Tim Krul Starts Against Rangers In A Very Strong Side

6:50 pm, Tuesday, August 6th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 420 Comments

Rangersnufc

The Newcastle side that has just been announced for the game at Ibrox tonight, and goalkeeper Tim Krul makes his first appearance of pre-season.

As expected Alan Pardew starts a strong side tonight, and it looks like it may be the best defense Newcastle can put out, but Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa does not get a start with Debuchy, Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Santon being getting the start.

There is battle between Taylor and Yanga-Mbiwa as to who starts alongside captain Fab Coloccini in central defense, although the Frenchman is more than a capable left back too.

And Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko all get a start with Newcastle playing in a modified 4-5-1 formation with Papiss Cisse the lone striker up front.

Pardew said he would put out a strong side and this could be the best side he can muster, although room will be made for Loic Remy and also for Bafe Gomis when we get the lad signed up.

Hatem Ben Arfa and Gutierrez also start for the Magpies, with the Ameobi brothers on the bench and Paul Dummett could see some action in the second half – this looks a strong starting eleven and a strong bench tonight, and let’s hope we see a good performance and a good win.

A number of players starting tonight are fighting for their places in the team – with such a strong bench on display – and that’s got to be good.

Dan Gosling is also on the bench after hos excellent display last Tuesday night at St. Mirren.

Teams:

Rangers - tba

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye; Moussa Sissoko, Hatem Ben Arfa, Jonas Gutierrez; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Dan Gosling, Vurnon Anita, Sylvain Marveaux, Yoan Gouffran, Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi

  • 2 Toon1978 // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:52 PM

Much the same as last season.

  • 3 yo-yo // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:52 PM

I hope Anita gets some game time

  • 4 IITianToon // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:52 PM

So Pards wants to make Sissoko work at RW; and hoping bEN arfa clicks in the free role behind Cisse.
    Let’s see how that unfolds.

  • 5 IITianToon // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:53 PM

Why not Gouffran instead of Guti :| :|

  • 6 Bedsmag77 // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:53 PM

    Gutierrez again!!! What about Marv???

  • 7 G.unit // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:54 PM

Thatt wouldn’t be my starting line up when we come to play Man City but got a funny feeling that what Pardew will go with. I just can’t see him dropping Jonas. Hope I’m wrong like!

  • 8 John Tudor // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:54 PM

    you are a doofus pardew

  • 9 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:55 PM

    Yo
Someone posted a Redknapp interview on twitter where apparantly he said remy’s annual salary and they worked it out as roughly that
    But, you know, twitter so…..

C’mon pards still with the negative 4-2-3-1 and still starting stevie fcuking Taylor ffs

  • 10 PaddyToon // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:55 PM

    stream?

  • 11 JackButler // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:55 PM

And still people are amazed that Jonas starts every game FFS………………. :D

  • 12 yo-yo // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:56 PM

    TADS

It is a friendly and IF this is our starting 11 of choice in EPL games (plus Remy) it will be a long hard season.

  • 13 geordie157 // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:57 PM

I’ve heard that Sammy is doing well in pre-season, does that mean he’s learning that sometimes its good to pass the ball to a team mate?

    where’s vuckic!!

  • 14 MrMojoRisin76 // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:57 PM

Have i missed something?,why are people on Taylors case?,he’s a quality defender.

  • 15 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:58 PM

    here we go….

Pardew with Bale Messi and Ronaldo woudl play. Jonas….Downing …..and dunno who…

there were links earlier today i am sure

  • 16 Ginger // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:59 PM

Absolutely ridiculous. Vuckic doesn’t even make the bench.

Playing a CDM as a right winger.

Guttierez playing left wing. The relationship between manager and player continues. Who knows he might get his 1 assist for the world.

Ben-Arfa playing CAM, even though he’s been absolutely god awful every time he’s been played there.

Stevie Taylor playing CB instead of Yanga-Mbiwa.

We could be a pretty dangerous team if we had a manager that wasn’t insane.

  • 17 Indian Magpie // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:59 PM

    PArdew is an Idiot

  • 18 swisstone // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:59 PM

A lot of unnecessary criticism of jonas on this blog.

    Pardew picks the team.

Only players that should get abused or criticised are those that disrespect the club or that don’t give 100%.

Jonas is guilty of neither of those things.

  • 19 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 6, 2013 at 6:59 PM

    MrMojo
No, he’s not, he’s an average defender who’s a geordie
Mbiwa is in a different class

    Yo Yo
Didn’t expect remy to really feature but this late in pre season I’d sadly expect this to be his rough idea for a starting 11 vs citeh, which is worrying imo

  • 20 Ginger // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:00 PM

    *Year not world

  • 21 DevonMag // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:00 PM

I know everyone will be raging out about Guttierez starting but personally I think the real travesty is Sissoko on the right wing. If this is the team that starts at city, with the players we currently have available, so help me god…

  • 22 89Norcal // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:00 PM

    Mojo
I’m with you. I think he had an own goal in pre-season plus 1 or 2 blunders late last season. Now everyone is on his case again.

  • 23 JackButler // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:00 PM

    swisstone

But he is guilty of being totally useless

  • 24 Ginger // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:01 PM

    swisstone

I think it’s more directed towards Pardew for selecting him then Jonas himself.

  • 25 lukes26 // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:01 PM

Look. Pardew cannot start Santon without help from the LM. Starting Gouffran or Marveaux is making the worst defender (Santon) vulnerable to being overrun, as he was countless times last year.

The alternative is starting Yanga at LB and getting less productivity in overlapping/crossing ablities.

I prefer this option. So, instead of asking why Jonas is starting, I prefer asking why Yanga isnt starting at LB.

  • 26 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:02 PM

    Norcal
This close to the start of the season we should be getting major game time for our planned permanent back 4, Taylor should absolutely no way be in that back 4 ahead of Mbiwa, no way

  • 27 Ginger // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:03 PM

    MrMojoRisin76

People don’t like Steven Taylor because he is prone to doing stupid things. The way I see it whilst he is a good CB in my opinion our main partnership should be without a doubt Collocini and Yanga-Mbiwa.

  • 28 SeanNufc87 // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:03 PM

Is it on the radio somewhere?

  • 29 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:03 PM

Cabaye playing deep, Tiote & Jonas starting. Nothing changes :( .

    Should have been:

    —————–Sissoko—————-Anita——————-

    ——–HBA—————-Cabaye————-Marveaux—

    ——————————–Cisse—————————–

  • 30 Bearsize // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:03 PM

Wow the same team as per. Lets see how this new fitness regime is working. Got a feeling it isnt. Anita must be in the team come city!!

  • 31 toon-farmer // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:04 PM

same old same old, try summit different pard u aint gunner learn out playin same team as last season

  • 32 Ginger // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:04 PM

    lukes26

Because having Jonas run up and down the pitch like a headless chicken, giving the ball away left right and center really helps Santon defensively. It is the CDM’s job to cover the left back not our supposed left winger/left mid.

  • 33 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:04 PM

    Lukes
Because he’s not a LB!!!! He’s a CB and should be a first choice one
We have three natural LB’s where’s the point in playing our most promising CB there? None at all

Maybe, but I’m not on board with the notion he’s only in the 1st team because he’s a Geordie.

And there’s alot of contradicting opinions on this blog regarding who should be given a run out in friendlies; rotation players, youngsters, or solid 1st teamers. Personally don’t care as long as Pardew can get over his crush on Jonas.

  • 40 PMartel // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:06 PM

I just hope Steven Taylor doesn’t start ahead of Mbiwa when the season begins. Can’t fault the lads commitment but he’s an awful defender. Jonas similarly.

  • 41 DevonToon // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:07 PM

Got a horrible feeling that back 5 will start the season… why mapou aint getting game time next to colo is beyond me…

  • 42 WayAyeCabaye // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:07 PM

Unlimited substitutions in a friendly mean a totally different line up in the second half. It’s not necessarily about the win it’s about fitness and team chemistry

  • 43 89Norcal // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:07 PM

    lukes26
Jonas doesn’t even defend all that greatly anymore. He does win a fair amount of cheap free kicks though, which makes me shake my head at the refs as much as at Jonas

  • 44 ~Joke-innear~ // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:08 PM

Is anyone really surprised that Pardew continues to favor Gutti and Tiote, even though they have been sh1te in recent seasons?

He should save it for the room and keep team selections professional.

  • 45 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:09 PM

    Norcal
Early pre season maybe but not this close to the start of the season, the starting line up should be getting into a rhythm by now
Taylor is an average defender, no better than willo and makes some if the most idiotic decisions ever know at the back, but yet he seems undroppable

  • 46 MrMojoRisin76 // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:10 PM

Stevie Taylor is strong in the air,has a bit of pace, can bring the ball out of the back at times, gives 100% every week and would die for this club, plus he got a call up to the England squad.I think Mapou is going to be a quality player but he shouldn’t be starting for me at the minute,he can’t speak English yet and has had a couple of months in the prem.

  • 47 Rooster // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Wayaye, hard work, so what , there is no product coming from the fella, NO ASSISTS IN 38 league games, enough is enough, run fall over free kick, stops the fluency of any of our play the way he plays, sorry but he winds me up five times as much as Shola ever has and that is saying something

Yea I know he will make a goal tonight or score, so what!

Tell you what this team is going to perform in the same way as most of last season, same sort of formation and line up, strong team on paper, just about, I just hope as Pardew said we have learned from last season debacle????

  • 48 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:11 PM

I can get behind that but idk about Saylor being as bad as Willo.. like I said I think it was a couple late season blunders that got him on everyone’s bad side. But I would still like Mbiwa in front of him.

  • 51 Rooster // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:12 PM

Mojo, I think Saylor is a wee bit of a liability at times, needs to let his feet do the talking, not just his gob in the press.

  • 52 maskedman // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:12 PM

    @Swisstone.
Agree with you entirely about Jonas. Top player still for us. No surprise to see him start. Can’t believe people really expect Tiote not to start.

Tim Krul Starts Against Rangers In A Very Strong Side, have we sold him to Barca or something :P

  • 58 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:15 PM

    MrMojo
Painting a bit of a false picture there
He got called up after nearly every defender dropped out through injury, and still didn’t get a look in
He got dominated at the back stick numerous times in ariel battles last season, has no pace as was highlighted several times, most of which led to us conceding, and his positional sense is almost as criminal as his unnatural habit of flapping his arms around in the area whilst trying to block shots

  • 59 89Norcal // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:15 PM

    SeanNufc

would like to see those stats, but if you mean most tackles in OUR team than it’s not saying much, considering we had one of the poorest defenses in the league.

Question there would then be WHAT is his role? Is he a defensive minded player? Then why do we play 2 DM’s behind him and basically eliminate our LM role? He has not offered ANYTHING in terms of goalmaking last season, and only scored 1 goal because of some magic by Santon.

Would rather see Fergie as a regular starter.

  • 60 ToonandGloom // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Everybody complaining are going to look pretty foolish if tiote is a brick wall n Jonas makes or scores a couple (not very likely mind) tonight. Why don’t we wait till after the game to judge the players.
We can judge AP for been the spineless lil worm he is now tho! HWTL

  • 62 toonking // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:16 PM

Jonas might well be playing today but out of all of our players non will actually be the replacement anyway the player who I expect to replace him is remy.

but all this again is proving how weak we are with width
marvo and HBA might be wide men but they run into the centre Jonas is a wideman but he is so poor with his aggressive and you say it’s stupid having sissoko out wide well why would it not be stupid to use forwards as wingers.

    ToonandGloom – clever name :)

I would like to speak for myself; I would be elated if Jonas returned to his 08-10 form, he used to put in some world class crosses from time to time – but he has showed very little intention of improving. He is getting older now too…

But another 1 goal 0 assist season can’t be accepted.

  • 77 Spoof // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:21 PM

We all have our own ideas as to which players should start, but we have no say so we should sit back and see what happens, what is more interesting to me is where the selected players will play, what I expect is Cabaye sitting deep with Sissoko on the right and Benny central behind Cisse, for me this is a disaster, Benny is awful when in the centre, he should be on the right in a 4-3-3 formation, with Cabaye playing behind the front 3 but just in front of the deep lying Tiote and Sissoko, which would also allow Sissoko to make those powerful runs from deep which are a nightmare to defend against, remember Ashley Cole getting robbed by him in February, the problem is that leaves Jonas as an attacking left winger, I would rather we swap Jonas and Santon around but I would prefer to swap Jonas with the bench, but never mind, we can’t always get what we want can we.

  • 78 SeanNufc87 // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:21 PM

Can it not be that mbiwa has a small frame and gers have players that will knock lumps out of you? • 90 FatmanJoe // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:26 PM

Steven Taylor is a decent defender who makes the odd mistake.

People were rambling on about him being shit when he wasn’t signing his new deal in 2007 but when he did they started saying how class he was.

He’s good. He’s definitely not average, daft anyone saying he’s average. But he makes mistakes.

  • 91 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:26 PM

  • 92 The next Mike Williamson // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:27 PM

He’ll learn playing Jonas and using Sissoko as an attacking player doesn’t work. Unfortunately it will take something like a 19 games winless run before he gets the courage to tweek things.

I like his attitude and he seems canny but Jonas shouldn’t even be back-up

  • 93 RooneyToons // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:27 PM

Gutierrez did have a terrible season and his final ball was shocking but he clearly had an injury and was never 100% fit.
The season before he was soooo much better and he does all the little things well and never runs out of energy… He reminds me a bit of Dirk Kuyt a lot of people don’t like him but you need players like that in your squad.
Maybe just ask him to lay it off instead of crossing haha

Oh and he actually got 2 assists and 1 goal last season … 5 the season before

  • 94 ToonandGloom // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:27 PM

Lads am not sticking up for Jonas he’s absolute dog s@*t all am saying is lets wait and see what happens tonight before we hammer the players and assume there going to be crap before we have even kicked a ball.

  • 99 t00ntime // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:28 PM

People complaining about hba CAM, tiote playing, Staylor playing etc. this is the time to try out these players and postions.
If we play against city and still have players all over the place like last season we can worry, but right now we should just see it as a test.

Hba with a free role in middle seems his best postion imo. Pards likes wingers to work hard defensively and offensively, hba has tried defending but 9 times out of 10 fails and wastes energy he could use on a counter. What if he plays great tonight and vs Braga in a CAM role, and we are actually chasing a RW not a LW. (Seen so Menez was a rumour a few days ago I’ll use him)
    —-sissoko –cabaye—
    Menez——hba——remy
    ————–Cisse———-
(Or remy upfront and gouf on the wing, or jonas for pards lol)
You cant tell me that wouldnt be a nice line up. (If hba does well as cam)

I agree with tads, taylor is of a similar level to willo. But imo they are both decent defenders. I think we are pretty lucky to have 4 decent cbs, colo is absolute quality, mapou is gunna be as good, if not better than colo, then tayls and willo are really good back up. I just wish pards would start mapou next to colo, throw him in the deep end and watch him flourish

can you tell me of a good central performance form Benny, Benny is all about getting the ball at his feet and running with it, in the centre it is too congested to do that, out wide he gets an extra half a yard of space which is all he needs, the number 10 role is al about threading balls through and bringing others into the game, thats not what Benny is about, that’s more suited to Cabaye imo.

He got bullied in the air on several occasions mate especially when we played Wigan away

Pace and positioning where combined beautifully when bale left him floundering in the dust due to his slow reactions and turn of pace and being miles out of position
He played Liverpool onside continually through there rout of us

With the signing of Remy we will be very strong going forward. i would like to see Gomis join aswell to get other options upfront. The players we now have my starting eleven would be:
    Krul
Debuchy – Collocini – Yanga Mbiwa – Santon
    HBA – Sisokko – Cabaye – Marveaux
    Cissé – Remy

thats a valid point. but at the same time at the start of the 5th place finish season we were defensively sound, until Taylor got injured against Chelsea and it then went pear shaped, you could argue that it was Taylor carrying Colo, but if you have 3 who are similar in ability then the younger 2 should get the nod as the older will probably be getting worse rather than better.

I agree with the people saying mbiwa is better than Taylor. Taylor gives his all which is good but he doesnt think before he acts which is a big problem and he will never stop doing that now imo. A defender needs to have the right instinct and as people keep coming up with examples, Staylor has the wrong one.
For me Mbiwas biggest problem is when he gets the ball he always, always tries to run it out. As a LB that was ok because he more time and space but as a CB he doesnt always have that time, the amount of times he runs straight in to attacker os crazy. He needs to learn when to launch it, when to pass it and when to run it out of danger. As he is still young I believe he can still sort that out and become a good CB.

MYM has great speed and composure and can bring the ball out and build from the back.

Saylor and Willo are hoofers and not comfortable with the ball at their feet..

So many other great technical players now in the squad who can all play a brilliant short pass and move game, but still one dark age manager who wants has beens like Bent and Downing and to throw it in the box.

Think we will simply have to agree to disagree
I think he’s an average defender, who’s injury prone and struggles to keep his weight down and looks slow for it, and there is little to no point building a defence around him as your on average only going to get half a season out of him

Glad a few people agree with my wishful team selection.

Imo, based on the last season and a half, tiote should not be playing. He is responsible for gifting a number of goals and is a yellow card magnet. Anita showed when he was deputizing for tiote that he, again, IMO, is better than tiote.

Jonas is a workhorse and I really cannot fault his dedication and work rate. However, his ability is what I question. There are better players than both tiote and Jonas and they should be playing.

Then again when pardew tries to defend after going one up with a team that can’t defend for toffee, the weak links will be exposed.

I think it was kevin keegan who said that they don’t care if the other team scores 5 as long as we score 6. Watching our team has become boring recently coz pards says we have to defend when we should still be attacking ….. We have the players to thrash other teams but he is too defensive minded and our defenders are not that good.

  • 168 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 6, 2013 at 7:53 PM

Saylor had the best pass completion rate last season out of all players at the club to play more than 10 games… Hardly someone who isn’t comfortable on the ball.

The fact he makes last ditch challenges or blocks whilst showing commitment also shows that he has been caught out. The best defenders don’t need to make last ditch blocks. If we go by that standard then Danny Simpson was the best defender in the Prem when we finished 5th.

Top 5 for making tackles last season, Cabaye, Debuchy, Tiote, Guttierrez and MYM. Where was Saylor? Only Ba,Shola and Marveaux made less tackles per game then him.

That to me suggests all in all he is a poor/average defender.

But, it is a friendly. Why shouldn’t Tayls and Jonas get game time???

At this moment, selected NUFC/Rangers players are being held in a Sports Direct warehouse enacting football poses for the cameras on a patch of astroturf, with the crowd scene painted on the walls. Direction for the photoshoot brought to you by the people that brought you the fake NASA moon landings. Nobody gets injured, cheap SD publicity through NUFC.CO.UK accomplished. The game that never really happened. :)

  • 205 toonking // Aug 6, 2013 at 8:04 PM

what I believe changed our defence so much was the injury raylor had and the return of HBA
during that unbeaten run our defense were doing what their job is mean to be defend of course but then raylor became injured also obatan dropped for benny and the signs were beginning to show that we were getting very venerable so then last year pardew decides to try a 4-2-3-1 to help the defence out but it just made things worst with players being put everywhere possession being give away time and time again FB always forward and chopping and changing defenders and to make things worst a very weak forward line with no decent width and a striker all alone.

the best back 4 IMO at the minute would have been
    raylor colo mbiwa hadaira
but as raylor is missing and hadaira is probably going out on loan we have to go with debuchy mbiwa colo and santon but what that means is we can’t afford players like HBA to be giving possession away or tiote to be fowling.

with saylor could it maybe be that part of his problems are the injuries he keeps having.

Colo and Mbiwa are too similar and both aren’t powerful enough in the air.

Willo and Saylor are better in the air but overall play is shite.

Either way we will always play either Saylor or Willo for their heading. Our defense has really good defenders in but for some strange reason can’t seem too defend for shite, hence having one of the worst defenses last season.

  • 208 IITianToon // Aug 6, 2013 at 8:04 PM

Apparently we worked a corner which did NOT involve sticking it to the back post for Saylor..
    Pardew IN!!!

  • 209 roe997 // Aug 6, 2013 at 8:04 PM

Playing 4 2 3 1 does not mean we playing sissoko a winger.that formation properly is intended for three attacking midfielders to create and play behind the striker in much more expanse of area. Yes there would be wide play but also central and depending on manager, they could be interchanging. But more than likely pards wnt use this system that way.

Still, it’s pretty impressive getting a club as small as Brighton from mid table obscurity in League One to the verge of promotion to the PL.

There would be a lot of lower league clubs who’d be delighted with that kind of progress in such a short space of time.

The over riding point is that I don’t think Poyet would be the way forward but that he did a good job and I expect to see him in the PL either this season after someone gets sacked or in a few years by getting a Championship team promoted.

Huddersfield were heavily financed and they failed to get promoted for two seasons in a row and struggled against relegation last season. I wouldn’t say Brighton failed to match expectation by not getting promoted last season. Money doesn’t ensure success, it can be a factor in contributing to success but the manager still has a huge input.

If Brighton expected to get back to back promotion, or PL promotion within 2 seasons of being in the Championship then that’s a bit crazy. It’s almost like when Roy Keane said he’d deliver CL football to Ipswich in 4 years.

Jonas picks up the ball in his own half, slips it passed one Ranger’s player, cuts inside another, cuts back to the touchline (now you know its a bollox post) round a third runs to the byline sends in a magnificent far post cross which is met by …. Jonas himself who has used his Spidey powers to fly across the pitch and scores with a thunderous header …

  • 371 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 6, 2013 at 9:31 PM

    FatmanJoe

I could see the merit of that point if we hadn’t got players to do the roles that Jonas was asked to do. However, when Jonas was asked to play CDM Anita sat on the bench.

When Jonas was asked to play LB, Haidara was either subbed to make room for Jonas, or sat on the bench while Jonas started LB.

Jonas was undroppable last season, but it was not based on form.

    Not his fault.

    “Hey Jonas, play LB today.”

“Ok boss, but there’s a youngun who’s trained for that position”

“Don’t worry about it, you’re pretty good there too”

“Ok mate ta, I’ll play there”

Do you think he’d turn down the chance to play? Don’t you think that’s a positive tick for his character that he would choose to play rather than sit on the bench?

I completely disagree with all of the abuse aimed at Guti saying he has been poor for two years. He was NEVER good for us. Even in the Championship I didn’t think he was great. IMO we had the best players man for man in that division, except left-mid, where the best player was Nathan Dyer. Mistake that we didn’t get him in.

For two seasons the best attacker for us on the left was the fullback, supposedly playing behind him. Nearly all of the decent crosses from the left came from Enrique.

    From tonights twitter:

“Great run from Jonas Gutierrez to outpace two opponents on the left but he slips inside the box and Rangers guide the ball away.”

That has been Jonas since he came to us as an attacking force. One of the reasons in my opinion we got relegated, he offered nothing in an attacking role. He should play only as CDM, but then only as cover behind Tiote, Anita, Bigi.

Do you not think he was the worst because he was being asked to do more, cover more positions than anyone else?

Simpson, your job is to play RB

Krul, your job is to be keeper

    Colo, be a defender

    Tiote, smash shit up

Jonas, run around, cover LB, put balls into the box, score occasionally but don’t forget to cover LB. If the RW doesn’t cover Simmo enough, swap onto the other wing and cover Simmo. If he doesn’t defend very well, go back and cover him but don’t forget to also go forward and put balls into the box

    Cisse, score goals

  • 413 Sir Braveheart // Aug 6, 2013 at 9:48 PM

Those people who think the score was a bad result but are still thinking Sholas rubbish – either stick to the facts (results poor, Sholas showing quality) or accept that pre season really means nothing at all (result doesnt matter, Sholas record not a good indicator of his ability).

This can be Ameobi last season. Usually a player of this age turn into scoring form, this can be his last.

Anyway, it seems that we cant lost Ameobi. (He have again proven that when we needed him most)

By 2nd half of this season, Pardew got to get his act together.

When ED put out STRONG TEAM tonight. We got to be very worry.

    “76 mins:
Ameobi lays the ball off to Cabaye but the Frenchman’s shot from the edge of the area drops into the grateful arms of Bell, who has barely had anything to do since the break.”

I thought we got one of our best side and hardly had a shot on target?

    Newcastle Utd
    1st half On Target 0
Off Target 1 (Best side? Backside/ Badside?)

  • 419 davis_toons // Aug 6, 2013 at 10:17 PM

Is Pardew testing tactics? Some might argue that.
Some might even argue that its a friendly game and we are not losing 5-0, Its a draw, Great results!

But do Shola Ameobi need to be tested?
Properly test him on Center half role for next season.

I can only endure Pardew until Christmas. This is a result motivated business, as he have mentioned.

  • 420 Tommyy // Aug 6, 2013 at 10:26 PM

Pardew is utterly useless, what on earth have they been doing in training? Get a goddamned expert in for Christs sake! We are going to be miles behind some of these teams this year.
