One thing that successful clubs do in the transfer market is to be very be quiet, but move very quickly once you have identified your targets, and you cannot accuse Newcastle of doing either of those two this summer.
Bafetimbi Gomis – Tottenham moving in?
And there was some disturbing news today that West Ham are now in the race for QPR’s Loic Remy, and that may be an attractive move for Remy, if he wants to stay in the England capital.
And West Ham have not been shy in splashing out the money in terms of transfer fee (£15M) and the wages (£100K/week) for former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, so they may be formidable competition for Newcastle.
And there was news in the French press only yesterday, that Tottenham have become interested in Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, and if that’s true, there’s some competition for Newcastle, because Spurs can offer Europa League football to the player this season.
So this new news is not good news for Newcastle, and we’ve already lost out on number one target – Saint Etienne’s Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng – who preferred to move to Borussia Dortmund.
And we missed out on Ivory Coast and Vitesse striker Wilfried Bony, who was signed by Swansea City earlier this month for a massive £13M, which will include an initial £11M, plus an extra £2M based on add-ons.
The fee was apparently out of reach for Newcastle, but even Alan Pardew seems to be getting a little impatient with no progress being made on the transfer front for the strikers we so desperately need.
Alan called on his boss Joe Kinnear, to complete some of the deals that are supposedly pending.
Here’s hoping we can still get some of those strikers through the door – but we really have to show more ambition and drive, to get these players on Tyneside this summer.
Comments welcome.
NOTE: We are trying to help Ingo Hagemann who is an International student at Northumbria University studying for an MSc in Sports Marketing, and he’s doing a survey as part of his Masters dissertation. The survey is on the controversial sponsorship between Wonga and Newcastle and it takes only five to ten minutes to complete.
There were some problems earlier but all is OK now – please help Info by taking the survey here – many thanks.

A journalist from talksport thinks we are signing Remy and that a fee may have already been agreed.

I love listening to the Moose on talksport. He’s such a plonker, that he’s actually quite endearing.
As for his ‘sources/ITK’ tips, i woundn’t put my mortgage on it. He’s only interested baecause of the recent reports that WHU were in for Remy.
We’ll see!

Comment #140TDS I wouldnt sack Pardew either at this point. But he’s a lucky boy, and if Ashley had any sense he wouldnt be on a long contract ( we dont know the clauses ) and we;d be looking for better. It doest have to be a Mourinho.

Comment #145Jamseyd24, I totally hear you! Except I don’t leave my desk, I just keep checking every few minutes hoping for some kind of good news. I’m at the point now where I don’t think anything will happen.
Do you think MA realizes, or cares that hundred’s of thousands, if not MILLIONS of supporters and fans around the world are waiting for him to do something, ANYTHING!
I love this club, I was born there but now live in Canada.
It’s getting to the point where I’m almost embarassed to tell anyone this is my team.
MIKE! please do something or sell this club!

Comment #146When will people get it into their heads that JoKe was only appointed to unsettle Pardew into leaving.
He’ll not be too interested about bringing in any players. Remember, a poor squad and results will be laid at Pardews door and JoKe will be seen as blameless.
It wouldn’t surprise me if JoKe isn’t angling to get the managers job back once Pardew has gone. According to JoKe he has won so many honours as a manager, he’ll be able to do the job standing on his head.
It’s more likely that we’ll see first team players leaving than any decent players coming in.
Mr Ashley is flirting with the championship which will cost him big time.
