The Newcastle side that has just been announced for the game at Ibrox tonight, and goalkeeper Tim Krul makes his first appearance of pre-season.
As expected Alan Pardew starts a strong side tonight, and it looks like it may be the best defense Newcastle can put out, but Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa does not get a start with Debuchy, Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Santon being getting the start.
There is battle between Taylor and Yanga-Mbiwa as to who starts alongside captain Fab Coloccini in central defense, although the Frenchman is more than a capable left back too.
And Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko all get a start with Newcastle playing in a modified 4-5-1 formation with Papiss Cisse the lone striker up front.
Pardew said he would put out a strong side and this could be the best side he can muster, although room will be made for Loic Remy and also for Bafe Gomis when we get the lad signed up.
Hatem Ben Arfa and Gutierrez also start for the Magpies, with the Ameobi brothers on the bench and Paul Dummett could see some action in the second half – this looks a strong starting eleven and a strong bench tonight, and let’s hope we see a good performance and a good win.
A number of players starting tonight are fighting for their places in the team – with such a strong bench on display – and that’s got to be good.
Dan Gosling is also on the bench after hos excellent display last Tuesday night at St. Mirren.
