The news over the weekend thing to recruit his former Wimbledon player Mick Harford, and most Newcastle fans so distrust Joe Kinnear, that we wondered if this was a kind of coup to build up his coaching team, in case Alan Pardew falters at the start of this season.
Joe Kinnear – mistrust surrounds this man
Joe Kinnear has done that kind of thing before when he took over as Director of Football at Luton Town and he immediately installed himself as the manager, but Joe is now 66 years old and has a weak heart, and surely he doesn’t think he can be a manager again – it would be dangerous to his health.
But we’re not sure.
Alan Pardew today has poured cold water on all those reports and he said this today in the Evening Chronicle:
“He was coming in as a scout as part of the scouting team.: “That’s all he was coming in for.” “I don’t where any other titles have come from that people came up with.” “That’s all he was offered.”
Maybe one reason Harford turned down the job is that many Newcastle fans sent him tweets to his Twitter account telling him not to come, and that he wasn’t wanted – and he correctly read the tea leaves.
That’s a possibility, but the press said it was another blow to Newcastle when he turned down the job, and what a load of cobblers that was.
And Joe has still to bring in his first signing this summer, but at least he’s been quiet and has not given any more of those daft interviews to the press, and that’s a positive thing.
But now he needs to do his job, and bring in a couple of good strikers soon – very soon.
NOTE: We are trying to help Ingo Hagemann who is an International student at Northumbria University studying for an MSc in Sports Marketing, and he’s doing a survey as part of his Masters dissertation. The survey is on the controversial sponsorship between Wonga and Newcastle and it takes only five to ten minutes to complete.
There were some problems earlier but all is OK now – please help Info by taking the survey here – many thanks.
