Versatile Frenchman Given Challenge By Pardew

10:16 am, Friday, July 26th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 40 Comments

Yoan Gouffran was an important player for Newcastle as soon as he arrived on Tyneside, and he was asked to get the goals with Papiss Cisse, after Demba Ba left the club in early January and was not replaced.

Yoan Gouffran scores against West Brom to get the point

And Yoan has looked good in pre-season so far, and when he came on against Pacos on Tuesday night, he added energy and drive to the Newcastle side up front.

The former Bordeaux player can play on the wing or as a striker, and he seems to be a very good acquisition for Newcastle, and last season he scored three vital goals at Tottenham, West Brom and QPR, which meant 3 extra points for the Magpies.

It seems that Alan Pardew is looking to play two strikers next season, and the manager has today challenged Gouffran next season to win a place up front:

“I think all strikers want to be the number 9 who gets the goals and plays through the middle,” “I want competition for those two players – Gouff will definitely offer that,”

“That’s a very important role for this team.” “Gouff has shown that he can give us quality in that area, and depending on our business, he could get a start there.”

Gouffran is a versatile player, and we think he will still get lots of playing time next season, and that’s whether or not he manages to win a starting position at the club.

What do you think?

Big Pappa your a troll for sure. A player cant be a CB cause there fast? LOLOLOLOL

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/tottenham-hotspur/9858954/Tottenhams-Kyle-Walker-takes-lessons-from-Gareth-Bale-after-rivals-find-ways-to-stifle-his-talent.html

read that u muppet. inmportantly “So: Lennon, Bale, Walker. Who is the quickest? The answer may surprise you. “Over 100 metres, like the Olympics, I think it would be Younes Kaboul,” Walker reckons. “Azza has got 50 in him, and then his little legs won’t carry him any more.””

KABOUL is the FASTEST at TOTTENHAM and hes a CB

While gouffran isn’t the best player I do like him due to his directness. He gets the ball and goes towards the oppositions goal, no pussyfooting around

Come on Yohan, be our first new purple striker signing.

So parts is saying if we get no one in then gouff will start up front?

  • 8 Rainrix // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:22 AM

So “Competition For those 2 players”? So im assuming once and for all we’re playing with 2 strikers next season.

  • 9 sholasupporter // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:22 AM

So Mr Pardew, you intend to play Gouff as a striker…who do you propose is then played on the left wing? A position that has needed strengthening since we learned that Jonas and Santon can’t cross a football? FFS get sinclair in on the left and another striker and we should be in pretty good shape even if gouff plays up front

    @ Jeff

Show me where I said a player can’t be a CB because they have pace ? . Didn’t think so moron. Anyone that watches Santon flying up and down the wing then wants him playing at CB knows nothing about football.

Getting a little touchy are you because we rumbled you sad scheme to post under another blogger because no one on here likes you hahahaha. Ed please block this loser, the world will be a better place without him.

    Retart is not a word
mourinis is not a real person
Comparing maldini’s style of play at LB doesn’t translate into he could play CB

And heads up for future line up suggestions shola is not a GK in case you were tempted

I’m leaving this place if this carries on. I’ve done nothing to deserve this. You lot (some) don’t represent true toon fans.

  • 26 sweendog // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:36 AM

hope this is true about Gomis reps coming to Newcastle .. him and Remy and thats a strong attack..

  • 27 croftus5678 // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:36 AM

really hope we do sign remy/gomis as fans really need a boost.
we just need to stop so much negativity and trying to fight amongst ourselves and a few signings will go a long way towards healing that.

  • 28 richyg01 // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:36 AM

Competition for Cisse and Strolla – our striking partnership for the season.

  • 29 richyg01 // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:37 AM

    @26

I heard they were coming to the UK, not specifically NUFC.

If it is correct that Spuds are in for him also, then we have no chance.

  • 30 Jail for Ashley // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:37 AM

    tads,
Do you might think an apology might be forth coming from all those people who said Mikey learns from his mistakes.FACT.

  • 31 Rainrix // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:37 AM

IITian…. Well i think he’s been alluding to for a while that we’ll be playing with 2 strikers next season. Presumably he means cisse and the new striker whoever that is will be 1st choice with gouffran and shola as backup. I assume thats what he means

  • 32 christoon5369 // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:38 AM

    sum ting wong

i find that highly offensive, my father passed away not long ago, there is no excuse for that type of comment, where banter is concerned there is a line you you have just crossed it, while finding it difficult not to let rip ill not me making any further comments,

    to everyone else see ya

  • 33 richyg01 // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:38 AM

Hopefully Spuds are distracted by Soldado while we steam in for Gomis.

Unless we are waiting for him to fail a medical.

  • 34 Jail for Ashley // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:39 AM

Don’t leave please you contribute so much !

  • 35 croftus5678 // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:40 AM

    @19 tds

hmm i’m not too sure ^^ shola never hardly moves (gk) is a big lad and fills more of the goal (gk) has big hands (gk) and is strong (gk) looks like he thinks he is a (gk)

pards missed a trick on this one imo.

  • 36 Rainrix // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:40 AM

I dont see why spurs are after gomis really. As much as i’d like a signing gomis is hardly a world beater. Certainly not someone you want leading your line if you’re fighting for CL. Im sure spurs have better options available to them.

  • 37 Bearsize // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:42 AM

Why would ashley buy 2 strikers when he can buy one. One striker only. Be very surprised if he gets more. Unless he sells of coarse

  • 38 Bring Back Laurent Robert // Jul 26, 2013 at 10:42 AM

So we can safely estimate Sum Ting Wongs age to be around 16, given his chosen alias and his choice of insults, in the sace of half an hour, he’s called someone a ‘convicted paedophile’ and told someone to ‘go suck their dad’.

There should be an IQ access exam for the internet.

  • 39 plana // Jul 26, 2013 at 11:05 AM

    @38 the scoundrel.,

  • 40 toonicle // Jul 26, 2013 at 4:16 PM

Gouffran should get a start pretty much every game he’s fit to play. Great on the left wing and we should be playing a 4-1-2-3 or 4-2-1-3 with him and Ben Arfa on the wings.
