Newcastle Step Up Pace To Sign Remy – Fulham After Bent

3:28 pm, Monday, July 29th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 93 Comments

Reports in France today suggested that Newcastle have broken off talks with Lyon for their 27 year-old striker Bafetimbi Gomis, and will now concentrate on trying to tie up a deal for Loic Remy of QPR this week.

France/Malte- Espoirs - 05.09.2008 - Qualifications - Euro2009 -

Loic Remy – will Newcastle now try to sign him to permanent deal?

One good question is whether Newcastle will now try to sign Loic Remy outright, after they seem to have pulled away from the Gomis deal.

We were surprised that Newcastle were only going for a loan deal for Remy, but in an article we put out on Saturday that seemed a sensible approach for a number of reasons that we detailed,  and one of those was that Remy was still on bail from a rape charge.

So we would  expect Newcastle to still try to negotiate a loan deal for next season for the 18 times capped french International, and that will not cost too much – maybe a loan fee and to an agreement to pay some of Remy’s £75K/week wages he is getting at QPR.

Darren Bent is the other striker we are interested in – we know that because Alan Pardew has told the world we are after Gomis, Remy and Bent – but why Alan did that we have no idea, and it’s always best to keep quiet on the specific players the club is after.

But there is news today that Fulham may become interested in Darren Bent again, after they missed out on their top target, Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo – and they may be willing to pay out the money Aston Villa are demanding for 29 year-old Bent – since they have a new Billionaire owner, Shahid Khan, who recently bought the club.

We think any two of Gomis, Remy and Bent would be good for Newcastle – with our preference for Gomis and Remy.

What do you think?

    RE post:

    Holy Grail

Your logic is flawed when applied to the Gomis deal.

Strikers are commodities and sometimes you have to pay a little extra for a decent striker.

Lyon have told the world their minimum price is 10 million euros, Gomis and his representatives have leaked to the press his desire to join NUFC and the only thing standing in the way was NUFC’s offer for the player.

His reps were due to fly to Tyneside today, we didn’t have a bigger club come in to slow the deal, it was OUR decision to not meet the asking price, it was OUR decision to cool down the interest and OUR decision to cancel meeting his reps.

    What again. ……

    Kinnear you are useless

Massive thunderstorm in crammy now.Jfk has finally recovered the one ring, all the hobbits have drowned, the elves have p1ssed off across the sea, and now Jfk will destroy Northeast Earth!

  • 4 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:32 PM

Won’t be surprised if this amounts to nothing.

  • 5 G // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:33 PM

If it boils down to prefereneces for players, going on ability I would take Remy every time out of the three. Gomis, is skillful but slower than continental drift, Bent is a walking attitude problem who is bone idle on the pitch. If we do sign Remy on loan with an option to buy, then it’s win-win all round as far as I’m concerned.

  • 6 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:34 PM

    Breaking news:

Dictionaries will now contain an image of Kinnear as the sole definition of the word useless as well as using Pardew to define tw@t.

  • 7 Markaccus // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:35 PM

If remy does sign, im sure most of us agree we still need another foward.

  • 8 hotdog // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:39 PM

I feel like im on one of these 🙂

  • 9 geordie1892 // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:39 PM

I would be quite comfortable having Cisse, Remy Gouffran, Shola and Campbell untill January.

We desperately need some proper wingers

  • 10 Belfast // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:41 PM

Sign them both, if we can’t get Gomis.

  • 11 croftus5678 // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:42 PM

    @7 mark

i agree as we need a bully type to lead the line imo.
remy would be class in a 3 prong with cisse and goofy but it still means if cisse (the most forward) striker gets injured we are buggered.

  • 12 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:44 PM

So gomis is the second CF we’ve bid and then retracted a bid for
JFK is doing a bang up job like

  • 13 JP...from The Rock // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:46 PM

Oh ffs just meet his release clause, theirs your wage and if you’re found guilty you or your club owe us money not the other way round.

Why do we take fcuking leap years to sign someone geeeezz! BORING

  • 14 Markaccus // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:46 PM

Yeah. I think gomis would have been this player, likewise Bent or Gignac. Shola is the only option we have now, which is not exactly wonderful news.

  • 15 JaxtheMag // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:46 PM

any striker that wants upwards of 40k a week is out of our reach, thats why we are tryin to get remy on loan, sorry but it wont happen.

  • 16 Belfast // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:47 PM

Yep Kinnear is doing a great job, just like Llambias. Two flucking turkeys the both of them.

  • 17 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:48 PM

There is no point in signing Bent, not only will it take him months 2 be match fit, but also he’s 2 similar Cisse in da way he’s more suited 2 number 9. There’s no chance he will be choosen ahead of cisse, which mean he will sit on the bench, when he comes on he will do nothin and every1 will say he’s crap, waste of money, lost it years ago. Bent will have 2 go somewhere he can’t get 1st team football, and that’s not newcastle

  • 18 toon kk // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Keegan said after he quit Newcastle under the MA circus that due to the lack of football knowledge within the club they have no idea about getting transfers in, always no organisation and penny pinching and missing out on targets!
How right he was. (Joke club)!

  • 19 viv // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:48 PM

If we are to believe the propaganda that NUFC, is a forward thinking club. Then why have they brought call me Joe, the guy that relegated us and blamed the legend that is Shearer for his cock-up back? The more you watch and listen to these thick twats the more you realise they are having a laugh at our expense. Call me joe doesn’t know what day it is never mind which strikers to sign, the guy’s been out of football since he collapsed with a heart attack. No take anything these chancers say with pinch of salt.

At least Lambias got players in… eventually.. and more than one…

JFK has done what exactly? We got rid of turd… only to be given an even bigger pile of turd…

  • 21 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:50 PM

  • 24 MonkseatonMag // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:53 PM

………and yet again we have a pre-season with players coming in either too late or not at all.

Surely the idea of a pre-season is to bed in new players to work with new team mates, and to understand and work in line with the manager’s thinking. (OK strike the last)

  • 25 ~Joke-innear~ // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:53 PM

JFK makes Dennis Wise and Derek Llambias look like professionals.

  • 26 plana // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:56 PM

Would ashley, let Kinnear, run one of his stores?

  • 27 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:56 PM

Remy maybe taking a pay cut to come newcastle, but prices for everything in london is double anyway, like properties. Surely he won’t we loose out 2 much. And even if he does, its not like he won’t survive on 40k a week

  • 28 89Norcal // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:56 PM

Remy might be a better choice anyways if not for his pace.

I was totally against signing him before but of course we are getting desperate now, but does anyone else have the feeling him and Cisse won’t gel very well?

  • 29 Markaccus // Jul 29, 2013 at 3:58 PM

What i find perplexing is this….

After the dennis wise c0ck up, Ashley admitted it was a mistake, and said he had learned from it. So, why in the name of syphillitic monkey sperm has he done EXACTLY the same thing?

  • 30 Markaccus // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:01 PM

I reckon remy and cisse would be an ideal partnership. Cisse and ba both were similar types of player, whereas remy is the type of pacy forward who could play off cisse.

  • 31 johnboy // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:01 PM

I reckon pards has named the playes we are after to stitch up JFK and make it harder for him to actually do what he said he was in the position to do and give us the best possible squad!

ba wasnt really the same as cisse in many ways !
ba was strong had good hold up and knew the offside rule ^^
while cisse is faster has a more powerful shot but weak.
i would have thought that if remy was his ideal partner then goofy would have linked well with him as they both have a very simular playing style !

i have no idea who/what of if cisse has a chance of finding a good partner tbh or what attributes he would need.

personal opinion is to forget a partner for him and concentrate on others who can score goals and let cisse do what he pleases in a striking role and if he links with others around him then fair enough and if not we still have goals.

  • 47 the holy grail // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:19 PM

Toon avenger i was using a potential senario as a motivation not to over pay, must have been using the same crystal ball you used to say 10 mil is the price, what he says in the press and to nufc could be very different and you assume is was gomis nd his reps who leaked the story of wanting to go to nufc and not lyon leaking the story which has worked in your case to put pressure on nufc to pay what they want as fans get anxious and want a player in????????

Please dont talk about flawed logic as you imply you kniw better about transfer dealings and that its an easy process its nit champ manager. Of corse you know how to run a club better than men with decades of experience or a business better than a self made billionaire.

Mattynufc i cant speak for pards and in a way big joe has taken pressure off him in terms on transfers i can just talk about the processes.

  • 48 plana // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:22 PM

We see teams spending millions, then there’s us. Supposedly owned by a billionaire who always claiming he is skint. He rakes millions in from transfers of Carroll and TV rights etc. The whole setup screams hard up: from the manager to the screaming skull director of football.

  • 49 johnboy // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:23 PM

More like 1-2 years wages, there has to be a clause in his contract! If not its been a ridiculous decision to give him that 8 year contract!

  • 50 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:23 PM

  • 52 Markaccus // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:26 PM

Well i agree that they had differences, but they both prefered a central role, and both tried the same things when played there. Cisse was just not suited to the wide role at all. It blew his confidence.

    The holy grail
    Decades of experience! Hahahahahahaha aaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha

Oh aye great experience JFK has in clubs relegated
And yes, he is a self made billionaire, selling sports wear
The bloke has no clue about running a football club and that painfully obvious by the inept idiots he has surrounded himself with

So how much have Lyon asked for gomis?
Is it much more than the €10 mil they have said it will cost from day one?
And just how do other clubs manage to conduct there business in a quick professional manner?

  • 55 mindshaft // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:28 PM

    Okay some known facts

    1. QPR have already said they want to sell Remy and will not do loan deals

    2. Remy has a potential rape charge hanging over his head

    3. Remy is on anything between 60 – 80k a week

    4. We refuse to pay 80k a week

    5. He will not take a wage cut to leave London for Newcastle ( I wouldn’t and I’m from there).

I just can’t see this happening, this is all a JFK ruse to get the fans to think we’re trying to sign players when in reality they spent this summers money last Jan

  • 56 Toon_Tom // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:30 PM

Mindshaft @55 QPR are willing to loan a couple of players out

  • 57 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:30 PM

We’re trying to do what we did with Cisse again…it worked with Cisse…and we got him at a bargain price, but we got him 5 months too late!

I’m all for hard negotiations, and the bad old days of overspending on the likes of Boumsong, Luque, Marcelino etc. are well behind us…but they better be prepared to stump up a little extra if it gets to the last week and we still haven’t brought that striker in.

  • 58 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:30 PM

Mike Ashley is like one of those benefit fraud chavies, claims poverty, gets as much money off others as he can, asks for more freebies as he can’t afford nout but has a spanking new motor on the drive with a 60″ TV in his front room!

  • 59 toon kk // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:31 PM

I really have NO idea why MA bought the club apart from advertising his sports business.
He hasn’t one bit of ambition for the club and couldn’t give a f..k about us as fans. What a joke!

  • 60 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:33 PM

Agree, can’t wait until jan this time
Sorry mike but its time to start checking down the back of the sofa, he’ll if we’re scratching that much get shot of JFK and actually put his wages towards something useful

  • 61 isleofmanman // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:33 PM

Its a fact that big signings are frequently the outcome of the reputation of the Manager/coaches

Bless my soul if we didnt rely on JK and lose another top target

For as long as commitment and ability to stay out of jail are unknowns then Remy must be regarded as high risk and a loan deal must be a good logical non-panic solution

  • 62 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:34 PM

More folk going on about the owner being a billionaire…

People just need to accept that very few of the owners actually spend (as in give) their own money on football clubs. Sure, Chelski and City do, the others just use the club finances or put the club into debt to finance more players. West Ham for example will put the club into debt, then they will get relegated as they won’t qualify for Europe and they’ll sink back into mediocrity in the championship for a few seasons, selling all their biggest earners and getting things back on an even keel. The mackems have done the same.

    It’s not MA’s money, it’s NUFCs!

The bridges were well and truly burned for MA to spend his own cash buying players for us. He was sitting with the fans and behaving like one of them when he brought in KK without (again) doing his due diligence…

  • 63 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:35 PM

Given how far behind Indy is with real news he’ll probably be announcing our deal with that online betting company

  • 64 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:37 PM

If JFK doesn’t actually bring in at least 1 striker, at least 1 attacking player and a few younger players, then he’ll have failed his probation conditions surely???

Either that or MA screwed up and should have brought him in months ago.

Actually, he probably should have brought in someone else.

The whole footballing world knows that we are in the market for a striker so they will play silly buggers on the price…

  • 65 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:39 PM

If we could guarantee that Cisse would remain fit and be in good form until January, then I reckon we’d still be top 10 by then, but we can’t! If Cisse gets injured, then I really don’t have much confidence in Goofy, Ameobi and Campbell to score the goals we need. Goofy looks decent but hasn’t shown that he can lead the line in the PL.

Glad to know that finally at the age of 51 Pardew has had an epiphany with the concept of ”pass and move”. Under his tutelage we have been the most static team I have ever seen with no one- twos, triangles, overlapping or going beyond the the man with the ball.

I get it completely. Why can’t people just go to the football match to support the football team? The fans of Liverpool and Man Utd have had problems with the owners but they mostly keep their complaints away from the football pitch. We don’t want to end up like Blackburn do we?

Protesting is absolutely pointless anyway. He’s not going to sell up because of that and all it would do is discourage any potential buyer because they will not want to be on the receiving end.

There have been several improvements this summer already:
    – the new Director of Performance
    – improvements with communicating with the fans
    – a football man as DoF (oh dear…sorry, forgot that was JFK)

Beyond signing the players that we need to round the squad off this summer, I’m not sure what people realistically expect from our owner?

I just think that MA goes for people that he trusts and that he can work with. Possibly also people that he knows he can boss around…

When it comes to JFK the only people that matter are the fans (when he’s shouting his gob off) and the players/staff (when he’s actually doing his job). He’s stopped shouting his mouth off, we haven’t lost any top players yet and we haven’t heard any discontent within the squad relating to him.

I still think that if he does his job then I’m fine with that. We’ve got an obsession with getting foreigners in when quite often their record isn’t as good as the British guy that we wouldn’t want.

Bet you we would of signed two strikers by now if PSG had signed Cabaye for £25 million.

He does not like to fund transfers from Ashley piggy bank…. Simple when you think about it. That’s why they all keep saying ” it’s going to cost a lot to sign our players”

The management are constantly touting the player’s.

  • 80 ToonDarnSarf // Jul 29, 2013 at 4:53 PM

And you know, I don’t have a problem with the decks being cleared a little. I want Pardew to want every single player to stay because I want him to focus on the players and the team. I don’t want him to give a stuff about our wage to revenue ratio or whether a player cost £15M or £150k. I just want him to manage the players and pick the best team that he can.

But…to do that, someone has to make the call on whether a player is earning his wages or not. We obviously aren’t privy to players’ contracts and every million saved is either a million invested back in the squad or a million getting our debt down.

The former we all obviously want, the latter we actually also want because the lower the debt, the more attractive we are to buy…

The point being that being there with the banner at the match means their money is going to Ashley.

Whoever, owns / owned them, ManU & Liverpool are way, way more successful than us in comparison and have had nowhere near the c..p we have had to put up with..

How is it pointless exactly to boycott? Has it ever been done? I’m pretty sure I would panic if I had wages to meet and the ground was half full for a couple of games.
If that doesn’t send a message what would?

So if fans aren’t prepared for short term pain for long term gain they really can’t complain about the lack of decent class, investment or manager.

The wheels turns again and nowt changes!

Just proves that Mashley is in total charge of negotiations and has only employed JFK cos he’s a pal and feels sorry for him.
I would say that Gomis is still a 50/50 chance late on in window as I can’t see anyone else paying over 7 mill for him cos he just ain’t worth it.
Suppose it all depends on how much of the Remy’s wages floppy chops wants us to pay on that transfer.
Whoever comes in it’s certainly goin to be late on now which raises the question of will they hit the ground running:
    1) Gomis – different country/harder,faster league?
2)Remy – court case on his mind?
3)Bent – has he kept himself fit?
Worried is a very weak sounding word right now!

that second team is the one I would go with myself with anita and Jonas along side cabaye and marvo I looked at the skysports news and it showed that last season marvo anita and cabaye were the best 3 to create chances

How would it put off a buyer? They’d probably see it as chance to get it cheaper. Takeovers are rare when everything is hunky dory. Owners will generally take a hit on a club in turmoil.

But going to a match doesn’t mean that their money is going to Ashley, it means that their money is going to NUFC! That money is then used to pay wages, buy players and the day to day running of the club. If NUFC makes a profit then MA can take back some of the money that he loaned the club.

It’s just banging your head against a brick wall to try and organise a boycott. There’s no way that enough fans will back that and we would make our club look even more of a joke than it already does to the rest of the football world.

So tell me, realistically…what do you really want to happen?

expatmag – afternoon/evening – just got back into the house after getting some new specs (no jokes please).
What we lack in the sense of forward play – is a powerful type of player who can bully defences/ burst through the last line of defence. Gomis may fit the bill, Bony definitely would have fit the bill. Those suggesting a forward to play off Cisse are 180 degrees out. We need a power forward so Cisse can play off them.
Re-organising a forward line with Shola and or Goufran will not answer our powder puff forward line – we will be lacking on the goal scoring front. Some of the verbals coming from Percy are very worrying -possible re-run of last season. We also need a big commanding CB.

We put millions into the club and get nothing in return gonna be a long season

Anybody in doubt about the real Mike Ashley should read this. Says it all.

  • 91 whatsup // Jul 29, 2013 at 9:39 PM

We may well still end up getting both Gomis and Remy for the price we are seemingly willing to pay and out valuations -but it will probably be mid/end of Aug. season has started, we have 2 new vital players for the team with no pre season- both new to the area, new team mates. We saved 3-4 million, but have lost half a season and probably 6-8 points – maybe 3-4 league positions – false economy if you ask me

There is so much better than Bent, Gomis or Remy. If JFK is serious about NUFC getting into the CL, then those three won’t help much. Plus, this club’s current management have shown in the past that they CAN keep their targets a secret. So, I wonder if they haven’t been pursuing a 20M+ striker in the background. Carr is more than just a bargain bin spotter, and he has been rather quiet lately.

Same old stuff with newcastle transfer news.
Newcastle bid for gomis, newcastle pull out gomis, newcastle raise bid for gomis, newcastle pull out gomis.
Newcastle want remy, newcastle dont then do etc.
Same with bent, same with any player newcastle get linked with, its been going on for weeks and its nothing but boring now!!.
To even consider signing bent is a step backwards, especially with cisse having no playmaking ability as he proved last season when ignoring the simple pass across goal for a tap in quite a few times, bent only scores tap ins so I cant see them 2 working well at all.
