The Newcastle Journal is reporting today what is essentially good news on the drawn out saga to sign Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
Bafetimbi Gomis – please sign this player
The Journal says that indeed a Newcastle bid is one of three bids received so far by Lyon for Gomis, and Newcastle are still waiting for a response to the bid.
Newcastle isreported to be the only Premier League club to have lodged a bid, although reports in France suggest that other Premier League clubs are also trying to sign Gomis.
Joe Kinnear has been working very closely with Graham Carr, Newcastle’s Chief Scout, as he tries to his arms around his new position as Director of Football at Newcastle.
Carr is known to have many contacts in France, and two non Premier league clubs could be in for Gomis, and they are Marseilles and reported interest from a club in Turkey – probably Galatasaray or Fenerbahce.
So not for the first time in the last three and a haf years, Graham Carr is playing a vital part in the drive to get a good player to Newcastle.
And the Journal are reporting that an adviser for Gomis is on his way to England to try to negotiate a deal – and we assume those negotiations will be with Newcastle.
You wouldn’t have thought that recruiting a player would be so difficult, but Newcastle proved last summer in their pursuit of Mathieu Debuchy of Lille, that it can be extremely difficult, at least for the Tyneside club, to get a top target through the door.
We hope the duo of Carr and Kinnear can get the job done for Gomis, and Newcastle should understand they will need to pay out decent money for a top player at times, and that seems to be the case with Bafetimbi Gomis.
We cannot get fantastic deals on players every single time.
What do you think?
Comments welcome – but please keep them civil.

Comment #41Jeff has to be one if the saddest bastards I’ve ever come across. From dawn ’til the wee hours he’s on here switching between aliases, trolling. No doubt a middle-aged fat blob, that lives at home with his mother and sponges off her.

Comment #44Hey, Jeff – why don’t we sign Colback? He’d do a good job at right back, wouldn’t he? Maybe Debuchy could come on once Colback had ensured the game was safe. Likewise, we could sell Cabaye and pick up Larrson or Cattermole to inject some verve into the toon.

Comment #46Danno – That would make sense.
It is right that there were some massive bets being placed in London on Remy > NUFC and that’s what led to the betting prices being slashed?!
Apparently it was in the mid-late 100’s of pounds being bet.

Comment #49Santon is one of the fastest players we have and would be wasted at CB. Wanting him to play there shows me Jeff’s football knowledge

Comment #50JFK Junior – I wouldn’t read too much into the betting odds, they’re manipulated. Three weeks ago we were certain to be signing Scott Sinclair.

read that u muppet. inmportantly “So: Lennon, Bale, Walker. Who is the quickest? The answer may surprise you. “Over 100 metres, like the Olympics, I think it would be Younes Kaboul,” Walker reckons. “Azza has got 50 in him, and then his little legs won’t carry him any more.””
KABOUL is the FASTEST at TOTTENHAM and hes a CB

Comment #60Jeff – Have you ever watched Newcastle play? Just because someone is fast doesn’t mean they can play CB!! With your logic we’d have played Bellamy CB in years gone by.
Please give this up, Santon is not/never will be a CB!

Newcastle United were looking at Gomis long before Carr was here. As I recall, Keegan went over to France to scout him when he was at St Etienne and Kinnear was trying to sign him after Keegan left too along with one or two others such as Stephane Mbia.
