Cisse Not Even On Bench Against Blackpool – Team News

2:07 pm, Sunday, July 28th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 307 Comments

blackpoolnufc

There’s no sign of Papiss Cisse today, even on the bench, in the team that Alan Pardew has announced will play at Blackpool this afternoon, in a 3:00 pm kick off, and maybe that means we will see him at St. Mirren on Tuesday night in the new Wonga strip.

But the team is quite a strong one, and Mike Williamson will partner Steven Taylor, in Fab Coloccini’s absence, and Shola Ameobi and Yoan Gouffran will be up front in a 4-4-2 formation this afternoon at Bloomfield Road.

And it’s interesting that big Moussa Sissoko will be in the middle of the Park with Yohan Cabaye, and maybe that’s Newcastle best central midfield pairing in the coming season.

18 year-old Adam Campbell is again on the bench and we hope we see Adam get a decent run-out in the second half this afternoon, and Mathieu Debuchy and Davide Santon are the full-backs, and the two Internationals look like the starters for this coming season too.

Jak Alnwick,  Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic and Paul Dummett are other youngsters on the bench this afternoon.

For Blackpool Tom Ince starts, and we’ve been linked with the 21 year-old winger this summer in the transfer market, and former Gosforth-born Newcastle striker Michael Chopra starts up front for the Tangerines.

We want to see a good performance from the team today, including in the first half, and hopefully a decent win.

Teams:

Blackpool (4-3-3): Matt Gilks; Kirk Broadfoot, Gary MacKenzie, Craig Cathcart, Bob Harris; Barry Ferguson (c), Angel Martinez, Thomas Ince; Bobby Grant, Michael Chopra, Steven Davies
Substitutes: Mark Halstead, Massire Kante, Neil Bishop, Chris Basham, Isaiah Osbourne. Nathan Eccleston, Daylon Claasen, Tom Barkhuizen, Anderson Banvo, Jake Caprice

Newcastle United (4-4-2): Rob Elliot; Mathieu Debuchy, Mike Williamson, Steven Taylor, Davide Santon; Sylvain Marveaux, Yohan Cabaye (c), Moussa Sissoko, Jonas Gutierrez; Yoan Gouffran, Shola Ameobi
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Paul Dummett, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Haris Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Campbell

no hba…would actually have liked to see vuckic in the hole today…but it looks like sissoko has that role

  • 2 mattnufc // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:12 PM

Very poor bench. Needs to be much stronger for next season.

  • 3 expatmag // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:13 PM

    EDD

Apparently, some players being held back for extra fitness training including Cisse, Tiote, Anita, Haidara etc and they will probably feature at St.Mirren on Tuesday night along with our new signings Gomis, Remy, Bardsley and Zoet……………..LOL

is this game televised or on the radio, cant find anywhere that has it. Not even text updates

  • 5 check the toastie // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:15 PM

    Ameobi = Hoofball

Pardews only idea on how to progress the ball up the pitch. The lad should have left the club years ago. A total and utter shambles that he is still being selected, only at the Toon. Can you imagine any other PL team persevering with Shola, my god give young Campbell a go or anyone, Pardew is lost without a target man.

Nice to see you in a positive mood as always

  • 7 Spuggy // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:16 PM

Calm down lads, it’s just a preseason all the players need match practice, no point fielding the best side every match when we may have to call on the b team.

  • 8 Jail for Ashley // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:16 PM

I very rarely post team formations andvas Pieters has gone to Stoke it makes this one even more pointless.
    Krul
    Debuchy Collo Mbwia Pieters
    Sissoko
    Anita Cabaye
    HBA Cisse Remy
Subs.Elliott Santon Tiote Marveaux Gomis. This line up would unfortunately involve us signing players and one which should have been signe two years ago.

  • 9 welshgeordie9 // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:17 PM

Are we after both gomis and remy or is it one or the other

    Any links for the game?

  • 11 AaranD // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:18 PM

Back to the conventional 4-4-2, Cabs and Sissoko ‘should’ dominate the middle of park. With Sissokos power and Cabs precision should be to much for the Seasiders.

Hopefully Ince has a stormer and and we take him back to St James’s :D.

  • 12 Edd Case // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:19 PM

    FFS.
I don’t understand why some of our better players, HBA, Tiote, Hiadara and so on are being ‘held back’ for fitness – what better way to get fitter than to actually play a game?!
And where’s Cisse? Surely he needs minutes on a pitch?

Can’t help but feel wound up with AP yet a-bloody-gain.

Feel sorry for the no doubt large away support too, they’ll be subjected to the usual sh**e with that team (please prove me wrong).

  • 13 JackButler // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:19 PM

    welsh

Reports have us in advanced talks with Lyon for Gomis and Remy talks are said to be ongoing over a loan deal so it looks like both are realistic targets for us

  • 14 Tommyy // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Classic, boring and bland Pardew team. Guaranteed to offer no inventiveness, no speed, no fluidity and very little idea.

I predict the same crap football we’ve been subject to the majority of the time under Pardew’s stewardship.

Oh and get some players in, noone is laughing anymore, joke’s well and truly over.

  • 15 Finnbad The Sailor // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:19 PM

NUFC.com has no tv coverage down for this game.

The cb pairing along with Jonas and the Ameobis I hope to not have to see at all in the final games in the run up to seasons opener.

It makes me sad any time I see an Ameobi on the team sheet.

    Where is Cisse?

He must be short of match fitness.

Does anyone else see this resolution involving him leaving the club?

Very odd, he isn’t injured, lacks match fitness and Blackpool is less than 3 hours away, he should be playing today!

Should have been Gouffran and Cisse on the pitch!

expatmag – afternnoon/evening – could not get back to you yesterday as the ISP was having technical problems – got back online after 10 pm or thereabouts.
You mentioned the other day that you did not go croc hunting as you preferred swimming with great white sharks.
Yeh right – the only possible water based activities you will get involved in with “animals” is playing with a plastic duck in the bath.

  • 24 Jail for Ashley // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:23 PM

    Check,
For clarity who would you have played up top given business genius and best ever owner Mike Ashley has in his six years here sold or released 10 strikers while signing five in which only two remain at the club.
    Disclaimer.
I have not googled this information so please point out in mistakes.

  • 25 Spuggy // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:23 PM

How are debuchy, saylor, santon, Cabaye, sissoko, marv and Gouffran bland?

Not bad shout to try shola and gouffy with Cisse doing other work. Shola is top scorer so far. Give him a break until reinforcements arrive.

  • 26 MonkseatonMag // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:23 PM

Ameobi playing….OMG he passed his ‘sell-by’ date10 years ago. Surely this is the ideal opportunity to get young Campbell some playing time?

  • 27 JackButler // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:24 PM

Why is everything that happens at NUFC a conspiracy theory?

  • 28 Tommyy // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:24 PM

Possible good news on Gomis then, we need a striker like him who can bring others in to play and score himself. Should help our currently non existent link up between attack and midfield.

  • 32 AaranD // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:26 PM

Don’t mind them holding some players back, as long as its for the right reasons. If they aren’t fit enough or have a slight niggle then wouldn’t risk them as knowing our luck they’d get injured and be out for god knows how long.

Though I think we should be trying to win every match, especially after last season, it is only pre-season and really shouldn’t be to worried.

Campbell is no where near PL quality yet. Howay man. Shola is ahead of Campbell atm.

He scores two goals and all people can say is sell him. Some fans are a disgrace. Could we have better – yes. Do we have gomis yet – no.

Support the players that pass the white line.

  • 40 Tommyy // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:27 PM

As individuals they are not bland players as such, but in Pardew’s system they look awfully bland.

  • 41 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 28, 2013 at 2:27 PM

Pardew already said Cisse would not be played, probs to do with the media attention and everyone wearing Wonga. Or maybe his fitness isn’t the best with this Ramadan? (spellcheck) Best off leaving it til Mirren maybe.

I’v just read an interesting article about the dodgy sites and satalite channels that show the games. Apparantly they are clamping right down on it because of this new TV deal.

First Row’s ISP is being blocked by internet providers and all that sort of stuff. This has came from a judge like.

I was just thinking about getting the foreign channels and dish aswell for the coming season, I thought it was legal.

That is obviously a false rumour about Gomis agents being in Newcastle tomorrow. A player (and therefore their agents) can’t speak to another club unless the selling club have accepted a bid.

If they had then I’m sure, given the way their club seem happy to discuss the deal in public, that we would know about it. Instead, the current situation appears to be a gap between the clubs still in agreeing the fee.

The selling club can grant permission for the player and his representatives to speak to any club at any time they like as no fee has to be agreed beforehand for this to happen.

If Lyon believe that a deal will be struck between them and NUFC then allowing us to talk to Gomis agent will allow the deal to happen quicker which would be to everyone’s advantage, we are desperate for the player and they are desperate for the money.

For all you Strolla Ameobi lovers – I told you see is holding us back!! Instead of an up and coming talent in Adam Campbell, who do we play in front of him in a ‘friendly’ yes you guess it your favourite useless sorry excuse of a footballer AME-FKCUING-OBI!!!!!

I hate the site of the man as he constantly reminds me of painful times watching the bloke trying to play football and destroying our build up play every time.

AARRGGGHHHH!!!! PLease for the love of God bring us Remy and Gomis and we don’t have to see this ‘loyal’ loser near our team ever again.

Most likely Faye Downey is having a say on who can play or not depending on fitness level’s, the players that have been left out are said to be working on fitness levels as the last thing we need to happen now is lose anyone due to them being played when they are not physically ready, which is what happened all of last season

  • 112 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 28, 2013 at 3:05 PM

    Jb,

Santon has only featured at right back once I think in his time here, or was it right wing away to Blackburn when he scored? My memory could be off. Pards obviously thinks he is suited to left back.

Anita as tidy as he is, is not ideal.

Dummett is left back too isn’t he?

You know how Mike likes a free..

Apparantly he is on £30,000 a week at the makums though, I very much doubt MA would pay that as a back-up.

It would be canny though to have a proper right back waiting to play.

Season after season our no.23 keeps getting 1st team games and it seems we can never find a striker to replace him (which has been as least the last 8 seasons & counting) ……

    WTF!?!?

The lad is impossible to leave out and it seems he will be here forever. Geordie & a great penalty taker – NOTHING ELSE….. FFS.

Just pains me how someone so slow and consistently lazy is getting an easy payday. He could score 50 goals in pre-season for all I care but the lad has never been, and never will be a footballer.

OK rant over. Just frustrated we can’t find ANYONE to replace him.

Ameobi always plays well in pre-season and in europa but that’s it. In the EPL where we need him he does fcuk-all and that’s my beef with him. I bet that Pardew is impressed by Strolla and is drooling at the thought of pairing him up with Gomis-yawn.

@toonking: Count his injuries. Ben Arfa is a quality player as any old fool can see, the issue is how he, and the rest of the team, is being coached. When players go up to their manager and actually say they want harder training, then something is wrong on the training ground. That would certainly explain the daft injuries we picked up last season. Arfa will come good. Mark my words.

In any case, isn’t Campbell on the bench and likely to get at least 30 mins in second half?

  • 172 JP...from The Rock // Jul 28, 2013 at 3:33 PM

Thump – Exactly. I would be running like a mad man trying to win the ball back helping in corners, staying behind in training to improve my overall game and especially finishing if I were him. Every time I see him on the pitch I always feel I can put more of a shift in than he does. It pisses me right off! And when he gets a chance he usually slices his effort or balloons it over the bar. Out of 10 chances he might score 1 and then his fans would heap praise on him again for being ‘the hero’ in the match. Only for Pardew to start him in the next match and do fcuk all again playing hoof-ball and costing us crucial points.

thump stuff like injuries these days is because a player is such a cry baby even the slightest of touches and what happens he will fall down I watched the diving world championships today and their was a diver who had straps on his arm but he did not let that hold him back and did excellent.

also that injury HBA first got was very similar to raylors and you know yourself raylor is going to miss another full season half the reason behind shola being so poor is his mega injury record did you ever hear of woodgate can you remember owen the fact is Newcastle have had a massive amount of players injured for long periods and a lot of the time they have just not had the same strength that they use to have.

  • 179 JP...from The Rock // Jul 28, 2013 at 3:38 PM

tds – yes he did play with injuries but it’s not like he was ever going to set the world a light, and it was after he was here plenty of years and we all knew his limitations and that he wouldn’t get any better ever. He also knew then that he was close to being moved out of the club so he sacrificed a bit of his physical well being to stay at the club that pays him thousands more than any other club would. Hell if I were him I’ll happily chop off one of my testies just to stay playing for NUFC. Injuries happen in football it’s part and parcel of the game. There are many more NUFC players that have played through the pain barrier but they don’t get a mention.

You can’t say that Strolla Ameobi is just as loyal as Harper. No freaking way!!

Harper had proved over and over that he was a good and reliant keeper and yet stayed at NUFC for his love for the club knowing he could be playing regular first team football and maybe earn himself a more lucrative contract or even an England call up when Seaman was near retirement.

Strolla Ameobi on the other hand has never proved himself to be good enough nor consistent enough to earn himself a better contract here or anywhere else. Has always been injury prone and never attracted interest from a club of the same stature as ours, only a few championship clubs offering less money.

Have other teams not had injuries? RVP never had a full season at Arsenal until recently. As soon as he did, and scored more than 30 goals he was off.

Plus you seem unaware that guys play after injuries that would have ended their careers in the past. The fact that they can even get Shola on the pitch at all is a minor miracle for the medical staff and coaches.

JP you would be running back to save corners while playing CF? Even if your manager and coaches told you not to? Do you ignore what your boss tells you in your current job?

  • 194 expatmag // Jul 28, 2013 at 3:49 PM

    JP rock
you should go and speak to the great England CF Malcolm macdonakl or super mac because he has the full backing for shola and what he says makes a lot of sense a striker is about more than just scoring goals it is about getting the assists from crosses and controlling the ball in what is a physical box too.

…an athlete have to take his body and generelle health very seriously!

Shola has messed up his own career and when we have nedded him he has been injuried for most parts. In some way I think he has both let him self down and he has let the fans down.

I never really warmed to Harper. He was always 2nd choice throughout his career . He never seemed commanding (actually came across as nervous) – not a good trait for a keeper. The reason he stayed was because he was on a very high wage.

I gave up my season ticket of 20+ years 3 yrs ago when they gave strolla a 3 yr contact. To me, it showed their lack of ambition – and they’ve still not changed my opinion. Hope they prove me wrong though.

    Jesper

Shola had to pull out of the hip operation when Owen did his knee in, and we were going to be very short of forwards. He played with the injury for about a season, and had to have pain killing injections before matches. He put his body and future career on the line for the club.

Despite the fact that he was not and never will be a great player, he is a hero to many geordies. Even if he had only scored seven goals in his career (against the Maccems) it would have been worth it. But I actually think before the injuries he had the potential to make it at the top level. The biggest setback in his career came when Shepherd signed Kluivert without consulting with Bobby Robson, and it appears that his contract required him to be played even though he was unfortunately past his best by then. Shola rarely got games then except wide left, with Shearer and Bellamy also in the squad.

Shola should be 4th or 5th choice, as he used to be when we had a decent squad. He is OK for ten minutes at the end of the game, unfortunately he usually comes on for one of Pardews Patsy’s an Anita or Marveuax, rather than Tiote or Jonas, that’s the maddening thing about the whole situation.

  • 294 Ulster_Toon // Jul 28, 2013 at 4:57 PM

Was at the game. Once grew into it more and more. Sammy showed a little but like his brother is frustrating to watch. Dummet looks like a quality player

    The velvet fiddler
I personally would only take Remy on loan with a view to a permanent deal.Iif indeed remy is one of those to be loaned out next week

All this bitching and arguing is enough to give me the hump.

  • 298 viv // Jul 28, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Joe blog take no notice he comes on here when he can get free Wifi to agitate us Geordies.

  • 299 Tsunki // Jul 28, 2013 at 5:00 PM

@285 – thanks for proving me correct. Thats what you used to say as planb.

  • 300 MacToon // Jul 28, 2013 at 5:00 PM

    Well said Toon Dunno!

  • 301 Tinman // Jul 28, 2013 at 5:00 PM

La Fée Verte, I personally dont rate Pieters much. I remember an England game where he was ripped to pieces in the first half, by Sturridge I think, he had to be taken off he was that bad.

  • 302 SeanNufc87 // Jul 28, 2013 at 5:01 PM

Anyone saying put Campbell on are clearly fools, Campbell was on for like 7 minutes and didn’t score once! Shola scored in 6 minutes and that is a scientific fact!

I think we can all agree to what’s now plainly obvious right?

  • 303 BandB // Jul 28, 2013 at 5:06 PM

    Low Fell Mag,

I grew up among a huge family of Newcastle supporting uncles and cousins.
Among them were relatives who felt in exactly the way you do. And others felt exactly the way Jail does.
You BOTH represent time-honoured and honourable traditions of supporting Newcastle United.@ 271
You both, in your different ways, strike me as genuine fans.
I’ve been fiddling around my final sentence for 15 minutes, but Tsunki has beat me to it.
    He’s right.

  • 304 La Fée Verte // Jul 28, 2013 at 5:07 PM

Tinman – Well I’ve not seen much of Pieters or Haidara to be fair but Haidara has impressed me with his defending and going forward. Great competition for left back and I think he’ll win.

  • 305 potski // Jul 28, 2013 at 5:07 PM

Thanks Mactooon, I believe in quality not quantity;)

I do read the “overly ignorant ramblings”. It at least raises the occasional laugh. One earlier ranting why we didn’t start today with young Campbell, then we read in the official match report:

“85mins: A final outfield change for Newcastle – Adam Campbell is on for Yoan Gouffran . Campbell played the full 90 minutes yesterday in the under-21s’ 2-0 defeat to Kilmarnock and will get another five minutes under his belt here.”

  • 306 Jail for Ashley // Jul 28, 2013 at 5:15 PM

    MacToon,
I am home at the minute on standby , if I’m not away I will attend the meeting on Wednesday.
    Joe Blog,
I will read a post that defends Mashleys outrageous policies and air my views accordingly.
    LFV
I like Haidara but would like us to be in a position where a player has to play well or loses his place rather than just have a player who can cover ie RTaylor, also Pieters by all accounts is a capable CB also.

    @Toon-Prodigy
use this Firstrowsports alternative. Actually I think it is better than origial. It is impossible to block them
