Newcastle manager has been interviewed in the Journal today and he talks about how he knows he’s managing a big club, and one of the biggest in the Premier League.
Alan Pardew –
And Alan reminds us a bit of when Chris Hughton was the manager, and he cannot believe he is actually managing Newcastle United, and it will be the biggest job he will have in football, and it seems that Alan wants the fans to know he is trying his utmost to bring success to the club:
“I’m very proud to be manager of this club, and I don’t say that lightly,” “There’s so many things that excite me about being here.”
“When things have happened in the past, and you might question certain things that have gone on, the overriding strength of this club is that I know I am the manager of a very big club, I think one of the biggest in the Premier League. Therefore, my vision and my philosophy must be to bring success, and I must drive that regardless of what obstacles get in my way.”
“If there’s an obstacle in my way, I just have to jump over it. I think I’m the second longest-serving Premier League manager, and longest-serving manager at this club since Sir Bobby Robson. I’ve kind of earned my spurs, and sometimes in adversity I think the fans admire you more.”
“I like to think last year I didn’t buckle and wasn’t negative about the players, the fans or the club.” “I just got us over the line, and I think that was very important last year. I’m hoping I’ll get the rewards of that this year. I like to think the fans understood I was honest and respectful when we finished fifth, and when we finished 16th.”
It seems that Alan is trying to persuade the fans who don’t rate him, that in fact he’s good enough to be the Magpies manager – surely he hasn’t been reading the blogs lately? 😀
And maybe we are the only ones, but if we can get Bafe Gomis through the door, we’ll have our best squad since the great Bobby Robson was in charge.
But it’s also true that the competition in the Premier League is much more fierce than it was when Bobby was around, and there has been some big money spent by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City since Bobby was manager.
Both those clubs have spent almost £1B on their clubs, since their Billionaire owners took over – that’s just ridiculous.
What do you think?

Comment #42paul – but this is virtually the team that DID get into Europa, and since then we HAVE had additions. This team should be able to go for Europa why not? Well, I will tell you why not, no sorry I’ll let Alan field that one.

Comment #43ToonandGloom….The comment re the grass length was…
“The pitch was a bit long for our liking,” “It meant we had a slow pass out there.” “I didn’t think we were great, but we have really worked the guys hard this week, both on Sunday and Monday.”

I totally agree, someone pointed out earlier (it may have been yourself, I’m not sure) that when we finished 5th Pardew was forced to play a 4-3-3 which did bring some good football, hopefully Remy will be taking Ba’s role on the left and we will get it again, fingers and everything else crossed on that one, if I see a 4-4-2 with Jonas and Sissoko supplying the width I will break down and cry.

Comment #48I know Cabaye is overrated. He doesn’t do enough in games. Players like Sissoko, Cabaye, Mbiwa and Ben Arfa need to be played in the right positions.
Anita is a great player and needs to be utilised more. We definitely need Toby Alderweireld as Coloccini and Mbiwa are too similar. They are only 6ft max.
To progress, we should sign:
Alderweireld
Coutinho
Gomis
Boudebouz

That’s my point mate, he keeps using s**t players like Shola and Jonas when we have better players wasting away on the bench. And he’s said before that they are working with a tight budget, well why not sell the s**t players and buy better ones, the man f*****g infuriates me!. I’m gonna go for tab and calm down, just talking about him boils my p**s 🙁

Comment #53Pardew makes a fair point, that other clubs have strengthened and we are making heavy weather of it again.
He can hardly be blamed for that.
But I wish he wouldn’t talk as if we are in that group with Sunderland, Villa, and the newly-promoted clubs.
I honestly think he has a yo-yo club manager mindset he can’t and won’t ever break.
I quoted the club’s season’s expectations earlier. Is he talking these down under instruction, or to cover his own bottom?

Comment #59Hotdog, good stuff with the ticket of the McCoist game. They’ll have been loud. Old Firm game is on the cards for me at some point. Looking forward to experiencing it.
Andymac, cheers, it’s plain to see on the pitch in my opinion. Awful stuff.
All this Jonas needs to backtrack malark… Santon can’t go forward as much nonsense. Bez was basically left to fend for himself with Ginola in front of him and he himself used to overlap loads. Wasn’t bad that combo now was it?
Same with Bernard and Robert.
If we keep possession, we are defending. A lot better than the panic defending which just consists of clearing the ball early and waiting for the next wave of attack from the opposition.
I heard from a friend who knows a coach at the club and they said that Pardew was like a part-time manager. Flies up here later in the week and most of the coaching is down to Carver and Stone and what they’ve been instructed to do in the time he’s not there.

Comment #66Our downfall is we’re a poorly run club. We have a owner who just wants to fill his pockets. We have a half decent squad who have a poor fitness level, f..k knows what goes on in training then there’s JFK and our manager who would struggle to get Barcelona to play well.

Comment #67Ibizatoon what I meant was, was it the same long grass he was blaming for our short passing that made their defender pass short so sammy could nick the ball off him for our goal? He doesnt make any sense, it was the same length grass for them as well I believe although I could be wrong.

Obviously I hope your right and I’m wrong, but I just don’t see the ability which gets mentioned on this site, Cabaye is over rated but a decent player none the less, but when both he and Ben Arfa were injured we had no creativity at all, people harp on about Marveaux, they must be watching a different player to me, so inconsistent and even on a good day he is still no world beater, two or three times he linked up well and thread a few decent balls through for Cisse, but they were the exception and not the norm, so without any creativity how could Pardew possibly put out a side which would create and play decent football, Pardew gets critisised for the long ball, but without Cabaye and Ben Arfa who are replaced by the like of Sammy, Shola and Perch, what else could he do, the criticism he gets for last season is ridiculous, he had no choice and by the time the French invasion came the rot had set in, without confidence you don’t want the ball, and if you don’t want the ball then good football does not get played.
However, what is concerning me is this insistence of Benny central and Sissoko right, that really is pathetic, now some will and already have said, every one believes that they know best but he is a professional and he knows better than us, bollocks, at times you don’t need a coaching badge, all you need is a pair of eyes to see when something is simply just not working, and this clearly isn’t, if he continues with this then as much as I have defended him in the past I will be calling for his head.

Comment #73so are you guys gonna back off pardew anytime soon and give him a chance? If not, have fun complaining for the next 4/5 months, because MA has decided to give him another chance and you can bet he wont fire him till decemember at the earliest. You can either sit here and complain which time and again has proven that MAdoesnt care. Or you can support the team and AP and try and make ATLEAST the next 4months as enjoyable as possible. Everyone was complaining about JK (including me) yet he got a player DL couldnt get. We havent done anything wrong in the Gomis deal either. JK even coninced MA to pay an extra 2mil to get him (something dl couldnt get him to do for debuchy). Unfortunatly OM are messing it up atm. Point is maybe we overreact sometimes? (yes I know AP+team was sh1t last season, but players/AP have said that we’re practicing passing more so maybe it will be different.)

Premiership Managers – if you have two lofty centre backs, try sending them into the penalty area every time you get a corner. Then, instead of being creative get the corner taker to aim for their heads all the time and fox the opposition
