There is news in the French Daily L’Equipe today that Newcastle are accelerating their bid to tie up top striker target – 27 year-old Bafetimbi Gomis.
Bafetimbi Gomis – Newcastle accelerate their bid
Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed to AFP yesterday, that talks between Lyon and Newcastle are accelerating, after Newcastle launched an improved bid for the 10 times capped French International striker.
L’Equipe is reporting that Gomis is not opposed to a move to Newcastle United, and they are saying the new bid is €7.5M, which is around £6.4M, slightly less than the £6.9M bid reported yesterday in the English media.
Lyon are actively trying to sell the striker who is under contract only until June of next year, and Aulas had this to say to AFP yesterday:
“The contacts are with Newcastle, and this is the most serious track for Gomis now, even if another Rhone attacker is also leaving Lyon.”
Lyon are trying to unload a number of their players this summer, to improve their financial position.
But this statement from the Lyon President seems to confirm the news of yesterday that Newcastle have increased their bid for Gomis, and are now on an accelerated pathway to get Gomis to Newcastle.
It’s a pity the negotiations are being done in the media, but the Lyon President hasn’t exactly been secretive about what’s going with Gomis for a few weeks now, as he tries to offload his top striker for a decent fee this summer.
What do you think?

Aye if Pardew would only play Cabaye in a more advanced role and play Sissoko and Anita behind him, we really need 2 c more of Marveaux this season, he’s a great player, wasted on the bench,

Agan it can prob come down 2 Cabaye being player 2 far back, we need our creative players pushed forward 2 create for the strikers but that isn’t happening under Pardew

I kno wer ur cumn from, i remember David Nugent being a real top striker in the Championship and never made it in the top flight but on the other hand i remember Henrik Larsson being brilliant in Scotland and people saying that it was just bcos it was the SPL and that he’d never had made it anywer else, Larsson went 2 Barca when he was in his 30’s and was pretty good and had a good stint at UTD 2, chances hav 2 b taken sumwer, offering Blackburn a few of our fringe players like Gosling and Amilfitano could b a good way of getting the price down 2, just my opinion tho

Well, let’s say Gomis is more at ease with the ball, but Cissé’s killer instinct is impressive.

Comment #43Rhodes has the potential to become a future no9 if guided right almost like a brand new Shearer.

Comment #44Damn Remy for being accused of rape! Maybe that is the reason we haven’t activated his release clause and only offered a loan deal.
It’s just typical NUFC. The player that ticks all the boxes and could transform our fortunes just had to have some sort of thing making things harder for us.
I would love to see him here on the left of a front 3 of Remy Cisse HBA. Now that will be scary. Then if Cisse is not playing well swap him for Gomis in the second half.
Then all we would need is a winger like Mertens or Boudebouz and we have proper competition all over the field and a challenge for anyone. It’s so easy it pisses me off that we seem clueless all the time.
Come on NUFC get these bloody players over the freaking line already!!!!

Comment #47Our major problem last season is that we had absolutely zero goals chipped in from anywhere else on the park. If for exwmple cisse stays and does 20. Gomis comes and does 12. Remy comes and does 12. 5 each from cabs benny and goofy. Theres 57 goals, which really considering the quality of the plauers mentioned shout be easily achievable, and if cisse/benny/gomis/remy hit a purple patch then we could easy be aiming at 60-70plus. Its our leaky defence that leaves me worried. We need better cover for shambolic saylor and liability willo. I think yanga will be massive this season. Debs and santy just need to develop the astuteness of when to go and when to stay in the prem.
I remain ever hopeful for the coming season, b******s to whats happened previous.
