No Way This Top Striker Will Leave Newcastle

9:46 am, Friday, August 2nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 59 Comments

There is news in the Daily Mail today that Turkish club Trabzonspor have Newcastle’s best striker, Papiss Cisse, in their sights, but there is very little chance Cisse will be leaving Newcastle thus summer, or anytime soon.

papiss cisse closeuo

Papiss Cisse – in Wonga training kit

We were really impressed with the Senegal striker’s enthusiasm, form and general all round performance on Tuesday night at St. Mirren, and he looked really fit for a player who was playing his very first game in pre-season.

But after the impasse with Newcastle and Wonga over wearing the Wonga insignia on his Newcastle shirt and training gear, he said he just wanted to concentrate on playing football.

And it seems the Newcastle fans at the game agreed with that, as Papiss got a good round of applause from the fans for his energetic performance, when he was taken off in the second half, and that performance included one great goal scored after 19 minutes.

And Alan Pardew was delighted with his form, because the Newcastle manager had said Papiss was under a lot of pressure after the Wonga affair, but the manager thought Papisscame through the game with flying colors.

The Daily Mail is reporting he is a troubled player, but that’s far from the truth, and during his stand-off with the club, he was quick to stress he did not want to leave Newcastle.

And earlier this summer there was even news that Cisse wanted to sign a new extended deal to stay at Newcastle, and that could still happen, but we see no way Cisse is leaving Newcastle this summer.

What do you think?

Well, not signing any back up is one thing, but selling our ONLY viable cf is something beyond even the stupidest of stupidities of Ash……. isn’t it???

No way is a striker coming in either.

  • 5 bzak12 // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:52 AM

Cisse would be sold, as would any of our players if MA gets offered enough cash.

  • 6 Novocastrian66 // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:54 AM

If we go into the season with only Cisse and Shola as front two options we’re done for.

So I take it Goofy is now chop liver?

  • 8 Jail for Ashley // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:56 AM

Toon prodidgy fairl summed up Mashleys plans this morning, a lot of people have included the eight year contract as one of Mashleys “mistakes” but it wasn’t a mistake at all, he knows fine well Pardews limitations and willingness to tow the party line so eight years is probably the time frame in which he had set himself for the take over of Rangers and CL football almost guaranteed, so make no mistake we are in for another seven summers like this one, be prepared.

To be fair.. we have Pardew and JFK at the club… all we need now is Venky’s and we have the unholy trinity.

There really is no real NUFC news this transfer window…maybe it is quite before the storm or maybe Joke just cannot wrap his head around his new job!

…what do you guys think he is doing up there at Benton? He is not signing players that’s for sure!

  • 14 Markaccus // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Goofy is a good player but i dont see him as a guy who can lead the line. He is more a wide or support forward imo.

  • 15 Sir Erec // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:02 AM

Remy off to spuds for sure??

They just spent a club record fee for Soldado. Why would they now need Remy?

  • 16 ENNYOUEFFSEE // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:03 AM

Too much negativity going on here this morning. Agreed it is a bitter pil to swallow where our lack of signings is concerned but to relegate us before a ball is kicked!

  • 17 Santon03 // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:03 AM

We have better squad than when we finished 5th (no europa this season like 2011/2012)
Let’s say we were lucky to finish 5th, I believe we will be mid table at least. The team already know it felt to be a looser last season, they will not want a repeat with or without new signing(s).

Yeh I read Prodigy’s mediocrity and poverty of aspiration stuff with interest and have to agree with him -Pardew is not the real problem as he’s part of the strategy of sit tight take as few risks as possible to destabilise Mash’s asset and don’t invest in success – it costs too much (and not just £).
In a perverse way Pardew overachieving is our only hope

  • 23 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:06 AM

    Sir Erec,
Spurs are in a similar spot to us re strikers. Adebayor was woeful last year, and they are trying to get rid, and Defoe is becoming a spent force and is also reportedly available. They needed to sign at least 1 more striker last summer, and most fans want 2/3 strikers this summer. 1 in, but if Bale goes they still need more firepower, particularly from a left sided role.

  • 24 lesh // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:07 AM

Just a pity Kinnear wouldn’t wrap up a sling his hook!

  • 25 Novocastrian66 // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:08 AM

I like Goufran, has a good eye for a goal. Don’t think Pardew rates him. Done my head in last season the way he was always subbed no matter how the game was going.

  • 26 Rotonda heights // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:09 AM

Oh to be Swansea with a knowledgeable footballing chairman and a great attacking footballing manager.

We have someone who knows nothing about football and a negative hoof ball manager. A-R-G-H !!!!!!!

    43Billythefish // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:17 AM

The club has up to now shown no desire or ambition to strengthen the team. Ashley’s blueprint for success is flawed, name another team in this years premiership that has has so much bad press? Wonga Kinear Pardew,Labazee, Ashley, the clubs rotten to the core. I can’t wait till the fat man sells up and pisses off .
Our club is in limbo with these buffoons.

So true Billy but 52000 people will make sure it stays that way and won’t even entertain a short term boycott.

  • 27 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:10 AM

tads…I honestly wonder what he actually is doing up there?…I mean how does he spend 8 hours a day and 40 a week?

…does he golf alot or hang out at Greggs? I have heard Wors Feud is a time waster on Ipad ;-) lol

  • 28 WWYCD // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:10 AM

Spurs link to Remy is always going to be there because Rednapp so openly wanted him while there, Levy wouldn’t pay the price for him (even when they were in CL I think) because he didn’t rate him all that highly and I’d imagine if they sell Bale they will go after bigger fish

Also I’d point out their link to Gomis made us up our bid and stop fannying around as much agents and their games

  • 29 Raffo // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:11 AM

Sir Erec – Would you want to be part of a spuds team with talent and going places, fighting for 4th and in the Europa league, or us?

Santon03 – We may have a slightly better squad, not sure how you come up with this thought, but others have strengthened and gone forward. Many of those involved last year were also involved when we went down. All other clubs are going to fight just as hard as us, maybe a lot harder, so ppl wont just roll over for us. We NEED bodies in, not just anything, we need improvements. Remy is just that, but I am not sure on Gomis.

The biggest improvement for me wouldve been a change in manager, Laudrup for one wouldve greatly improved us. But I guess we will ‘just have to go with what we have got’.

  • 31 plana // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:16 AM

Arsenal and Man Utd have not signed anyone yet. So what is all the hysteria about? NUFC, will sign players when its right for them to do so thats why all these players are going out on loan etc to clear the way for signings. Don’t listen to the likes of jfa the craven imbecile knows nothing.

  • 32 WWYCD // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:19 AM

That comparison would work if we were on par squad wise with Arsenal or Man Utd but, if memory serves, those two are in CL this season (in fact one won the league) and we struggled to stay in the PL maybe newcastle fans see that we might need more work than those two teams

Gomis deal agreed according to le,quipe 8 mill Euros plus add ons heres hoping anyway

  • 36 Santon03 // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:22 AM

I’ve seen the evidence like QPR, they bought a lot of players with proven talent and PL experience, they even bought Remy (the guy we rated so highly), just look where they are now.
Yes, more quality players coming in will help, but that doesn’t mean guarantee success and no players coming in will be guarantee relegation.
I just think we are stronger now after last season horror, especially with world cup next year, the players will play better trying to get into wold cup squad.

  • 37 SharpEnough23 // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:22 AM

Cisse gets the occasional wonder goal, he is not a top class player, he can’t take more than a couple of touches without losing the ball.

Imo gouffran is a lot better player.

TADS I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to see you fail so spectacularly. And after you tried to get all uppity with me about race.

  • 41 plana // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:25 AM

WWYCD Arsenal are sitting on a 100 million transfer kitty bidding their time. They want to be where Man Utd are now and we should want to be where Arsenal are now.

  • 42 WWYCD // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:27 AM

What’s that got to do with us not bothering with the transfer market?

  • 43 Rotonda heights // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:28 AM

    Yo Yo

As I see it, re – Ash’s blueprint.

    We have an excellent squad
    We have an excellent scout
We belatedly now have an excellent fitness coach.

Where it all falls down is Ash’s appointments at managerial level where his lack of football knowledge has led him to this ” jobs for the boys” mentality which I’m sure he doesn’t apply to sports direct.

Anyone who was being well advised and itk would not have assembled Wise, Llambias, JFK, Pardew and topped it off with an ill fated association with Wonga.

It’s as if Ash bought a toy and is letting his friends come round and play with it because he’s got bored.

  • 44 Sir Braveheart // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:29 AM

We’re doomed apparantly. Relegation for certain before a balls even kicked. Now if only the prophets could share the lottery numbers I’d be very grateful.

I wonder, if Ashley opens his wallet ad spends £8m on Gomis, will people still be accusing him of being tight? Is it only me or is £8m for one player a lot of money?

I’m not trying to defend the current regime, but I come on here and people can only seem to see the negative. Sensationalist claims of relegation, the demise of NUFC and another 7 years of awful football. Why do people feel the need to look to the negative rather than the positive?

We haven’t lost a player yet this summer (and when you think of Colo in January who would have thought he’d still be here?), the new boys from January are going to be more settled, we’ve got a solid core of players and Cisse looked sharp the other night so I expect we’ll see a fair few goals from him this year (he also went an hour at St Mirren without being called offside once!).

There are positives there, but people seem to struggle to marry their own ambitions for the club to the reality of football, so it’s simply a natural reaction to focus on the negatives.

  • 49 Raffo // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:33 AM

Santon03 @36 – I hope your right. I really do, but we are v light up top and appear to be doing v little to sort it out while others go forward.

Seriously wish we had replaced Pardew with someone better.

    Talk about Joe Kinnear……

  • 51 runheed // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:35 AM

The reason people are always negative is that that’s the default for anyone who wants to preserve their mental health.

  • 52 SharpEnough23 // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:37 AM

Braveheart I agree mate, look at what do di canio has done 10 New players! Within a month I doubt they will have the understanding they need for the prem

Our transfers were done in January and they do seem to have settled in well.

Definitely need at least 2 strikers though.

Would be nice to see an English player brought in for a change

  • 53 count // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:39 AM

TADS it’s “you’re”. Thought you would know that being a wannabe sports journalist.

It is so blatantly obviously M’biwa.

    This is embarrassing

  • 54 count // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:41 AM

Santon, are you serious? Is this satire?

  • 55 count // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:43 AM

Tads you may not use “racial terms” but you seem to have a problem telling our darker skinned players apart.

  • 56 Sir Braveheart // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:43 AM

I would have thought walking around with a negative perception of everything is worse for a persons mental health than having a more balanced outlook? =)

Things aren’t perfect, we’d all love Ashley to open his pockets and spend more money, appoint a world class manager, be gunning for the big players, but the reality is we’re just not there right now. We’re trying to build ourselves up, much like Spurs and Everton have been doing, and I think given time we can establish ourselves as a top 6 side. Building slowly is frustrating, but I genuinely do believe we are building to something, even if we have the odd misstep along the way.

  • 57 lesh // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:48 AM

    jeff @ 21.

We can all make mistakes and in Ed’s case, the vast majority of those that follow this blog know that he’s a health issue to focus.

    Wake up man!

    No, no I don’t

  • 59 Sir Braveheart // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:59 AM

I think it’s a big jump to go from getting a players name wrong to “racism”. If someone had said “All black people look the same” then thats racism, mixing up two peoples identities because the reality is we’ve not sure what they look like isn’t racism.
