It’s a ploy some players use that when they realize that they are not really being pursued by a club, they come out and say the news is all rubbish – or some other similar word.
Andre-Pierre Gignac – not on Newcastle’s list
And maybe that’s what’s happened with Marseilles striker Andre-Pierre Gignac today, after Director of Football Joe Kinnear yesterday in his interview with Sky Sports, made it very clear, too clear – that Newcastle were after three specific strikers – Loic Remy, Bafe Gomis and Darren Bent.
Joe didn’t mention Gignac.
Gignac has been interviewed in the French Daily L’Equipe today and this is what he had to say:
“You think I’m leaving Marseilles?” “I never had any intention of leaving and Newcastle and all the rest is bull****.” (editorial note: that’s similar to rubbish)
“I let my adviser Jean-Christophe Cano, Marseilles President Vincent Labrune, and Sporting Director Jose Anigo see everything.”
The French International did say a month or so ago that he would not be interested in a Newcastle move, and that he wanted a bigger club.
But there’s no evidence Newcastle were ever interested in the player and it was probably all paper talk, and in any case if we were true, that kind of attitude probably scared Newcastle off, and if it didn’t it should have, because we only want players who want to come to Newcastle United.
Great news today that Loic Remy is having a medical at Newcastle and if sign him for a season long loan, that;s exactly what Newcastle fans want to hear.
Hey, maybe that photo of Loic with a Newcastle fan yesterday (supposedly in Newcastle) could have been true after all?
And his signing on loan should help lift the mood on Tyneside …. significantly.
