Reports in France today suggested that Newcastle have broken off talks with Lyon for their 27 year-old striker Bafetimbi Gomis, and will now concentrate on trying to tie up a deal for Loic Remy of QPR this week.
Loic Remy – will Newcastle now try to sign him to permanent deal?
One good question is whether Newcastle will now try to sign Loic Remy outright, after they seem to have pulled away from the Gomis deal.
We were surprised that Newcastle were only going for a loan deal for Remy, but in an article we put out on Saturday that seemed a sensible approach for a number of reasons that we detailed, and one of those was that Remy was still on bail from a rape charge.
So we would expect Newcastle to still try to negotiate a loan deal for next season for the 18 times capped french International, and that will not cost too much – maybe a loan fee and to an agreement to pay some of Remy’s £75K/week wages he is getting at QPR.
Darren Bent is the other striker we are interested in – we know that because Alan Pardew has told the world we are after Gomis, Remy and Bent – but why Alan did that we have no idea, and it’s always best to keep quiet on the specific players the club is after.
But there is news today that Fulham may become interested in Darren Bent again, after they missed out on their top target, Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo – and they may be willing to pay out the money Aston Villa are demanding for 29 year-old Bent – since they have a new Billionaire owner, Shahid Khan, who recently bought the club.
We think any two of Gomis, Remy and Bent would be good for Newcastle – with our preference for Gomis and Remy.
