This Could Be Good News On The Gomis Front

9:17 am, Friday, August 2nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 50 Comments

At least one French player in the Newcastle squad, Moussa Sissoko, has mentioned Bafetimbi Gomis on his Twitter account, and we would expect that some of our other French Internationals who know Bafe, could be sending him messages of support and telling him some very good things about Newcastle. We hope that’s happening.

Moussa Sissoko in the new Newcastle strip – he looks fearsome

That could well help Newcastle eventually sign the player, and that still looks a decent possibility, unless a club like Tottenham, as one possibility, come in and better Newcastle’s latest bid of £6.8M for the 10 times capped French International.

This is Moussa’s Twitter account and the Newcastle midfielder wrote on his Twitter account about 6:00pm Newcastle time last night (and it’s translated from the French):

“Big support for my brother Bafetimbi Gomis during this difficult period, hang in there.” “You are welcome to Newcastle.”

Newcastle have left their latest offer on the table, although we have withdrawn from the negotiations for the moment, and there is still hope the two clubs can get together (soon) and do the deal.

But Newcastle are now exposed to a richer club (or more accurately – a club willing to spend the money) coming in with a better offer, and we could still lose out on the 27 year-old Frenchman, and that would be a disaster.

And here is Bafetimbi’s Twitter account if you would like to send him some words of encouragement and let him know we want him at Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

Oh god lets not sent messages to gomis on twitter. Remember when we did that to Gervinho, wishing him happy birthday? That was cringeworthy lets not do it again :)

Massive respect for your work here with the blog. Don’t know what I would do without it.

Just wanted to point out that your photo is Mapou, not Sissoko!

Don’t bombard the Lads twitter, bit of an invasion surely?

  • 6 Santon03 // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:25 AM

Next season will be without europa, it will be like 2011/2012 season. Comapring next season and 11/12 season, our squad is much better, but it will all depends on how many competitions we will be gunning for, there are still league and FA cup.

Just a thought, the club probably waiting other clubs to bid for Gomis, once the bid is accepted we will go in with the same bid, because if we bid now and others will also bid then it will be bidding war and it will cost a lot more. If that’s what really our plan then I hope Gomis seriously want to join NUFC.

I think that is Sissoko, Mbiwa has different hair style.

  • 10 Markaccus // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:28 AM

On a more serious note, if we do sign him, what is his nickname going to br. I know he seems to have a few recognised ones already, but i think it should be ‘Biffy’.

  • 11 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:29 AM

Sissoko can twit all he likes but the twit dealing with transfers will block it.

  • 14 Markaccus // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:31 AM

Re the twit in charge of transfers…. replace the ‘i’ with an ‘a’. That gives a more accurate appraisal of the guy. :D

  • 29 the holy grail // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:47 AM

I respect the fact we offer what we belive a player is worth and are not geting held to ransom off clubs. Gomis is free next year and he is frozen out of the 1st team and is on high wages. They want him out so why should we bow down to them we are in the stronger position. I understand geting him in early and having full pre season is more important than haggling over 500k but if you look at it logicly lyon are putting pressure on us to buy him, we are putting pressure in them to lower their demands, lyon are pressuring him to lower his demands to nufc to push deal through i think its more of he will sit and wait as liverpool may need new striker and tottenham may is they off load adebayor and he is keeping his options open and its his right to do so

  • 30 ~Joke-innear~ // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:47 AM

Actually, mapou has a more rounded face.

  • 31 dillondog // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:48 AM

  • 32 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:48 AM

and we are getting relegated if we dont sign 2 new solid strikers we are done mark my words. Cisse get injured its tickets….

  • 33 Sir Erec // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:49 AM

It’s mapou. If you look at any photo from the pre-season you will see he got a haircut and no longer has a mohawk.

  • 34 Jamiemac // Aug 2, 2013 at 9:50 AM

Nice one there tads having a dig at yourslef basically.

Joke-innear – send in the clowns comes to mind.

Markacuss…. French speaking players look all the same?

Presumably you’re alluding to Debuchy, Cabaye, and Ben Arfa among others?

Walking on eggshells can be a tad tricky!

  • 41 Sir Erec // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:01 AM

Cheers, was just about to post that link myself.

  • 45 count // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:23 AM

Jesus. I can’t believe some of you are saying that that’s sissoko.

Recognising anyone not white by their hairstyle!? WTF!? Why not try just recognising their face.

TADS I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to see you fail so spectacularly. And after you tried to get all uppity with me about race.

  • 46 sa80teur // Aug 2, 2013 at 10:46 AM

    It is Mapou, not Moussa.

    What a beauty!

  • 47 Rozzy // Aug 2, 2013 at 11:25 AM

    It is Yanga-Mbiwa

  • 48 nufcursed // Aug 2, 2013 at 1:12 PM

it may be yapou instead of sissoko but it’s an ugly shirt in the end!

  • 49 TickTock // Aug 2, 2013 at 1:38 PM

According to French reports, the Gomis deal is done, the
fee has been accepted and the player has agreed personnal
terms, the only thing that is holding up the deal going
through is,Gomis is waiting to see if Marseille make an
    offer for him.

  • 50 AmeriToon // Aug 2, 2013 at 4:28 PM

Looks like sissoko to me, but it seems like we’re all to white to be able to tell
