Bafetimbi Gomis – would look good in black and white stripes
Here’s a look at a player who could be Newcastle’s first senior signing of the summer, Bafetimbi Gomis of Lyon and formerly of Saint Etienne – and here’s some of his best goals from last season.
I would usually imbed this video, but the owner has not allowed any imbeds.
Comments welcome, but please be civil and respectful to other readers, and keep the comments to football and Newcastle – thanks.

Comment #81Gomis quality is probably ideal for a team with european football like us. He will be behind cisse, but no CL team is gonna come in a nick him so he should be content to be on the bench a bit if remy comes.

Comment #82Sounds a good deal to me. The amount it costs for a match ticket at Newcastle these days they want to be signing a few players for that sort of fee.
A player has many values…but the main one that counts is the selling club. To them he may be worth 8mil…he could be the difference between getting champs league and Europa league to Lyon.

Comment #84The video Ed posted and others I have seen, show Gomis scoring goals, up front through the middle and in most it looks like he is on his own. Is there any showing his all round play? Why do you think he could play behind Cisse?
I’m seeing him more as playing alongside in 4-4-2, or instead of Cisse.

I’m not sure there will be a limit on Carr. A lot of scouts work only certain regions as they have their best contacts there and get to hear things like a players interest in staying/going and also hear hits about release clauses etc.
What we really need to do is find a few more top draw scouts from places like Poland, Czech Republic , Russia, South America etc and begin to look at those markets to vary things a bit.

Comment #93I think Remy or a similar player is more important coming in than Gomis.
Benny, Cisse and Remy could be lethal in a front 3.

Comment #96Football related question as dont do tit for tat but can anyone tell me if the suggestions that Haidarra should go out on loan who will put pressure on Santon?
Now i know some will say Dummett but a spell in the SPL & half decent displays in preseason would not persuade me to have to rely on him as our LB cover.
Some will say Yanga but IMO he should be 1st choice CB and captain for me alongside Collo as Saylor is vastly overated.
Papers today report Gomis 99% done but follow that up with NUFC are aware Cabaye wants to leave this window and McCarthy is lined up to replace him.
Any footballing comments welcome.

Comment #97If it weren’t tragic, it would be funny how the less intelligent posters such as TADS, JFA always feel the need to gang up on people who get the better of them. It’s depressingly pathetic and like being back at primary school.
Might is right ?

Comment #99As for the pathetic accusations of people having multiple accounts. I would be willing to bet that it is the people chucking the accusations around that are the ones guilty of actually doing it.
Also did JFA say earlier that a troll is someone ‘sad’ with too much time on their hands…… Again, accusing others of your own sins.

If Cabaye wants to leave this window he is saying all the wrong things in his interviews.
If PSG or ManU were interested there would be far more speculation and rumour in the press. They both know Ashley will want £25M minimum and Fabregas for instance at £30M is a far far better buy.

There are trolls who appear on here but I agree that they are few and far between.
As for multiple accounts I can’t be ar$ed to try and find them – can’t understand why anyone would be.

Comment #109It’s like a comic book on here sometimes with all the alter-ego’s. A certain person comes on and then when he/she isn’t getting the reaction he/she wants the alter-ego comes out as a back up. Problem is, the alter-ego comments in exactly the same style and picks a fight with the exact same people, making themselves look obvious. You know who you are!

“The aim is to keep the ball a lot more than we did last season.
“We gave away the ball too easily sometimes last year.
“The manager wants us to keep passing and take two touches.
“Then we have to move after the ball.
So pards is a hoof merchant.

Comment #113What I love about Swansea is they don’t panic on the ball, they don’t smash the ball at other team mates, they pass it measured, sometimes slow. helps the receiving play pick it up, control it and pass more quickly and accurately.

Comment #115Tads I come here to read about football but you keep offending my sensibilities.
I have been reading the blog since it started. If I think someone is a gobshite then I have every right to tell them.
It is people like you that have an “opinion” (supposedly) on everything. Not me. That is why you get stick from people. Because you never shut up but are very dull.

It like when Williamson on and we get a corner hes the only player who is targeted.

Comment #118Do any of us not think it is the less technical players that encourage the “hoofball style,” for instance the likes of Stevie Taylor and Williamson who are not so comfortable with the ball at their feet. Saying that, if the players in front are not making themselves available for the passthen that is a different matter.
