Great News – Loic Remy Will Undergo Newcastle Medical Today

Great news today from Sky Sports, that QPR and French International striker Loic Remy will undergo a medical at Newcastle today, ahead of a proposed loan move.

France/Malte- Espoirs - 05.09.2008 - Qualifications - Euro2009 -

Loic Remy – will take medical today – fantastic news

Joe Kinnear had said he thought the Remy deal could be done today or tomorrow, so it looks like Joe is delivering his first signing for Newcastle as Director of Football.

This is fantastic news for Newsletter, and hopefully everything can go smoothly today and we can have Loic singed to that one year loan deal.

Harry Redknapp had commented it would take £2M plus his wages to get the deal done, but Kinnear indicated yesterday that Newcastle were not turned off by that high fee.

Remy had almost joined Newcastle in January, but at the last moment he decided to go for the bigger wages at QPR, but everybody makes a mistake now and then. 😀

Last season for QPR Remy looked very impressive and scored 6 goals in 14 appearances for the relegated side, including a first half penalty against Newcastle.

The 26 year-old was signed from Marseilles in January by the London club, and he has 18 caps with four goals for the full French side, and in short – he’s a great striker.

The deal will include Newcastle having the first chance to sign the player on a permanent basis next summer, and it even looks good for Joe Kinnear because he said yesterday he thought the deal could be completed.

It also gives Loic a couple of weeks to get acclimatized  at Newcastle, before our first league game at Manchester City.

Again this is great news, and just think what Papiss Cisse and Loic Remy can do to opposing defenses next season – love it!

Now to get Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon on Tyneside.

Howay The Lads!!

Glad its Remy. The best striker we have been linked with IMO. Gomis and Sinclair or Ince would be the icing on the cake.

LIL….if you’re telling me Obertan is even a half decent footballer, that will probably the first thing you’ve said that I’ve disagreed with…
As for Santon, whether he plays LB or LW he needs a left footed player alongside him…to complement his natural desire to cut inside.

I wonder if NUFC are taking Remy on season long loan with an possible option to buy at the buy-out-fee, due to the pending court case (rape charge)? Would be a smart move if this is the case.

Great signing if all goes to completion. A loan deal best or now until we know what will happen with he criminal accusation.

A very good finisher and has the pace we desperately lack going forward.

If gomis comes too we will have all the components of avert good 11 as well as 4/5 good players on the bench too.

The key part of this deal is that the fee to sign Remy permanently has been agreed and if we exercise that option Remy HAS to sign for us.

I’ve read that Remy wanted the option to go to any club at the end of the loan deal – that would be a Ba situation all over again.

It will be interesting to hear how this loan deal has been structured but nevertheless Remy is an excellent signing.

    Clinath,
I’m not in the slightest stating that. 🙂 I’d say that is more of a comment on the lack of natural width at the club. That is the same reason people even consider having Santon as a winger.

Personally, if we don’t have wingers, let’s not play with wingers. Play with a narrow midfield and allow fullbacks to provide width and have movement in behind Cisse in HBA/Marveaux/Remy/Vuckic. Don’t try and slot players who are better in other roles into them just so we have ‘wingers’.

Its hard not to be angry and bitter towards the Loic Remy situation because lets face it, he turned us down in January for more money and nothing more. But I think as soon as he signs and starts scoring goals that will all change. If it is a season long loan that he signs on then surely we will have told QPR that we want first choice to make the deal permanent after all if he comes and scores 15/20 goals plus then we wont want to loose the chance to sign him on a permanent basis. Now that he is coming in (hopefully) I hope that we are still pushing a deal through for Gomis but at the end of the day we have been lacking substantial fire power since Demba Ba left. From good sources (not HP or Heinz) Remy is already at the Benton training ground so I think this deal will be announced today.

Well lets hope Remy signs for us and does the business pretty sure having the likes of Arfa , Sissoko and Cabaye will make the guy feel welcome

Would love us to sign Gomis as he would offer us an aerial threat and hold up play would rather him coming on at half time rather than Shola !

As for Santon last season he was expected to cover the whole left side because Jonas offered nothing and the likes of Tiote offered no protection for him to go forward either even though a lot of games he was expected to do it all himself !

Would also love it if we signed Ince as well that would give us enough attacking options to challenge for a top 6 place

    Imagine this scenario….

Faye Downey gets our players fit enough to play that high pressing attacking game that we played against Man Utd and Arsenal away for the WHOLE game!

Or is that too positive ? ha ha

Newcastle have pulled the plug, Alan Pardew see’s the rapidly improving Gabriel Obertan as a centre attacking threat having been impressed with his goals tally this pre-season and is confident he will chip in with enough goals to withdraw the pursuit of Newcastles striking targets this summer and has assured Obertan that he will get minutes this season,
He said, ‘Gabriel, you will get minutes.’

As nufc says on the shirt-depends on the Wonga buddy I am offered.Blacky and neil were 2 of the lads out there last year and were earning in excess of 70 dollars an hr through a composite company.they were there primarily putting all the infrastructure in place ready for the mass influx of immigrants over the next few year.

    Bills,
No he doesn’t. Only if we have agreed full contractual terms, which there is no news at all of, would Remy HAVE to sign for us. A first option means that we get to speak to him first if we want to buy him, but he can still say no.

QPR want to keep him but want him off the wage bill while they’re in the championship. If they come back up i reckon they wont be inclined to sell unless theres some contract agreement between us with this loan deal. Also isnt remys buyout clause only valid while QPR are in the championship?

    Lil,

I’m saying that the deal should be a full signing agreement structured only as a loan deal now to cover the possibility of Remy facing charges.

That is the ideal agreement for us.

Anything else leaves us wide open to providing a platform for Remy and QPR to cash in if he has a good season.

    Bills,
Remy knows fine well that if he has a good season then the clubs that have been looking in from the outside will be after him. No way Remy would agree to that.

I agree though that it should be structured that way for our benefit, but it won’t be as it benefits no one else….

With Gignac saying he is staying at Marseilles, the prospect of them making an offer for Gomis recedes. However I reckon Gomis is trying to smoke out other interest and now that Remy has signed he may worry about getting games and being perceived as cover.

So that one I am not optimistic about.

What is intriguing is Kinnear’s comment about “another area” of the team which he is pursuing a player for. I wonder if that is Zoet (GK), a defender or midfielder??

Remy to #nufc has permanent option at end of season. The ‘other area’ Kinnear has spoken of strengthening is left wing. After 2 strikers in.

From skysports on twitter. Should answer the question about final fee

He’s exactly what we need in terms of a wing-playing striker but I don’t rate him massively and I can’t help but feel he’ll go down for rape or at least get a suspended sentence. So as a person I can’t rate him but he’s a decent footballer and he’ll improve us, and it’s only a loan, so can’t really complain.
