Joe Kinnear must know that Newcastle fans are waiting for him to bring home the bacon so to speak, and bring in two of these three strikers – Bafetimbi Gomis form Lyon, who seems to be available at a cut price fee (maybe £4M), Loic Remy of QPR, who is available for £8M or less, and Darren Bent of Aston Villa, who available for something less than £6M and has said on Tuesday that he is close to making a move away from Villa.
Bafetimbi Gomis – Newcastle 4/6 odds on to sign Lyon striker
That means we could possibly get all three strikers on Tyneside for around £17M – which would be very good business for the club.
The 6′ tall Gomis has scored 45 goals in 93 appearances for Lyon over the last two seasons, and he would seem an excellent acquisition for the club, since Lyon want to unload him this summer, before he becomes a free agent next summer.
And Newcastle have been linked with him very closely over the last two weeks or so, and SkyBet now have Newcastle listed at 4/6 odds on to sign the 27 year-old striker, if only we can get him to Tyneside.
It’s always useful to look at the betting involved, just to see what real money is being placed on any outcome, although SkyBet have been wrong before – like when Alan Pardew was 1/5 on to get the sack after Reading beat us 2-1 in January. 🙁
And that put us in deep trouble with relegation and in the end we just stayed up.
From what Alan Pardew was saying yesterday, Newcastle are close to a deal or even a couple of deals, but the wait is a bit agonizing for fans, as Newcastle seem to be moving at a snail’s pace in this summer’s transfer market.
We have to hope we get Gomis or Remy or both of them signed very soon, and we have already indicated that with at least a couple of good strikers brought in this summer, and we manage to keep Papiss Cisse at Newcastle, we will have a very good squad and should do well next season.
But we need the signings made – and sooner rather than later.
