The Birmingham Mail is reporting today that Darren Bent is now close to leaving Aston Villa, but it looks as though Newcastle may not be his final destination.
Darren Bent– Fulham are moving in
We had reported yesterday that since the Cottagers had missed out recently their top target, Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo, they would probably become interested again in the 13 times capped England International.
The Birmingham Mail are reporting that sources in London are telling them that Fulham have made two bids for the player, which are believed to be under £5M for the player, and both bids have been rejected by Villa.
The 29 year-old striker who has no future at Villa, who are trying to recuperate as much of the £18M they spent on him two and half years ago, when they signed him from Sunderland.
The news is that Newcastle may consider a bid, but it seems both clubs only want him for a reasonable fee, which is probably nowhere near what Aston Villa want.
Newcastle have lost out in Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, and the news yesterday was that Newcastle have turned their attentions to Loic Remy of QPR, and are trying to get the French striker on a one year loan deal.
But Newcastle may now miss out on another of their striker targets if Fulham can do a deal for Bent, and the Tyneside club may have to go further down their list of targets, if we are to get two good strikers through the door this summer, which is what Newcastle need.

Comment #4This is turning out to be an embarassing window for us yet again!
Ps. I dont believe Aulas’ claims that the Gomis deal fell off because of wage demands.
As Lee Ryder mentioned, usually a player only discusses personal terms once a fee has been agreed. Hence , Gomis’ reps trip to Newcastle yesterday was cancelled.
Dirty people these football chairmen .

Comment #5If we signed Remy and Gomis I think we could class it as a satisfactory window although yet again I wont be giving the fat man any credit for it for leaving it so late, as it happens I can’t see us signing both and it will be one or the other.

Comment #11Ben3arfa @4 – I think you are right. I thought one of the reasons we go after French players is because the average wage in England is a lot higher than France so they can get a good wage rise and we don’t have to break our wage cap.

Signing Bent would have been a big mistake but that does not excuse the disgraceful lack of ambition and common sense being shown at this club.
