Lyon Still Waiting for Newcastle Offer For Gomis

11:40 pm, Wednesday, July 24th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 23 Comments

Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that Newcastle are interested in signing Bafetimbi Gomis, so we assume some contact has been made with Lyon on the transfer, but the surprise is that no offer seems to have been lodged yet by Newcastle.

Bafetimbi Gomis – no bid yet from Newcastle?

The French club are trying to sell some of their players to dig themselves out of a financial hole, and since Gomis has a five-year contract at Lyon which runs out next summer they are particularly keen to unload the French International striker this summer.

But the club are still waiting to receive an offer from Newcastle and this is what Aulas told Canal+ today:

“There is an interest of Newcastle for Gomis. We wait for them to come to us with an offer.”

Gomis moved from Saint Etienne in the summer of 2009 for €13M (£11M) and last season he scored 20 goals in 40 games for the French side, and in the previous season he notched 25 goals in 53 appearances.

Gomis has 10 caps for France with 3 goals, and his fee could be as low as £4M, and that would be a bargain.

We’re not sure why the delay in a Newcastle bid, but Gomis himself has even told his agent that Newcastle United is his preferred club – so we really hope Joe Kinnear and company can wrap up a deal this week, and as soon as possible.

Comments welcome.

Note: We are trying to help Ingo Hagemann who is an International student at Northumbria University studying for an MSc in Sports Marketing, and he’s doing a survey as part of his Masters dissertation. The survey is on the controversial sponsorship between Wonga and Newcastle and it takes only five to ten minutes to complete.

There were some problems earlier but all is OK now – please help Ingo by taking the survey here – many thanks.

Joe will get right to it, after he’s painted his mural of Mash onto Pardew’s office wall, Mash modelling starkers, draped over a chaise lounge chair, with just a sheet clasped covering his pecker.

Joe did the Sistine Chapel ceiling, if you don’t believe me, ask him.

At least we are seeing some progress with regards to incoming players to the club. Which judging by the majority of the comments already on recruitment is something we’ve been dying to see.

I’d think if Gomis is finding himself surplus to requirements then there is a good chance that we can get him in.

The fact that we have a strong French contingent and love our strikers especially if they bang the goals in as proved with Ba / Cisse.

Here’s hoping it comes off to not only lift morale but also give the much needed boost and diversity to our attacking line.

    Gomis – new no.9?

Obviously there seems to be a shortfall since JK arrived. We are so slow in attempting to sign new players. We have tracked Remy for ages and he was our no1 target before PEA; yet we are still alledgedly in preliminary talks to sign him!? FFS.

What was the game plan after losing Ba???

Yes, and apparently JFK has recruited Vinny Jones to handle PR and advise on anger management…Look out Colo!!!

  • 15 toonicle // Jul 25, 2013 at 12:44 AM

I simply cannot understand how it takes 3+ weeks to make an offer FFS! We’ve known we need a striker since before January.

Bring Back Laurent Robert, John Tudor….

For information, and Joe told me this in confidence as he’s such a modest guy, he not only painted the Sistine Chapel but designed and built it – then after breakfast built and painted the Forth Bridge.

Don’t underestimate him and toonicle, be patient, Joe’s on the case and Jean-Michel Aulas will just have to wait for the offer. Joe’s talking to Mr Holland, helping him sort out the French economy!

News flash: we just couldn’t get our targets over the line!!!
Maybe if we make a f@#%ing bid we might succeed

  • 18 swemag // Jul 25, 2013 at 2:59 AM

    Get this guy, Vinícius Araújo

12 million pounds and we are set for the next 5 years.

  • 19 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Jul 25, 2013 at 5:10 AM

Why does it not surprise me that we hav,nt made a bid yet !

    Need i say more ?

  • 20 He cannit see man // Jul 25, 2013 at 7:20 AM

No chance we’ll get him as low as £4 million…if at all. We managed to bring in 5 players in the space of 4 weeks in January without JFK.

You’d think with all our efforts being placed on only a couple of players we’d see much quicker progress than this.

Absolute joke man.Fat mans getting none of my money, am buying nothing from hes shops and goin to no games while fattys holding our beloved club to ransom cockney mafia out

  • 22 Harley // Jul 25, 2013 at 8:18 AM

We have to be THE slowest movers in the transfer market in the world.

If we’re after him just go and buy him, I just don’t see the problem. He’s available at a bargain price, even at 7 million.

Just get him for gods sake!

  • 23 giimps // Jul 25, 2013 at 8:34 AM

we probably wont even bid, Cashleys idea to get Pards out,
do badly in the first 10 games, bring in someone new with a promise of cash to spend in January.
He is gambling with the club to get rid of Pardew if im right.
    HWTL
By the way, im basing this on no information at all and have just made it up….i am not an ITK and will never be and if this happens its nowt to do with me !!!!
