Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas continues to give a running commentary on the proposed transfer to Newcastle of his striker Bafe Gomis, who turns 28 on Tuesday.
Jean-Michel Aulas – it could take another 8 days to close Gomis deal
What we do know is that Newcastle have agreed a fee of €8M plus €2M add-ons for the player, and that terms have also been agreed with the player, but how much we will pay his agents is still in discussion.
But Aulas has just said this in the French media today:
‘With one year left on his contract he has to be sold because an extension was not an option for us or for him.” “And I did not mean to cause any harm to Gomis on a personal level. I merely needed to sell him.”
“We have accepted Newcastle’s conditions for the deal and Gomis has accepted theirs too.” “It could still go haywire because there are minor issues which could cause problems.”
“Either way, the deal won’t be done for another eight days probably.”
It seems that some added complication must have occurred in the deal since Friday, because this is what the Lyon President said two days ago:
“I understand there’s a problem over the amount and the payment of the fees” “Hopefully, it will be settled within the next 24 to 48 hours.”
This is not good news on the Gomis deal, assuming it’s true, and it’s really the last thing fans want to hear – how much longer is this frustration going to last this summer?
It hasn’t been great over the last two summers, but this window is starting to take the biscuit.
The Lyon President has also made this rather strange personal quote today in L’Equipe:
“Bafe – I want him at the economic level, not at the human level. “
Do you think Aulas talks too much?
Comments welcome, but please keep them civil and respectful to other readers – thanks.

Just listened and watched Kinnear interview in full – he seemed coherent and spoke fairly confidently. It is slightly reassuring that he is capable of doing that.
For me, the interview sounded like we want all 3 strikers. As far as I am concerned that is extremely unlikely but if on 3 September after deadline has gone we have a strike force of remy, bent, gomis and cisse then that will be extremely strong. In that circumstance, I guess Shola leaves and Campbell goes on loan. That would suit me nicely and with remy able to play on the wing it gives us the option of 4-4-2 with 4 quality strikers to fill the two role or 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 with Remy as a winger.
I am not sure on the other area we need. If we bring in the above players I really think we only need a reserve GK and it looks like that could be Zoet and potentially a CB (although as a fourth choice Williamson is ok).
Whilst I would like Ince, McCarthy. We are well stocked in CM and franjly as Nice as ince would be, with remy and goufran to play on the left, i am not sure it’s necessary.
If we get those 3 strikers only I assume everyone would be fairly happy? that would mean (including January) we would have bought in 8 senior players in a year being:
Debuchy, Mbiwa, Haidara, Sissoko, Gouffran, Gomis, Bent and Remy. To me they are all high quality additions and I would be very happy.

Comment #323Any news on incoming players yet boys and girls?
other teams have had time to bed their players in but we still not signed anyone.
2 strikers and a left winger will do the trick and would love seim de jong to be cherry on the cake but that is prob me living in dream land.

Comment #325Can someone tell JFK to be quite, don’t talk publicly about targets and where a deal is at, it’s dumb he’s made another mistake, JFK you are never going win us over ever ever, not going to happen. Go do your job properly, silence us then all we can do, is use words of well he got us this guy ok. but as stupid as you seem to me is you are blissfully unaware that all your words do is add fuel to the fire. Personaly I think your appointment so that mike Ashley is a joker. I think it like we’ll send him in then Ashley lath behind his back. I keep quiet my negative views most the time, but I am so sick of have to hear about that silly little man. I just do your job stop telling us your doing your job.

Comment #329Like Ruddy I think they probably regard Remy as a winger who will get goals (unlike Jonas) and could play through the middle if we had injuries/change things round in a game. With Gouffran and HBA I would be surprised if Kinnear is referring to getting a winger in.
I suspect he is referring to RB or GK as the other area to strengthen.

Comment #330JFK Junior @302 – dislike of Torq and Secret Sausage.
Not so my friend -I dislike no-one on the blog -there are some irritable pests who pop up now and again but as for a dislike no -you are 180 degrees out. Whilst everyone is quite entitled to post their thoughts on
the blog it slightly annoys me that in obvious desparation for some news some of the lads are swooning with comments Torq where are you, Secret
Sausage might know please come back blah blah blah. These lads are behaving like young adolescent tarts who have just seen a tadger for the first time. However they are entitled to their posts.

Comment #336I personally don’t think Remy is a done deal at all. There is a lot of chatter banding around that Remy is hoping for better options in Napoli ect. I hope im wrong guys but I do not believe anything that comes out of kinnears trap and especially the itk’s on here.
Every one is entitled to there opinion and views but until the player has the shirt on his back then I will I will hold judgement till then.

That’s your opinion, which is extremely well explained. But I don’t think the interview is a mistake. Keeping us informed about transfers is not a bad thing, especially when our interest in the players and the advanced state of negotiations is already in the public arena. When Fernandes/Rednapp have talked openly about a loan deal for Remy, then what is wrong with the club confirming (for the first time) that we are interested in taking him on loan?
Would you prefer it is left to speculation or for ITKs to tell us what is going on?

yes thats the way it works in footy most of the time if a player is offered more money or better team comes along then thats it. That many agents turning players heads now because they get a good pay day also.

Comment #340@clinath: Depends on whether or not he can get a work permit. I’d imagine a lot of countries wouldn’t give him one based on the allegations and any club would have to be prepared for him being found guilty and losing their investment.

Remy has not been charged with anything, It is just pending further investigation until September when he answers bail. And I would have thought the terms and conditions would have been already set in his bail conditions. I know he has been back to france since the allegation.

Comment #344Remy wouldn’t need a work permit to play in the EU, so yes he could go on loan to Napoli or another club. Since there has been no rape charge I think he would currently be under no restrictions, but if a charge is laid then we would have to regularly report to a police station and surrender his passport. So the risk to a club in Italy etc is even higher that they could lose his services during the loan period.
The risk of the loan deal falling through is more likely to come from West Ham.

Comment #347Just watched the Kinnear interview. Sounds like Remy will be in by Tuesday and Gomis is very close. Can’t believe we may have a strike force of :

Kind of makes me sad we didn’t have that forward line going into Europe last year. Anyone got a time machine ? 🙂 .

Another troll type.
I spoke to Pardew and he told me 2 players were arriving today with a view to signing. He laughed when I mentioned Gomis. I reckon that meant 100% he was one of them. The other Im guessing will be Remy because it’s all over the news.
I also posted 2 weeks ago that a players wife (French) told me Remy was a cert and was in touch daily with the French players and he is part of the gang. They seem to know he was going to come here.
I also posted a while back that a player had arrived in Newcastle and was signing that day. Unfortunately a few hours later Kemen signed so people took offence to that and said I had made the statement that Bent was coming. I never said that because none of the people I speak to ever said that.
I also said Amalfitano was on his way. That hasnt turned out true as yet but he did have a meeting at a hotel with his team of representatives.
If people like this clown above dont like reading the info then dont read any posts I make. Its a fun blog and is supposed to be entertaining. I dont work for the toon but I do speak to people and if I post snippets of what they tell me then so be it. But there’s no need to have a go. Whats the point?
For your info I spoke with a players wife this morning and she told me that they have a cook in for the day and he is making a traditional sunday lunch for them and another player and his wife. Now that is shit hot info but if you want to say it is crap then suit yourself. Maybe it will be on SSN later that they had apple crumble for desert.

Calm down, dear. I’m not having a go; just merely playing the game. I sincerely hope you’re right. I just have serious doubts, which is understandable when you consider some of crap that gets peddled on this blog from people claiming to have ‘contacts’ within the club.
I do remember your post on Oliver Kemem and I also remember this news being on various blogs and sites, along with photographs days before it was officially announced. Coincidental?
I agree, this is a fun and blog and is entertaining beyond belief but I think it’s unfair to get fans hopes up with fictitious garbage, but, like I said, I hope you’re right. Although the clocking is now ticking and the jury is still out.
On the subject of Kinnear’s comments; make of it what you will. It could be a PR stunt to allay fans fears or it could be genuine. I honestly think he’s named dropped Bent as way of trying to speed up the Gomis deal, although I do think we’ll pursue Bent if Gomis ends up at Marseille. If we can pull of Remy, it would be fantastic business; this was the one deal I personally thought wouldn’t happen.
It’s frustrating for everyone as we’re all desperate for new players but ultimately, Kinnear and Co should be judged on 1st September.

I wasn’t implying for s minute that Kinnear’s giving the world the running commentary on Gomis. He hasn’t done so and quite rightly
What I was driving at is that behaviour and fool-hardy mouth have not done his credibility any good and thus, he may not be taken seriously.
