When you are in the transfer market for players, you need to move quickly and with secrecy and get your targets in as soon as possible, otherwise other clubs will start to move in – especially if they are good players the club is after. But that’s not how Newcastle are doing their transfer business this summer, with Alan Pardew again verifying today that Newcastle are still after Loic Remy, Bafetimbi Gomis and Darren Bent, just in case other clubs had any doubts about that.
Loic Remy – Hammers may buy him permanently
Alan Pardew was interviewed in the Evening Chronicle today, and he was asked about Remy, Bent and Gomis, and he had this to say:
“They are all very much on the radar.” “We will pursue them until we get them.”
Well – there you have it.
Now there is news in le10sport.com in France that West Ham may want to sign Loic Remy on a permanent basis.
West Ham have already paid out £15M for former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, about £5M more than Newcastle were prepared to pay (and what he’s worth), but the Hammers are one of the English clubs who are dishing out big money this summer, and it’s well known they want at least one more striker.
West Ham have been linked with Salomon Kalou of Lille for around €3.5M (£3M), and the French report is that Sam Allardyce is also interested in getting Loic Remy.
Apparently no offer has yet been received by QPR for Remy, although Newcastle have been reported to be after a season-long loan for the player, and there are some good reasons for that – with one being the Frenchman still is out on bail for a rape charge and the trial is yet to take place.
The French report says that West Ham would be willing to pay the €7M release clause in Remy’s contract, which is what QPR want.
QPR want the transfer fee and also get Remy off their wage bill, as they recalibrate financially, for life in the Championship, and to meet the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules in effect for European football clubs.
But it seems to us that Loic Remy is just one option West Ham have, and in the Daily Star today they are reporting that another option for the east London club is to try to sign their former striker Demba Ba, although we’d be very surprised if the former Newcastle hit man wanted to rejoin the Hammers.
We just hope Joe Kinnear and Newcastle have a handle on what’s going on with these three strikers they are after.
