Yoan Gouffran was an important player for Newcastle as soon as he arrived on Tyneside, and he was asked to get the goals with Papiss Cisse, after Demba Ba left the club in early January and was not replaced.
Yoan Gouffran scores against West Brom to get the point
And Yoan has looked good in pre-season so far, and when he came on against Pacos on Tuesday night, he added energy and drive to the Newcastle side up front.
The former Bordeaux player can play on the wing or as a striker, and he seems to be a very good acquisition for Newcastle, and last season he scored three vital goals at Tottenham, West Brom and QPR, which meant 3 extra points for the Magpies.
It seems that Alan Pardew is looking to play two strikers next season, and the manager has today challenged Gouffran next season to win a place up front:
“I think all strikers want to be the number 9 who gets the goals and plays through the middle,” “I want competition for those two players – Gouff will definitely offer that,”
“That’s a very important role for this team.” “Gouff has shown that he can give us quality in that area, and depending on our business, he could get a start there.”
Gouffran is a versatile player, and we think he will still get lots of playing time next season, and that’s whether or not he manages to win a starting position at the club.
