Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse will play tonight at St. Mirren, and he has revealed he consulted Islamic teachers before deciding the wear the Wonga sign on his Newcastle shirt and training gear this season.
Papiss Cisse greets Yohan Cabaye wearing Wonga training kit
Cisse missed the Portugal training camp a couple of weeks ago, which really brought attention to his refusal to wear the Wonga sign on his shirt, but then last Thursday he finally agreed to wear the shirt.
Papiss has given an exclusive interview on the Newcastle web-site today, and the 28 year-old had this to say:
“I have had some useful discussions with my club, my family and Islamic teachers in the last few weeks. After a huge amount of thought and reflection I have made the decision to follow my teammates and wear the kit.
“Now I think it is important for the team and the fans that we concentrate 100% on football.” “Although I did not go to Portugal on the training camp, I was back here working hard on my fitness and preparing for the start of the new season.”
“Since then it has been great to be training with my teammates again. I feel great and ready to go, and cannot wait to be out there against St. Mirren on Tuesday and to play my part for the team.”
The probable truth about him finally agreeing to wear Wonga was when photos of him surfaced apparently betting at a Newcastle casino, and that blew up his case, and shortly after that he agreed to wear the Wonga shirt.
And in our poll, a vast majority of Newcastle fans thought he had undermined his case by visiting Aspers Casino in Newcastle – because betting is also against Sharia law.
But that’s all water under the Tyne Bridge now – it’s over with – and we are looking forward to seeing Papiss Cisse smash in those great goals for Newcastle, hopefully starting tonight at St. Mirren.

No problem with the French players who on the most part have been excellent. Have far more of a problem with Saylor, Tiote, Jonas, Gosling and Shola.

Comment #91Official – They shot the wrong JFK in 1963!
Same old Toon chasing loads of players but never sign anyone. Yes need two strikers but also need to replace Harps, Simmo & Perchino & offload, Willo, Gosling & Obertan.
Won’t happen – wait for crisis buys at Xmas

how will he get experience if we don’t give him a go?
Inexperience is not his fault. If we had a half decent coaching set up it wouldn’t be a problem.

Crazy wasn’t it. Pardew got plaudits for 5th but really he bottled a CL spot by ditching our superb 433. Go figure!!

Even Debuchy getting impatient, hes only been here 6 months. Im starting to get really really pi+*ed off with this now. Heard a couple of weeks ago that were the only team in all 4 leagues not to make a first team signing yet. And weve had 2 wks since then!!!! Its just a complete and utter joke.

I do not have a problem with French players, I have a problem with US solely buying French and letting other players of other nationalities go.

Sporadic bids in for players for fun.
Lol, what they doing?
Bent
Kone
Remy
Gomis
Niang.
There gambling again and we all know how that normally affects are season.
Players are starting to speak up, it’s in danger of damaging morale just like last summer going into the new season for the players.
I really don’t know why they do it. So unprofessional.
Bewildering.

Must say I too get the feeling that Ashley’s setting the club for an attempt at selling. Maybe not an active, high profile sale but I suspect he’d be open to sensible offers.
Why do J say that? There’s been no major outlay on players thus window, the squad’s costs are being reduced through sales, contract ends and outgoing loans.
JfK’s appointment spoke volumes and I’d guess he’ll be on a relatively low paid fixed-term or easily terminated contract so as not to lace a new owner with that particular overhead on the books.
As far as incoming players are concerned, if we see loans coming in (loanees would be a revenue expense on the books, rather than a capital one… I think), maybe that may add weight to a potential sale.
So, where to? In any event, we must get behind the ream and the manager – after all, the more successful the team, the more attractive we could be to a potential buyer. We certainly don’t need protests or demonstrations of disatisfaction – we don’t want a potential buyer not being keen on buying hostile supporters!
Fingers crossed and hope for a good season this year.
On that note, I’m getting into the cellar before the bombs start flying toward me!!

Comment #110I’ve seen a few posts saying that it was when we changed 4-3-3 into 4-4-2 that it cost us the CL well i think you need to check your history books because it was during that 10 game unbeaten streak we were using 4-4-2. the team was
simmo saylor colo raylor
marvo cabaye Guthrie Jonas
ba best
then things change at city and we started going 4-5-1
simmo saylor colo raylor
HBA cabaye Guthrie Jonas
Sammy
ba
when we played united in January we went back to 4-4-2 and got a couple of wins but then things changed against Fulham and we went 4-2-3-1 and lost 5-2
if i am lying about any of this then the official Newcastle site is lying too.
as for the champions league itself well even if we did finish 4th we still would not be allow to have played in the CL as Chelsea took that spot.
