Newcastle Now Odds-On To Sign Loic Remy

5:47 pm, Monday, July 29th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 379 Comments

Newcastle’s odds of signing Loic Remy in this summer transfer window have today been cut from 4/1 to 1/2 odds on.

Loic Remy

Loic Remy – Newcastle odds on to sign the Frenchman

Sky Sports is reporting that since Newcastle have now pulled out of their efforts to sign Bafetimbi Gomis of Lyon, because the price was far too high for a player who is available as a free agent next June, Newcastle have turned their full attentions to Loic Remy.

And the odds have been cut dramatically on a striker who Newcastle thought they were going to sign in January, but at the last moment the French International signed for QPR for £75K/week – obviously a huge mistake by the Frenchman.

And the question we posed earlier today was whether Newcastle would now try to sign Remy on a full-time basis, but we still think a loan deal is probably still best for the Tyneside club.

But of course we’ve been wrong before. 😀

Here’s the current betting on which club will sign Loic Remy this summer, with Newcastle at 1-2 on,  Tottenham next at 4-1, with West Ham next at 6-1.

Quite honestly,  we just hope that Joe Kinnear can get Remy or Gomis through the door very soon, so at least we have one new striker into the club at least.

And news today that former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has just signed English striker Gary Hooper from Celtic for £5M.

And that follows their capture of Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel in April for £8.5M, and Gary is now the seventh signing by Chris for Norwich this summer.

Sort note to Joe Kinnear – please get a move on – we only need two players – two strikers this summer.

Comments welcome.

Great…. when this exact same story was posted about gomis, two stories later and the deal looked doomed, and then today it died. Guess thats remy staying at QPR 😀

  • 2 toon kk // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:51 PM

We might get Remy on loan but only if QPR pay half his wages. Penny pinching again.

  • 3 Tommyy // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:54 PM

No we don’t ‘only need 2 players – two strikers’ we need 3 MINIMUM.
2 strikers and 1 winger, or 1 striker and 2 wingers (actual out and out wingers) I do not count Obertan as a player anymore nor Jonas as a winger, merely a midfield stand in.

  • 4 welshgeordie9 // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:54 PM

I bet we don’t even get that deal done.

  • 5 Tommyy // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:56 PM

How can it be so hard to get 3 players in? Nacer Chadli went to Spurs for 7 mil, he would have sorted out our right attacking side easily!

  • 6 nico // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:57 PM

    I’m with Tommyy.

We need more than just 2 strikers. I think realistically we’ll only get one now anyways.

I’d love to see Sinclair here. He’s wasting his career at Man City.

  • 7 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:57 PM

You can’t sign players on loan once the window closes mate, when it closes that’s it!

  • 8 Tommyy // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:58 PM

I’d even be tempted to try and bring in Beasejour from Wigan. Quick and decent brain on him for left side, and cheap.

  • 9 Markaccus // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:58 PM

    I think we need:

Cf. Winger/second striker. Winger out and out. Cb to replace willo who is not good enough.

4 players. Ideally add to that a young rb back up and that would do me. Will it happen. No.

  • 10 JAMSHA // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:59 PM

    gomis deal back on

  • 11 nico // Jul 29, 2013 at 5:59 PM

Are you sure about that. Isn’t there another period where you can loan players?

  • 12 Rotonda heights // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:00 PM

I have taken on board some of your points.
However, it’s really sad Ashley has made it so hard to attract top people to NUFC a club with 52000 home fans!

  • 13 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:03 PM

    Not on the prem mate
Lower leagues have the emergency loan window in feb but I think that’s it

  • 14 welshgeordie9 // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:04 PM

How do you know gomis deal is back on.

  • 15 Premiership Manager // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:05 PM

Did you not see Pardews post match interview after playing Blackpool on Sky Sports, where he let is slip that Joes directive is to bring one player over the line?

He did later in the interview state one or two players when he realised he had dropped the clanger however for those watching it was obvious as he backed off the statement with we have a very strong squad.

We will sign one senior player this window, however I’m not confident that Remy will want to put up with another relegation fight.

With Pardews odds being 2-1 as first Premier League Manager to be sacked it’s not looking good especially if JFK is the answer.

A better option than Remy would be to get Lukaku, Victor Moses or even Demba Ba on loan from Chelsea.

At least we would then have cover up front and some creativity which is worryingly still lacking.

  • 16 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:06 PM

Sounds like Ashley has bought his employment policy from sports direct to NUFC’s transfer policy!

  • 17 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:06 PM

    Won’t happen.

If we had a DoF capable of bringing in players, would anyone be happy with Ruiz?

If fulham sign Bent, it could open up the doors for Ruiz to leave, I reckon he would make a good 2nd/3rd Choice Striker. A definite improvement on our oh so prolific Strolla.

  • 18 leavemyarselona // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:06 PM

Surely the interest of the transfer money or even just general money alone would bloody pay for a player . Gathering cobwebs our budget like

  • 19 viv // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:06 PM

They reckon an onion is the only vegetable that can make you cry. Not unless you have been hit the face by a turnip.

  • 20 Tinman // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:07 PM

Nico, think you can get an ’emergency loan’ in extreme circumstances. Takes a lot of long term injuries in the same position to get one though. Can’t remember the last one

  • 21 toonfan76 // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:07 PM

More of the same! We end an interest in 1striker so the obvious headline is that we are focusing on our other know striker target. Nothing new to report. God these transfers drag on and on. Come on Kinnear do your job.

  • 22 toon kk // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:08 PM

The BIG problem most billionaires buy football clubs because they love the sport or want a interesting hobby.
Once they have bought the club they usually have a great ambition for it and speak out. But I don’t know why MA bought Newcastle apart for advertising and selling his sports gear.
The fans don’t mean jack sh.t to him and he’s gambling with our future just to get his money back.

  • 23 Black and White with an army lol // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:09 PM

do you’s honestly think Harry will let him go on loan,, ffs fickle fans these days, don’t listen to any BS coming from papers and sites, we got to face the facts that history is repeating itself again and again, just think it’s been just under 2 months and no 1 has came through to improve our squad and by the end of August when the transfer market closes there sill be no signing

  • 24 Markaccus // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:09 PM

Imo ruiz is about the same as gervinho. I think we dodged another bullet when we failed with an alleged last stitch bid for him. But thats just me. Could easily be proved wrong.

  • 27 Uncertain Toon // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:13 PM

You’d think something could be organised through premier league the Remy scenario falls into the exceptional category, timing wise that is. I think it’s only a few days after window closes he reports to the Feds. We could have him on loan and if bail is extended or court date given we still have him on loan. If case is dropped a prearranged permanent contract could activate and he moves to us, qpr get their money and everyones happy. contracts are made on ifs and buts all the time.

  • 28 Mister Tuff // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:14 PM

Where is this coming from Jamsha?

  • 30 geordie157 // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:14 PM

Note to ed, we need at least three players, the 3rd being a winger who can get to the by line, cross and has pace.

Hope we get him like. If we go in to the season with Cisse, Gouffran & Shola I will kick right off.

Fair enough. But both would still improve the team, if it meant we did not have to worry about Pardew picking Shola.

    Tads and Nico,

There is a loan window which applies to Football league clubs only – From September 9 – 25 November.

    Gomis deal back on?

  • 41 toon kk // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:23 PM

We’ll be ripped apart by Man City then we will get an excuse we have made a mistake not strengthening by Pardew, when it’s not his mistake.

  • 42 toonfan76 // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:24 PM

With regards to someone who can deliver a cross, didn’t someone who was at the last match say that Santon was putting in some good crosses and it looked like he had been working on them? I’m one of those fans who believes that Santon would make a really good winger if the crossing part of his game has improved.

  • 43 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:25 PM

Answered your own question then! No we can’t loan players after the window shuts!

  • 44 Belfast // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:26 PM

Agree with Tommy. Two strikers and one winger. Don’t think Kinnear has a clue what he’s at, so I won’t be holding my breath.

Holy grail, it’s a shame some people completely missed the point of your post explaining transfers. I liked it.

TRANSFER SAGE -do you actually know how long qpr were looking at/in contact with remy? Do you actually know how long Swansea have been looking at/in contact with bony.
    Of course you don’t.

The problem here is people taking absolute balls made up by tabloid papers or “leaked” by agents as the gospel truth.

Why waste your energy believing such crap? Just wait and see what happens for yourself instead of allowing the media to shape your views.
When we make unexpected signings (as most of our recent ones have been) at least you won’t have spent god knows how long over the last few weeks regurgitating utter tripe and using tabloid wisdom to make yourselves look like fools.

I know from first hand experience how easy it is to get made up rubbish printed in the Sun and end up on BBC breakfast still talking about said made up rubbish as if it were true.

I remember that when we signed Cisse, Marveaux and Santon, it all happened in a sudden. The classic example was Marveaux, that the Scousers were almost to sign him, and all the papers said they HAD SIGNED him, but all a sudden Marveaux showed up in NUFC uniform, and the picture was ONLY shown on Now I could say we know nothing.

  • 56 HullMag6 // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:47 PM

This is beyond a joke with these transfers now. We have messed on all summer. PEA, gomis. Whats next honestly. Im worried what city mite do to us with jovetic and negerado

  • 58 EastEndMagpie // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:49 PM

    agreed Arizona,

Got to admit they where all suprises really, Cisse the biggest for me, we where barely linked with him, then all of a sudden there he was in his now re-knowned “casino jacket”, signed and sealed, heres to hoping thats the case with this,

Gotta amit though, would be really suprised if after all this we ended up with say Brown Ideye and someone else, doubt kinnear can even pronounce smokescreen let alone create one.

Still firm on the fact we only need 3 players maybe 4, in postitions that don’t need as much bedding in as say, a creative midfielder or holding midfielder, or a starting 11 centre half new to the league, so as pissed of as I am that we haven’t signed anyone, I’m no where near sh!tting it like some of the lads on here!

  • 59 scout // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:50 PM

  • 61 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:54 PM

52,000 home fans isn’t what it used to be mate.

Man Utd have an estimated 355M fans globally. Chelski have 135M which is more than Arsenal (113M) and Liverpool (71M) and before Abramovich we were probably as big a club as Chelsea! These days, money talks…

Even Man City have 18M fans and apart from the last few years, it’s been decades since they even threatened to do anything.

Even if all 52,000 fans bought season tickets and shirts for themselves and their family, it would probably only generate £30M or so, which is about half of our wage bill in 2011/12. In fact, our matchday income in the same year was £24M.

The real attraction to a new owner buying our club is that we are at least a global brand. Sure, we’re not Man Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal and frankly probably never will be. City and Chelski only manage to falsely maintain that status because of gross investment.

  • 62 leazes upper ( moved to the gallowgate ) // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:55 PM

Im starting we worry we wont sign anyone. As for this article we were odds on to get gomis and bent. We signed neither

  • 63 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:56 PM

We don’t just need players in, we need quality players! Hooper, Rhodes, Austin…there is no evidence that these players would be good enough for us.

Surely it’s better to wait a bit (hopefully not until January this time please!) and get a player of the calibre of Cisse rather than gamble on one of these or a Conor Wickham.

How many bad signings have been made in recent years?

  • 64 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:56 PM

If NUFC were based nearer London we would have had owners like City or Chelsea by now IMO. Sad but true.

  • 66 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:58 PM

    Big Pappa Cissé

You can’t say “IMO” and then “true”…

Man City aren’t exactly close to London are they? I don’t know what made City more attractive than us…maybe it was the gigantic debt that Shepherd had lumbered the club with?

  • 67 Ben_W // Jul 29, 2013 at 6:58 PM

We were also odds on to sign sinclair, Remy before he went QPR, Bent, and maybe even Gomis?

Bookie’s don’t know jack, just give really low odds after a couple bets get placed.

  • 68 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:00 PM

And anyway, I bloody hate what Chelski and Citeh have done. It’s just playing Fantasy Football and anyone can do it if they have enough money. I’d much rather we grow organically like the other 4 clubs in the top 6 have done. Much more satisfying and easier to hold your head up high as a fan.

Very good point my fellow blog dweller, however id like to bring up the old chestnut massive injury crisis and no European games either + new fitness expert and training schedule should see us rise up the table.

  • 73 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:05 PM

    Big Pappa Cissé

Have you ever been to Manchester? It’s f”in ‘orrible!

I don’t think it would have been a geographical consideration mate. I know Chelsea is a glamour club in a glamorous part of town, but City isn’t. Possibly the size of the city makes a difference though, but it would be more likely to be simply down to the deal and the potential scope of the club. Manchester is more cosmopolitan and a global city than Newcastle because it’s just simply bigger.

  • 74 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:05 PM

    @ Sarf

These days being successful like that is a fairytale. The closest team at the minute to doing that is Dortmund but even they spend more than us. Just look at Madrid willing to pay £90 odd million for Bale. Money talks at the end of the day.

I for one would love to see the likes of Aguero and Mata in NUFC shirts, even if it means “selling my soul” so to speak 🙂

  • 75 colwell // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:05 PM

I’d be able to hold my head high if we had just won the Prem or Champs league.

I’m jealous of what City and Chelsea can do. I would take a sheikh in a heartbeat, would love to wake up and see we have bid 90m for Ronaldo, instead of bartering over 2m for Gomis.

  • 76 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:07 PM

Seems you’re the expert. Why do we even need to debate when we’ve got you?

Can you at the very at least acknowledge that your last post was figuratively dripping with condescension?

While we’re at it, how does a team figuratively get relegated? If this is not possible, it would appear that the phrase “literally get relegated” is redundant.

I will now qualify by acknowledging that I know that last comment is condescending, but that is by design 🙂

But look at all of these people buying relatively small clubs like Fulham or QPR which have tiny fan bases and poor stadiums. Would they be so sought after if they were located outside of the capital, somewhere like Middlesbrough ? .

  • 79 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:09 PM

No guarantee sure….but you can do a hell of a lot of groundwork and maximise your chances.

Look at all of our signings in the last few years…can you spot any bad eggs?

Cabaye, Cisse, Ba, Tiote, Colo, Santon, Jonas (even) have all done excellent jobs for the club. MYM, Debuchy, Sissoko, Goofy, Marv, Anita, Eliott are all looking like good signings too with admittedly a bit to prove as they haven’t played too many games.

Worst signing £ for £ since we got back in the PL? Obertan? But he only cost £3M and is still 22 years old. He may still come good and we’d probably sell him for a similar amount.

  • 80 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:11 PM

    Big Pappa Cissé

Fair enough. Can’t say I agree with you there but different strokes for different folks.

It doesn’t mean much to just come in with £200M every summer and sign the best players in the world on huge wages. It doesn’t say that you have a fantastic club or it’s incredibly well run. It just says that you have money.

  • 81 scout // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:11 PM

These markets are just publicity for the bookies, try having 2k on at 1/2 and see where it gets you.
They don’t wanna know, 1/2 isn’t even that sort, it’s when they close the market, that’s when it’s generally a done deal

  • 82 colwell // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Unless mate QPR pay some of his wages, we know he is on more than we can offer him. So we take him on loan, keeps Remy happy and QPR. Then end of season we hand him back unless QPR don’t come up of course. Who know’s??

Sounds like you agree with Big Pappa Cissé…

Why can’t we just be proud of the club that we’ve got, the achievements that we’ve had and the good that the club does for the community? We might never win those trophies in their current form, so you’re never going to be happy…

  • 87 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:15 PM

That was my contribution for this evening, as short as it was as I simply cannot be bothered with people who think we should be happy with the club.

Sometimes I weep for humanity, not because of the intolerable suffering, but for the intolerable stupidity which is causing me to suffer.

Patronising maybe, but I really don’t care at this stage, NUFC have broken me irreparably until the fat one, the mouthy one and the pathetic one have shipped out of here.

Dark times and cynicism ahead from me people. Have a great evening.

    Big Pappa Cissé

Yeah you’re right about the London clubs, I’m definitely not arguing with you there. There’s a certain kudos to owning a London football club and doing business out of London. But I don’t think it’s quite the same in Manchester, at least not to the same degree for sure.

  • 89 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Yeah but we’ve also been linked with Austin hooper Rhodes RVW and been seen scouting the games so how can you dismiss them as not good enough

  • 90 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:16 PM

    @ Sarf

I just think NUFC fans are the best in the world and that is not simply because I am a fan myself but this place lives and breaths football. Just look at the amount of fans we took to a pre-season friendly against Blackpool at the weekend.

Yet we have a penny pinching owner that would rather go into a season with a weak strike force than cough up £2 million more and get the player in. Give me the Oil tycoon any day of the week 😉 .

  • 91 colwell // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:16 PM

The current regime does make it hard to be proud of our great team. Thats not to say i’m not but they are making us some what of a laughing stock. I was proud as anything when Sir Bobby was here, those were great times.

  • 92 Jamesthefirst // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:17 PM

I for one I’m glad we have pulled out of the Gomis deal.

    1) He is not worth the money.

    2) First time he fails to convert in a big game our journalists will label him “Go Miss” and opposing fans will constantly repeat it.

    3) He never wanted to come here. He only wants to play for Marseilles and is annoyed Lyon won’t let him go there.

Our current squad is good enough for a Top 7 finish under the RIGHT MANAGER. I personally think our back four is as good as any in the league (including the goalie). Colo and Mbwia is the best centre back pairing we have had in YEARS.

We need more firepower yes, hence why Ashley big £15million up front for PEA. If PEA had agreed to come no one on here would be complaining about not spending any money.

Take the shackles off Ben Arfa and Cabaye and we would give anyone a game.

I think the biggest issue at the club is that the players Pardew wants and the players Carr wants are never the same list.

  • 93 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:17 PM

Very measured response, good evening to you, I’m on my way off but thought I’d do you the courtesy of replying.

Needless to say, there is nothing to shout about at our club, other than being in the PL, which I now have come to take as a given, we should always be a PL club. Other than that, what is there to be happy about? Don’t answer, as any other answer other than “nothing” will both offend and dismay.

You may debate with others, but I’m a closed shop on this market.

Have a good evening though debating with others.

  • 95 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:19 PM

Enjoy your evening fella. I see we got praised for the civility of our debate yesterday…

For the record, I think we should generally be happy and proud that we support a top PL club with a proud history and a fantastic fan base. I’d like to see the fans targets their energies to improve specific things about the club rather than an overall attack which never works. Glad that we’re improving the fitness and the communication finally.

There’s no guarantee anything will get any better if we had a new owner, so let’s hope…
    – MA authorises £10-15M net spend this Summer
    – JFK keeps his mouth shut, doesn’t chase away any of our top players and gets a couple that we need over the line
    – Pardew learns from his mistakes and allows our creative players to express themselves
    – and we finish top 8 at least…

I think we should be happy with that next season. A tilt at a European place or cup would be nice too… 🙂

  • 96 colwell // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:20 PM

Was watching clips of Laurent Robert earlier, god I miss him what a player he was. Great cross and shot on him, lazy fcuker mind but that wasn’t his game. Solano on the right was one of the best passers I have seen at the Toon.

  • 97 Grindilow // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:20 PM

This blog really does post some tosh. The article never has any relevance to the headline. As for the constant ‘smokescreen, ashley out’ comments, I don’t know where to start…

Are you seriously suggesting we pay £9 million for an unproven PL striker in the last year of his contract? (Gomis) Instead of just discounting Ashley, why not look at the ‘facts’. The bloke is a shrewd and successful businessman, i’m not a fan personally but dear me, back off. I suppose some of you think we should just pay 20 million to get Gomis!

  • 98 SeanNufc87 // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:21 PM

The fans, the stadium, the atmosphere and the sunshi… oh. .. either way ashley hasnt provided any of them.

    Not much happy I admit.

  • 99 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:21 PM

We should never get relegated but then neither should Sheffield Wednesday and neither should Leeds. Spurs and Everton have been in relegation trouble too and Villa should be a top 10 club every year.

  • 100 Jamesthefirst // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:21 PM

The other problem with Pardew is that when he makes a substitution his first thought is will they be an asset DEFENDING a corner. It’s why the tall players always get on: Shola, Obertan etc. and the short ones very rarely do: Anita, Marv, Campbell.

  • 101 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:23 PM

Because we didn’t sign them…we could have got Hooper for £5M and Austin for around £3.5M…but we didn’t…so I’d say we deemed them not good enough.

  • 103 jazzyp // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:24 PM

    Evening lads.
Come home from work expecting some good news on Gomis and Remy-I should have known better !!
I was prepared to give Percy a chance this season after the shambles of last.Clear mistakes were made by all parties especially Pardew.
But after reading his latest tirade of bs regarding being happy with what we currently have in the C Forwards dept I feel enough is enough.
1-the first half of last season demba banged in 13 goals which kept us out of the relegation zone.
2 We have not replaced ba when he was sold in January.
3 Pardew admitted that we needed to bring players in as we were short of quality outside the first 11 squad players.
4 22-25 January 2013: Newcastle make four more new signings, all from France’s Ligue 1. These were French internationals Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Moussa Sissoko from Montpellier and Toulouse, respectively, as well as Yoan Gouffran from Bordeaux and Massadio Haïdara from Nancy.
And yet we are 3wk away from the new PL season without a single player coming in

  • 104 toonking // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:24 PM

the owner we have got might not be who I like but if he were to sell us to an owner who added Newcastle to the list of Chelsea and city it would likely mean the final whistle has been blown with me and football instead I will go and watch all the fixtures of my local town.

the real idiots of football are fifa uefa and the FA’s because they are the greediest of all
forget the financial fair plair rule or the home grown rule if they really were so keen on preventing teams from over spending and buying success then why do they not yet introduce the rule 5/6

  • 105 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:25 PM

We might be able to get 7th with our current squad…but that would rely on one very simple gamble…Cisse being available for virtually every game and being on form for the whole season. We’re not going to get 7th place without one of our players hitting 15-20 goals.

  • 106 colwell // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:25 PM

The comment from Cabaye said all it needed too about Pards.
Something along the lines of we now get told to take 1/2 touches, pass and move. WTF was Pards telling them to do before that then?

  • 107 mikeashleyisamackem // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:27 PM

The season Kicks off on aug the 17th not very long to go
cant believe we still have no signings actually i can believe it with newcastle
we will lose out on gomis apparently he has said he will stay at lyon and leave for free when his contract expires as he is dissilusioned with the club asking for over 10 million and good on newcastle for not paying it
according to a important senior official at newcastle we are going to wait till january to sign gomis ,and we are trying to get remy on loan as we have taken legal advice and there is no gurantees he will be cleared on his rape charge ,apparently qpr have agreed to loan if we pay 100 percent wages but it is outside our budget and we will not compromise, apparently redknapp is furious with newcastle and has offered remy to monaco in a cut price 6 million deal so it is looking like we will get neither and the bookies are trying to make some money by putting him odds on to sign for us and it couldnt be further from the truth ,according to what i hear and dont jump down my throat on this we are intrested in berbatov and fulham have offered 20 million and berbatov for cisse ,now this is from a great guy am hearing this he runs nufc, com ,attends all newcastle games and is good friends with bob moncur so please take this info as gospal as i do
joe kinnear wants to sell cisse and take berba and use the 20 million to buy a striker and we have a shortlist of 5 strikers two of them we will not get remy and gomis the other 3 are apparently ,danny welbeck, shane long, and jermain defoe ,apparently tho defoe has rejected a move to us so we are going all out to sign shane long ,

@94 Pardew learn from his mistakes. That’s a good one the mans 52 years old he’s never won anything in his career. Yet fatso gives him an 8 year contract along with rehiring another nobody that relegated us. Fatso maybe a decent clothes salesman but football ain’t his forte.

  • 112 Toon1978 // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:33 PM

    Rotonda heights

I agree with you but i would like the club to be somewhere in the middle. Not just to go out and spend 50 60 million quid on a player, i would like us to go out and spend 60 million on 5 or 6 players of good calibre AND improve our academy to one of the best in the country so we can do a Man utd. Bring a group of top class kids through at the same time who go onto to win everything with the club. The way City and Chelsea have done things is way to far and very unfair. But our club atm is run far to strict regarding transfers. I am sorry but under this current regime, we will be lucky to be in the EPL this time next year OR the year after.

No…I wouldn’t like it. It feels false to me.

  • 118 check the toastie // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:38 PM

I honestly believe Pardew just selects the team, tells the lads the formation and sends them out, scribbles some notes in his little book to make himself look slightly important then brings Shola on irrespective of what has happened. He is a total imbecile.

Cabaye’s quote about one or two touches was a beaut. Beyond belief. So Jonas says they haven’t been doing any fitness and Cabaye says they have done no one or two touch football, wow, the coaching staff sound like they would ruin an under 8 side.

  • 119 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:38 PM

We didn’t underbid for PEA. From what I’ve seen, we actually bid more than Dortmund along with a Russian club, but the player made it clear that he wanted to go to Dortmund so off he went…

The Remy situation is a bit complicated isn’t it? His high wages and his rape case make it more complicated than a standard transfer.

  • 125 toon kk // Jul 29, 2013 at 7:42 PM

MA didn’t know what he was getting into when he bought the club, it’s cost him more than he ever imagined and he thought the money would be rolling in every year through selling players that has come through the ranks for millions, but football doesn’t work like that all the time. Now he wants his money back and the only way forward in his eyes is to gamble by holding back his transfer funds.

Somebody mentioned the ambition shown in bidding 15M for PEA, reminds me a bit of the laughable last minutes bids for Insomnia and Ruiz, it would be unthinkable for a proven liar to appease the fans with bids that will be known to be turned down.
    On Gomis,

I’m saying that we have judged these players as not good enough…as far as we know Hooper is a late developer and turns out to be the next Ian Wright…and then a lot of clubs will have missed out on him, not just us.

I’d be bothered if we had the option to sign him for £5M and then late on in the transfer window he moved to Arsenal…but there’s no evidence to show that these are top players. Has anyone on here scouted any of them by watching them in several matches and seeing them train? Or have they just looked at the stats on Wikipedia and maybe seen a highlight reel…

Would anyone on here really be happy to shell out 12m euros on a player who has 1 year left on a contract. Thats what Lyon are asking and i am pleased to see that we have ceased discussions with them.
As for the comments being made that MA claims to be skint where did that come from? Since 2007 I cant recall any media interview ever being given by MA on any topic let alone NUFC.
Saying he wont spend money is wide of the mark also and the club does not go after quality. Look at the players signed up under MA and think again.
As for spending money, NUFC Ltd is an entity in its own right just as MA is individual. The bottom line is although he owns the Company he is spending within the clubs limitations. As a poster said earlier the gate receipts/merchandise generate 30 – 35m a year only and the club has a turnover of 85m approx per annum does not put us up there to spend millions on fees and wages unlike the likes of City or Chelsea who are bankrolled by owners in a different league to ours or Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool who have global revenue streams we can only dream of.
Fact is we DO have a stronger squad than this time last year.
Fact transfers are difficult to complete unless the buying club simply throws money around as if its going out of fashion.
Fact to the doom mongerers is the club will add to the squad.
Fact is Pardew knows displays and results have to improve so before we have even kicked a ball in the new PL season lets just wait until end of August to see where we are at and then start the moaning and slagging.

    Cabaye off?

    Mohamed Diamé for Newcastle?

According to our sources (North east area), Newcastle United football club will make enquires on West Ham united midfielder Mohamed Diamé. Our source state no contact has been at this moment but that will change in near future, many other English clubs have already made enquires for his services. West Ham still hope the player will stay and carry on his fine form.

I’d disagree with your point saying we have a stronger squad than last year.

We had Ba and Cisse who between them could guarantee at least 30 goals, now we have Cisse. Losing at least 10/15 goals makes the squad alot weaker than just having more midfield players.

I think we need a pacey kind of striker like remy more than a deep lying type like gomis. I would prefer a permanent deal for remy because it is pretty likely qpr will go up next year and even if remy wants to stay at that time, qpr can name a price and we’d have to pay and it would be a lot more than the current 6mil release clause.Sign him up and risk the outcome of his trial.

  • 172 Jackel001 // Jul 29, 2013 at 8:09 PM

Hmm not sure about this one! Fat Sam fought and fought for him to stay but then again west ham need funds after the cash they spent on the Carroll.

  • 173 Jail for Ashley // Jul 29, 2013 at 8:10 PM

Of what consequence is it to you whether he has one year left or had just signed a new six year deal, if we don’t bring somebody in we will be left with a strike force that scored six goals in the last ten games of the season, leaving it until January could effectively see us relegated.

  • 179 yo-yo // Jul 29, 2013 at 8:22 PM

Naw you just seem a bit down from your recent posts.
    SNAFU for the Toon mind.

I’d have put a positive spin on the comments by Guti and Cabaye that AP has learnt from his mistakes and is improving fitness and stamina and really trying to get the guys to pass and move.
As you’ll know I was highly critical of the ‘pass and stand still’ style of play we had last season and the awful lapses in the last 20 minutes in many games which I reckoned was poor conditioning. Half way to solving problems is admitting you’ve got them. If we’re not going to sign anybody might as well hope the lads improve on the pitch

Then you have the OVER positive posters. Who no doubt are from the mold its not the winning that counts its the taking part.

30 goals between them? They could not even play together as a front pairing and upto Ba leaving Cisse was played left side and scored how many?

no consequence to me on personal level but point is that 12m euros for an average striker with 1 year of a contract left is too much no matter who you are. Also IF is a very big word. Just because the club have not secured the extra striker to date does not mean they wont.
I know from your posts you very much dislike MA but as i said lets see where we are at end of August and then judge.

derby were quoting 10 mill for there young starlet.
a lot of money considering carlos tevez went for the same price to juve
Another concern for me is that we seem to be concentrating all of our efforts on one player at a time until something inevitably happens and we lose out on him. What’s happening with the CH we need or the wingers? We could sign the best striker in the world but if we can’t get the ball to him or defend a lead what’s the point?.

  • 191 Sazzer // Jul 29, 2013 at 8:39 PM

Diame has a buy-out clause around 4 m £ if I remember correctly. That’s not that bad. It would allow us to play a 442-diamond formation with offensive FBs and Cabaye or Arfa in a freerole.

  • 195 Consett.Mag // Jul 29, 2013 at 8:40 PM

I don’t necessarily agree with those who say we have a stronger squad than last season. Defencively Debuchy has looked no better than Simpson and Goufran is a downgrade on Ba. By watching Sissoko so far and by reading the comments of Toulouse fans, Sissoko can be good but is very inconsistent, and its yet to be seen whether he can step up to the class of the premier league. Haidara is too young to have a major impact imo. The only improvement to the squad is Mbiwa and even that is marginal. When you bear in my mind every other team has strengthened while we have lost versatile players like Perch, we are far weaker than last season.

  • 196 JackButler // Jul 29, 2013 at 8:41 PM

bit of an extreme re the assasination comment. Lets remember its only football.
However, back to football and you have nailed it. We are a million miles away from Utd’s status on attracting and paying vast sums for key players and to make comparisons is a non starter for me buts thats me.
I do believe at least 2 senior players will be signed and displays will be bettered than last season.
Dont want to upset folk but some on here are somewhat deluded as to the true capabilities and size of NUFC. Big support does not automatically mean big club. The only way NUFC will, overnight, become a PL force is if we have an owner/s who will throw money around like confetti but that aint gona happen any time quick. Nice if it did but for now its the more slow n steady approach.

  • 218 toonking // Jul 29, 2013 at 8:58 PM

which team would you rather support at the minute
1 a team that is desperately in need of a forward but keeps seeming to fail

    2. a team that keeps getting their players lost to big teams such as Madrid

    3. a team that having just sold one striker now has also got a problem with their only other one who is now desperate to leave.

Sazzer the problem with the team you picked, including Diame in a midfield 3 is non of the three can pass the ball. Bit of a liability that if you fancy playing pass and move.

With our new Pass and Move, ticca tacca style, Parsnip must select this team.

Now that is a pass and move team, we would concede a boat load from dead balls mind, team of midget 5 a side players, unfortunately in the prem you do need a bit of beef, Sissoko should be made into the teams new enforcer, breaking up play in front of the back four and surging forward and setting away our counter attacks. My ideal team below.

    …………………Anita……The new Viera…………
    ………Marv…………Cabaye……….Ben Arfa……

We have a great team if its picked however Tiote and Jonas are going to have to be injured if its to happen.

  • 221 JackButler // Jul 29, 2013 at 8:59 PM

An absolute crying shame he is no longer with us. A shocker that one.

Robert wouldn’t have got 2 minutes for Pardew as he made Ginola look like a hard working winger. The boy had his moments though, in his first season he was dynamite.

I believe Marveaux could whip some Robert type crosses in if given the chance on the left. To think Pardew favoured Fergy over him is outrageous.

We dont have any wingers which used to be a great feature of our play long gone.

I think jfk is playing the transfer game to absolute perfection. He’s waiting till deadline day to sign players because he knows the longer pards has with them on the training ground the more likely their footy knowledge will be drained from them. This way we will get 2-3 good games tops out of the new boys.

Look at sissoko – hit the ground running and then after a couple of games pards frontal lobe lobotomised him.

They try to be so freakin clever; (a cockney trait), and lose out for the sake of a million or so that you would get back through league position and marketing, to say nothing of prestige!!!

Please, please, please, just sign someone before we all lose the freakin will to live listening to the classic cockney twang of that fish out of water called Pardew.

Life used to be so interesting at transfer windows; now it’s like watching paint dry !

  • 259 jazzyp // Jul 29, 2013 at 9:28 PM

Agree mate with the feeling that something is not adding up with how the club is carrying itself in this transfer window.
Its alright saying that the lads what came in to the club in January will be better prepared for the upcoming season,And I agree ,but take cisse out for god forbid a long term injury and we are going to be in some serious trouble. How many goals would you honestly expect from Shola-Gouffy all season……..15 at a push. That is not going to be enough to stay in the PL next season !!

  • 260 colwell // Jul 29, 2013 at 9:29 PM

Solano with his inch perfect outside of the boot passes. Dyer and Bellamy running teams ragged and Sir Bobby on the side in his suit shouting tactics out. They were awesome times. I doubt we will see days like that for a very long time.

I doubt even more we will ever have a manager of Sir Bobby’s caliber.

Owww my man….man those where the days alright …I LOVED Bellamy and that FOOL sold him. Man he had pace to burn something we only dream now. Thats the sort of football we need. I cant believe the club fired SBR absolute disgrace.

To me even Dyer was cool, when fit. we had pace we had passion we had that suspense. I dunno.

Man I dream of those days every once in a while I watch Robert tribute on you tube and want to shed a damn tear. Seeing SBR in the shots….beating Arsenal away, beating Leeds away. Those games…wooaah…

I also think everything will turn outright with Remy Gomis or Bent.

I watched Roberts goals last night, Fcuk me what a player. Now we have Jonas that brings a tear too my eye.

Even Jenas scoring screamers against UTD they were the days.

Shepard said sacking SBR was his biggest regret didn’t he, it should have been illegal to do that. Now we have a guy who isn’t fit to stand in the same place as SBR once did., but we have fallen hard since then and its gutting to see.

  • 275 Belfast // Jul 29, 2013 at 9:45 PM

If we where to sign two strikers and a winger, I’d probably be a lot more confident.

But the squad at the minute is probably worse of than last season, pick up a few injuries and we’re in trouble.

Plus you’ve still got Pardew and his dodgy tactics and dodgy team selections to contend with lol

  • 276 LGFUAD21 // Jul 29, 2013 at 9:45 PM

I support Ashley but ,y faith in him is wavering. I was optimistic at the beginning of the 5th place season. The new policy sounded great. I think he has a good plan but the wrong people in place.

I run my own company and sometimes you get people that talk the talk but can never execute plans. Pards and JFK are those people to me.

I wish ma would just sell up to someone with the same ideals but the ability to manage his investment properly.

The article someone posted about Pards and JFK earlier is too true. W were promised nice attacking football. We have a good squad with technical ability. But we waste talent. Cabaye being the main one. Has the potential to be one of the best mids in the game but he is wasted sat deep in our mid and expected to hoof ridiculous balls to an isolated cisse.

Switch Tiote with Anita or Cabaye. Bring Benny down and in with Gouffran or (Remy) or Vuckic as striker. And you would get little less power and but perhaps more flair.

Also with dynamic players around Tiote it will probably be easier for him to pick out a simple direct forward pass.

  • 282 colwell // Jul 29, 2013 at 9:56 PM

    Fcuk i’m getting depressed now.

I’m not sure how people can really be behind MA anymore? 1 good year the rest have been awful, he isn’t interested in us.

Whilst other teams buy players and improve their teams we have some great looking books.

A smaller squad, that behind the first 11 is p1ss poor. We always have injuries and always have done so when the inevitable happens and HBA,Cabaye,Cisse etc get injured we don’t have Prem standard players to replace them.

ATM we can only hope for better things but his track record doesn’t make it look good.

  • 302 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 29, 2013 at 10:28 PM

C’mon man, MON was simply found out for what he was – a mediocre manager.

He spent a relative fortune at both Celtic and Villa, which simply masked his deficiencies. When he was told the money was done at Villa he spat the dummy and walked away. When the money dried up at the Scum he was once more found out for what he is, and was pushed.

Any club with sense will stay away from him with a barge poll. The man is toxic.

  • 303 bills-son // Jul 29, 2013 at 10:28 PM

Some of us are willing the club in the right direction with positive energy, while others are deflated with what we see as the demise of our club.

I’m not saying we should go 4 O’Neill, i’m comparing him and Pardew and saying that O’Neill was found out when he hadn’t his right hand man with him, only saying that if we’re gonna hav 2 stick with Pardew then maybe we should bring in sumbody like Lee Clark 2 work as Pardews assistant

  • 309 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 29, 2013 at 10:37 PM

I would argue that if even he had his right hand man at Sunderland, he would have still failed, but I see your point.

We do need to improve our coaching set up, but whether Lee Clarke is the right man for that is up for debate, plus he is carving a decent managerial career, don’t think he’d like to step down and become an assistant.

And the missing one still may be with us. Agreed, we need 2, not 1, strikers, but current ownership has a track record of pulling off signings predicted by nobody, so it seems premature to despair.

Carver was SBR’s right hand man, but in all fairness, if a mop and bucket was SBR’s right hand man it’d have done a decent job mainly because SBR didn’t really need a right hand man.

When a top manager brings in an average coach, the coach’s weaknesses might not show up, but when a weak manager brings in a average coach, the whole house of cards will come tumbling down, which is what I think we’ve seen at our club.

Can we all agree whether we like it or not that Pardew has changed tack from a 4-4-2 formation ( we finished 5th) to a 4-3-3 he doesnt want FB to defend as much as we did but wants them to provide the width down the wings that Debuchy and Santon are suppose to provide. He wants 3 in attacking formation spherehead by cissse.

Therefore I can see why he wants Remy but where does Gomis fit in? as back up for Cisse??

I just dont get it, I, like some people would rather go back to 4-4-2 with defensive full backs and wingers but Pardew is not going to change.

Its funny isnt it when you look at the stats our highest scoring FB was Ryan Taylor I wonder if there are any stats on the old FB set up versus the new FB set up, Assists , crosses, goals etc.

  • 351 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 29, 2013 at 11:42 PM

More than likely 70k euros, which is around 60k, asking 3k more would have put him over the supposed cap.

We were never offering those wages anyway. We wouldn’t even offer Simmo more than something like 25 k.

  • 352 geordie157 // Jul 29, 2013 at 11:43 PM

we scout france like crazy but aren’t in for Boudebouz, pure madness!!

  • 353 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 11:43 PM

    Wolfshead/ Mr Robson

You’d think if we signed, I dunno say Hernandez then he would be a marquee signing for us, merchandise would be through the roof and he’d be paid for!

  • 354 9 // Jul 29, 2013 at 11:44 PM

    Spot on.

When you look at the finances of the top 20 European clubs (and it’s massively to our credit we manage to crawl in at no 20) we are light years away from competing with the top dogs. We are in the North East of England. End of story (multi-billionaire sheikh excepting – (no thanks))

  • 355 Toon73 // Jul 29, 2013 at 11:52 PM

It’s quite obvious Remy and Gomis are both signed.

  • 356 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 29, 2013 at 11:57 PM

    Is it?

  • 357 Big Pappa Cissé // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:01 AM

The only thing Ashley has signed is Kinnear’s holiday form.

  • 358 Toon73 // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:11 AM

I’m happy for you throw pie in my face if not Ruddy…if you can find me 🙂

  • 359 Toonacious T // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:17 AM

I don’t think any of our players are at a level to be playing for Bayern, Barca, Real or Dortmund. If they wanted them then they could get them easily enough. As for Hernandez, he could get a much better offer in terms of both wages and trophies. We want to drink champagne but Ashley only wants to spend beer money. Total joke now!

  • 360 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:18 AM

That’d just be a waste of good pie 😉

  • 361 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:18 AM

It’s almost August and as predicted we haven’t signed any players!

…I always wondered what’s a work day like for Joke and rest of the gang…not to mention a whole work week? What do you think they spend their time on (especially during transfer season)

    * They are not signing players apparently!!!

  • 362 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:20 AM

    * I have heard word feud should be very popular on Ipad 😉 lol

  • 363 The Arizona Geordie Pizzicato // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:21 AM

    We have signed Kemen.

  • 364 Thump // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:43 AM

While I’m not doubting that Kemen is a decent young player, I hardly think a 17 year old is going to help our Premier League campaign.

  • 365 p // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:52 AM

Kemen is the new alex song apparently

I agree with some others on here. I think we are after 1-2 strikers – no out of the blue signings – they are likely from bent, remy and gomis and may well go to the wire as we play hard ball

It is the normal mash strategy of putting an objective market price ahead of what value a potential signing might represent to the club. It’s a gamble and we will get who is left if anyone.

It’s a shame, i would have liked to have seen sinclair or another winger signed

  • 366 Fostino // Jul 30, 2013 at 12:59 AM

shame we didnt get aubemyang..he’s is class..oid have been very happy with him and ince

  • 367 lesh // Jul 30, 2013 at 1:24 AM

    Big Pappa Cissé

Surely Joe’s not put in another holiday form in for Ashley to sign off?

Cheeky tw@, he’s here five minutes and he’s taking time off as though it was going out of fashion.

Come to think of it, he hasn’t ut a full week in yet!

Speaking of Cisse, if the reports about Gomis being offered €90k, then that’ll not go down too well with the rest of the players – particularly Pappis.

  • 368 MC Brown // Jul 30, 2013 at 1:26 AM

What I am saying is that it might be a good idea to test Santon out on the left wing for the few games remaining in pre-season, going forward is his strongest point and from the one or two he has put in he’s arguably our best crosser of the ball.

  • 369 Fostino // Jul 30, 2013 at 1:55 AM

    mc brown

agreed he’s a good attacker for us but his crossing aint great. i do agree he could do a job on the wing but is haidira good enough to start

  • 370 coastalboy // Jul 30, 2013 at 1:57 AM

Looks like the writer got a bit lazy & just changed Gomis for Remy

  • 371 toonicle // Jul 30, 2013 at 2:57 AM

One good striker (not Remy hopefully) and Sinclair or someone close to him and I would be satisfied. Van Wolfswinkel is going to be a great player this year, shame we can’t seem to get our transfer business straight at all.

  • 372 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jul 30, 2013 at 4:08 AM

Guessing we need to loan him just in case he is convicted… argh, not a very nice situation to be signing someone charged with rape….

Anyone else worried that all of our (extremely mediocre) transfer targets are failing very publicly? It seems like we’ll be spending nothing this summer.

Phil Bardsley?!?!?! Are you F*&king Serious?!?! Why not just keep Simpson, Bardsley’s far worse than Danny Simpson!

  • 373 nut meg // Jul 30, 2013 at 5:05 AM

Any of you Holland based people on here seen Dusan Tadic,he’s 24 years old & plays for FC Twente ? I’m interested to hear your opinion .I’ve only seen him on you tube so can’t really tell one way or the other. His stats are 1/played 101 2/ 26 goals scored 3/ 43 assists. Transfer market have him at 10m euro. He’s down as a AMF / can play either wing & also 2 footed. Pretty impressive & was mentioned by somebody on a earlier post.Opinion please gents.

  • 374 Zero // Jul 30, 2013 at 5:28 AM

lol if this is true then MA hasnt learnt anything lol

  • 375 lesh // Jul 30, 2013 at 5:35 AM

It’s good to see that our Director of Football has managed to convince Ashley of the need to strengthen our squard.

We’re clearing some dead wood and ….. and, err ….

  • 376 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jul 30, 2013 at 6:56 AM

Lesh…I know, it is very difficult to finish that sentense isn’t it 😉 lol

…and I keep asking myself why was it we needed a DoF again?…was it because we needed another mouthpiece to control or was it because we needed maybe transfer dealings to be made?

It sure is a tricky one! 😉

  • 377 cyprus // Jul 30, 2013 at 7:35 AM

Looking at how much they’ve played in pre-season, is it correct to predict order of importance? Well, no. Fitness, religion and other factors come in. Still, worrying to see Obertan, Taylor so high up. I’d see them as subs next year.

    Yanga-Mbiwa 267
    Elliot 225
    S.Taylor 213
    Sissoko 191
    Dummett 185
    Sa.Ameobi 173
    Gouffran 162
    Anita 159
    Tiote 135
    Obertan 119
    Santon 115
    Marveaux 107
    Vuckic 102
    Sh.Ameobi 101
    Cabaye 90, Gutierrez 90, Tavernier 90
    Debuchy 85
    Williamson 77
    Campbell 49
    Alnwick 45, Ben Arfa 45
    Coloccini 36
    Abeid 22
    Ferguson 16
    Amalfitano 7, Richardson 7, Streete 7

  • 378 Ben3arfa // Jul 30, 2013 at 7:43 AM

This is turning out to be an embarassing window for us yet again!

Ps. I dont believe Aulas’ claims that the Gomis deal fell off because of wage demands.

As Lee Ryder mentioned, usually a player only discusses personal terms once a fee has been agreed. Hence , Gomis’ reps trip to Newcastle yesterday was cancelled.

Dirty people these football chairmen .

Hate to repeat myself, but could I respectfully refer you to my post at 319. We already got our summer signings six months ago, bar one.
