Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse has finally agreed to wear the club’s Wonga-sponsored shirt, despite his religious beliefs – and that’s fantastic news for Newcastle United.
Papiss Cisse – agrees to wear Wonga shirt – great!!
Cisse is a Muslim and did not travel to Portugal for the club’s pre-season tour, because he had not agreed to wear the Wonga insignia on religious grounds, but the good news is he has now agreed to wear the shirt and the training gear.
Under Sharia law Muslims are not allowed to profit from lending out money, and that was the basis for his religious dispute, but our last sponsor was Virgin Money and they do the same thing, loan money out for interest, but Cisse wore the Virgin Money shirt.
And probably the thing that helped sway the Senegal striker, were the recent photographs of him gambling at a Newcastle casino, and of course gambling is against Sharia law too.
And our poll on whether he had damaged his case by his gambling, showed that a high 92% of Newcastle fans thought he had damaged his case against wearing the Wonga shirt – and that may have even helped too, because i shows he was getting precious little support from the fans.
There’s no doubt his stated position eroded quickly once the gambling photos came to light, but hey, we are not going to harp on about it now – we’re just so pleased he’s staying at Newcastle United – because he can be a fantastic striker.
The news has been leaked but is not yet official, but we expect Newcastle to announce the news today.
Now to get Gomis and Remy through the door, to assist Papiss in smashing in those goals for us next season. 😀
It’s over to you Joe Kinnear.
Howay The Lads!!
Comments welcome.

The survey is on the controversial sponsorship between Wonga and Newcastle and it takes only five to ten minutes to complete.
Please help Ingo by taking the survey here – many thanks.

Happy to see Vuckic back and doing good it seems, questions is, if we get more strikers in, where does he get a chance?
He will be a late sub every league game and start in the cup games?

“It’s great to have Cisse back, he’s like a new player to us. The dispute has gone on for some time, but it’s great to finally get this one over the line.”

Comment #46@swemag I think that would be the way to go initially. We need to handle him with care, considering his injury record. Once he goes ~half season fully fit, and also making impact, we should give him starts against the likes of Hull, Palace etc at CAM.

Comment #51Titan… Maybe you are right, but a gomes wouldnt be happy playing second fiddle. if we did sign a PEA/remy and a de Jong type player, then they could play up there and offer somethig different to cisse, as well as Campbell, gouffran, at a push HBA, and shola as a last resort. The gouffran, marveaux and vuckic would slot into the attacking midfield.
Sign the right two attacking players and we would be sorted for a starting 11 and a quality back up in each position.
DISCLAMER- I know PEA has joined Dortmund and de Jong is most likely staying at Ajax. I mean these are the types of player we should look at.

Comment #53Think with this news, we’ll only be signing 1 ST and the 2 most prominent names, as we all know, are Gomis and Remy. Think if there can be assurances that Remy won’t be charged and a clause in his contract as a caveat should he be, then Remy will be the primary target, due to him already having his feet under the table in English football and his versatility
Any other incomings I think will be wholly depend on outgoings, aside from Gosling.

Them players wouldn’t come to a team languishing in the bottom half of the EPL, with no European competitions, no change of silverware.
Someone said it earlier, and I agree, some fans need to get real and just take note of the position the club is in, we can’t make marquee signings anymore due to financial implications, geographical implications and the fact that we just ain’t as good as we used to be.

Now lets get in someone to play up front with him – Remy, Gomis or Bent. i know we have Goufran who I like but need more strength up front – and not being greedy a big strong central defender who is mobile
Not asking for much!!!!
