understand his reaction. Gouffy got a proper slap at end and he just seemed to get on with it.
You’d think Benny would be the temperamental one even more so when he’s playin pap, but he seems to be the happiest bloke around!

  • 148 manxpie // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:35 AM

uncertain yeah i seen that on gouff n i agree wit ya on debuchy he certainly is a hothead lol

  • 150 Uncertain Toon // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:44 AM

Manx – Felt sorry for Gouff last season when he was getting brought off game after game when he was one of the better players out there. Can see him kicking off next season if it keeps happening. Havin said that, he might not even get if we get some strikers in(fingers crossed). He only got 3 goals but they were all pretty important.
Is Torq gone for good? Shame if he is, seemed like a sound bloke. I haven’t seen wot was said, must have been proper out of order.
Hopefully Gomis will come in, i’d take him no probs, but if Pardew takes him off on 60 mins to put Shola on i’ll blow a gasket!

  • 152 Rooster // Jul 24, 2013 at 2:52 AM

At this moment the very best I can see us achieving in the coming season is just like our first three games win loose n draw, that gives us around 50/55 points I think, if we speculate a bit which we surely must for god sake then maybe it will be a bit better but at this moment in time mid table is IMO the very best we will achieve, we are just so inconsistent and our manager from what I have seen already this season not learned from last, if his remit is to keep us in the premeirship, he may well do that but it will make for lot of uncomfortable performances I would say, we need to shape up and shape up fast!!!!

    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/328234/West-Ham-hopeful-over-deal-for-QPR-striker-Loic-Remy

Just what, if anything is Kinnear doing? Has he done anything constructive in the let six or seven weeks?

  • 154 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 24, 2013 at 3:37 AM

Personally, until the whole set-up is sorted on the footballing side I’ll expect nothing but mediocrity. Mid table finishes. After all, that’s exactly how we are set-up so we shouldn’t expect anything else.

Without two new strikers in we are set-up for mid table again. I think that much is clear. With two added strikers in we have a chance to progress into the top eight.

It’s all down to JK, not Pardew for me. It’s upto him to get these players in first and then I’ll judge Pardew on how he uses a well built squad, something he hasn’t had at his disposal so far. It’s always been lacking in numbers and quality in depth due to poor boardroom decisions. This for me has no doubt affected our performances.

So come on JK, show us what you have got in your locker.

yeah anita didnt get much of a chance but i think there was a reason he didnt really get played. i thought last season he just wasnt really good enough. he should have last season really coz we proper needed to change something in that midfeild! yeah he is a very good all rounded, thought he was very good at running players down and pressuring people down though.

yeah i dont no how people are really singing his praise already though im sure one day he will be a very good player. ive just not seen owt of it yet. give him some championship games and all will be good. hes so young hes got loads of time!

  • 156 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jul 24, 2013 at 4:32 AM

IF, the summer continues like this and we get only about 2 mediocre signings (or less) then surely Kinnear is directly responsible?

It is after all his only responsibility (according to the statement) so if we don’t considerably improve the squad then he will have abjectly failed and should be treated as such.

Unless, he is there to simply take the flak when Ashley chooses not to spend any of his money?

Fulham have apparantly pulled out for Bent.

Problems with his 80 grand a week wage demands.

If that was a problem at Fulham then he will have a bigger problem with it here.

Please do not come to NUFC!

We need a quality proven in form striker. Not someone out for his last payday who is struggling.

    Ashton,

You talk about the uncle everybody has who thinks he is funny….

You are the cretinous ar$ehole from a supercilious generation that thinks they know everything. Your hope he dies attitude comes from playing death games on your computer where you kill people and die without ever feeling pain or remorse. It makes you feel tough, hard and a big man.

Tell you what – in the real world not that long ago 18 and 19 year lads were defending our country in wars, getting their legs and arms blown off, seeing their mates die with guts spilled out, blown up by mines and bombs. .. that uncle you take the pi$$ out of was getting a knock on the door to tell him the son he loved wax never coming home.

You and your hope he dies and your couldn’t give a fcuk attitude make you one of the scumbags of society. If at some stage in your life you feel the searing pain of a heart attack you”ll find out how tough you are then you cretinous sh1t.

  • 161 Premiership Manager // Jul 24, 2013 at 6:05 AM

The last two topics have been more about ego’s on the forum rather than the club.

Ed has stated that the second half was a much better performance however if you take into consideration the disjointed first half, the arguing among the players and the lack of focus and cohesion it doesn’t bode well.

Individually we have a good bunch of players however with the language barrier, playing systems, management hierarchy issues and last seasons abysmal performance there are few indications that it is going to be fixed overnight.

My wife bless her soul has wonderful insight and thinks the best thing that could happen is for Newcastle to go down so that the management team get sacked, Ashley gets disillusioned and sells up and then we bring in a new team to start from scratch building a team with English youngsters rather than foreign players.

Personally I think that would be a disaster, however looking at things from another perspective the squad isn’t that bad.

    RB Santon/Anita/Debuchy
    FB Mbwia/Taylor/Colo/Willo
    LB Hadara/Santon/Jonas
    DM Sissoko/Tiote/Anita
    CM Cabaye/Anita /Sissoko
    AM Cabaye/Marvaux/Vukic/HBA/Goufran
    Forwards Shola/Goufran/HBA/Campbell

We have at least 3 players for each position without using the reserves and many players who can play in a multitude of positions however my worry is there is no natural width should we want to change tactics.

Playing down the middle is fine but if the opposition close it down we will struggle as we did last year.

If we lost Jonas and Shola, (they’ve been a good servants to the club), and bought in 2 natural wingers we’ll still need two proven strikers particularly if Cisse goes.

Marvaux, Goufran and HBA can play wide however they all like to cut in and that is easy to counteract. Without width our attacking options are limited and Pardew and Co need to realise this.

By my estimation we need 3 or 4 players if Cisse goes and we need to offload at least one CM as we have too many players for that position

    Seeing recent comments,
People really getting frustrated and that ends up in keyboard arguments…

Anyway, the game, which I didn’t watch. So, I’ve mainly got questions…

Ed, we “slowed the game down well”, you say. Isn’t the PL and its teams supposed to be fast and furious?

Is Cabaye playing well? Is he orchestrating the team? If not, then our ‘conductor’ is not up to it. Also, should Taylor be starting games now that we have 4 internationals in back? Can this team compete or is there a need for major overhaul, ie. 3-4 new signings? I mean, do we really only need a CF? Is AP trying new things – formations? How are our set plays coming along?

    Bills,
    Completely agree with that one!

On Harford, funny that his reasons for not joining were the same as my reasons for not wanting him. ie. It wasn’t a job that he was suited to.

  • 168 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2013 at 7:14 AM

On the game, that Ameobi chap looks a good player! I think we should look to build a team around him.

Seriously though, I missed it, but a friend told me we were under heavy pressure for the first part of the game. We seem to be starting games slowly, hopefully that can be put down to still getting fitness levels up, rather than a lack of motivation or focus.

    PM,
Maybe your wife should start posting if she wants a clear out and a re build. I’d be happy for a few of the underacheivers to be shipped out and some young hungry talent to be bought by the club. It would most likely result in a tough season, but the players will be all the better for it. I expect Villa to have a much better year this year after doing something very similar last year.

  • 172 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2013 at 7:24 AM

    Jail,
It is a case of rock and hard place with Pards and Kinnear. Even if it weren’t to be Kinnear, I doubt people would be too hopeful of someone better coming in.

I am not interested in getting a big name replacement, just someone who can get them playing well, and is cheap as that will need to be factored in. I keep mentioning him as potential coaching staff, but Gary White could be a decent appointment. Never managed at a top level, and is only 31, but his first management appointment was with the British Virgin Islands at the age of 24. He improved them in the FIFA rankings by 28 places, before he left for another role to be replaced by AVB, who took the team backwards. He is now recognised as one of the worlds top qualified professional coaches, and is manager of Guam. Progressive, forward thinking, to outside the box for Ashley? Probably.

Half folk saying we should try new formations and players in different positions. Half saying people being played out of position. So ifls pre season for experimenting or not. Im seriously close to leaving this blog due to ridiculous negativity. Ffs people get behind the team and give them a chance its early days. Ic they are trajning as hard as it appears they will be jaded and we have lkmited striking options. The press are fed from the views of fans on these blog and its adds pressure. I love your optomism I suppose with out hope it becomes quite dreary, I don’t think JfK will be the next manager as it would be heavily advised against by his doctors and family, but I honestly believe that we saw our next manager in talks on Sunday and the news of the meeting was purposely leaked to let Pards know what’s happening.

We got a grip back after colo walked it was a bit heated until the double red card after that it settled a bit and we started playing football

Yes players were out of position but its a pre season so hopefully just experimenting! The lads are another game closer to fitness however benny still looked a little way off and tayls was awful
Shola took his chance well but is seriously highlighted the desperate need for at least one CF and desperately needs some width!!!!

The best of the blog involves those that entertain, inform and educate.

When it comes to football were all students of the game there are just some things that cannot be taught as teaching only goes so far as the inherent nature of fan interferes.

It is similar to you can’t teach a pig to sing, it frustrates you and annoys the pig.

  • 178 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2013 at 7:41 AM

    Sage,
Great at developing talent as well. He wants to manage in the UK as well. I keep trying to think of low cost talented managers who would fit in Ashleys price structure and help the ‘blueprint’ of developing players.

“During his time in Seattle White lead the daily technical operations for the Sounders FC Elite Player Development Program and Washington States coaching education initiatives. During White’s time in Seattle the Washington State / Sounders FC Elite Player Development Program became a powerhouse in the Nation on and off the field and lead the country with there modern player & coaching development initiatives, which in the end forced US Youth Soccers ODP (Olympic Development Program) to modernize and become more elite. During White’s tenure the Washington State / Sounders FC EPD program won eight (8) US Youth soccer championships in two (2) years, these were the first championships that Washington had won in over 15 barren years and made the program California South’s biggest rival in the country. “

    Jail,
I suspect that you are right on Harford. He turned down Kinnear at Forest, and then 5 months later changed his mind and joined him. That for me could be exactly what happens here if Pardew starts the season badly. I imagine Kinnear would pull all the strings though, with Harford more of a figure head and media punching bag.

I just can’t help think that Ashley, even if he was in it for the money, would benefit more by getting someone who can develop players to sell for high fees. Surely he can see that? Anyway, I have to cling onto some optimism or I would go insane following this club! (Some would probably say that by having optimism I am already insane, oh well)

  • 183 Transfer Sage // Jul 24, 2013 at 7:50 AM

Sounds like a good option if things were ever to be changed. Maybe even worth considering approaching him to run the whole youth and reserve set up?

  • 184 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2013 at 7:50 AM

    Tads,
Yeah, these early games are all about getting peoples fitness up. Nothing more, so I won’t read anything into the results. The later friendly games though should see us starting to play a more likely opening day squad, so are more of a yard mark. As long as players are working hard, and putting in a shift for fitness purposes then I’m happy at the minute.

I don’t think our lack of strike options needs highlighting mind! I like Shola, always have, but I hope he moves on for his own career. He has a shot at playing in the World Cup if he moves and plays regularly. I’d rather he put himself first then the club who he has served well, and been well compensated, but gets huge amounts of unfair abuse from various corners of support.

  • 186 Ian Toon // Jul 24, 2013 at 7:51 AM

Lil- I spent three weeks in June, in Richmond, Virginia and met a number of parents involved with little league soccer ( football) and a number were actively seeking coaching qualifications. The game at a young level is never stronger because many parents see it as a more refined less brutal sport than their brand of football.
Mind it’s a big step for a coach at the senior level to move into our game at the highest level.

  • 187 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2013 at 7:52 AM

    Sage,
I think that would be an opportunity he would jump at. Him and Bramley working together to develop our players would be a huge step forward from Dave Watson with the U18′s and Steve Stone with those making the transition!

  • 188 jimmysmith // Jul 24, 2013 at 7:52 AM

Expecting a crowd of over 95 000 for that game, the largest in the history of LFC, and the opposition have a coach that also could do a job at the Toon I’m sure, his teams play lovely fast breaking football.

  • 189 Jail for Ashley // Jul 24, 2013 at 7:53 AM

    JfKj,
I believe MH was being brought in to act as manager under instruction of JfK when Pards walks or gets pushed, as we all suspect JfK has been brought in to undermine Pardew and MH was to be brought in to further reduce Pards power only Mackem Mick didn’t fancy being associated with such a ploy maybe he and Pards have shared a few beers in the past,
the guy is certainly not a scout but a coach who fancies himself as a manager so I think we’ll be seeing a bit more of him if results don’t drastically improve.

    Ian,
I don’t think it is that difficult. If you have the coaching ability, then I don’t see it being an issue. AVB managed, and is now regarded as one of the best around. He has a great record, would appear to be a man who can inspire and motivate, he managed to persuade a player on the verge of a call up to the US squad to come and play for Guam as he sold hi his vision for the country.

If it is a case of being unknown, do you honestly think that top international stars have a clue who John Carver or Steve Stone are? Or does a top keeper know who Andy Woodman is? I

  • 193 cyprus // Jul 24, 2013 at 8:00 AM

    Lads,
You’re getting desperate here, or maybe joking? :)
Let’s bring in the manager of Guam (!) instead of AP :)

“It is among the weakest national teams in the world, its highest FIFA ranking was 176th in July 2013 by joining the federation.[2] Since 2012 they have been managed by Gary White.”

  • 194 Transfer Sage // Jul 24, 2013 at 8:01 AM

Yeh, he has international experience, even though its with a low ranked nation….and he seems to be well thought of in developing players.

These young, hungry people are the ones you want to get on board.

I remember an interview with bill gates where he said microsoft will stay the best as he no longer relies entirely on himself as he is getting older…he says you need young, energetic, hungry people bringing new skills and ideas into the company.

So whilst we might not need a young chairmen/manager we need some younger minds in other areas and developing the kids could be the right place.

  • 195 Transfer Sage // Jul 24, 2013 at 8:03 AM

I think if he is a good coach with good ideas then thats all that matters…plenty of very avergae/poor managers go round in circles in the top leagues…its like a closed club where once your in your in for a while and no matter how much you fail somebody else will try you.

  • 196 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2013 at 8:03 AM

I understand the point you make, but we aren’t going to attract the top names in world coaching/management. What we need to do to progress is to give a chance to these young progressive coaches. At worst they won’t do any worse then some of the staff we currently have, and the cost of employing them won’t be that high compared to better known staff.

Lil- I am a big fan of AVB I posted yesterday on him and Levy doing big things at Spurs. I see it more as someone in our game recognising talent at a relatively early age and backing it.

Here we seem to have a constant merrygo round of failed managers and coaches. Younger people in most walks of life often are hungrier to do well. In football though the well known player going into football management is not always to be recommended. The problem at the toon boils down to it being owned and run by people who cannot be remotely compared with those your suggesting.

  • 202 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2013 at 8:10 AM

    Cyprus,
Why not? He has achieved relative success everywhere he has gone. He has moved the British Virgin Islands, Bahamas and Guam a combined 102 places up the FIFA rankings. He has overseen and improved the structure of player development in the US and even got their Olympic Development Program to improve their methods due to his progressive style.

Stick many Prem and Championship managers in those roles and their isn’t a chance they would have anywhere near the same success. AVB couldn’t do as well as he did. But someone took a chance on AVB and look at him now.

I always find your comments /opinions well worth reading.Do your know if Ashley has heard of Gary White ?It sounds a tasty idea putting him in with our other young coaches who have just recently gained top awards. Is it possible to get Ashley information about him or would word filter through to him anyway?

  • 204 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2013 at 8:14 AM

    Ian,
I agree. One crucial point on Gary White is he realised early that coaching was for him, and quit playing pro footy in Aus to take up coaching at a young age. For me, that makes him much more qualified then a pro who retired a few years ago at the age of 33 and because he was known in football over here, gets a top coaching role.

  • 205 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2013 at 8:20 AM

    Nut Meg,
I very much doubt Ashley has heard of him. I think Ashley’s football knowledge extends to what he is told by his close friends. At a guess, word would only filter through if someone else in the UK picked him up. I’m not sure how one would get the information to Ashley, although from what I have read he was involved on the course with our recently qualified staff, so there will be some knowledge within the club.

Youth development is one of my main interests in footy outside of NUFC, as I work with an academy in Malawi trying to get players in to South African football, and used to do youth player scouting back home. I follow a lot of these young and developing coaches with interest, as they effectively do a job that I would have loved to have done.

  • 206 Clematis // Jul 24, 2013 at 8:21 AM

No signings will be made until PSG take our constant ‘we won’t sell Cabaye unless we receive a huge offer’ bait.

Then, and only when PSG are hooked, will we sign one forward to replace Cisse (Gomis) and one additional striker (Remy – if a contract tighter than a duck’s ringpiece can be agreed).

Bent ain’t coming as we won’t pay him £80k a week; the merc will happily sit on his ridiculous Villa wages otherwise.

I’ve got no idea, I’m sure you are right about his ideas. But, it is digging deep, that. No experience (really) and then PL?

If you are looking for obscure coaches who may step up, take a look at Cyprus, rather than Guam!

Ketspaia (yes him, not the blog dude – unless they are one and the same!), coach of local Anorthosis (now Georgia), led them to CL group stage. Jovanovic, led APOEL twice to CL, once in the last 8, with a budget of… 18 mil.!
